Hi! I have a question about should I be worried or not. Phone is two days old, and I have noticed, when I turn off the display, one pixel shows for a microsecond (it just lights up for a sec) on a black screen. I taught that may be some "dead" pixel, but examining the display with dead pixel app, there is none. Just that one little pixel when turning off display.
Should I be worried?
Thnx!
I would say no. Unless you're a paranoid and you think your phone could explode, you don't have to worry about it if you still have your warranty though, you can ask for a replacement
Try a couple different dead pixel apps, and if it passes on multiple apps then you have nothing to worry about...

Thnx! No dead pixels on any app. I noticed that sometimes on my boyfriends sgs+ also multiple pixels light up on turning the display off. So it must be that samoled reacts that way sometimes...
Any suggestions?

I have had my phone since November and use my screen 3-4 hours a day(or so says the battery stats) but on the lowest brightness and have not seen the slightest hint of burn in. Maybe if you use it in a dock where it is on all the time that would happen.

I'm sorry. I should have been more specific. That's my fault. I already have status bar burn-in. I just wanted to know if anything could be done about it.

Man... do I hear that!
First thought it to just make the screen completely white and leave it that way to see if it will reset ( I have no idea if it will work... Just a random thought for you to do at your own risk)
In the end you probably have no choice but to go to Samsung Service center (Someplace that can fix the screen). I figure that there is just no other way than replacing display module.
Not that this helps...but...I'll just put this here anyway.

I've been trying out "Burn-In Savior" from the Play Store and have had limited success with decreasing the contrast between the status bar and the rest of the screen. The thing is, on the Note, status bar burn-in isn't really burn-in at all. The status bar on the Note is black; which means that the majority of the pixels in the status bar region spend a great deal of time completely turned off. So, technically, the status bar doesn't get burned in at all. It's the rest of the screen that gets burned in.
So what I've been doing is using "Burn-In Savior" to rapidly age the blue subpixels in the status bar region. I'm only doing this to the blue subpixels because they're the only ones affected. They're also the ones with the shortest lifespan. The red and green subpixels show no signs of image retention whatsoever. So anyway, my plan is to rapidly age the blue subpixels in the status bar region with the hope that they'll catch up with the age of the blue subpixels throughout the rest of the display. I'll report back once I've got something to report.

Did you have any luck? I'm looking to buy an n7000 and i googled "amoled burnin n7000" and this thread popped up. Now i'm kinda scared to buy a device with no warranty that is prone to image burn in. Eek!

Burn ins happen, well, not really that often as the internet might have you think. Most user have never experienced them so don't be scared. Also, most of them happened on Galaxy S generation devices - Galaxy Note's screen is manufactured differently and is supposed to have a lot better lifespan.
It is a problem - but nothing to be terrified of.

Yes. It looks a lot better now. Don't let the post scare you off though. I loved the Note's display so much that I ended up buying the Tab 7.7 for my tablet just because it has a Super AMOLED Plus screen. I'll never buy LCD again.

maybe a real solution to the problem?
ok, i have a suggestion.
the theory is, that the leds of the displays subpixels degrade faster, the brighter (higher current) they are driven.
in almost every case, the typical elements of the start screen or home screen burn into the screen.
in theory the solution would be to degrade all other subpixels in the same amount, cause you will not be able to repair them (reverse degradation).
so my method would be:
take a screenshot of the burnt in home screen with exactly the same icons and elements that got burnt in, simply invert the screenshots colors (with paint, gimp, photoshop or some photo editing apps) and display it for some hours/days (make sure the smartphone does not get switched off automatically) and magically the effect gets equalized perfectly more and more.
(for the clock it never will work perfectly, you would have to overlay the numbers from 0 to 9 manually)
in my opinion, this could really work, but i have not tested it! because i have an lcd screen. all at your own risk. if this works, give some feedback. maybe somebody would develop some software that inverts the colors automatically or is this already possible with some screen filters? i dont know.

That's an interesting suggestion. Interestingly I found this forum because I went to the VZW to check out the GS3 and immediately got bored of it and went to the Galaxy Nexus. What I noticed of it setting on in the home screen for the past 8 months is there is very noticeable burn in on light colored scenes of the top bar and icons at the bottom.
I was shocked and immediately came back and google'd AMOLED burn in, I didn't know it was an issue. I don't think I could buy a SAMOLED phone now after seeing that. I want the Incredible 4G anyway, I like how it's smaller with the red camera and still has a beast Snapdragon S4.
Hi,
I have noticed that there are some stuck pixels on my HTC One screen by accident when using camera in the dark.
Has anyone else noticed stuck pixels on their device?
A 'stuck pixel' as opposed to 'dead pixel' is a permanently lit pixel (white in my case, clearly visible on black background) on a LCD display.

