Dunno, but I'm from Poland and it works on GSM
Also somebody is from Czech Republic and also working
Of course you can try it, but I think - only if you have Lapdock 100 / 500, because it isn't very modern phone (little old processor etc.)

but when you say gsm you mean 2g band? 2g and 3g data band ? can you be more specific ? thanks !

2G and 3G works for me (Edge and HSPA)
You have also mods for GSM from Mentor.86
Fervi

The phone is worldwide unlocked, will work right away, but you will need to set APNs for data access.
if you install mentor's multilocale rom (available here on xda) it will work flawlessly.

I want to buy my cousin a G1 and send it to Sweden, will he be able to use DATA? Or will it just be the phone and sms?
Thanks in advance.

Yes since it's a quad-band GSM and dual band, WCDMA band I (Europe/Asia) & band IV (T-Mobile US).
You just have to be sure that the phone is unlocked and your cousin knows the local access point (APN) so he could enter it.

Yes you can add APN and delete existing APN on the phone.
I can confirm it works great on Telia in Sweden
activation?
How about activation? I saw lots of post claiming that you need to use a t-mobile SIM first to "activate" the phone to be able to get access the android os, settings etc?
Does it work with Android Market and all with Telia?
Nothing to worry about activation.
Just unlock , you will be able to use it without any problem.

Read the attached document.
It helps you activate your T-Mobile G1. Have added settings with PICS.

Nice advertisement. Of course you could just ask T-Mobile for the unlock code... which is free.
Activation problem
Hi i bought this phone on ebay and im having problems activating it
the phone is unlocked but when i stick the vodafone sim(Ireland) into the phone i cant
activate it .
I've tried using a t moblile sim card(USA) but there are no network coverage in Ireland .
I will try to use a T mobile sim card from the Uk but im really worried at this stage
Does anybody have any suggestions ?
what activation do you mean ? Does the phone ask you for google account userid and pass ?
exactly , but i cant log in to my google account because the vodafone apn settings wont work on my phone
you have to insert the settings from your provider. if you have vodafone and it doesnt work, try again I had to try 3-4 times to find exactly the correct settings (port, servers, a.o.). Im sure it will work with the correct settings (assuming that you have an google account).
I will try but i cant get the correct settings for this phone since vodafone doesnt support G1
Did u get it working on a diferent network ?
no problem if you dont have 3g ! I had only gprs / edge when I did activation and it worked here in Switzerland...
I have did it for Boxed Packed tmobile into airtel india.
You Definately Require Sim Unlocked code from
http://Unlock-TMobileG1.com the same site i got the Unlock code @ $23
They have also Provided me the Full Manual to add You Network APN Setting
MNC / MCC Code then used airtel SIm got that E icon on top with Signal Bar used Gmail A/c User name and password and did it.
No he doesnt need ! his problem is not the unlock code, his phone is unlocked as he wrote above !
He just has to find the correct settings for the APN !
AlrightThanks for helping
ill post back hereif i have success

Roaming

Hi,
Have a big problem in that whenever I put a rom on my new Tilt 2 (which I am running on the new HSPA Bell network). My phone thinks it is roaming.
This is a real pain and I can't seem to find away around the problem.
Please can somebody think of something I might be missing?
Thanks!!

Are you sure its roaming and not mistaken the icon for something else? Also, if you are indeed roaming, which network is it? AFAIK, in ON, there's only 2 HSPA network Rogers/Fido or Bell/Telus. Who is your provider?

Bell have their own network here so I dont think that could be the problem. I also have a Omnia 2 and an Iphone 3Gs that dont have this problem.
Also just tried to manually join the Rogers network and as I thought it would not let me connect.
It is only on the tilt2 after I flashed a new ROM onto it.
Thanks for the idea though.
Anybody else?

EDIT: read this first and then try the following suggestion
Try setting in the TP2 band selection to only HSPA and see what happens. Since bell has no GSM, and if your phone is set to 2G mode only, it's falling back on Rogers/Fido, hence, the roaming.
Start>>Settings>>Personal>>Phone>> Goto "Band" tab>>Set the GSM/UMTS band to "GSM (1900+850) + UMTS(1900+850).
Play around with the Network type by switching to GSM only or CDMA or leave it on Auto.
FYI Rogers/Fido and Bell/Telus HSPA network runs on 850/1900 band.
Food for thought....
Also another thing to consider, considering that Bell/Telus HSPA network is new, I thought i read somewhere you have to get your device "added" to their new HSPA system. Right now, only new sign-up's gets on the new HSPA network. In other words, your phone is trying to get on Bell HSPA network, but Bell rejects it since it's not in their system, so your phone hop's onto next on the list, either roaming on Rogers HSPA or Rogers GSM.
P.S: You might find better response over here

