I rooted my XT1058 today and I was just wondering if there was a way for Viper to work with write protection still on?

As far I understande, write protection reverts any changes made to system on a reboot.
If it does so on a hard reboot, you may try to install the viper driver and do a soft reboot, otherwise you may be out of luck.

So I unlocked and rooted immediately just so I could delete the AT&T bloatware. However, everytime I delete it with TitaniumBackup, it just comes right back as an app that needs updating.
Anyone figure out how to stop this completely?
Because there's a write protection. Need to flash a custom rom

Just what I figured. Looking into Android Revolution right now.
I noticed that when I removed apps on the phone that they would reappear after rebooting, and changes made using the XPosed Framework wouldn't stick all the time. I assumed it has system write protection, and it does.
I noticed in the Original Development section there is a thread for the mod, but there is no download link. I was wondering if anyone had the boot.img necessary to disable the protection. Thanks!
Why not freezing them?

The system write protection cancels out freezing apps upon rebooting the phone. The only ones that stick for me are the ones you can disable in the apps list in settings.

You can't flash on this phone but you can use Safestrap to fake flash. There is a huge thread on it in the development section for this phone.
Which thread I wasn't able to find it

Not sure where all the people have gone that have an ability to search anymore, but here. It is even stickied in the development thread.

Even works on new updated firmware At&t pushed out.
N900AUCUBMJ5
Kingo is updated http://www.kingoapp.com/. They have more updates coming.
Lot of people now trust this method and It is one of the only ways to root right now.
I am using this method and have been since it came out.
11/26/13 On a warranty replacement with latest Kingo Root and firmware.
No problems what so ever, phone is perfect so far.
This method is so much faster and works perfectly.
Confirmed and working great on AT&T Note 3.
Does not trip the knox counter.
(It does show Custom Status but you can change it)
No factory reset, and no wiping data !!!!!!
One Click and your done.
SUPERSU
After that you can install XposedInstaller and WANAM.
There are some kool things you can do with that.
For one > Make it show Official Status instead of Custom.
My phone is sicker now !!!!!!! SWEET
Wanam Xposed
I have rooted my SM-N900A with Kingo root. I installed Exposed. And I have installed the Wanam module for Xposed. Under Security hacks, I have checked Fake system status. However, on reboot, it still says custom. Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong? Or what else I might need to do?
Make sure Wanam exposed is checked off inside of xposed installer under the modules section that will fix your problem if not try updating installer then will work "you do know you need installer correct

Yes. I installed it first. Downloaded .apk from XDA. Then downloaded Wanam from Play store. I checked the wanam module in Xposed. Rebooted. Still said custom. Went in and unchecked Fake system status. Rebooted. Checked Fake system status. Rebooted. Still shows custom. Should I uninstall wanam module, reinstall, and check it in xposed before trying to make any changes? Thank you for your help.
I'm trying to think what I did but how I explained in post I swear worked for me cuz I had same problem sorry can't be more of assistance

Not a problem. You did help. You told me about activating the module in Xposed. But I did fix it. I uninstalled wanam, downloaded and installed from the play store again. Then I checked it in Xposed, opened wanam, checked fake status and rebooted. It works now. Thank you for your help.
Glad you got it working

all those who used kingo root. what will happen when 4.4 comes out in a few weeks? will we be able to update? im on the most recent release with kingo root.

No one knows yet...
Best bet would be upgrade your super user to pro and tell it to attempt to hang onto root when upgrading.

From what I heard 4.4 is several months away for AT&T users. AT&T is usually about 6 months behind the initial release of an Android version.
As for the root, King can be uninstalled simply bu going into settings for Super User. Once uninstalled the phone is returned to non-root stock. Then you can run the OTA once it comes. After the update, re-rooting will be the big question. Will Kingo still work? Who knows. Maybe AT&T will lock us down even tighter with that release.
no matter how many times or in what way i get rid of default apps like sprint id and conections optimizer sprint default configuration brings them right back, how do i stop this?

You have to have unlocked your bootloader, and rooted (S-Off helps too) to remove system files (which the Sprint bloatware are). Your best bet is to use a custom ROM that has already removed them.

Titanium Backup will remove them.
sorry apar3ntly soff hadnt gone through all the way
Sent from my 831C using xda app-developers app
This is what I did:
1. Unlock Bootloader
2. Root
3. Open Sprint ID
4. Manage ID's
5. Delete the default Sprint one.
6. Freeze all Sprint apps
That seems to make that dumb app stay quiet. Also I'm stock rooted on the OTA.

Now that we have root for 4.4, I'm planning to upgrade from 4.3 to 4.4, but I haven't come across any simple method to do it. Mazdamiata has a method to do it, but it requires downgrading to MJ5, which would be a huge inconvenience. My update fails at 27% even with all the original apps restored and unfrozen. I have Xposed installed and my device is rooted with Kingo. Any suggestions?
I'm with you! I sat down and wanted to upgrade to kit Kat but following those directions were not easy for me. I am now stuck on 4.3 until there is an easier way to get there. What stinks is there isn't even a YouTube video to show how to go back to mj5 and the upgrade
Isn't there any other solution to safely upgrade without reverting to MJ5?
here you go

Thanks, but it's not a simple method and has steps to install other components which increase the complexity.
Is the best way just to factory reset my device, retain the root and then try to upgrade?
Factory reset then upgrade to kit kat then root with towelroot

I've wondered if we undid whatever frozen apps ect then used the kingo unroot if we would get the ability to upgrade.
Kingo renamed some files and installed a few

thats exactly what im currently trying. i went into tibu, did a batch unfreeze, then used kingo to unroot. restarted and am now downloading the update. hopefully it will get me up to kitkat and let me root again with towelroot.
Let us know if it works then all I have to do is unfreeze the updater apo and unroot with kingo
Sent from my XT907 using XDA Free mobile app
nope didn't work... it would download, then when it tries to install the update, it stops at about 24%, reboots and gives an error saying update interrupted.
I tried manually doing it also by putting the update file on SD card and applying in recovery mode... it starts, errors, and wiped my data....
the only way seems to be the harder way heh
