best backup - T-Mobile Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

What is the best back up app I can use if I'm not rooted?

I'd say my backup

Definitely depends on what your trying to backup. Google backs up my contacts and what not but if i wanna backup texts ive used smsbackup. Did a quick google for you, you could try this. Dont personally have experience with it but looks legit

Samsung Kies, it will grab pretty much everything.

Wiping and then restoring apps and data

Hrm, how can I say =P
I`m running the last cyanogenmod right now (3.9.5)
I never wiped my phone since I came from JF1.51 (yes, I had to wipe after starting using cyanogenmod
I want to make a wipe when getting to 3.9.6 and clean my ext3 partition as well...
I have a lot of apps configured and don`t want to loose then! Also, I don`t want to loose my configs of that apps (some are hard to configure =P)
How should I proceed?
obs. sorry for my bad english =P
You can try backing up your appdata using one of the various apps on the market (backup for root users, etc.). But theres no real guarantee that its going to work. I doubt the settings will even be saved. You're more than likely going to have to re-set up all of your apps to get them how you want. Thats just the downside of playing with custom roms.
I see =P
thanks man! I`ll try that!
What would be better? Backup for root or Mybackup pro?
I just want to backup my apps, marketdb and the config data of apps
I would stay away from Mybackup pro.... It corrupts the data so that you cannot use the sync features for contacts anymore in gmail. It also corrupts the text message data so that you cannot use SMSBackup. If neither of these don't bother you then Mybackup pro is worth the money except it bothers me now because I want to backup my text messages to my gmail with SMSbackup and I cannot because SMSbackup cannot read them due to whatever Mybackup Pro did to them while it was backing them up..

Anyone else experiencing this? My also use MyBackUp Pro, but not the other stuff mentioned above. Why would it need to alter the data to back the up?

When I used MyBackUp Free back in the day, I also had the same problem. It corrupted the contacts, and no longer synced till I reflashed.. =/

You got lucky then! Even after I reflashed, I had no luck restoring my contacts. What I had to end up doing was restoring from what little I had on the SIM card from way back in the day and update the rest by hand. It took a long time but was worth it because now I can use gmail sync without any worries. I will forever stay away from MyBackup Pro! Wish I could get my money back LOL
to back up ur stuff like game saves use this app http://www.cyrket.com/package/com.protocol.x.su.fbs
once installed make ur way to the root of your fone directory not the sd card root. once there find the folder called data click on it, then click on the folder also called data, then look for your app info [like a game save] you wanna back up, long press on it and select copy. then go back to your sd card and press menu then paste. please do not use this app for bad things, i will not say anymore.
i use it to back up my game saves from go go rescue and the bowling game.

[APP-suggestion] Titanium Backup (must have!)

of all the apps that i use on my android phones the most (CoPilot aside) is Titanium Backup Full/Pro/Donate whatever you want to call it.
Just make sure you unlock it to get the DropBox feature.
in the Nexus S with the lack of the extra external storage, it's almost a must have to be able to back/restore all your apps & settings online, and on the go, so that if crap happens, you can easily just restore them all back.
it also facilitates a lot when we are constantly trying out new ROMs
with the 1 click restore feature
How do you do it mate? I backed up to phone then synced with dropbox? Is that it? Would be awesome if someone made a drop box music player lol
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
I highly recommend Titanium Backup. The donate version is a must for anyone who flashes ROMs.

Just google it: "Nandroid vs MyBackup Pro vs Titanium Backup." You'll gain all the information you need. It's been talked a lot.
Nandroid = Every nook and cranny.
Titanium Backup = Basically everything app related and system settings. Doesn't touch the OS itself. Pro version has that auto install feature when you restore apps.
MyBackup Pro = Dunno if it changed much, but it backs up everything app related. No system settings. Also backs up app data if you have root. Restore app one by one.
I might have forgotten something because the last time I used MyBackup was about year or two ago.

