So like every 20-30min or so i see "Locating GPS" popup on my phone. What is causing this? I dont remember this happening on my Nexus 5

I have the same issue. No one knows what it is?

Settings, personal, privacy and safety, location.
In there you see apps that last used location maybe that will help give you a clue.

That just tells me the apps that are using location. not the order they used it.
I have a feeling its FB. Esp since this phone came with some special version that puts a unread notifications number on the icon. I went into the app and turned off all locations settings. lets see if that helps.

*backup* (Android System) - eating up my battery; what is it?

Check out the attached screen shot. That's from Better Battery Stats. Whatever it is, it's eating up my battery. Battery life has been half what it used to be. Any idea what *backup* is and how to keep it from running all the time?
Also, I installed Nitrodesk Touchdown and used it for email on my exchange account for awhile, but it didn't improve the email delay issue so I reduced it from push email to polling once every 24 hrs., but it's still running a lot. Any idea how to reduce that?

You may have enable option 'Keep backup of android device' while adding google account, just disable it
Thanks, that was it. I disabled it and froze Nitrodesk Touchdown, and my battery life shot up. Like 35 hours instead of 15.
I have the same issue on my I9100. How can I disable the backup function afterwards?
Edit: Found it

Hah! I love that. It is a setting to send all your passwords to Google, and it is under 'Privacy'!
Luckily I automatically unchecked that when I set up the account. I mean, seriously, rely on their security? What kind of security plan is that for anyone to adopt?
Does the Google backup really use a noticeable amount of battery? I like the convenience of it, but I'd turn it off for better battery life.

should i uncheck both options?
Back up my data
Automatic restore
i didnot understand the use of Automatic restore. when we update apps, we get our old data back. if i uncheck this will i lose saved data from older version?
edit: both options were checked for me. i unchecked it immediately. any other such hidden settings i might have missed? hope the battery life increases now.
Once you uncheck first option, other will disable automatically. B'coz if it dont backup your data, there is no question to restore it.
With this unchecking you wont lose anything right now. it is for next use, In case of you hard reset, it will restore some data automatically, in case of you have enable it.
But better you can use titanium backup or mybackup pro to do this n make schedule to backup at desired time. It won't kill your battery by sync all the time.
I never enable this function.
Had this same problem with my S3, unchecked the boxes after reading this. Is the something we can freeze in Titanium backup aswell? All i can see is /system/app/backuprestoreconfirmation
out of 7 hours on time it kept my phone awake for 5 of them! its mental.
Just unchecked the backup option. Note that google doesn't back up you phone constantly, it only happens a few times a month.
But why take chances?
Does this option interfere with the contact back-up from my gmail adress ?
These wakelocks are a major issue in all androids...
I had these wakelocks with my Motorola Milestone (because of WiFi, GPS, ...) and now on the Note with several ROMs. It should not be so easy for a userspace app to raise such a lock ... maybe some developer can write an app that notifies the user if the device does not sleep? And, even better, ask for killing and deinstalling the misbehaving app, if possible, even from the market...

There is an app already for that.. I'm not sure if it had been suggested already before but it is called CpuSPy (look for it in google play). What the app simply do is to monitor in the background and constantly you can tap on it and see if your phone is in a very deep sleep or not (it has a bar to determine how much or how little your phone goes into deep sleep). Also you can try to install Betterbatterystat(also from google play) to see which app or apps are causing the wakelocks on your phone. After you've verified those 'misbehaving app/s', then that'll be the time you can uninstall /remove it for yourself. Killing it won't do any good at all, because the moment you restart your phone, the said process/app would simply start back again as well. You need to really uninstall it thru Titanium backup.
On the side note. I don't think there will ever be an app that you can automate to uninstall any 'misbehaving apps' in your phone as Google generally has laws on it, governing some stance that says something to the effect as "no apps can be allowed to violate or remove other apps on the phone automatically". It would still be the user's discretion to manually uninstall those rogue apps by himself on his phone.
Hope that helps a bit.
Cheers!
What does the "data" mean here? Like Titan Backup?
But every time I flashed a new ROM, it seems like I still need to retype my WIFI password and no app data was restored

the circles widget and weather app shows the wrong city?

all of the location settings are turned on.. yet its not showing the right city.. its showing a city that is over 100 miles away.
any way to fix this.. seems like a pretty big bug
Manually set it?

