Hi XDA Long time no see!
I've been using my Z3 compact since it was launched her in India and I love it in every way.
One strange bug bugs me though(huehuehuehue).
You'll need two phones , one of which is a z3 compact (dunno if big brother z3 has the same issues), This is best done in a slightly noisy environment
Steps to replicate the bug
1) Call from one phone to the other and answer it. (do not connect any headphones to Z3C at this point)
2) Speak into the Z3C's mic while listening into the other phone (Keep the other phone's mic muted if necessary as this isnt needed and can reduce "feedback" or that screeching and echoing). Notice the clarity of your voice as heard on the other phone
3) While keeping the call running, connect a pair of headphones (any normal 3.5mm jack even the noise cancelling ones will do)
4) Speak again into the Z3C's mic while listening into the other phone.
For me, at step 4, I notice that the voice (after connecting headphones) sounds suddenly distant, echo-ey and there's a lot of background noise that gets thru.
If i disconnect the headphones the voice gets back to the original superb clarity.
Does anybody else notice the same behaviour? It's a bit annoying honestly as i want to take calls with headphones on but I cant.. because the person on the other line cant hear my voice at all
Is there a solution? I tried fiddling around in call settings but nothing helps.
EDIT 1: just to clarify I'm referring to headphones here without any form of inbuilt seperate mics. all mics used in this test are the ones the phone has
The phone obviously has a mic of higher quality. Also there's a secondary mic to filter out the noise. An earphone has no such thing. So the call clarity on phone will be much better than on earphone. It's not a bug. That's how it's supposed to be.

I use headphones (not earphones) I mean the ones without a mic.. just with audio out channels.
Same logic either way the wires cause degradation.

wires??? what wires?? I;m talking about the mics inbuilt on the phone. my headphones have no mics. They're JUST HEADPHONES.
could someone please try out the steps i spoke about before replying?
EDIT 1: @Sadman Khan: I think I get what you're saying but i think you've misunderstood what I was saying in the first place.. er.. ok damn this explanation is tough let me try to put this pictorially
EDIT 2: OK pictorial representation of the problem is now attached
I'm not sure man. Maybe because your headphones still use the phone's mic which tends to be a bit far away from your mouth. So basically the mic can't pick up the sound as clearly as the time when you are speaking directly into the phone. I see no other reason for your problems.

nope.. I hold the phone right in front of my face.... ~1 cm away from my mouth....
anybody??

Hi all,
I still have a problem with sound-quality during a call.
When I put a call on speaker Ihear a very high-pitched loud béééééééééép.
It sounds a bit like what you get when you put a microfone next to a speaker that is transmitting sound from that speaker.
Everybody heras it, on the other side of the call it seems it even overwhelms my voice, effectively rendering a call impossible.
If I do not put a call on speaker I can speak with the person on the other side. But on the other side of the call it sounds as if my Phone is wrapped in blankets. Some described it different: "it sounds like you have put bass way up to the max and disabled all high- and mid-tones."
It sounds rather like a hardware-problem, BUT.... (and this is where I no longer understand it),
it does NOT happen with stock-ROmS...
It happened with JellyBam and Paranoid Android, does not happen with stock, ROmAUR or Experiment.
my conclusion is that it either is caused by cm10 or by JB (4.1.2).
Does anyone have any suggestions to as what Icould do at this stage_? Iam at this moment running ROmAUR but I really miss JB....
Grtz Henro.
Hi,
Whenever I put my phone on speaker while making a call, I hear this very high-pitched tone: péééééééééééééééép.
This sound is so high/loud that even colleagues in the office next to mine hear it. (And complain about it)
On the other side of the line it is heard too, people complain that they find it hard to have a conversation with me when I put the phone on speaker.
I am running Paranoid Android 2.56 Utacka (JB) now. The first day I had the phone it happened too, but I do not recall whether that was before or after PA 2.56 Utacka was installed.
It is only when I put a call on speaker. Games, music, video, recorde audio, it all runs fine. But as soon as I put a call on speker....
péééééééééééééééép'
Any suggestions?
Grtz Henrov
You are probably in a place where the mic or speakers are giving off feedback from another mic or speaker wherever you are.

