I have purchased Moto X2 - US cellular and the phone has lollipop installed.
I want to know whether its possible to root it on lollipop as I got contradicting search results.
Can someone please guide me the actual fact?
TIA.
Is your bootloader unlocked?
If the bootloader was already unlocked, you're good to go. If it was updated to Lollipop with a locked bootloader, you're out of luck (as far as I have found). The problem is that in Lollipop there is an option in Developer Options to enable bootloader unlock that must be checked before you can unlock in fastboot. This option is not available on the XT1093 Dev Options. So if it was unlocked already on KK, you're golden, but otherwise there is no way I know of to unlock the bootloader.
Also, don't try to downgrade to the stock KK image, you'll have a time getting it unbricked.
Maybe someone knows some ADB method of enabling this Developer Option and thus allowing you to fastboot oem unlock the device. But until this information surfaces, you can't do it.
My XT1093 has that option. Does it mean that I could try to unlock the bootloader?

You can definitely unlock the bootloader. 5.0.2 did not include that option. 5.1 fixed it. Enable OEM unlocking then you can unlock the bootloader just the same as any other variant.
team uscellular dot com has a lot of info for XT1093, much of it written by me. XDA won't give us our own device sections, so info is hard to come by for us here. But we have an entire website for USCC devices.
It didn't work. I guess i have to somehow downgrade to 4.4.4 and unlock.

Downgrading can brick your XT1093...
Simply flipping the switch in Dev Options doesn't unlock the bootloader, silly. You have to get the unlock code from the Motorola website, voiding your warranty, etc. It's the same as any other Moto X 2014. There are dozens of threads about it.
The switch in Developer Options is an EXTRA step now, not the only one.
Forgot to mention that I did try to unlock it via Motorola page and fastboot. My phone is not eligible to be unlocked.
Sent from my XT1093 using Tapatalk
Is it US Cellular XT1093?
Also, if it's not eligible, I'm not sure you can unlock the bootloader. Haven't heard of or seen a crack around here, not saying it's impossible but it might be.
Did Moto website say it's not eligible?

Sorry, but the 1093 cannot be bootloader unlocked. That option is there in developer options, but it is useless without a code from motorola. The problem is USC won't let motorola give out codes, so motorola has no choice in it.

I have a US Cellular XT1093 bootloader unlocked, as do dozens of others. Been unlocked since the day I got it, back in October. The 5.0.2 update made this difficult for new users since the Dev Options didn't have the "Enable OEM Unlocking" option, but now with 5.1 users are able to do it again. And people have done it since the 5.1 update hit.
It can be unlocked on US Cellular. Both the OG X and the 2014 X. Unlike the Pure Edition, this does void our warranties, but that's not a big deal. Not sure where you got your info, but it is incorrect.
Maybe I got a lemon, I followed the instructions and the result was negative. Maybe I'll buy a broken Verizon or a AT&T and swap the motherboard.

Did you remove the spaces from the unlock code? Because if the Motorola webpage gave you an unlock code, the device can be unlocked. Bootloader unlock rejections happen on Moto's end, so if you have a code for your device and it won't unlock in fastboot then it's something on your end.

Also: Verizon and ATT bootloaders cannot be unlocked.

I want to change my nexus 4 for a moto X but I hate to lose the "nexus liberty", in other words I don't want go back to a smartphone that I can't get root. I read in XDA forums the jcase root for motoX 4.4 version (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2538896) but in the first step he said (I quote):
"You need to get the camera update from http://sbf.droid-developers.org/ghost/list.php and flashing back to it. You must be 100% stock before continuing."
I'm from colombia and i saw that Skrilax_CZ have the ClaroColombia image, but i'm not have that carrier and if I get the motoX will be from other carrier named TIGO Colombia, so my question is that the ClaroColombia image works with the TigoColombia phone. If not, someone can help me to find the TigoColombia image?
Yours will probably be boot loader unlockable so you can just flash root
If you are bootloader locked then it will not let you flash anything other than what you phone is supposed to have to feel free to give that a shot. You can probably bootloader unlock however and save yourself the trouble of using the exploit to gain root. Also once you are bootloader unlocked if that devices is model xt1053 you can flash just about every image out right now for tmobile or other xt1053 carriers.

OK, finally I have all the information.
The motoX of Tigo Colombia with the camera update patch is:

Baseband version: MSM8960PRO_BP_2323.020.90.00R

So as i see it (correct me if i'm wrong please) I have three options for root:
1- Don't do it and life with that
2- Do it via Custom recovery and superSU-chainfire
3- Via SlapMyMoto xploit with the images of Skrilax_CZ (http://sbf.droid-developers.org/ghost/list.php)
The option #2 implies the use of TWRP or another recovery. I actually have a nexus 4 with a custom recovery and when I upgrade android via OTA the phone goes to a bootloop, with the nexus it's easy to solve because google publish the factory images. With the motoX it's another question...........
The option #3 implies use the factory image of Skrilax_CZ (http://sbf.droid-developers.org/ghost/list.php) but as i said when I open the [Q] i don't know what factory image i can use. Hopefully with the info above someone can tell me what image i can use or if i can't use any at all.

