I cracked my screen on my Moto X and need to use one of my Motorcare replacements. However, I am interested in trying one of the leather backs (mine is currently bamboo). Which of the two replacement processes would allow me to receive a new code to design another phone? Regular (sent the phone in first) or advanced? Is this a possibility or will all my replacements be exactly the same, engravings and all?

Is that how it works? I was under the impression that you do not get a brand new device. I thought they give you a refurb but with the exact same customization. It will have a new back with engraving on it if it was there before, probably a new piece of glass over the screen and the parts are tested to make sure they work.
Are people getting new devices for MotoCare replacements?
Your replacement will be exactly the same as your original. There is no option to change any part (back, memory, etc) regardless of the kind of replacement process you do. After the 14 day "buyers remorse" period, you are stuck with your choices.

And I am pretty sure it will be a refurb. If they didn't do this, then they would have people purposefully breaking their devices just to get a new design.

So it just happened this past Friday, a white bar appeared on the right side of my phone's screen and shortly after my phone ran outta batteries. When I plugged it in to charge the screen just slowly showing a blossoming of pixel colors all over the screen. If i leave it alone it will boot into the OS fine and I can hear all my notifications and everything seems to work fine but the screen just turns black with a thin blue bar of light on the top. Is there anyway to fix this aside from replacing my screen? and is it a digitizer problem?
now the screen is just completely black when i turn it on, but it is still responsive. I can still unlock and open apps and swipe the screen, etc. Does anyone know what is wrong and what needs to be replaced? Please help!

your LCD has gone bad. this is a fairly easy repair, but there are a few places you need to be VERY careful or you can break things (like your power button)
the Nexus One has TWO different models of LCD and you HAVE to use the one that was originally in your phone.
One is made by Samsung and is fairly common/easy to find. its gonna run you about $30-50
There is also an LCD made by Sony which is a little more difficult to find (and mostly used on the Desire) but it costs anywhere up to $100+ so lets hope thats not yours :]
if you arent comfortable doing the repair there is a company called Cell Phone Repair that has stores in almost every state and they even take mail orders if you are not located near one.

He told you everything in detail already, but if you are a newbie and have never done things like this, i suggest you find some other people to get your phone repaired, it cost much less to pay a screen repair fee than get a new one

There are a bunch of videos on youtube on how to replace a Nexus One LCD screen...
So, due to some weird display issues (that could not be worked out even after flashing factor images), I realized I needed to RMA my device for the second time.
This new device came in, and just my luck, it has the terrible vibrate motor. The loud, obnoxious, frame-rattling slow motor. I haven't even removed the default Nexus screen protector and this has happened.
I won't deal with it, so I'm going to email them and ask them what to do. I haven't even shipped back my old phone yet because I refuse to be phone-less. Has anyone in here had to return their "new" replacement device before they even sent back in the old one? How does the process work? Would they ask me to still send back the old one and then do an RMA on the "new" device?
Opinions and snobbery concerning how I should just "deal with it" or "let it go" are not welcome. I paid good money for this device, and the current one I own (display problems notwithstanding) is in perfect shape as far as mechanics and build quality go. If you're going to just come in and tell me how I'm being ridiculous, please refrain from doing so.

I have seen non-RMA, brand new phones arriving like if they were used or mishandled. I have bought just 5 for family and 2 of them came with scratches and finger prints on top of stock screen cover. but LCD was perfect.
You should return the oldest one and open another process for the just received one. You can use it if you want while the other arrives, but first contact Google and ask them to be 100% sure. Point out what the faults are. They will send another and you return the new faulty one.

So I guess I can't just interrupt the current RMA process and ship them the new one back?

If you do it like that (if possible), You will be left with a bad Display phone and still owe them that phone anyways (you printed that form with IMEI that they are waiting for or will charge $$$) because they will return another.
So, my flex fell ill, and it was time to get a replacement through at&t's warranty department. They ended up sending a refurbished phone, but considering its the flex, I can assume what was wrong with the refurb device in the first place. The new model has crippling retention, my last model had the slightest bit from the navbar. Just a white bit being on the screen can cause minimum 5 seconds of retention. I don't want them to send me another phone that was apparently "fixed". What should I do, because Im sure most of them were returned for bad screens, meaning that if I call again, before my old phone even makes it back to them, then I'll have to wait yet another 2 weeks for another bad screen.

You could go through lg or even through Insurance, but they will all do the same thing ATT does, Replace it with a certified like new device.
No one will give you a brand new device.
Know of any way to find out the previous issues a refurb device has had?

Thanks anyways! I found a warranty place near me where I can try the phones first!
Hello,
Recently the acceletomoter (I think) quit working on my N6. The screen quit rotating all together. Luckily I purchased a squaretrade when new, so I am covered no matter what. Google approved an RMA for this, but the email suggested that i would receive a refurbished device. I'm sure there's nothing wrong with a refurbished device and will work better than my current one. But the though that something broke once sends chills up my spine. Am I better off using up my square trade warranty and purchasing a brand new one, or going with googles refurbished model and saving my square trade for another time. I'm very careful with my phones, they get screen protectors and go in cases on day one. I have never dropped a phone in the past 6 years (knock on wood)
I've never gone through this process before, it's intimidating, what should/can I do?

Ultimately, it's your call. IMHO, you paid for a new, working device. So...
Hey,
Just wondering if anyone has come across any Nexus 6 deals lately? The 32GB model was $250 on Amazon a few months back, so something like that would be great!
Just shattered my screen, so I am wondering if it's just more economical to buy a new device...
Cheers,
Su

Your device with a shattered screen is a nexus 6.... right? If it still works, I would say to just keep it in it's shattered state. If not, I would get it fixed or if you can wait for this possibly HTC made nexus.
Yeah it's a Nexus 6... the touchscreen works, but there is a massive chunk of glass missing over the sensors in the top right. The screen turns off and doesn't turn back on when on a call, and it's also sort of dangerous.
I had my phone set up perfectly, and I don't really want to upgrade... so ideally, I would just like to do a Nandroid back of the broken phone and restore into onto a new device (my bootloader is luckily unlocked).
Cheers,
Su

If you're looking at replacing the entire device, why not just try replacing the screen first? Apparently your digitizer is still fine... I think you can get the glass replacement for ~$20 online. It may be a bit more difficult to just replace the glass, but it's doable.
Best case, you're out $20 and some time... Worst case, the new phone cost you an extra $20 and some time.
I just need a fully functional phone again, asap, but thanks for the suggestion. (Also, as mentioned the proximity sensor appears to be broken, and that's presumably not easily fixable).
Cheers,
Su
Check Swappa. You should be able to find something there.
On eBay the nexus 6 are very reasonable
Swappa. I have bought 2 from swappa. 200$
Sent from my Nexus 6 using XDA-Developers mobile app
Motorola will fix it for $175.