:good:
The first time I was at work, alone in my office, calling my girlfriend while she was at home. ..
There was no other device around to create a loop. My laptop was still in it's bag...
I will however try again in a few moments when I walk the dog, there will be no device with a mic or speaker to disturb
Cannot reproduce it anymore. Maybe it was something in my environment...

There you go next time you're in that same area look around and see what might cause the feedback.

Try to turn on noise suppression as well in dialer settings. Might help, maybe not.

How do you enable this in Jellybean?
Open up the dialer, chose settings, tick background noise suppression.
It is back. Consistently. I tried reinstalling, different roms, different volumes, different dialers, noise surpression...
Nada!
Last resort; try it on stock rom...

Collector title.
Sony Xperia T - Stock ROM - 4.1.2 Stock Leaked Launcher - Rooted soon.
So it seems cm10 related
I have been trying a lot of stuff and I m fairly sure now it happens on CM10 based ROMS.
Any one knows something about this? Suggestions?
Design faux par
I think it's down to the fact the speaker is right next to the mic on the phone. What [email protected] thought that one up. If you put your finger over the read speaker does it stop squeeling?
I'm not so sure that you could describe it as a faux pas. I often use the device on loudspeaker and actually never faced that problem, not on stock nor on CM. It seems to be either a) a different situation the device is used in (see below) or b) is device-specific which I somehow doubt.
I get the back coupling whining, but only if I'm on loudspeaker and the person I'm calling is in the same room, also on loudspeaker. Then my device picks up it's own echo on the other persons loudspeaker. But I believe this is not the case discussed in this thread as this would be the case with ANY communications device used in this setup, not only cellphones.
is there any solution for that?
with cm11 there is a whistle sound wwhen turn on loadspeaker . with the stock rom there is no whistle sound, but the caller hear it self twice .
what is going on with that phone?
I've just started using HTC One, and I've found a strange issue.
Call quality of the One is great normally, clear voice and good noise cancellation. But when I plug in my headphone (without mic), people can't hear my voice anymore. If I unplug it, they can hear me clearly again.
Do you have this problem as well? Any solution?
Thanks!
You plug a headphone without mic, and still expect people to hear you???

If you plug a headphone without a mic, phone still uses it's own mic to send your voice so you should talk closely to it's bottom where the mic is.
Never used a headphone with this phone before.

Hello,
I am noticing problems in the sound of my Z1, mostly only with its external speaker (I mean, not when using headphones). So I am pretty sure it is not a software problems, or it should be through the headphones too.
I have played some songs to test it well, disabling all the clear audio, normalizations, jingles and bells. Also the eq disabled, xLoud disabled. All the sliders of the eq at min (-10). Then I have put the first slider (400hz) at 0, and moved it between 0 and +10, adding later also the 1khz one.
This way I was able to track the problem. Can you please confirm if you too, with some different songs, can hear from the speaker a somehow distorted cracking sound? You can play also with the volume, normalization and xLoud to make it more evident to your ears.
I also have noticed this problem using some free apps to make music. So I would like to invite you to try it too, with any app you may have to make music, or try the one I used, which is SphereTones. With this app I can clearly notice that the sound is perfect through the headphones, bad through the speaker.
Then I tried an app called Springs (if you search for it you find many and I cannot post link because this is my first post, so, well, it is an app whose name is simply "Springs", with a white icon with black spheres. Developer bérenger recoules, category "music & audio"). With this app the sound is very bad also through the headphones. The developer has got no idea why and the reviews are good so I am curious to discover with you if the problem is in every Z1.
I also have noticed that the quality of all possible audio recordings (audio notes with any note app, also the mini app of the Z1, and also the apps to make loops with your voice) is very bad.
And finally, the phone calls quality is not so good. In this case there is no difference between headphones of speaker, so I have no idea why.
I discovered that in the call settings there is an eq and setting it to smooth is a good idea, also by disabling the speaker voice enhancement the problem is reduced, but not completely. Basically, the sound is somehow buzzing/crackling/scratching.
So.
Do I have a faulty phone?
THANKS
Well mate you skip important part.
If you suspect it's software fault - could you tell us which firmware are you using?
Are you on 4.3 or 4.2.2?
I don't have that problems, I found XZ1 very good, clear and loud (I'm not even using my bluetooth handsfree anymore - in the car - I just flip to speaker and I hear other side loud and clear).
Also, even I'm not that much into music - I'm very satisfied with sound (YouTube or walkman)...

