[Q] Any one coming from a Nexus 6 - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge

I just got the S6 Edge and im debating returning it for a nexus 6 64GB or returning the edge for a regular s6.
Any one with the same delimma, Im coming from a note 3 so size is not an issue. And I really dont like the idea of never getting root on this phone. Has any one had both?
If verizon sold the nexus 6 64gb it would be an easy choice but ill have to but that a full price 699 vs the 399 for the s6 edge 64gb.
I will say the s6 is fast as hell. I love the finger print reader. And the camera launches fast.

Just my opinion but, I would hold out and keep the S6 Edge. It is an awesome phone with great specs. I am still hopeful for at least root. Give it some time and with Samsung opening up to more themes (hopefully) root may not be needed. I usually root for aesthetic reasons anyway.

I had a Nexus 6, hated it. Too big.
I still have a droid turbo, though, in addition to my S6 - and love it. It has a locked bootloader like the S6, but I don't really care about that.

Came from the Nexus 6 which was enormous and the fact you could root it and unlock it was a plus but the phone was always glitch and just was an on and off good experience. The s6 edge has great specs n loving it so far

Thanks for the input. I can see the nexus being "too big" for some. But I think id rather a phone thats to big sometimes then to small all the time. Ill ponder more!! I

I'm on the n6 now. The wife got the edge last week. She's loving the screen and camera. But the battery life is really frustrating her. I'll be tinkering with it when I get off work to see what the problem is. But for me I wouldn't trade my n6 for any phone that's out right now. I've had nothing but the best experience with it. Great camera. Super fast. Love the big screen. No issues at all.

Note 4 or s6 or note 5...

hey guys, i have a galaxy s4 for about one and a half year, and i plan to buy a new phone, the thing is, i really like the NOTE 4 design, battery, big screen, but it has some lags, and i like the S6 fresh ui, its smoother than all samsungs, and the style is really nice, i dont know what to get, i know that when the NOTE 5 comes out it will have the S6 ui and the NOTE 4 battery and screen, but i dont know if i should wait or get something now, because if i wanna get the NOTE 5 i have to wait for more than half a year.....i appreciate your advice....THANKS

Ya if you don't mind not having a removable battery or expanding memory cause there is no sd card slot. Don't listen to this guy. Go with the note 4 if you don't wanna wait also lg g3 is a great phone. Depending on what carrier you are on will depend on The development for the phone

note 5
I've had all 4 and I cant see myself stopping at the 4
Note 5
Wait for the Note 5. I had a GS4 from launch day in April 2013 up until the Note 4's launch day where I then got the Note 4, I skipped the S5 and waited the extra months and when I got the Note 4 the wait was worth it:
The battery life
Design
Build quality
SPen
Incredible camera
The best display on a mobile
Etc...
I am now happy with my Note 4, the S6 looks like a super downgrade from it,and will get the Note 5 later this year when I open another contract package for my 2nd line.
THANKS guys, i dont mind lack of sd-card as long as i get the 64gb version, but the thing that killing the S6 for me is the screen size, its not small but i have a 5 inch screen now so its not much of an upgrade, and the glass at the back is not the best solution if you drop you device once...maybe i'll check the lg G4 when it comes out....
I have a Note 4 (930F) and i would trade for a S6 edge if someone wants! S6 its the most beautiful phonne ever made

Personally I don't see a major difference between the S6 and Note 4 when it comes to usability other than the fact that the former lacks many of the functions of the latter. Doubt you'd be disappointed with either one. If you prefer VR however I'd suggest waiting for the Note 5 in case it ships with a 4K/UHD screen as the current one isn't sharp enough to eliminate the screen door effect. Highly recommend getting a Gear VR regardless of whichever phone you end up picking.

