y car can read me messages if the SMS goes to my Messages apps, but it does not recognize messages that go to my hangouts app. As I mostly use GVoice for ALL my messaging and calls how can I make my care see the messages and read them to me again?

*sorry for the rambling, trying to provide as much information as possible*
When I configure my Google Voice (GV) app, the SMS from Handcent all come thru my Google Voice number. By doing this, I'm able to ensure that multi-part messages are received by the recipient in proper order.
My girlfriend has the myTouch 3G. When she uses her Handcent with GV not configured her multi-part messages show up in my Handcent out of order. When she downloads and configures GV, any messages she sends from GV show her GV number and any she sends through Handcent show her phone's number. The text's she sends thru GV show up in order, which is nice, but she really enjoy's using Handcent.
Does anyone know how to configure her Handcent so it sends SMS thru her GV number?
PS - I find it odd that the multi-part messages I receive in MY Handcent aren't combined. I have that checked in the Handcent settings, but it's not performing that operation.
PSS - If there's another messaging app that achieves sending and receiving SMS messages in the proper order AND combines them without the need of GV, my girlfriend would probably be willing to switch. I just hope the issue isn't t-mobile's services screwing up the order of the SMS messages.

I am using Slim ICS, and like the feature to send an SMS to an incoming caller.
I use google voice, and have set it as the default SMS app, but when responding to a call with the canned SMS messages it always uses the phones messaging app instead of google voice (shows the wrong phone number to caller).
Is there some file I might edit to change this?
I really like the Google Hangouts as an SMS client, I also like the stock SMS notifications on my Gear. My problem is i wish to continue to utilize the Hangouts app for SMS while only receiving notifications from the stock app on my Gear. I know you can just enable Hangouts notifications via Gear Manager but when you receive multiple messages it collates them and loses content, in addition to not having the quick response capability. I've also tried the Disa.im messaging app. While this is cool I am not a huge fan and MMS is spotty on my Note 3. Thanks!
you can't do it. The gear relies on notifications from the phone.
1. if you turn off hangouts notifications for SMS, then you can get SMS client notifications, but you won't get hangouts for SMS on the phone
2. if you turn off SMS client notifications on the phone, then the Gear will never know to display the notification.
3. You could have hangouts AND the SMS client enabled on the phone, and only the SMS Client notifications enabled on the Gear, but then you'll have duplicate notifications on the phone, and you won't receive any non SMS hangouts notifications.

that blows... thanks for the response though.
I set my phone to vibrate and it does vibrate for calls, but not for text messages (using Google Messenger text app). Any ideas?
Seems like it may be a problem with Google apps. Messenger and Hangouts wouldn't vibrate, but stock Messaging and Textra apps vibrate.
I'm thinking about "graduating" to Google Hangouts after using Google Messenger for quite some time. Does Hangouts work like Apple's text messenger app where it sends the message via wifi or cellular signal and the app is interachangeable via desktop ?
I was playing with it earlier and it seems like unless the other person has hangouts as well with the sync'd e-mail address, it's basically just Google messenger ?
If the contact on the other end has their phone number tied to their hangouts app then it'll default to a hangouts internet message but regardless you'll have a little box in the bottom left to switch between hangouts and sms message sending. The app on the Chrome will only send Hangouts message, not SMS.

I saw the toggle for switching between SMS and hangouts. How can hangouts make phone calls, but not pick up SMS ?
How does the phone dialer work for Hangouts ? You just dial out in on the desktop and use headphones and a mic ?

Hangouts can send calls to outside numbers but not receive them, I'd assume not sending SMS on PC is from the idea that you wouldn't receive the response. Unlike Mac and iOS the app on PC for hangouts doesn't interact with your phone at all.
The dialer on hangouts sends calls to outside numbers using the internet, the person on the other end will see the call coming from a hidden number. If you call someone that has hangouts then you'll send a hangouts call with the option to add video to the call. On PC it'll use whatever your default (communications) mic and speakers.