I thought I had two stuck pixels, but it seems to be a slight flaw in the glue between the glass and screen. For example, if the brightness is set to auto so that it dims in a dark room, I cannot see any dots. But if the brightness is high, and then view in a dim room with a black screen displayed, I see two dots. Those dots change in brightness depending on the angle I hold the phone. You may have real stuck pixels, but I just wanted to mention this weird phenomena that can look like them.
I have a very similar thing to what Jonstatt described. Sounds a lot like stuck pixels to me. On my third handset for this reason.
I'm considering contacting Phones4U with that issue. There should not be any display defects on a brand new, quality handset.
I did my third exchange this morning and finally got a flawless unit. Well worth it, and I would agree that there shouldn't be any pixels stuck on a brand new handset, especially if you are going to have it for 2 years!

yea i got a stuck one as well. It's in the last row on the far far left side of the phone so not noticeable but I know it's there ...
Shouldn't get this on a phone this expensive.
On the other hand my as well as many others on the forum's S3's screens were pretty horrible so i guess it's hard to get a perfect one.
Where are your pixels located ? is it enough to warrant a return ? thing is i got mine from phones4u in the UK but i'm in France now so wondering if I should send it back to HTC ?
edit: DAMNNNN just did the black picture test, so now I have at least 5 stuck pixels, wtf???
Pixel Fixer
there's an app in Play Store by the name of Pixel Fixer or something like that. There are a few free versions you could try identify if there is any dead pixels and it'll try to fix them. It worked for my old Motorola Defy, it might work for the One.
EDIT: sorry, it fixes stuck pixels...dead pixels are, well, basically dead...can't do anything about those.

Dear god not again.
This was same thing had happened with One X launch. I had to return 4 devices back to HTC to get the one without any dead pixels, or screen separation issue back then.
This time I have Developer edition on pre-order. If this one has dead pixels, I am simply going to return it and wont bother again. I am not going through the same thing I went with One X again in my life.
Na pixel fixing apps don't work for me
Man this is a real shame, might wait a bit for better versions to come and return this one to HTC even though i don't want to, such a great device.
This should not be happening on a high end phone like this. Gaps, dead pixels and hissing noise...
I have 7 dead pixels. This is crap. Wondering now as lots of people have this issue if HTC are cutting corners to make extra profits.

I have a small trapezium of stuck pixels, show up on green and white as bright, right on the edge on the left, about 3cm from the top of the screen. I'd say, given the pixel density on this screen, mine is a cluster of at least 4.
I debated internally about it for a week as it wasn't that noticeable, and the phone is otherwise free of the other common defects, tried pixel fixer apps as I'm certain it wasn't there on first turn-on, but have contacted the Three store who will replace. Here's hoping my 3rd (technically 4th) HTC One will be my perfect one.
I will be checking it in store for bulges, pixels, hissing, camera and so on haha!
So sad. Also keep pressing 3 dot menu when trying to press spacebar is so annoying.
Mine is going back and getting s4. Wanted a change and regret it.

I've got a single dead pixel on the RHS about 2/3 of the way up the screen (in portrait mode). Can't decide whether to live with it or send back to affordablemofiles for replacement. Pixel fixing apps had no effect.
Spent ages in phones4u picking out a phone with no dead pixels, took three box openings.
Now found I have two bright stuck pixels! It's going back!
With one I bought online & returned previously, 4/4 have had pixel issues.

So I've voted 'no' for now.

I can't even believe it. I will type something in an app, hit the home button, and I see the keyboard stuck on the screen for 5-10 seconds. Things look grainy. Games look terrible. I'm not even a huge screen buff. I like a nice looking screen, but I can't tell the difference between this and the Note 3 at 1080, besides the grainyness and ghosting!!!
Is this an issue specific to a device? Can I go back to tmobile and trade and maybe get a better screen? Or will this be all phones? If this is the case, I have to return this thing. I can't stand it. I'll just wait for the Note 4 or Flex 2 if I have to return this...
I think you should get that repaired or exchanged my phone does that but after about 10 minutes on the same screen and it's a very light ghost image