How is the battery holding up on it? I didn't know they were on sale yet or do you have one from Samsung?

i do not care about the VR, i want a big screen with smooth ui and good battery, all the time i thought that HTC will come with something special but i was wrong, they used the same device from last year but with a better camera...and lg flex 2 lags a lot with lollipop, its like this year there is no choice but to pick the NOTE 4 if you want a big screen, but i know that samsung is lazy, they wont update the NOTE 4 ui to look like the S6 before the NOTE 5 comes out, and thats an issue...

yeah but its too far...
i've had an S2 and wanted to buy the S5 when it got out, i wasnt really amazed by it. Compared to the S4 it had ip67 waterproof, better camera, bit better screen but nothing extraordinary , and its still made of plastic.
I decided to wait it out then i realised the note series existed and i was sold immediatly when i saw the amazing note 4 it feels so nice, battery is awesome, screen is awesome, just everything is awesome about it.
If i were you, i'd wait for the note 5 if you can, like you said the nice UI from the s6 will come to N5 too + small upgrades like camera etc and maybe/probably even a note5 dualedge, so why not wait?
I had to buy a new one as my S5 was nearly at the end of it's life, i couldn't trust it anymore but if your s4 works fine, wait it out
Okay, so I'm in the same boat. I'm using my gf S3 because my S4 jumped from the shelf (literally) and commited seppuku, thus needing a new phone badly. Can anybody point the pros and cons of the Note 4 vs S6? Thinking of getting the S6 64GB but the lack of SD card and removable battery (as well as glass backpanel) are negatives in my book. Is the performance/no lag and screen quality really improved? Also, Wolfson DAC in exynos is a plus for me, being a musician and listening TONS of music on the go with headphones. Getting the Note 4 exynos isn't an option for me.
Thanks in advance!
It's the usual tech dilemma. Buy now or wait for the next big thing. There will always be a "next big thing" just around the corner. Buy now then kick yourself down the road when the presumed and currently unknown N5 comes out. Or suffer phone envy until it comes out. I passed off my S4 for a Note 4 because I wanted an S-pen. Not sorry I did and don't expect I'll be mad at myself for not waiting.

Samsung Galaxy S6 isn't doing it for me

I have a Samsung Galaxy S6 that I got at launch. I came from a Samsung Galaxy Note 3, and I was eager to try out a smaller phone after being on the Samsung Galaxy Note series since they came out. After being on the Galaxy S6, I can tell you that I miss a few things. First thing I miss is the larger screen size of the Note. I don't miss the stylus though as I never used it. I really do like wireless charging of the S6, but I am tiring very much of the lack of root on the Samsung devices.
All these things said, I have been looking at the Nexus 6 for a while now. It just seems like a great fit to me, and I have a buddy upgrade available on one of my family lines. I am concerned with the horsepower on the Nexus 6 though. It isn't that old in comparison to the S6, but maybe it isn't an issue after all. Anyone here move from a Samsung device over to the Nexus 6? I am on Verizon if it matters.

I moved from a S6 to a Nexus 6. Loved the camera on the S6 and the screen was very crisp as well. Honestly i hated not being on a stock android. There was lag everywhere. switching apps would take a while and if you installed a theme from the theme store it would be unusable at times. I got a good deal on the Nexus 6 also picked up a 64 gb version. Theres no lag while playing games either. It does heat up a little while doing some intense gaming , but thats nowhere close to how hot the S6 got from time to time. It will be the first to get the Android M update in a few months time. If you are comfortable with a big screen i thing you will love this device. Only thing i miss is the camera on the S6. Rest the nexus 6 on 5.1.1 is as good as it gets. Im sure people on Verizon would have had similar experience.

