Hi all,
This is an app (that would make your life easier) by which you can flash the NCE stock KK kernel(while on lollipop OC4) that is Safestrap friendly. Then you can enter to SS recovery and flash whatever you need onto your LP ROM. As we all know that SS won't work after flashing a lollipop ROM using muniz_ri method, unless you Odin a KK kernel. All you have to do is:
1. If you are not already on LP then update to it using muniz_ri method. After Muniz_ri method you won't have busybox, so download this one https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=stericson.busybox&hl=en from the playstore, open it up and install busybox from within the app (note: this is the only busybox app that has actually worked for me).
2. Install SS, open it up ( it will say recovery "not installed"), install recovery and it will say "installed", then exit out of it.
3. Download the NCE_Flasher.apk then install it, and open it up then hit " flash", wait for it to finish then hit "tap to reboot" and it will take you directly to SS recovery. Then you can flash whatever MODs or addons you wish or even ANOTHER ROM, just make sure you wipe everything but the external SD card if you are flashing a new ROM and you should be good.
4. MAKE SURE TO FLASH THE G900A_OC4_Stock_KERNEL_Recovery-Flashable before you reboot in order for your phone to boot up.
That is what I did and it worked perfectly for me and now I am running TMS5 with no issues at all.
FOLLOW THE ABOVE STEPS AND YOU WILL BE FINE.
-I did NOT make this app and I take absolutely no credit for it. All thanks go to @benwaffle the original creator of this app for our AT&T Note 3 and @carl1961 for remaking it for the S4 & S5.
If you have any questions, please let me know.
-Please note that the purpose of this thread is only to help users. No donations needed. A "thank you" is more than enough
Hope this will help.
WARNING: it may or may not work for some of you. It DID work for me and others with no problem on the S4 side and it is a very similar process, so use it at your own risk.
- Do NOT try this app on the S5 active. They have different kernels (I think) and it won't work for you.
If you run into an issue with the G900A_OC4_Stock_KERNEL_Recovery-Flashable zip, like it didn't work for you or didn't actually flash just boot into download mode after done flashing your files in SS and odin thisOC4 tar file in Odin in order for your phone to boot up into your rom.

Yes I think so. Using Odin to flash the files and such?
You have to use an older version of busy box to get it to install . I am about to try this with twisted v4 I post the results as soon as I finish.

Yes, just flash with ODIN and you will be 100% stock. You may also want to use Triangle Away first to reset your flash counter if you are needing to use the warranty

I was hoping someone could answer a question for me. .. if I was running a touchwiz rom and twrp recovery and I wanted to go back to stock would I use the link in the OP and flash that with Odin. Would I then be completely stock with a stock recovery? And would I be unrooted?

Whew.. I just came over from the NS4G. Rooted and installed TWRP and everything was happy.
Then got ahead of myself and wiped system......without a rom to install.
Using the link above I was able to get the stock MDL rom and followed the video. I'm back. My nerves are shot but thats besides the point. :good:
Thank you!
Is this able to be flashed through mobile odin on a stock and semi rooted. Semi rooted meaning I tried cf rooting my phone not realizing I was already on MDL and did the wrong one. Anyways, can I do it on Mobile Odin?

This may not be for you...
This ROM is for someone...
Who wants to tinker and build there own personal ROM from the stock base.
Another developer that may not have the ability to get a stock base (Like me, I only have the AT&T phone)
When you hose your phone trying to "modify" things because you "read it on the internet" somewhere you can then use this ROM to get your anus out of trouble.
You flash someone else ROM and realize its not what you were expecting, you didn't make nandroid back up, and your rebooting every time you try to make a phone call. This ROM would come in real handy
You see where I am going with this?

I would still be uploading now!
you say must be on latest OTA, what happens if we flash this on non OTA?
Scott,
In the OP you say we need to be on the latest OTA?
I had flashed TWRP and have not been able to get the OTA.
I was surprised when I read we needed to be on the latest OTA to flash your ROM.
I have been holding off getting the OTA because I figured I would just flash a ROM to get the on the latest OTA is there a reason we need to be on it to flash your ROM?
Do you happen to have a Stock Recovery IMG and I get in order to get the OTA if I am going to need the OTA I will have to get it through stock recovery

Because its built from the OTA and I didn't include a boot image. I don't have the phone so I didn't want to risk bricking someone else's trying to flash a boot image.
In all reality it will prolly be 100% fine on the non OTA but I cannot say for sure... Havent tried it.
So nandroid, flash and report results and all questions will be answered.

Another question is SD card needed for this? I don't see them saying anything about it in this thread hopefully.. the device won't be mine so I wanna keep it as stock and usable as possible but root will come in handy to remove bloat

Yes. Use the ap slot to downgrade. You do not need sd to do it. After you are rooted read the top of the op about how to get Flashfire. You'll also need busy box i think.