Ive seen no threads on this issue so I decided to make one! But I wanted to know if anyone had any! Personally I had one stuck pixel on my tab s. Yet it was really hard to see I later got it fixed by doing a stuck pixel remover video for about a couple of hours and later installed discreet blue theme. Now its not there! I own the tab s 10.5 Wifi.
So... Has anyone else got a stuck pixel or an image burnt into their screen? Let me know below! Could be useful for others buying this tablet!
I've had the Tab S 10.5 LTE since release, use at least 8 hours daily for work and haven't got any issues in terms of the screen degrading like burn in or stuck pixels, have thoroughly checked to be sure, might have just been a one time thing, generally take years for a burn in on Amoled but even then I have had other AMOLED screen devices for years without a problem
No burn ins on my unit as well , im using the 8.4 as my primary phone and gps. Im always at 1/16th brightness. I also have a 4 yr old 7.7 slate, no burn ins as well. Seems like newer amoleds are not that prone to burn ins. Just to add, im using an all black theme.
Somehow (turning brightness all the way up all the time) my friend burned in a new note 2 in about 3 months. He used his phone a LOT as well.
My Tab S (about a month old now, auto brightness below 10-20% using Velis Auto Brightness, not much used) is perfect for now. However I saw the two 10.5" samples heavily burned at the local mobile shop. Also saw two months old Note 4 heavily burned at the same mobile shop. So it seems burn-in problem with this latest amoled screens still remains.
Thank you guys for your response! Yeah turning the brightness up to 75‰ is how I got mine. That was when I first got my tablet and had it on 75% for the whole month. I want to walamrt the other day to see the samples. The screen seem imrpoved from when I got mine. I will try to use a autobrightness app
Thread should now be a discussion thread about the burned in pixels. Guess I made it look like a question. Thanks forum mods for telling me about this problem and moving the thread back!
I assume this thread is for burned-in and stuck pixel questions/discussion?
If so: I just went to a couple of local stores to test out the Tab S, with an intention to bring one home. I didn't so far -- all devices (4 in 2 different shops) had pretty severe burn-in from the demo programs that Samsung installs and runs on the devices in the store. A couple of them so much that it was actually disturbing for things like browsing plain web pages (white background); you could read the "inverted" text that had burned in.
One store anticipated the device had been on for 10 hours a day since somewhere August last year, which would make it around 10*6*40 or about 2.400 hours of use -- presumably close to max output on the display in "demo mode".
This caused me to hesitate... is this a common problem with the devices, particular to early models, or just something that happens if you run it for too high output -- or will it happen eventually to all devices? A life-time of less than 2.000 hours seems quite low to me in any case.
Also, when/if it happens, are there any ways to "reset" the screen again, or is the damage permanent?
I have a ~2 yr old S4 that does NOT have any burn-in, but I also use that much less, not at 100% brightness and usually with varying content on the screen. I guess the display technology is similar even if the Tab S is a much newer device.
I never had burn in problems in any Samsung amoled devices (since S1).
Just made sure box was sealed and auto brightness was always on.
Actually, I personally have a worst experience with LCD with light bleed and other issues.
Yeah, No problems with my 10.5" Wifi , I watch a lot of Animi and always run it fullscreen, so no black bars, also i set brightness to auto -5 when i am using it indoors.
No stuck or dead pixels, fingers crossed.
John.
@pacc @tinderbox(UK): That sounds re-assuring. Sounds like it's still safe to go ahead and acquire the device (in my case probably the 32GB WiFi 10.5" edition). Hopefully this is the general experience by most people then.
On the LCD bleeding, then yes, that can be quite annoying too!
Just be glad you did not buy the 8.4" version as that is having some problems with the display that might affect some people.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-s/help/tab-s-8-4-screen-homogeneity-issues-t2826661

I have 8.4 version and the screen is in perfect condition.
You need to use one of the screen test app to check for any problems with the screen before you buy, or the time runs out for you to return the tablet for a refund.
Some people are not bothered, good for them.
John.
I'll test it out thoroughly while it can still be returned. Thanks for the heads-up on that issue as well
If you really want to find every possible quality problem with the display, view a light gray screen in the dark, using a screen test app , set the brightness to low, look for circles and clouding, as well as dead or hot pixels.

I have an S4 I bought used and have used for about a year. It is getting heavily burned in. I am questioning how long this display will last. Hopefully by the time I need to replace it the screens will be cheap

What was burned-in on your S4 , notification bar?, home screen icons? , were you using an navigator app? , how high did you have you brightness set?
Using an low brightness setting can reduce the change of screen burn-in, but if you live in an sunny country you most likely have the brightness set virtually to max to allow you to see the screen outside.
Thanks
John.

I decided to check for stuck pixels on my Tab S again. Turns out, I have 3 stuck ones now! They are really really tiny that I can even notice them. Took me a minute or so to search for them. In order to see them, you have to use a holo background and not full black ones. You would have to find an dark gray image or something like an inverted app but isn't full black which is a good thing for me I guess. The good thing is that they don't appear on bright colors (red, blue, white, etc) which I personally couldn't see it. A holo background or gray image is when I can see it the most. When I put a black image, its fully black with no stuck pixels in sight. So that could mean they still work and turn on and off fine. So I'm thinking it's just stuck when displaying colors other than black.
I've kept my brightness 1/4 bright all the time, only used it for watching videos and browsing the web mostly. It's been one year since I bought this and I personally don't mind it. This is what I've seen so far
Edit: using a screen filter app to darken the screen on an holo image made it show the most so I can see. This lowest stock brightness doesn't seem to show a lot unless you get close to the screen.

A couple of weeks ago a guy bought an demo 10.5" and it had an perfect Samsung logo and stripe burned almost across the entire center of the display, the worst i have ever see.
He was asking would burning in the inverted image reduce the burn-in, I found the exact Samsung wallpaper responsible and inverted it for him, but i never heard anymore, it really needed an new screen.