Besides the camera and the IR blaster you will not miss annything trust me I had the S6 for 4 days and sold it to use my N6 again. The lag, Touchwizz, bloatware and KNOX we`re too much for me and i will never again buy a Samsung device. I love the Nexus`s and especialy the N6 (size, stereo speakers).
Don`t think you will be sorry, but it takes a few days too get used to the the size but once you do you can`t go back to a small screen.
Thanks for your comments.
I made a short list of things that I missed about the Note series when I was on it and what I did and didn't miss. One of those things is the screen size. After being on large phablet phones for a while, I thought a downgrade on size would be worth trying out. That was a mistake. The stock android experience is something I am starting to miss as well. I have a Google Nexus 7 and I love this tablet. So easy to use and the stock android is pretty darn nice. Lastly, rooting would be nice to go back to but it isn't a huge deal. I have Foxfi which handles most of my rooting issues, but it would be nice to install adblock and other rooted apps. I don't know if I would use a different kernel. Samsung's stance on rooting is really pissing me off to no end.
Now that I saw the Google Nexus 6 lounge, I regret not putting this there. Thanks for your input. I appreciate it.

Thanks for your input. The size isn't a big deal to me. I miss the larger size of my Note 3 right now. I took the chance that maybe I would like a smaller phone with this S6 upgrade, and I didn't mind the size at first but now I am missing my larger phone. I really also don't want to go after a Samsung Note 5 either. I would wait 2 months for the Note 5 and I am not sold on the stylus nor the design of the device. Plus, the locking down of the Samsung device really does piss me off even more so now.
Oh, and I don't even use the IR blaster.
I really want to move to a phablet that isn't Samsung based for a change and the Nexus 6 appears to be my final destination.
There are a few things the S6 does better the the Nexus 6, I just switched back to the N6 after having the S6 since launch:
1 - It is snappier when doing data write intensive tasks. Unfortunately I like to have my devices encrypted so I pay the price on snappiness when downloading or installing apps with the Nexus 6
2 - The screen is a lot better. It is crisper (size/ppi) but it is also higher quality. Better accuracy, brightness... I could go on for days. The Nexus 6 is comparable to the Note 3 screen in accuracy and brightness (I had a Note 3 and 4 in the past)
3 - The camera is a ton better, no real comparison. The Nexus 6 has a good camera, possibly bordering on great its just not the outstanding that the S6/G4 are.
Otherwise when it comes to software and such it is amazing. I am running the M preview and am happy as a lark.

These are good things to know. A couple questions though.
Do you encrypt in case your phone is stolen?
Did you move back to the Nexus 6 because of the larger screen and/or was it the stock android OS?

I encrypt for a couple of reasons, Stolen is one of them.
Yeah stock Android is the main reason. I also really missed my big phone. I went from a Note 3 to Nexus 5 to M8 to Nexus 6 to Note 4 to S6 and while the S6 is the best phone I have ever owned and the Note 4 the best large phone, the software just didnt do it for me.
Android 5.0+ is just too beautiful to be hidden all the time by crappy skins or broken animations. I enjoyed some of Samsungs changes, like the allowing of a single non-play store app at a time without having to set Unknown Sources to always on, multi-window, app bubble things and a few others.
My wife has the S6, which is why I went with the N6. Love it. I love the lack of bloatware. S6 has the camera going for it, but that's all.
A lot of Samsung's extra features I really didn't take advantage of. The app bubbles were pretty nice, but I didn't like multi-window. It just wasn't that useful to me.
I placed an order for my Nexus 6 about 10 minutes ago. Back to stock android I go. I am going to update the phone and then root this sucker for sure. From what I have been reading, it isn't hard to do.

Purchased N6 but requesting return... Good decision?

