I am thinking about getting the nexus 6 this week. I have looked around this thread and have some questions.
1. Is the bootloader for the Verizon nexus 6 unlockable? (If so, please add a tutorial link)
2. Does Xposed installer work with this device?
Thanks

1. Yes, the same way as every other Nexus device, so just read the stickied guides at the top of this section.
2. Yes and no. It works on 5.0.x but not on 5.1.x, which is what your device came preloaded with. I'm not sure what parts of your firmware can/can't be downgraded if you really want to roll back to 5.0.x to use Xposed, so maybe someone else will chime in with those specifics.

I certainly would like to roll back to get Xposed. Also what roms do you recommend for this device? And could you link how to root/install custom recovery? Thanks!

If you downgrade from 5.1, do not revert your bootloader. Downgrading bootloader from 5.1 to 5.0.1, then eventually back to 5.1 could potentially lead to a brick.

My first suggestion would be to use the search function provided by XDA. As I'm sure you suspect, all of this information is out there waiting for you to find it.
Look through the Q&A forum. I'm sure you'll find answers there.

It's OK to downgrade system.img and boot.img. Just don't downgrade your bootloader. Unless you never want to go back to 5.1.

You'll find, that there's a guide written, for pretty much everything you want to do. The steps are simple and fast. Just read the relevant threads and be sure you know what you're doing. Once you unlock your bootloader, leave it unlocked. Flash recovery and root and have fun!

Since you're unlocking and getting a custom recovery anyway, all you have to do is flash a 5.0.2 rom and 5.0.2 kernel. Most devs have updated past that, but you can find links to their older builds usually from the same download folders.

I would suggest that a little bit of patience might be in order here. Xposed is very popular, and I can't imagine that it would be more than a couple of weeks before it's functional on 5.1.

Hello everyone,
I am posting here today on the topic of the Moto X OS Updater. I have the VZW Moto X Dev Ed running Rooted Kit Kat 4.4. I do not want the new update and it is asking me everyday if I would like to install. As I am not interested in doing so I would like to remove this. Is there a way to shut down the updater or maybe even remove the apk? If so what is it called or how do I do so?
Thanks in advance!

The main reason people want to get back to 4.2.2 is to root. with the DE you can root with any version because of the unlocked bootloader.

From what others are posting using the unofficial fxz, you can run the 4.4 system with the 4.4.2 bootloader and I would presume the 4.2.2 system, too although I don't see where anyone has specifically tried that. However, if you do run a lower version of the system than the bootloader and accidentally take the 4.4.2 OTA again, you will brick. So you would need to freeze the OTA app to avoid that.

It also has to do with qfuse counts.
muniz_ri posted a very informative message in one of the other related threads, but I've lost track of it, but one of the counters that is hardware based once flipped will prevent earlier BL from functioning with the hardware.
Thus, for the G900A once you've run the OC4 bootloader you can't go back to the earlier editions.

You can't downgrade if you're already on 5.0, and even if you could, you can't install anything beyond Touchwiz (Samsung) based ROMs because of a locked bootloader.
Let me know if you have any luck

Thank you for posting this question because I am in the exact same situation. I have an AT&T Galaxy S 5 Android 5.1.1. I was never interesting in rooting my phone until just recently and have been doing some light reading on Life Hacker to learn more and it brought me here. I just wanted to clarify your comment above. Are you saying that having the phone that I/we have we are completely out of luck if we wanted to root/modify our phones? Forever or just until something changes down the road?
Well I sold my at&t s5 and ordered a unlocked tmobile s5 to use on at&t with my sim card because you can root the tmobile version. I hope one day soon someone will figure out how to root it I believe it will be done soon just keep checking back on here.

I don't think that will work, the firmware listed there is 4.4.2 which is KitKat, you can not downgrade to KK if you are on lollipop or marshmallow, you could soft brick or worse. I would not attempt this unless you are actually on KK.

For future reference, don't give these unsure ideas to people and tell them to update their phones like this. At the moment, YOU CANNOT GET ROOTED LOLLIPOP 100% of the time unless you were/are on 4.4.2 KitKat with root (use Towelroot) and update through muniz_ri's update method. Trying to downgrade to KitKat will result in a bricked device as the thread previously mentioned.
The reason why root persists on 5.0 when you update it via this method is due to using the older bootloader which doesn't verify the system's integrity the same way the newer bootloaders do.

Ohhhh I didn't look at the baseband version.. Yeah it will brick your device. At this point you should take what I say with a grain of salt when I say you can't root lollipop and you should have better luck sticking to lollipop and waiting for someone to find a vulnerability in marshmallow.
Looks like that rooting is gonna have to wait a bit longer
Speaking of... Long shot here, but has anyone started looking for a vulnerability to exploit?

The OP requested instructions without preexisting root access. He has to downgrade to KitKat before rooting, and then he can do whatever.

I will fork it out, wish I did some research before buying an Att phone, even when it was listed unlocked. I have rooted every galaxy s 1,2,3,4 before this one, but this one Is a muther. I don't have time to painfully go through the research of bypassing this new baderass knox.

Doesn't apply to this situation.
From first link:
"(Caution! Do not flash if you have taken the OC4, OF2, or OF3 ota updates) and root with TowelRoot, before continuing with the above process."
TowelRoot doesn't work here.
Second link:
"Make sure your AT&T Galaxy S5 is 100% stock Android 4.4.4 KitKat firmware."
So no.
