maps offline

rightio well obviously this phone has built in GPS and i would love to utalize this feature on the road or when generally finding places.
Thing is however the GPS works the maps do not load. i have tried google maps, and they do not load without wifi, same as the google map editor, andnav and also nav4all. None of them show the maps unless they have been pre-loaded via wifi which isnt possible most of the time. I would love for some help with this, if i could save the WHOLE map for the UK that would be great! and be able to access it offline and use it with the GPS.
Any ideas?
Also sorry if its been covered before i did do a search and couldn't find anything
Thanks
Look for "BigPlanet" on Android Market.

I don't know of any other offline apps for the G1. It works mostly ok, but could have a couple of more features.
PS only costs $3
PPS http://bigplanetmaps.wordpress.com/
Although the engine for bigplanet seems to be available to be licensed for other apps now, so maybe someone will release a freebe.
well i tried downloading it, and i keep getting an error saying my credit card is invalid... i live in the UK and it comes up as $2.99 in the store... plus i know for a fact it is valid, i used it with paypal almost every day, also ATM's and chip and pin in store...
Try emailing the author to see if he has allowed it for all countries...
well i don't understand why it wouldn't be, i haven't used the program to unlock the market... i simply signed up for google checkout so all the apps that aren't allowed for my country shouldn't even show up, should they? well ill e-mail him anyway
AndNav2 can download maps in advance. Zoom the region you would like to download, Menu->Precache (or whatever it was called) and select zoom level. Beware that on the highest two zoom levels you would be downloading hundreds megabytes if you are viewing large area.
i cant find andnav2 in the market though..
So get it from their website!
waze.co.il is working on (a paid) version of FreeMap
They re-written FreeMap to native android .
it should be released soon to the US market. not free, I know but they will eventually release it as free since it is open source.
Their true advantage over most android GPS programs is they offer true offline navigation program (like iGo for WindowsMobile). you download the country file into your device.
Once you did that you can navigate freely. Route calculations are done inside the device and not on some remote server.
users can upload their history routes at home , to fix map errors so it is integrated to public map.
if you have a data plan and agree to expose your location it will ping your location every few minutes and (with more people doing that) they can provide you online traffic jams info.

I think AndNav2 does the same thing, you can download map packs ahead of time and it will upload your GPS traces if you allow it to to improve maps, and probably traffic etc.
You can find interesting things about andnav2 and Bigplanet on droidappz.com

[APP] Spelling Bee

Spelling Bee is a simple spell check that will see if the word you type is correct or NOT. This is supposed to be a simple way to go, "oh, is this how you spell...".
HOWEVER... This is being turned in to a Game as you read this. Details below:
Spelling the Bee the game allows you to slide to the "Lookup" section in the metro Pivot-based App that will continue to let you manually see if certain words are spelled properly or NOT.
The other feature is we're going to use the Dictionary.com API to grab word of the day, random words, and other items pertaining to words picked up and used to help test you, the end user on how to spell whatever is selected.
So, you have free time and ready to test against the others on the web who is the best speller? You can and not just one school at a time but against the WORLD. Also, if you rate in the top 10 at the end of the Month, another UI will display called "The Bee" where you will compete against those who are in the top 10 (or the next person in the list if they wish to not battle).
You will of course be able to only have 1 chance at properly spelling a word and will be able to request the word in a sentence as well as the definition of the word.
ARE YOU BLIND?
That's OK! As most of our App's are already voice-recognition enabled, you will still be able to play even if you can't see the screen (you will need help to open the App, can't help you on that) as you can use commands that are [but not limited to]: Play, Stop, Quit, Definition, Sentence, and Spell that allows you to verbally say the letters (e.g. A P P L E).
Download for 1st Edition (non-Game) pending...
* Note: We will modify/new post (if needed) to mention when the game is ready but it will most likely be a public BETA first.
Any suggestions, comments? Help us!
If you will add pronunciation, then I will use it! Would be wonderful.

We will do our best to try and implement that... May not be till the next version as the game is pretty close to being done. More than likely it will go in the BETA while the final is released.
Thanks for your suggestion!

Help me find a specific app...

Im a manager at a grocery store and Im looking for a way to simplify an inefficient inventory reporting fiasco we have. Basically each day we take inventory on three sections of an aisle and when we find discrepancies, we add that item to a second report. After we count the three sections each day we run the second report which takes us around to count a random pool of items but also takes us back to count any items that we added from the first report which means we end up counting items twice unless we keep a written count the first time around which is very time consuming and inefficient.
Basically I would like an app that as I do the first report I could add an item to a list and input a quantity to it so when I come back to it I could quickly grab the quantity from the app and be done. It would also be great if I could add a shelf location to the item so as I use the app it would be building a map of the store so next time around that item would already be in the system.
I found some inventory apps but they are all to in-depth for what i want, I need something simple and maybe a recommendation from someone who has used an app like this before?
Could you not just use a google drive spreadsheet?
You want to do this on a Nexus 7?
This sounds like a job for Excel, so you'll probably need an app (cloud or local) that has more than a basic range of Excel functions. You'll need to use filter, sort, Vlookup, etc
You mention "reports" but not how these reports are generated. Could they be exported to Excel?

PM'd you mate.
Try Kingsoft Office, I've found that my work spreadsheets(xls Office 2010) transfer all the data pretty well. The only thing it doesn't take is the Table graphics
"Basically I would like an app that as I do the first report I could add an item to a list and input a quantity to it so when I come back to it I could quickly grab the quantity from the app and be done."
It is possible that the "two reports" system has been designed for use in large stores so that a check by Employee A is re-checked by Employee B who doesn't know which items are short/over It gives a measure of assurance that the checks are being performed correctly and accurately and also the segregation of duties between A and B could prevent a single employee hiding their "theft" as in "I've had 6 cans of Coke this week so I'll add 6 to my physical count"

You don't need an Android app, you need a WMS (Warehouse management system).

Google Play Developer - Get live app download count

I have googled this but I couldn't find an answer.
I don't know how he did it but one of my coworkers - a PHP developer, once built a live counter for an app we released in Playstore. We just have to enter a URL and we can see the download count of the app increasing in big bold letters. Like in the movie Social Network. But as far as I know, Google updates app statistics every 24hrs only. So how did he do it?
PS: I cannot contact him now since this was some 2 years ago and he left.
It would be easier to integrate Google Analytics, so you can not only see the download numbers but also other metrics about your audience in realtime. (Country, Usage Statistics etc.).

Okay, I'll try that. I guessed it would be Google Analytics but I wasn't sure.

App Store Template wireframe

Hi there, since I'm not a skilled developer but wish to have a fast aproach to developing a simple store to distribute freely the apps developed by the company I work for, I would like to know if is there any kind of simple prebuilded App Store apk we can download, decompile make some basic personalization (as the apks download link and so on).
Sorry if the question is a bit vague, but I want somthing that is prebuilded, you know? Something to change some parameters and it's good to go.
Thanks!