No problem. It's barley 9:30 here in Texas. When you get ready to go up to 5.0 using the method in that thread make sure to set your screen timeout to 10 min. After flashing 5.0 with flashfire it took about 10-15 min for mine to boot back up.

Kinda funny had the phone for few hours and already playing with it to make it better lol. Would you happen to know if there is any easy way to get extra languages? ok it appears now to be loading the rom stuck on AT&T logo like you said for you it took 10 min .I flashed the stock not deodexed and lolipop is here LOL that was easy process.
Last question and I will stop bothering you hopefully which root apps you use to make it faster? xposed is not that great yet on LP so I am not sure if it's worth using it for now.

I would stay away from xposed for now like you said. It's not fully compatible. I don't use any apps to make it faster. I just use titanium backup to remove bloat. But right now I'm running TMS 2.0 for my rom and it's blazing fast. And i don't have any problems with it. At first you would get media fc but he has a fix for it now.

Hi guys, first time poster here, I was on this thread
Code:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/note5/development/dev-pre-root-firmware-twrp-testing-t3183877
and it said on it that the model SM-N920W8 was supported for the spaceX kernel.
Once I clicked on this link
Code:

I dont see the SM-N920W8 model in the list of Supported devices status, unless he forgot to put it I don't see it and I doubt its the SM-N9208 cuz this one is a dual I think.
So did someone actually use it for SM-N920W8 and it worked with no issues? Mine is the rogers version in Canada.
thnx

Hi and welcome,
If you follow the download link for "all N920", pretty sure that's the file you need:
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=39339
SpaceX-Kernel-v0.1_N920W8(official).tar.md5 ; should be flashed with Odin.
Also, remember that this root method will trip the Knox flag permanently (Void warranty).
EDIT: I actually did not tested it. Someone else could confirm, although I feel quite confident.
While I can verify the above kernel works on my W8 (Rogers), I cannot seem to shake the issue of random reboots.. At least once a day the phone will reboot on its own, and almost every phone call, the phone will reboot a couple of minutes in.
I love having a rooted device but the compromise of stability is making me consider going back to factory stock... Using the 0.1, 0.2, and noble kernels have all yielded the same symptoms. Anyone have a suggestion?

Well thnx for the heads-up... I thought that the spaceX was supposed to fix the random reboots..guess not. I will be waiting then for a stable Kernel.
@Manh_IT did release a fix for Canadian Samsung Galaxy Note 5 SM- N920W8 I just rooted and even installed CWM not one issue here
The random reboot fix is an image file 920T/W8 released October 09, 2015
Dl boot.img and flash it via CWM or TWRP
Hello where did you get the kernel to root the note 5 canadian version or how do you do it thank you
I've been told my SkyHigh SM-N920T kernel works with SM-N920W8. You can find it on the T-Mobile Note 5 original android development forum.
Please give us a link of those files!
Hi there, since you have no random reboot issue at all can you please give us the link of the files. And, that would be great if you could guide us the step by step procedure. Thanks in advance

Seriously? I learned reading and not asking step by step instructions. Come on man. Do some research.
Alright no instructions needed. Like others I have tried all the kernels for note 5 and found random reboot issues. You are saying you have no issue with that whatsoever. That's why can you please give me the link of those files?

I don't know what version you have, I got the N920W8... Here is what I did, hope that helps.
*NOTE* N920TW8 is the N920W8 version combined with N920T version. They are basically identical. Just in case you were wondering where the N920W8 is since you will only find N920TW8 in the list, go here
Code:

Read about it a bit then go here

grab that file above and flash it with philZ recovery (that's what I did)
you can grab philZ from the same link of the kernel, either the MD5 if you are using odin or the zip if you will flash.
and that's it! I had no issues on my phone at all, I installed WANAM's xposed and all is good.
Thanks for your help
I'll definitely do this. I use N920W8 with telus.
Thanks so much
Hey mate, it worked. Thanks so much

Since the Kernel is a zip file, you can't install it with Odin. You have to use twrp.

Are we supposed to flash all of these? If yes, in what order? Do we need to reboot between flashing each file? If we're only supposed to flash one of these, how are we to determine which one we need?
AT&T S5 is in a bootloop. It will boot up successfully, run for about 10-15 seconds, then spontaneously reboot. I've successfully re-flashed the phone using this guide, and have wiped cache and done a factory reset, but it still reboots after about 10-15 seconds. I'm hopeful that flashing one/all of the files on this thread will fix the problem. All data on the phone is wiped, so I can try anything. I'm just trying to salvage the phone so that I give it to one of my kids for graduation.