Not if your hopping states regularly
im lost, with the current city option you should see the city that you are currently in, that would be better then to manually set a city that once you leave you dont care about?
I live in one city and work in another. Instead of using the current location setting I have a listing for home and for work. Since I'm commuting 40 miles one way there is often enough of a temperature / percipitation change to warrant the setting.
The temperature is correct. It is the city that is wrong.
I live in Puyallup Washington and the app shows my city as summit view. Never heard of that city before.
When I travel around other cities are displayed correctly.
I am having the same problem since they JB update. I just drove from Sacramento to San Diego and my circle still shows the location as Sacramento. My other weather app and the Sundroid app both show the correct location (San Diego). The temp in the circle widget is correct, as mentioned earlier, but the city name is not updating.
Try to clear the data and cache of the weather app it worked for me when it displayed the wrong zip code for the location I was in. The city was correct though

Doesn't work for me. I have even completely wiped the device with a factory reset. Now I also have that JB issue of all paid app widgets vanishing upon every reboot. I hate this phone now.
Has anyone found a real fix for this? I'm in Minnesota, and half the time my weather app shows me in Texas.
I tried clearing the cache and resetting. It's getting frustrating.
edit: I have gps and wifi location services enabled.
Same Problem
I just got the AHD after trading up from the Atrix2, and while I love the circles widget, the fact that the location is not updating on "my current location" is really annoying, coupled with the fact there is no way to force it to update the location based on current GPS location or adjust the widget for how often it updates.
Anyone found a work around or what's causing this?
The only workaround I found was to turn off auto weather updates and then to turn it back on. Hardly a viable solution.

Location problems?

My phone can not determine my location over WiFi or mobile internet. It does not work with the HTC weather widget on blinkfeed (just constantly shows no weather data available and annoys the **** out of me) Google maps or Google news and weather. All settings have been configured the only thing I haven't tried is GPS.
Im really annoyed as location apps were great on my s3 and my last HTC phone the hd2.
Anyone suggest what might be causing the problem? I wouldnt mind manually typing my location in but that doesn't alter (or at least I can not find a way to) the blinkfeed weather widget
Any help appreciated, I have had a good look through this forum so sorry if this is duplicated elsewhere.

I did have a problem in the first 24 hours of use - no location showing. Eventually I checked all locations settings were <ON> and then ran maps. For the first time I saw the GPS icon flashing and I did get a location.
Hope that helps....
Yeah a hard reset sorted it. Don't know what happened the first time, all settings were exactly the same as the second time I set it up, weird.

I had the same problem. Made sure location services were all checked and then just soft resetted and it finally appeared.
Disable the Fast Boot option in Settings. Then reboot.
Worked for me.

I've tried all above, but no success.
It worked for 10+ days, then last 4 days I only get "MY LOCATION" or "CURRENT LOCATION" in BF or Weather app.
It was very good first ten days, and extremly precise. I'm still on .13 version.
Anybody still having this issue or similar??
It's a known Google problem with about 6 threads here discussing the problem. Google is working on a fix.

My Blinkfeed only has United States option
Im in the UK and I am pretty sure my One is an import. It only has United States in the Blinkfeed drop down so I get no UK topics and services.
Does anyone know a solution?
Much appreciation

Watch on in notification bar

Ok this is driving me crazy, randomly the app watch on will pop up in my notification bar. I disable it and it will just pop up again at a random time. Does anyone know how to permanently remove? besides freezing it of course

This just started happening to me the other day. I don't understand why because it hasn't done it before. I too disabled the notification and it automatically turns itself back on. I cleared the data and started over but that did not help. I froze the app with tbu a little bit ago because I rarely use it. It is frustrating because that is one of the only Samsung apps that I like. I too would like to know of a fix for it.