I'm coming from n5 and really wanted to upgrade to n6p until I saw the price! This is one of reasons I didn't upgrade to n6 when it was released last year, the other being that it seemed too big!...
I recently purchased n6 64gb for about £200 from rakuten (£200 as got £80 worth of points)... I'm a tinkerer and love timely updates to OS when Google releases new versions and hence why I really wanted you stay with nexus, plus the fact that there's more development for nexus devices than any other devices...
I've requested a return but not received the RMA yet... I was probably going to stay with n5 until n6p prices come down or buy either moto x style or g4 whichever received timely Android 6 update...
Any advice / suggestions welcome ? Am I going to regret sending n6 back especially considering the price (my main reason for sending back is the size... Seems like a spade in my hand and I've had a look and no other manufacturer has released such a ginormous phone recently... Even Google played safe this time with 5.7")...same as note 5!...
Also, as current owners of n6 what would you say about the size? Have you learnt to live with it or do you love the size that any smaller you would find hard to accept?
ginormous.. its all related to how you personally see the world. i had a n5, bought a n6, grabbed my n5 3 days later and it felt way to small. i im not a big person. im 5'7", with medium small hands. and the n6 feels so perfect in size.
I love my n6. I will get the n6p for no reason when it goes down in price. My n6 was 300. Oh yea I will be giving it to my sister and keeping the n6p. I would keep the n6 if I was you. For the reason that there is not one phone out there like it. This phone is so unlocked unblocked. You can never stop doing so much to it. Hopefully n6p is as equal.
I had a nexus 6 then I jumped to an S6 then Note 5 and now I'm back to a Nexus 6 if that tell you anything.
N6 was only "Too big" for about 2 hours. Now it feels so normal I think all other phones are to small. But I do think that n6 is the maximum size phone for me.
Many thanks for all the replies...much appreciated. Going to sleep over it but looking more like I'll be keeping it now ????
I came from a N5 about 2 weeks ago. Always felt the N6 was too big, but after the recent price drops on it at Amazon I bought one... 2 days later I got used to it fully and now love the size. Even my wife who is tiny, is starting to like the size of the phone. I loved the N5 but at this point I feel the N5 is just too small now. I love the N6. But I get that the N6 is not for everyone.
I've used the N6 off and on since February, and I still feel it's to big, sane as the Xperia z ultra I had. Note 4 was a better size, though somewhat awkward to hold for me. My bit to small, but i I'm switching back to it when ever my brother sends it back to me. I was going to get the N6P but I think I'll wait a bit, maybe get the Xperia Z5P.

Similar but not exactly same... Note 4 about 5mm+ smaller in length and width and does not feel as big as n6 (I purchased note 4 about 6 months ago and it turned out to be fake so sent it back to fleebay seller!)...
RMA paperwork has come - decision time!!!!!
I am get used to the N6 size in just a few days, came from N5.
And now, I cannot have phone with smaller screen size.
5.7" is OK, but N6P is ridiculously expensive right now. So, I am holding not to upgrade. Besides, N6 is still decent, great performance, great battery life (even better with Android 6.0)!

Right I think I'm keeping the phone but before I start messing about with it I need to know what to check to ensure I don't have a faulty phone or refurbished unit sold as new as I've read in a few places...
Any common problems to watch out for please?
Thanks
speaker distortion, yellow tint, half screen glitched, loose speaker grill, peeling letter on back. there are probably drive I forgot. you can search earliest threads in Q&A I think.
well i recently bought the Nexus 6, and i love it to bits.
i always was a Sammy fan but i got sick of the source codes not being released for the Exynos models of theirs... and their latest Phones s6 etc. are kind of locked completely so i made a jump to the Nexus 6 from my Note 4 which i still have,
and damn even though the Nexus 6 is bigger it feels so much better than my Note 4, and the bigger plus point is the Custom Rom section it got loads of Roms.
i even think that it looks way way better than the new Nexus 6p , it depends on you and your wallet in the end though.
i would suggest keeping your current Nexus 6 simply because it is a beautiful beast , it rocks.
my only minus poiint is that the battery is abit disappointing .

Thanks - Just like you I was a big Sammy fan until I tried a Nexus 4 and instantly loved the speed and experience...and not long after decided to purchase Nexus 5 which i've nearly had for two years and still loving it...but wanted a change!
I was going to give Sammy another go with either S6 or Note 4 until I saw their ridiculous prices and lack of memory expansion not to mention swappable battery (though this would not bother me if the manufacturers use a decent size battery!)...and thought nah...Sod Samsung for their arrogance, they wont get my custom!

