Basically, a bunch of people woke up, and are receiving text messages from their regular contacts in a separate thread, with an extra 1 added to the beginning of the contact's phone number.
Samsung says it's a carrier problem.
It's happening with me as well. Waiting on a fix...
Only happened to my first text of the day. Everyone after that was fine...

Looks like they fixed it. It was going on from like 3 A.M EST to about 10 A.M.
I was wondering why that happened. Was wondering if my phone was acting up. But it looks like it's back to normal

Hi, lately I noticed that when the phone rings for an incoming sms there are infact 2 of them: the problem is that the first one often shows a timestamp 5-6 hours earlier!
Is it an operator problem? Someone else having this issue?
Thanks
Today the issue showed in a different way: I opened the inbox folder and saw an unread sms that i wasn't aware of.
A couple of seconds later the phone rang the sms tone but no new messages showed up. I opened the unread message and saw that it was sent 3 hours earlier.
Am I the only one with this issue?
never heard/seen that...it could be operator error or maybe clock setting incorrect?
i get that thing with voicemails sometimes....
i recently got a voicemail that was sent 2 days ago and as for the time stamp, thats when your buddy sent the sms to you. Its a network issue not a phone, so dont worry
Thanks guys for the answers.
The clock is correct and I was thinking to a network issue too, the only thing that made me wonder was that - sometimes - the sms shows up when I wake up the phone.
Can you give a little more information?
Operator, how frequently this happens, if a reset helps?
Reason I ask is i'm on T-Mobile in the UK and have something similar that happens, however at times I don't get the txt at all until I either send or make a call, which seems to 'unclog' the message.
I'm pretty sure this is a network problem, and a friend of mine has contacted T-Mobile who confirmed they have had network problems since the start of the new year. However I've not had this confirmed. Anyone able to verify this also?
Iv had this alot with my handset. Sometimes theres a message sitting in my inbox, and i am unaware of this. the phone only rings wen i go into the inbox and have a look for myself. all of a sudden the phone rings and iv got a new message. This is a big issue for Tmobile!! if there is alot of us having this problem, it could be ROM related as iv still got the standard tmobile shipped ROM.

Hey,
My phone refused to come out of standby mode so I took out the battery and started up the device. BUT i've lost all my SMS's and my email accounts have gone. All my other data remains (contacts, calender, music etc).
Does anyone know what happend or even if I can get my SMS's back?
Thank you
Man.

Er.. you bumped it?
It may seem a bit trivial, but have you actually got phone mode on and have entered your pin?

Yes. I can receive calls and new SMS. The new ones ones save but the previous ones seemed to have gone.

Hey everyone,
So yesterday I noticed that I would occasionally receive multiples of the same text message. It started out only being once or twice, but it has increased in frequency. Today, I reset my phone with Odin3 and installed SRE 1.2.2a. Also, I added the lag fix. Unfortunately after ressetting, I am still experiencing the same problem. I thought it was an issue with handcent, so I switched to chompSMS and the same thing is happening. Most recently, I have received the same text message 7 times, and it was originally sent an hour ago. The odd thing is that each copy that is sent to me shows the ORIGINAL send time, so its something on my end that is going wrong.
For the record I have notifications only turned on for one SMS client at a time, so thats not an issue. i have toyed around with my sms settings and everything but for some reason I still am getting this problem. anyone have any help?
update: just texted myself and i have gotten 3 duplicates of the SMS in the last 3 minutes....wtf????

I have sre 1.2.2, the lagfix ext4 and firmware jh3.
The same crap is happening to me! I have no clue what it is, I'm talking to this girl and since I'm getting some of her text multiple times, it is delaying her other text so it ruins the whole conversation. It's bull****! She's on an iphone and she wasn't having an issue.
Anyway, I switched my sim card from the Captivate to my Bold 9700 and started to text myself, the same crap is happening. So, I don't think it's the Captivate.
I have installed the official Darky 7.0.1 ROM, with the OC/UV Charge Death fixed kernel for the past 5 days or so. it has been great. Until today when it turns out that I cannot send any texts at all.
The report on the message is "Delivery Report: Not requested".
I have looked at my APN settings and they all look the same as what is posted in the main sticky, was missing the password but that seems to make no difference.
Does anyone have any idea what is happening?
Seems like i have not sent a text since the 25th, but it should be working as I have had this ROM on since the 24th.
Any clues?
Thanks for any help.

Try this I had a problem one time when I couldn't send any messages at all and this fixed it.
push your message app
then the menu button and hit setting
go down to message center and make sure you have this +1312314810
If not put in in there then reboot

Mine was empty so I was able to put in +1312314810 without the # pound sign, but alas it did not fix it.
Is the Pound sign necessary? it kept rejecting it for me.
Thanks for the suggestion.

DITTO !! I was having the same problem. On the phone with ATT for an hour. Finally googled delivery report and found this page. Had it fixed before tier two tech support got online.
THANKS !!!!
Hey guys, so today I decided to backup my texts and once I did that I started to delete messages from my phone (as I normally do without any problems). I know it can take literally forever for just one convo to delete especially if you have over TONS of messages, so i waited and waited for the 'deleting messages' box to disappear.
I left my phone doing it's thing whilst ocassiaonlly using the phone at the same time, obviously I didn't do anything in texts, but when I went back on messaging I noticed it was gone, so I tapped on messaging again only to find the 'opening conversation' to appear and its been stuck like that for ages, therefore I cannot access any of my texts yet..
Any advice on what to do? Is it really still opening conversations? (it's been about 15mins probably!) and I have no idea if it deleted one of my convo's fully.. Is it safe to turn the phone off & then back on perhaps? I don't want to risk losing anything...
Hope it all makes sense. Thanks!
EDIT: nevermind sorry, it literally just stopped with the opening conversation message and back up. My convo I tried to delete is still there though, so will try again and not touch anything this time! Sorry, please remove this thread if you wish!

Appreciate the response, but I thought I would ask to see if other people had the same experience and therefore can share the right way forward?

Oh my days, it's now probably been about 2 hours since I started deleting and its STILL doing it - is it supposed to take THIS long?
I had my phone showing messages from another conversation/recipient a few days ago. In this case, all alerts from my train operator about delays were showing as being sent from my wife.
Killing the task and reloading messaging seemed to fix it, but it now has me worried that such problems might one day see me getting corruption errors, although I don't really have any texts I couldn't afford to lose.