Thanks for the detailed response.
I dont think I am on the Rogers network as I get the Bell operator logo appear and the phone stays on 3G (as I cant drop to Edge because Bell dont have it on their network).
Also checking my online billing from the past few days I would expect to see some nasty roaming charges which I dont have.
Finally I also have a Jailbroken Iphone and that works on the network fine without any problems.
Its just very weird!!
Just tried to connect to the Rogers network manually and it will not let me connect. So it must be something wierd on the device.
Oh, it does show Bell operator logo. I thought the phone was registering on another entwork other than Bell.
Hmm, since you are not incuring roaming charges, only thing I can think of, is the network list that comes within the ROM classifies Bell as CDMA and not updated to reflect it supports HSPA. So it reads the network id as Bell and network type as HSPA and thinks its roaming? I dunno, i could be wrong lol! ::shrugs::

Make sense to me
I guess I can live with it if I need to. Does anybody know of a way to force the device not to flag any messages about roaming?
At least that will make it less annoying.

[Q] Will international SGS i9000 work in Canada?

I have a factory unlock international SGS version. I'll be moving to Toronto Canada soon. I would just like to know if my phone will still work when i arrive there. If not, is there a way for me to make it use 850mhz? Does is help if i'm running CM7?
Thanks in advance for the help!
mike
your phone is the international version, so it will work all around the world.
i assume your not a noob when it comes to flashing as you are currently on CM7 (not the easiest rom to install)
so if you do run into any trouble - mainly signal issues (which you shouldnt) a simple modem change should work
but i use JVO modem in UK other people use this modem in India, Australia and so on, works for them, works for me... you will be fine.
You will be ok as long as you have an 850/1900 modem

Thanks bro. The reason i'm asking here is because i read on several forums that not all SGS international phone have the hardware to support 850 band frequency. Meaning even if i change the modem that support such frequency, it won't work as there's no hardware to support it. But then again, I don't have any idea if this are true. Would you know any truth about this?
Oh by the way, at first i thought installing CM7 is hard, but once you finished reading the install instruction everything is smooth as butter.

Just want to ask, if i don't use modem that has these frequency (850/1900) for my cm7 sgs, would i still be able to use my phone? Please correct me if i'm wrong, these bands only lets me connect to 3g or hsdpa and has no effect in terms of making and receiving calls/sms?
Thanks again!
I don't think that is true at all, it's not a hardware issue, it is firmware, you just have to make sure your baseband firmware supports 850.

These bands are what connect your SIM card to carriers.. so yes you need these bands. Whatever carrier you are with will depend on your band.. in Canada for example. Bell and Telus use both 850/1900 mhz bands depending on location, Rogers I believe on uses 850... so if your modem, is 1900 only and you are in an 850 area, then you will have no signal and usually recieve an error like "SIM not compatable with carrier" if you try to force a connection.... the APN(access point names) are what connect you to 3g etc..

When i switch from global mode to LTE/CDMA it says it cant find a carrier..
I've been reading the forum and some people says stuff about flashing etc, but I'm not very good at technical stuff so can someone please try to help me in not so tech'ish language please?

LTE will not work in Europe because in the USA, they are using different frequencies (Droid 4 is made for Verizon Wireless in USA only). So far, I haven't heard about any hack that can make it work.
3G should work fine.

Probably you are missing the "Patch to fully enable GSM on Verizon CDMA phones with Android"
http://www.internauta37.altervista.org/how-and-patch-fully-enable-gsm-verizon-cdma-phones-android
LTE will not wok but GSM and 3G should be fine with the patch in Europe.
I also have a droid 4 xt894 phone using it in India, i have flashed the Patch to enable gsm from cdma, everything is working just fine but I'm not Able to use my 3g services. It remains on for about five minutes and then the Network Notifier goes blank, shows no sim card again the Network comes but no 3g! Trying to fix this but can't find a way, Please help
I'm using the phone in Europe with all feutures. Just install CM. The gsm patch helps but phone can work also wihtout it - calls, sms, data. With patch the phone is connecting faster to mobile network.

I have come to the conclusion that the 3G and LTE modul might by fried, so I'm sending it to warranty. Anyway, thank for your concern!

no way 3g module would be faulty, its the same piece (the whole cellular thing)
go to your carrier first, see if they need to configure something(like apn or so)
there is also the hidden menu(dont remember how to open it, search on google) where you can change some signal options