There's no real reason I can possibly think of to relock a bootloader on a Moto X. No point even for warranty, as it will read "relocked", never "locked" again like it was out of the box.
So I'm just curious why you'd ever want to lock the bootloader? ?

Reflash stock firmware with RSDLite. Yes, it will completely wipe your device.... So back anything you want up to a pc or cloud first.
Then you will be completely stock. If it's the same, it's likely hardware or Sim or carrier/account issue.
Make sure it's the firmware for your exact device model, and don't downgrade, or you will likely brick.
Good luck!
---------- Post added at 11:21 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:20 PM ----------
I'm guessing it's hardware, Sim or carrier issue.......
Or, You've flashed firmware for another carrier, not your own... So the radio won't work on your carriers network.
Just a guess.

Anyways, I'm wondering why my version number does not match, and also wondering if, by downloading the last update and installing it myself, I have lost the ability to recieve OTA's Thanks anyone who might have advice.

Ah now I understand, you had a typo when you first posted your version number. Now that is not what you need to do. My suggestion is to unlock your bootloader, but DO NOT downgrade. Just download the 5.1 image from here: http://www.filefactory.com/file/17go3dvt60b/VICTARA_TMO_XT1095_5.1_LPE23.32-21.3_cid9_CFC.xml.zip then flash it to upgrade your system to the correct version.
Downgrading then taking OTAs can cause bricks, so I do not recommend that you downgrade.
From your experience, can I flash the newer lollipop version w/o unlocking bootloader?

I know you can flash the same version... and that downgrade does not work.
But I have no clue if upgrade works while the bootloader is locked. It won't hurt to try, if it does not let you there is no damage done. Let me know if it lets you with a locked bootloader for future reference.

It does suck.. that you have to pay for updates because sprint wants to be ignorant....
I understand people selling phones that are subsidized and not paid for...Ok black list them properly world wide not just from there network.. But block methods to unlock the device when if you are not a sprint customer they will not unlock it for you either. Thus making the device unusable either way.....
Kinda of a shady move in there part as sprint Lgs in the past few years have been really easy to unlock free rooted methods.
Then people are now going to such extreme I will try anything lengths to just get it unlocked They are bricking the device. Thus in third leaving the device completely unusable.
Check if your LG is not hard locked and you still have a few unlock attempts left.
It is sprint model. What you talking about? I unlocked it before with software method.

Whatever....it never happened
Just for future reference SIM lock on LG SD845 is build now with strict hardware dependencies based on Chip ID and signature. The only way of removing SIM lock so far, apart from using official operator SIM unlock methods is to re-solder chip from already unlocked SD845 device and refurbish the phone - so all those well known tricks of erasing some files cross flashing different roms etc. is not working any more. Just save your time and efforts...
Aw man that's awesome! So did it work? Did u succeed or not? Please tell us more.
I'm interested in crossflashing LG V40. I did that on LG V30+ twice. Here is the XDA topic: https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-v30/how-to/using-lgup-crossflashing-t3780969
My YouTube Tutorial:
I had LG V30+ (us998) on Sprint and all the bloatwares. I used patched LGUP & DLL file and flash ls998 witch is unlocked V30 kdz. Ot worked prefect. Then i tried to flash some another kdz file, didn't succeed, brick the phone. But then i use CHIP erase and tried to flash ls998 (unlocked) on it. And it worked but that delete serial number and other details. Bc i did chip erase. But phone worked fine at the end?
I'm assuming he either has access to the latest LGUP (1.16) that supports the V40 along with the .msi/DLLs needed, or has access to LG Flash Tool with the hard to find V40 DLL for the flash tool.
Either way, instructions aren't going to get posted from what I can see.
That's awesome though, have fun with that!

A man from Ukraine is already doing unlock sim for Sprint V40. For this, you do not need to do a root or unlock bootloader.

Where are you obtaining these "strict hardware dependencies" claims for the SD845 chips? From what I've seen, the G7 and V35 phones that are crossflashed in LGUP end up being SIM unlocked just like on the old V30 phones. Those are also SD845 so the "Chip ID" lock would not make sense. I believe the old modem data is STILL stored on the modemst1 and modemst2 partitions on the V40 with the Octoplus flash method because the only way they are being crossflashed at the moment is through Octoplus box, and the G7 and V35 are being crossflashed with just LGUP. It seems LGUP's REFURBISH mode clears this old modem data when crossflashing, as I have had similar SIM lock or no signal issues on the old V30 that were only fixed after using REFURBISH or flashing appropriate modemst1/2 partitions.