S7 Edge

Am I the only one considering upgrading to the s7 edge? Only cons for me are going to a smaller screen (I think) and no micro usb c. The main reason I want it is the 3600 mah battery and snapdragon 820. The Nexus 6 has been great and I've had it for over a yr which isn't common for me heh. What are your opinions on the S7 edge?
Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Don't think I can go back to a much smaller screen. I'd rather keep using the N6 as daily driver and wait for the 2016 Nexus or Moto X Pure.
Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk
The screen size isn't as much an issue here as dealing with, in order of severity, locked bootloaders, Touchwiz, Knox, and bloatware. Not a good trade, and waiting for the next Nexus is the better option.
It has bloatware (Nova Launcher can hide this)
Locked bootloader, I have not rooted anything in ages.
My biggest pet peeve is that March next year you will be wondering when will you see Android N.
The next biggest pet peeve is the small screen.
Me I can wait 6 or 7 months and see what Nexus 2016 is like, hopefully they bring back Qi Charging.
Yeah 1 can only hope for it getting root, seeing as I have Verizon on top of that. I think it'll be nice not tinkering with my phone everyday. I'll more than likely get bored with it and go crazy not flashing anything. I could just get the S7E and if the new Nexus is worth it and just sell the Edge and pay the difference.
Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk
Hi there!
I've had a Nexus 6 for the past few months. In-between I ran a S6 Edge for a few weeks. Here's a few points to look our for on the S7 Edge during my experiences on the S6 Edge.
1. Read up on how the battery lasts. The S6 Edge has (arguably) the most beautiful screen ever put onto a phone. The battery life was awful though, so to get through a day on minimal use I had to have adaptive brightness on down at the 20% mark. It really annoyed me that I had this glorious screen I couldn't use in case my battery was all used before I even made it to work in the morning!
2. Check to see if the Edge apps functionality has improved. I had Lollipop on it when I first purchased it. The Edge apps were completely redundant. I could add callers and extra apps (nothing that a 3rd party browser couldn't add to the home screen), and also there was a swipe function to check weather etc that worked 50% of the time. I joined the beta programme for Marshmallow and the Edge apps hadn't really improved.
3. The lack of an unlocked bootloader, and the squeeze this had on development on the likes of XDA drove me a bit crazy. I use to be a bit of a flash addict, but have now settled down, but I still like to try new things every now and again even though I revert back to my favourites.
4. I missed the N6 screen size.
5. Touchwiz is vastly improved, but considering the spec differences I felt no speed differences between the S6 Edge and N6. (I don't play games on my phone so wouldn't know the difference between the 2 in more demanding tasks.)
6. The camera on the S6 Edge is stunning, and I can imagine will be better on the S7.
To summarise, I can imagine the S7 and S7 Edge being good phones. My advice if you were to choose one would be to go with the S7, as unless the software and functionality is massively improved, the S7 Edge won't justify the extra price.
And I much prefer my N6 over the S6 Edge...
Going to be a great phone. But the snails pace of updates, especially the security updates is a deal killer for me. I could live without mods and root but updates are an issue for me.
Sent from my Nexus 6 using XDA Labs
S7 isn't even an option, screen size would be way too small. And it only has a 3000 mah battery vs the 3600 in the S7E.

