[Q] Which CWM version for ext4 fomat, for Cooper? - Galaxy Ace S5830 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am currently using CWM 5.0.2.6 as it is universally suggested the appropriate for Galaxy Cooper.
The problem is that this version can only format the sd card up to ext3, and not ext4.
I want to try the Ulimatum rom with all its goodies and I need ext4 format in partition for Swapall. My sd card is super fast class 10 u3.
I have read that in many cases 6.x.x.x versions end up in blue screens or fail to reboot.
Although I use minitool for partions, when installing a new rom at some point devs ask to format memory before installation, so even if it was originally in ext4 it reverts back to ext3 after the CWM format with the 5.0.2.6 version.
Which version I can safely use for ext4?

You can use the ext4 format with CWM without problems, CWM's version is NOT important, but it can't create this typ of partitions, so you need ypur PC to create an ext4 partition (Gparted, Minitool partiton magic...)
If you want to flash The Ultimatum Rom or another CM7 based ROM you must use a CWM 5.x based recovery.
Use CWM 6.x just for CM11
To use ext4 format >>> all versions are safe
To flash the Ultimatum ROM >>> CWM 5.x

Q. setting up a2sd using clockwork mod

hi, i've looked everywhere for help and i just can't understand for some reason. so i'm trying to set up DT a2sd on a gingerbread rom that supports it. so i partition my sd card using clockwork mod for 512mb ext partition. then i wipe data using clockwork mode so it wipes everything, but then when i run the rom there is no a2sd partition seen by quick system info and my memory fills up quick. this is after i have flashed a compatible rom and the latest dt a2sd zip. when i look at the sd card on my computer it shows that the ext partition i created is in fact ext4, which i think isn't compatible. so when i manually set the partition to ex3, and run a rom, the apps install onto the ext partition but they force close and i can't open any of them. and when i wipe in clockwork mod, it converts the ext3 to ext4 again. any help?? thanks

[Q] try to partition SD card for A2SD+ through clockwork.

Hi all,
my fist post on xda and a noob as well with my first android.
I had someone do my first root and put GEOs rom, as i wanted close to stock to learn android some more, I now want to jump on your rom. the A2SD version
so I try to partition SD card for A2SD+ through clockwork.Then download your rom. By rom manager.
before flashing rom phone info shows (android version 2.3.3 GRI40) and then after flash showing (android version 2.3.3 GRI40) ?
how can my phone be the same rom version pre & post flash with out doing nand back-up?
as that must mean I must have screwed up after flash ?
do I flash this as well ? GRJ22 system dump (boot.img/system.img):
if I do do I flash rom first or system dump first ?
as well not positive when partition SD card for A2SD+ through clockwork that it did partition sd card right way?
I am noob to use ADB and prompt commands and my micro sd slot on comp is not working
is there android app to partition SD card and or check if partition worked on sd card ?
sorry for long post
can anybody help
PS I am trying to flash this rom

If the custom ROM you flashed is base on the same Android version than it's still gonna be the same Android version.
What does the "MOD version" say?
You can partition SD card using CWM or Amon Ra recovery. This is not an app, it's your custom recovery. If I'm reading it right you already have CWM recovery.