Actually, MyBackup Pro does back up system settings. Also backs up SMS and MMS and photos. Also batch restores the apps.
What I did not have a good experience is backing up contacts as it conflicts with google's contact sync and I ended up with double contacts..this was almost a year ago though..
Another recommendation here though only for the pro version. The regular version is just a pain to back up and restore all your apps.

it's true about the pain to restore
but the FREE version you still have the 1 button backup everything option

Titanium Backup Pro vs MyBackup Pro

Since flashing new ROMs is the flavor of the season, restoring apps and other stuff on the fone is most required.
Which of these two apps do you prefer?
I am talking about the paid versions here cos the free versions on both TB & MBP are a little buggy.
Here are the pros & cons of either:
Titanium Backup Pro-
PROs
A legend in terms of apps as a whole, has probably been the longest standing and most successful app
various additional features like market links, freezing programs, pulling data from nandroid backups, removing bloatware, etc
CONs
Can get difficult to use for a first timer
not a very easy to use interface
MyBackUp Pro
PROs
Very easy to use interface
Backups both apps & data along with your sms, contacts, settings & even your home page layout
CONs
Does not work accurately 100% of the times
Lots of folks have reported loss of data or unsuccessful restores
do post your thoughts here & any other positives or negatives you know.
it would be good to share your experiences on either & why you prefer one over another.
also feel free to post if you know of any other app which can compete against these 2
i use titanium pro
4 me better than mybackup pro
< titanium > u can restore ur apps + data from cwm backup
rulz
5!
I've only recently started using titanium again and love it. Can't believe I'd forgotten about it for so long!

I use go backup. Never had any issues. It backs up everything and restores it perfectly.

Titanium Backup Pro all the way. If you sit down and just have a fumble through all its menus it's a pretty simple little program.
If you have any troubles, there are tonnes! Of video tutorials that describe this program, and what it can do.
I use my backup root. Not sure what the difference is but it restores apps and data, got a separate freeze app, it's not laggy and best of all it's free. Check it out... Need to be rooted though

GoBackup is the easiest way to do this. Awesome interface and tools. Does app + data etc. It's free

i use titanium backup
i dont care about the look or interface as long as it is doing the job
i assumed that majority of the folks would be using Titanium backup and the rest mostly would be with my backup..
i haven't even seen go backup, goto check it out

GO Backup - easy, so easy to use - backs up sms, mms, contacts, call logs, homescreen layouts, wifi aps, user app+data. Best of all it's free and ad-free. The paid version adds cloud backup function.
When restore apps using Titanium, is there a way to install apps at once install of being asked for permission to install each individual app?
Only if you are using the pro version of Titanium backup. If you are, click on the top right corner icon and select restore all apps with data. Select /De-select the ones you want. This is also known as a batch restore.
My favourite is
Titanium Backup. Lots of features that other backup managers do not have.
Sent from the future, LIKE A BOSS
Yeah agreed Titanium backup. Must be pro version though, as free version is too limited. Just had a look at Go Backup and are also impressed as its free and can backup home layout. I don't believe TB can do this.

Have tried all Go Backup and TBP and MBP(tough the title's just TBP VS MBP.
If the case is TBP vs MBP, it's sure victory on TBP.
Never find any single bug for as long as I remember, and yes I've been using it 3 years.
I happen to restore whatssapp before, using MBP, but it won't open, so I have to redownload the app, & yes that's the last time I use MBP.
Go Backup's pretty cool but it can't back up all of your apps into one flashable zip pack
This is the coolest feature that none of the others have.
FYI TBP also have cloud storage feature

[Q] Backup & Reset setting

I was wondering about this setting, does it matter if I choose HTC or Google? Also what is the benefit of this setting? Should I not rely on this at all and keep with things like Titanium Backup?

I use Google backup for everything, but Titanium is always useful, especially if you wanted to keep app specific files. HTC backup is a replacement alternative to Google. I use Google for everything so I decided not to use the HTC backup.

Google never restores apps when I set up a new phone

I can't get Google to restore apps after a factory reset.
I have keep phone backed up checked and select restore my phone when signing in.
However it doesn't and when I go to play store or use any Google app it asks me to sign in again and restore phone isn't an option, kust the check box to keep phone backed up.
How do I fix this?

After flashing hundreds of roms I have found googles restore feature to work about 5% of the time. I think you are just out of luck if you want to rely on that. I use titanium backup and while it's not perfect, it works much more reliably then google restore.

I agree but I'd like this to work.