I just read your response .... What do you gain from xda if you aren't rooting your phones and have your purchases guided by the disaster of all disasters --- a locked bootloader !! ???
I....actually wouldn't mind going to a smaller screen. While I greatly, and I mean, greatly enjoy the size of my N6, there are times where I wish that it was a tad smaller. As real life is consuming so much more of my spare time, I spend less time watching videos, rooting, and tinkering, and more time handling stuff for work or home. Specifically, using the camera to take pics of my children will be easier to quickly take out and handle a smaller phone.
However, as far as the S7 goes, it is coming to look like a beast, and I will be getting one for my wife...not me. TouchWiz is my Achilles' Heel. Always has been. I'm waiting for HTC's next iteration to see whether or not I want to take the plunge into a Samsung device for myself, or another Nexus. LG is out of the question. Their UI is just not my style.
Well, depending on your carrier, you likely are not going to be able to do much if you have Verizon or AT&T given that they both lock their bootloaders. I'll fully admit, last fall I WAS going to buy a Note 4, but it was sold out so I got the Nexus 6 instead. Turned out to be the best thing that ever happened. I remember having to chase down my specific build for my make and carrier, it wasn't just "Shamu" for everyone. Seems like every "non-Nexus" phone is one-misstep from "bricking" the device. No thanks. From accidentally downgrading the bootloader, to flashing the wrong firmware, etc, etc...............
Good experience and less headache with the Nexus. I'll never buy a non-Nexus phone again.
I might consider S7 Edge as well, looks to be perfect piece of hardware. I know i would get late updates with samsung but who cares, i don't remember a single update that brought better daily functions to my nexus 6 from google. For example, they didn't even bring slow motion video capture, no led light, no double tap to wake. There's nothing useful for daily usage in a nexus but instant empty updates. I don't care much if i am patched to february security in day one like if any hackers targeted me.
How long before a Verizon S7 edge gets rooted? Never????

It took forever for the Verizon S5 to get rooted, the Verizon S6 Edge will probably never get rooted and same for the S7 Edge.
KNOX just keeps getting tougher.
All the more reason to avoid Samsung if you want to develop.

AT&T/Verizon Note 4 from early 2014 is still waiting for permanent root. Take a look at the bounties on post #1.

Good thing I sold mine to move to the Nexus.
I figure if I do get it, Verizon has a trade in promo where I can get 100 for trading in my old bionic. I'll put 300 down on the phone so the payments will be $20. Then I can sell my nexus for $200-300 and sell the free gear s2 for another $200-300. The phones pretty much paid off then. And I can sell my s7 edge need be if the new Nexus it worth it. Decisions decisions

I would love a 6 edge, I love the design of the galaxy series since the s6 (minus useless home button) I especially love the silver. Now that it has a snapdragon 820 we might get some custom ROMs. Only real drawback is the price and having to increase my phone bill by $30+
Its not really that knox has gotten better but because those that have the knowledge on being able to bypass the locks hae sworn off of ever working on Samsung devices again.

I can't find an alternative phone to replace my beloved N6

I've had this phone almost 2 years now. It's a beast, I love the big screen, it's fast and it's pure android. The other day I was thinking if it was time to replace and upgrade to a new phone and did a bit of research. I have a budget so nothing too fancy or any latest releases. So had a look at Mate 8, Mate S, Huawei P9, OnePlus 3, Lg V10, even 6p.
To be honest nothing wowed me. Similar specs, maybe few plus sides but nothing made me go 'ok that's it'. Maybe the fingerprint scanner but I'm not fussed really.
So anyone in the same boat let me know if you've find any good alternatives or are you waiting for Pixel phones. I'm interested if anyone else is looking for an upgrade.
My other option is to wait another year once the Pixel phones go cheaper and upgrade to Pixel XL.
So let me know what you guys think..
Cheers

I hate Samsung. I'd rather to buy a Nokia 5110 then a Samsung! Are you waiting for Pixel phones to upgrade?
Awaiting pixel xl and Honor 9 to see if I give up my N6. If they don't wow me, I'll just keep the N6 until something does.