Mine sounds fine too, back on 4.2 and still in 4.3

Ah, right, sorry
So, 4.2.2, because the 4.3 is not yet available in Germany.
All the apps and system, all is updated to last version.
I did a factory reset and also a software repair with the pc companion, but nothing changes (apart the lost of time and some problems while recovering the backup, damn it..).
Ok, faulty phone then?
Did you try with this spheretones app? I am curios because with that app (which well, the only problem is that sometimes it is kind of difficult to create the sphere) the distortion is very clear, while with music it depends on the music, some make it more obvious...
Guys I found something peculiar..
While on call if you turn on loudspeaker, only the lower stereo speaker works..
But while hearing music both top and bottom stereo speakers work..
Has anyone noticed this?
I am on stock 5.0.2..
Anyone with stock 4.4.4, have you noticed this same behaviour?

Yes I've noticed the same thing a while ago (I am on stock 4.4.4), I reckon there are a few reasons why, first is music and video usually have stereo audio so you would want it to use both speakers, calls are mono so doesn't really matter that it only uses one speaker, and the reason it will use the bottom speaker rather than the top (or both) is in case you have the phone next to your head it doesn't damage your hearing if loudspeaker accidentally activates or it fails to deactivate.
same here.
There is some strange noise coming from my watch. It's similar to the noise comming from headset connected to pc. Is it ok or I should start to worry?

Nope, it makes this noise constantly.
Since it has no speaker (correct me if I'm wrong) the only noise could come from your charger.
First, let others test if they hear the strange sound, too, maybe you heard it once and made it up then (no offense )
Do a factory reset (I don't think I changes something, but to be sure)
If it keeps happening, consider returning it for warranty.

Returning it to warranty is not possible. Right now I'm able to hear that sound(it comes from the bottom-right side of the watch). And factory reset didn't help.
Update: Looks like sound comes only when watch is "sleeping"
The only moving part is the vibration motor, something must be wrong / damaged if it's going off for no reason.

If I put the back of mine up to my ear, I can hear a faint high pitched electrical whine. I too only hear it when watch goes to ambient mode.
Some part of the power system (the watch needs to convert voltage from the battery to several different levels for the electronics & display) oscillates at frequency that is inside of the frequency range humans can hear. I don't know very much about electronics (as you can clearly tell by my explanation), but I'm pretty sure it is "expected" - that's just how it works. Many electronic devices that need to convert voltage levels do the same thing - try to put your ear close to your phone charger, for example.
Sizzling sound when awake
Hi, I have a GWR that recently came back from the LG service center because of display problems: image would continually move and sometimes
had white noise. They changed the motherboard (proven by the new Serial Number ) and it seems like working fine.
But when I put it close to my ear I started hearing a faint sizzling/buzzing sound inside it.
After playing around a little I discovered that I can only hear it when the screen in on (but not when booting up), and only when I use a watch face which displays some data not just the time. Sometimes it seems to be louder when it's connecting to the phone after it's been disconnected.
I think the sound is heard only when the watch is actively using the bluetooth connection, it's the only case that fits.
What should I do, the watch works fine, but what can this sound be ? Could it be dangerous, maybe battery related, can it explode ?
Thanks for any suggestions.
What's the serial number of your watch (you can see ti in Settings -> About)? Maybe it's related.
Mine is 502KP...
sometimes electronic devices with no moving parts generate hisses. (something like sound effect used in movies for showing electric current). i guess it's not important. you can definitely hear it on your charger too.