I am on GEOs rom Gingerbread 2.3.3 (GRI40)
and i want to flash this Gingerbread 2.3.4 [GRJ22] the App2SD one from this thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=13430563&postcount=1
I went in to recovery to CW via rom manager and then run partition tool in
recovery, but when trying to DL a APP that needs sd card to be partitioned
it fails to run. saying sd card must be partitioned first.
so I take it CWM recovery failed to partition my sd card and I cant figer out how I my rom version stayed the same after coming out of flash ? with out having to do a droid back-up if I screwed up the flah process? afrer trying to flash a 2.3.4 rom. that is App2SD supported rom.
If you were trying to flash another ROM and it fail to flash for whatever reason, than you're still running your
current ROM. That's why when you left cwm and booted up, it just went back to whatever you had already.
Basically it never got to a point of writing anything, it did some check and found you didn't have correct partition
so it probably aborted.
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk
ok but status bar in recovery did its thing for around 5 minutes with no error message. So I take it CM recovery cannot partition SD card properly ?
is there away around it besides CW recovery and command promts via sdk on pc. like a APP?
or even a APP to check if CW is Partitioning sd card Properly ?
thanks for the help
ClockworkMod recovery should be able to partition your card without an issue. When doing it, it will wipe your card, so make sure everything is backed up. Pay attention to what is on the screen when you do this. It will show you any error messages that may occur. So, if you didn't see any error messages, your card should be partitioned. Same goes for when you flash. It should show you why it didn't flash (assuming it didn't).
You can use minitool partition wizard on your PC and it will preserve your data without wiping it out like Gparted/Unbutu.
To check your partitions download terminal from market or use adb and type
Su
Busybox df -h
It will show partitions fat, ext and swap sizes.

2G =>256mb
4g=>512mb
8g=>1G
and the partition 2 is swap
you can chose 128 or 256

Yes,you can.After that you can use S2E or Link2SD to config SD-ext.I gess you flash New Experience rom 9.9.1,it already has S2E and very smooth.

thanks... I tried to use it before and it creates a right ext 4 partition, but the rom (lenio rom v4) does not recognize the partition
I tried to label the partition "sd-ext" or with no label
but in both modes it does not work
incredible... I did the ext4 by minitool but the a2sd on lenio v4 does not recognize the sd-ext
update:
created ext4 by minitool partition wizard, but it seems that phone can't recognize it, coz the rom does not see the partition
is there something to do to make the phone create/see ext4 partitions?
tried the last attempt, with another CWM (5.0.2.8 touch ext)
I partitioned the SD, choosing ext4, but when I control, it's ext3
why that???

maybe the CWM failed to format it with ext4 file system,
or the ROM you use failed to identify ext4 file system, some guys told me there are ROMs that don't support the ex4 yet, you may want to read your ROM specification,
or somehow the ROM need additional script to read ext4 file system properly,
recently I've tried more than 10 times partitioning my SD cards, but most of it failed in attempts,
it won't be mounted as second partition, therefore I can't use Link 2 SD properly,
My ROM is PAC 22.1.0
I've tried partition tools: Minitool, CWM 5, AParted (SDCARD Partiton Tool) app, checked the partition table with Partition Table app, trying to mount second partiton manually with Android Terminal Emulator (using "mount" command), success using CWM.
I've tried ext2, ext3, ext4 partitions, but success only with FAT32 file system,
I think in the process I've delete some media in /system partition, maybe it creates problem since Link 2 SD need to modify some files in /system partition to mount the second partition,
I tried with Lenio vQuattro, partitioning with minitool, the sd-ext was correctly partitioned as ext4, but the phone did not saw the sd-ext. The rom is done to use only ext4.
So I went back to the most recent cm 10.1 (with ext3 and int2ext+) because this is my only phone and I need it to phone
Better use mini tool partition wizard..
You can choose the type of part,like ext2 ext3 or ext4..

Int2ext on Jelly Bean

Hi guys Do I need a special version of int2ext in order to use it with Jelly Bean rom (in particular CM 10.1)? An ext4 partition will be fine for this use? Last but not least: to install this script is needed a special procedure (like mount /system and /data in recovery)? Thank you for your help and time Have a great life, peace!

1. Int2ext scripts work in JB
2. .ext4 is the best option
3. The procedure is always the same:
First of all create you sd-ext partition using MiniTool Partition
Code:
1. Backup your current data (optional)
2. Boot into CWM/Go back to CWM menu
3. Flashing the script:
>>> mount data
>>> mount system
>>> mount sd-ext
>>> format SD-EXT (YOUR EXTERNAL PARTITION, NOT YOUR SD!)
4. Flash the script!
5. Reboot system

You can create your sd-ext using your pc or CWM, I advise you to use your PC (MiniTools Partition). It's safe, easy and you can choose .ext4 format
Using CWM >> Format sd-ext command will wipe your sd-ext data, so don't worry about "re-format" your sd.ext, it won't change your sd-ext's system format
The best, the safest & the easiest way to create a partition on your SD card is always via your custom recovery. You can format it to the EXT4 file system using the EXT4 conversion tool by PSDNA. Mini partition tool killed my brand new 4GB class 4 SD card.
Also nothing special for Jelly Bean as @Viper The Ripper said. It is just the same drill & yeah, cronmod scripts support all android versions & the flashing procedure always remains the same. I recommend you to use INT2EXT+.