I don't really have high hopes for Pixel XL really. I reckon if I want to upgrade 6p is going to be my choice as the price will drop once Pixel is launched.
I'm in the same boat as you, I really wanted to upgrade to the Note 7 despite my hate for TouchWiz, but there are launchers to fix that. Until that whole battery explosion fiasco happened around the same time my contract ended so I decided to hold off for the Pixel phones. I guess I will know for sure next week, if the Pixel lineup isn't any good then I might get the Note 7 or S7 Edge.
If not I could wait for Samsung's new galaxy lineup, which will be announced early next year

That explosion thing totally put me off too. I don't think I can afford a Samsung at the moment anyway looks like my best bet is either wait for next year and buy cheaper Pixel XL or buy 6p now and use it next 2-3 years.
The 6p is pretty nice. I have a N6. Got a 6p used. I like good audio for podcasts mostly. I watch hours of video at work. Both running Pure Nexus. Very snappy. Its a tossup . I like them both equally. Got a 5x for the kid. She loves it.
there's nothing coming up that I feel is an upgrade across the board, I got the shamu on launch day and was also expecting to pick up a pixel but its been a let down so far with design/specs/price
I'm thinking maybe catching a 6p on fire sale price around thanksgiving or new year, or going with the cheaper midrange chinese oems(oneplus 3/saxon 7) depending on development support
all meh choices so there's a good chance I'll stay put with this device into next year

Op3, it is dev friendly. If is true that the new pixels will kill the nexus line, I think that I must give a prize to a company that is close to developers, no locked bootloader or similar bull..it

Why replace it? If you want new device, keep your beloved N6 and buy new one someday I personally can't live with only one phone, there are too many awesome devices out there (in my opinion). But if money is the problem and you need to sell N6 in order to be able to buy a new one, then it's a whole different story and understandable
I can't anything that wowed me like my n6. I would like a op3 but with the lack of band 13 for verizon, and my area is covered with it. I'm stuck with verizon for the most part, only have coverage with most of the rural area I live in. Sprint roams off verizon, the nearest tower for tmo is 15 miles away and I live in the mountians. ATT has the 2nd best coverage, but doesn't have service in my house, and it a lot of areas I go to. I used to be a samsung fan until they started with the knox crap, after my s3, I have never had an samsung device again. I was a fan of Motorola, until Lenovo took over. Looks like I'll be sporting my n6 for a while. At my work, I've actually been pushing the n6 for people to buy them lol

Samsung Galaxy s6 Edge plus !! The best for me.

The Nexus6 P works a treat on XDA development and has longevity in its gene's!

Well, my phone buying pattern has been like this;
Palm Treo 650, 2004
HTC Dream ADP1, 2008
HTC Vision, 2010
Samsuck Relay, 2012 (first and LAST samsuck I will ever buy)
Nexus 6, 2014.
Note the pattern: update when there is something WORTH updating to. For a little while, that was a 2-year cycle. THIS cycle will go longer, since this N6 is still perfect. Should have seen the condition of the palm treo when I was done with it -- the lots-of-pins plug was removed, had a capacitor sticking out the bottom of it, and a custom charging plug, a couple of resistors soldered onto the inside near the battery. That 2004-2008 range was REALLY desolate, sure wasn't going to buy RIM or FRUIT junk.
I will be buying my wife a Pixel XL to replace her N5, and sticking to the N6 for myself. Why? Well the pixel XL will have a better SoC, but not *so* much better that it will have ANY impact on my life.
As far as the 6p goes, straight across the board, it is either equal or LESS than the N6.
Screen: less
RAM: equal
CPU: less (the SD810 is definitely NOT as good as the 805, it was just adequate for them to be able to bump the number to say "64bitz!!!", which won't actually do any good in a phone).
Not that the 6p is a terrible phone or anything, but I already have something slightly BETTER than it, so it would be stupid to get one.
Actually, my N6 recently suffered a... mishap. Got some impact thanks to a 2 year old, that even with a ballistic maxx, caused a couple of cracks in the digitizer, and SHATTERED the AMOLED. Yeah, it was worth buying a new screen for it. TOTALLY worth it.

I'm in the same boat, was kinda waiting for the Lenovo Phab Tab 2 Pro, but it has been delayed till 'this fall'.
Don't want to go back to much in screen size, so i'm undecided for now....