holllly cow. I have been battling this for 3 days now. I thought it was just my phone being supper glitchy. I have gone as far as to uninstall the app... witch will stop it from comming up in the notification bar. Then i re download it from play store. After about 4 reboots it comes back. I will set it in the setting to not come on in notification pannel. Boom its back. No way to stop it..... same with a few other apps. Its like they do not close the correct way and do not save the settings. My swannview dvr app is one more that wont save settings because it won't close correctly.
I don't know if this narrows it down but I noticed when I had wifi turned off I never got it but the second I turned it back on it started popping up again.
I have the same problem. This morning, while trying to disable the notification bar setting again, I got nag popup about allowing Watchon to use mobile data or only wifi. I selected the allow mobile data option and do not ask me again. Now, I can't find the setting to change it back to see if that would affect the notification bar problem. I don't want to test all of the settings because I would lose the devices that I have setup. I assume the problem is caused by an update to Watchon. The only thing I have changed recently us switching to Nova Launcher. Could this be related?

Judging by this I would assume it is the location settings that is triggering this. Try to go to system settings > More > Location services > My places > Choose the places and click none. I can't confirm this works, but it seems that this is triggering for the problem. Also note this isn't a great solution; other location services may be affected with this change.
This is caused by the latest WatchOn update.
I use WatchOn since the day I get my S4 Active (2 months ago) and this NEVER HAPPENED before the update.
I had to disable WatchOn with TB.
Another example of Samsung messing up good stuff!

Sorry then, it must have been the WatchON lock screen location settings I was thinking of. No clue, honestly.
So did this ever get worked out? I just got the note 3 and am already seeing this behavior.
SOLUTION!..
Here is how i disabled remote control on notification panel and lock screen.
Its on Watchon Settings.
watch work done
This is what I did:
Settings
More
Application Manger
Samsung WatchOn
Remove the check for "Show Notifications"
This doesn't stop the program from starting on powerup, but it removes it from the notifications.
This is a thread that should be closed. The problem was fixed by an update. I can confirm that it did exist at one time, but the only people that still have thre problem either have not updated or they have not changed their settings.

Ice box

I've recently been using an app called ice box. I removed greenify and wakelocks. Been using this app solo with great success. Letting my Nexus 6 homies know about it.

Give it a try, let me know what you think. Hit thanks
personally its far too simple, there are more advanced tools out there if you have root.
Simple is not a bad thing if it does everything a more complex app does.
I use this functionality in Titanium Backup. It can deal with system apps in several ways

I agree 100%
I've tried Servicely, Amplify, Greenify, and Boot Manager (the last three with Xposed integration) and have removed all of them.
Ice Box beats them all hands down in ease of setup, ease of use and, most importantly, it actually keeps unruly apps from restarting themselves.
Somehow they would always spring back up when using Greenify and the others and I would always see them in the "Battery" screen as have used some % of my battery even though they weren't used.
:good::good::good: for Ice Box!
Give it a try, the free version can deal with 15 apps and is definitely worth a look.
I used icebox for a while too and thought it was the solution to all my life's problems but had to find a different solution after I realized that app keeps a constant connection to some mysterious address in China and sends data each time anything happens on your phone

Is that really happens? What's your source? I can't find anything on Google regarding this...
AFWall logs, NetworkConnections app, traceroute, google play store developer info. Trust me. I wouldn't say anything if it wasn't true. I really...really liked the app. It may be nothing but app analytics but I could never get the dev to reply and the address provided on google play appeared to be bogus when I looked for it in Maps...which I did report to google along with my firewall logs. Maybe its fixed. I get that developers make better results when they get feedback but I don't like unnecessary connections especially ones without an off switch. The amount of data sent appeared to be miniscule but very constant even when the app wasn't in use. I end up making my own using Everywhere Launcher + Secure Settings + Macrodroid. Secure Settings does the same thing but appears to be abandoned and the licencing used for it doesn't seem to be affected by being blocked from the internet.
How do I see which apps are always running? Im afraid that I'll freeze a app and it'll break my phone lol..