I created succesfully a 768mb EXT4 partition with Minitool Partition flawlessly. First I formatted the SD card with Windows. Than into Minitool Parition I deleted the whole FAT32 partition, created a new FAT32 partition set as active with 768mb unallocated. Last thing I did was allocate that 768mb as EXT4. All partition are created as primary, not logical. Also used diskinfo on android and got that 768mb working without problems. Hope my steps are good hints for you to avoid other dead SD cards

WARNING - I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR WHATSOEVER DAMAGE CAUSED TO YOU OR YOUR DEVICE OR YOUR SD CARD ITS YOU WHO IS TAKING RISK SO YOU WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE SAME ,THIS IS A POTENTIALLY RISKY THING SO BEWARE THAT YOU DONT DO ANYTHING OUT OF GUIDE BY VIRTUE OF YOUR DISCRETION.
Note :- This guude may at times may frustrate you but keep patience as its fruits will b sweet
Note2 :- Sd card recommended is class 10 and not class 6 as per my experience on lollipop this os require high io capabilities.
Note3:-This guide is made around twrp recovery so philz lovers may have problem with this ,sorry for that but cant do anything about that, a addition in custom twrp will be that you can backup/restore NVRAM AND OEM PARTITIONS.
So now lets start
.1.First of all we start with partitioning sdcard;
Warning : backup your sdcard before partitioning.
(i) Partition the sdcard in 4 parts (for this you can use Gparted(Ubuntu) or mini partition tool (windows))
(ii)For 32gb sdcard (my partition sizes)
P1 size 24.6 GB filesystem fat32 To be used as mass storage(Primary partition)
P2 size 900 MB filesystem EXT4 To be used as /system(Primary partition)
P3 size 4 GB filesystem EXT4 To be used as /data (Primary partition)
P4 size 150 MB filesystem EXT4 To be used as /cache (Primary partition)
Note : you can vary these sizes according to your need ad storage constraints but no no /system /data /cache shall b less than 800mb 1gb 70mb respectively.
(iii) Now comes rom installing part;
Note : Prefer to keep stable ROMs like stock kk or cm11 on internal and bleeding edge ROMs like lollipop on sd.
(a) if you installing lollipop 5.1 By backup then ,
- using philz restore it, guve it first boot;
-switch to official twrp backup the /system /data /cache and name tge backup as "lollipop"
-Install whichever rom you want in internal storage (preferably kk);
-Now switch to custom TWRP recovery (download link given in end of this post);
-paste in the lollipop backup "boot" backup(boot.emmc.win) and (download link given in end of this post);
(b)if you are installing lollipop rom by zip then
-edit updater script of the rom's zip and change the partition address
Open updater script with notepad++
Find - mmcblk0p14
Replace with - mmcblk1p2
Find - mmcblk0p16
Replace with - mmcblk1p3
Find - mmcblk0p15
Replace with - mmcblk1p4
-save it;
-repack tge zip;
-Besure that you are on custom TWRP
-FLASH ZIP
-done.
Congratulations you have dual booted your phone
(iv)To switch between the ROMs you just have to to flash /boot partition
-for booting into sd's rom (lollipop) restore lollipop backup's boot;
-For booting into emmc's rom flash that rom's boot.imh
(For convenience and ease backup emmc rom's boot by twrp and then whenever you want to switch just restore emmc's or sd's(given in download link) rom boot backup as the caee may be reboot into system)

So, would you like to add more explanations to help me follow the instructions so that I can make my phone into dual boot mod.
