TMo Build number question - Nexus 6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I had a day one device 5.0 that when OTA'd upgraded to the LMY47M build which people say is the TMo specific build for some reason or another.
However I recently had to warranty my device through TMo and the replacement is running LMY47D, and checking for updates returns nothing.
Why?

Most likely is that you have a refurbished device but LMY47D is the universal 5.1 build that was issued to everyone else other than T-Mobile or Verizon. There won't be an OTA for that to switch to LMY47M. As long as all your features are working, it is of no matter. There's an expected new OTA possibly on the way soon anyway. 5.1.1 is expected but not yet confirmed.

[Q] unlocked AT&t HTC one v4.1.2 has no software updates available

Unlocked AT&t HTC one running on Tmobile network. (US)
current android version is v4.1.2
checking for updates returns the following message: Your phone is up to date, there are no updates available for your phone. Update AT&t software also does not offer to update anything.
Can someone please advise me what needs to be done to upgrade my phone to a newer version, like 4.3?
Thanks,
Zig

I'm also having this same problem. My phone never updated to 4.3 even after checking after many months. Now 4.4 is around the corner and I hope I don't have the same problem. Anyone have any suggestions?

what is the output of ''fastboot getvar all'' ?
If you are running ATT software with a T-Mobile SIM, I believe you need to get a ATT SIM to update. You do know that you can get all the benefits of T-Mobile service by converting the ATT to a T-Mobile right? I did it the other day and got the free tethering, and the Wi-Fi calling feature, it was really easy to do too. I think the only thing missing from the One is the AWS band, but maybe someone with more knowledge will chime in. You can also convert to a Dev Edition and get updates straight from HTC.

that'd be awesome. how do I convert it to t-mobile? I do have an ATT SIM sitting here but it doesn't have any airtime on it. I've tried popping it in before and doing the update but it still wouldn't show an update.

Needs to be active, to convert to a T-Mobile device, you will need S-Off, change CID to T-MOB010, find the zip file that is posted on the T-Mob section, it is like 0.98gb, flash that zip file it includes the T-Mob recovery and everything you need), then it will find the OTA updates. There is a rumor that when 4.4 is released for T-Mob that they have disabled the free Wi-Fi tethering, so if that is important stick with the 4.3 until that is confirmed or if it's not true. But anyhow, that's how easy it was for me. Of course I am not scared of this device, I have soft bricked it so many times it's silly, and it's always been easy to bring back, knock on wood! And oh ya, if you haven't updated to 4.3 yet, and don't have S-Off, do it now, you will thank yourself later!

The *network* has nothing to do with it.
Google trickles the updates out over a period of several WEEKS.
You either wait for it to hit your SERIAL NUMBER, or you download it from the google factory images page.
I sideloaded through adb on my 100% stock att N6. Really quick and easy.

I have a question for you. Would you be able to pull the OEM partition and send me it? I had AT&T n6 and didn't think to back it up. I'm all root and custom roms

Which Factory image did you sideload? Theres a LMY47D and LMY47E... Also did you have any issues sideloading it on the ATT N6?

I also have a AT&T Nexus running 5.1 factory image. I flashed the D version. Its preloaded with 4 AT&T apps that you can delete. Seems smooth and the towel root method works with no issues. I flashed VIA fastboot method.
Anyone running 47E with the 98R radio on AT&T? If so, thoughts? Working well?

I started with D. Then flashed E image. I could not see any difference in radio performance (nor anything else for that mater). Back to D.
I'm on the e build the radio is faster on the e build on at&t in my area, plus they just posted a newer factory image its an I build

need to revert to 5.0 or 5.0.1 not sure how

I am currently on 5.1 but work for at&t. I just put my work email on my phone that also requires a monitoring service called mobile iron that monitors my phone. My company now thinks my phone i rooted because I have "prerelease" software on my phone and am in danger of getting in some pretty serious trouble. I talked it over with my manager and they're giving me time to fix it, but I need to get off 5.1 as fast as possible.
I can't root and I can't unlock bootloader but I need to get off 5.1.... can i just flash a 5.0.1 ota zip? Really not sure what to do but don't want my company phone taken from me. all my clients know this number.
Thanks in advance

I think the only way to downgrade the version is to flash through the bootloader or flash a custom rom but you can't do either, but 5.1 is officially out so its no longer pre release software.
You have to unlock the bootloader to flash anything. No you cannot flash an older ota (ota patch existing files to new versions, not replace entire files) and as mentioned l, 5.1 is not pre-release.
How did you get 5.1 in the first place?

At&t hasn't approved the software I guess, so by their standards it's considered prerelease. I honestly don't see why it's even an issue, we use the exact same images that gpe versions get so it shouldn't matter. Not sure what to do at this point.

FYI, AT&T have no control over the update process. The update comes directly from Google, for all carriers. As long as you didn't install M or I, you're fine. There is nothing that AT&T could do to prevent anyone getting the update. Except maybe sending a memo out to a staff saying "you'll receive an update from Google. Please, please, please don't accept it"

Again, the carriers don't push the updates. They all come from google. Its not the same as other OEMs like Samsung

Doesn't need root. He could unlock the bootloader, willing the device and then flash the system.img and ROM.img for a 5.0 ROM. Then relock
But its pointless. 5.1 has been released to both versions on the nexus 6. The north American one and the international one. AT&T do not.control updates going to their "branded" nexus 6 device. They're coming from Google directly.
Edit..
Hmm maybe I'm wrong...

Maybe like tmo, Google will be releasing a different 5.1 for at&t. This is disappointing news for nexus devices.
So yeah, unlock BL and flash system.img and boot.img from 5.0

Its not a different 5.1, but they delay the updates. As soon as the update is apppved it won't be considered "prerelease" and everything will be fine. It's a complete formality. But, it is what it is. I guess I'm going to just pull my email off my device and hope the "trackability" breaks. Not willing to risk boot loader unlock as I'll have to give the device back at some point. Again, as long as I don't put any "at-risk" firmware on the device and relock it shouldn't make any difference, but it does.
*sigh*

You can unlock the bootloader and relock it (so long as you check it boots first). There isn't a flag or trip or anything that they will see.,

At&t 5.1.1 ota

Hello all, I am an AT&T nexus 6 user. I am unlocked and rooted. I of course tried the OTA, didn't expect it to work since I'm rooted and it of course didn't work. I checked the factory images and there are only sprint and T-mobile versions of the 5.1.1. My question is can I flash the T-mobile version and have a functioning device? I'm sick of this system notification showing up every day telling me that I need to update. Thanks for the heads up

You can flash anyone you like. They'll all work with various results. AT&T users, however, are getting LMY47Z as an OTA. Ignore Google's labels.

Google finally changed the image label to "5.1.1 (All carriers except T-Mobile US) (LMY47Z)".

[AT&T variant] Any advantage to staying on an earlier bootloader?

My S10 is currently running the bootloader it came with out of the box, ending with ASBA. I am wondering if anyone knows if it will be beneficial later in the future to stay on this old bootloader (in case a root method is discovered maybe) or would I be better off taking the OTA to the latest firmware?

If it's the US version then I'd say take the OTA. A root method is almost certainly never coming so you're only delaying possibly important security patches and system updates.
