I have done the unfortunate thing and bricked my phone, now I did see a post in here on this subject but I am not able to open this program/app on either Ubuntu or Windows 7 PC's.
Now my questions...
Is this the only way to unbrick my phone?
Using Linux or Windows, which one works better?
I am using the Rogers one i896, the screen just stays at i896. I will explain what I was trying to do, I had installed Clockworkmod on my rooted phone on the intentions to install another ROM on my phone. I boycotted this idea as I saw another way that had me download the zip, enable debugging, turnoff and place into recovery mode...that is where I got stuck. I obviously made a mistake somewhere, does anyone have any ideas how to unbrick my phone. Not too make it sound worse but I have to use my wife's old Blackberry...a pink flip!
Linux works better. After dl, right click, permissions, check the little box that says make it executable. Click ok. Now right click on it, open with java (either open jdk, or sun java ). The app should open.
Thanks very much, I was now able to install on Linux but after all this the unbrick did not work. It tells me to plug my phone in, the phone is in the USB port it has always been in. I turned the phone in the off position and all it does is show a load symbol similar to the one before the battery charge comes on, when it goes on it just stops at the i896 screen and does nothing else. Any other ideas on how to unbrick this phone? or am I done and got to get a new one? I'd rather keep this one
Ok not to say nothing is working, but I have a yellow triangle with Android digging, says downloading below and at the bottom do not turn off target!!! What does this mean?

Plug it into the computer and hit the button.
I tried that but my pc doesnt pickup my Samsung anymore, it is like it doesnt exist when I plug in. I am gonna reboot the PC and retry.
Are you using a Linux machine?
yes I am I have Ubuntu 11.10 installed, I never had this trouble before with it recognizing the phone.
If you can get download mode, flash back to stock.
It goes into download mode but not sure how to flash to stock
There is a sticky in the development section for stock ROM.

Thanks guys, I have read the instructions and all is fine except that I am using Rogers version i896, if it doesn't make any difference then I will load the AT&T if there would be issues. Second issue I am running into is while my phone goes into download mode, my PC's continue to not see my phone, I have removed everything including the SD card. Any ideas how to get the phone to be recognized as I think this would solve a lot
My friend recently had similar problems and it turned out to be a bad cable. Don't overlook the obvious.

Hello,
I know there are a ton of "stuck in fastboot" threads but I've spent hours going through them and none of them seem to be what's happening to me. Or maybe all of them combined would... anyway, I would greatly appreciate some help as I'm at my witt's end. I've even somehow managed to screw up a dual boot of Ubuntu on my windows machine, but that's something I'll fix for myself later
Anyway, here's all the info I can think of and what I have done so far.
A month or two I rooted my phone. I never flashed a custom rom or anything. I altered a couple settings but that's it. My phone has worked perfectly this entire time.
Yesterday there was an OTA. I didn't even intend to accept it, I just got the notification and then my phone shut off and went to fastboot. That's pretty much where I've been ever since.
Rebooting gets me to fastboot. Attempting recovery mode gets me to the hard reset screen but not recovery. Trying to hard reset just goes back to fastboot. Download mode does not come up.
Windows sees my phone but disables it because of an error. Attempting to reinstall drivers does nothing. Ubuntu doesn't acknowledge that the phone is there under the regular terminal. If I run the fastboot tool it wont list it but it will respond to a couple commands. I can reboot... into fastboot. Anything else gets the "waiting for device" notification. My device just says "processing commands" but nothing happens.
So that's where I'm at right now. That's the condensed version of the last 18 hours but I think it contains most of the relavent information. I would greatly appreciate any assistance. I'm lucky to have this phone and I would be very upset if I lost it.
Thank you.

Ah! I never went back to that thread after installing linux. I will try that now and report back, thanks!
My pc wouldn't recognize my phone in fastboot until I installed the drivers from pdanet. It would get stuck at wating for device. Ihttp://www.androidheat.com/adb-fastboot-install-drivers-setup/
Well currently everything works until I get to the point that I type "adb devices"
I get "List of devices" and it's blank. My phone is now constantly repeating "reset, portcharge" over and over whenever it's plugged in...

Did you try and install the drivers from the link i posted? I would download pdanet for the drivers if i were you. You won't be able to fastboot the boot.img if your pc won't recognize your phone.

No problem. I've got my phone shut off to save battery because I'm under the impression that it won't charge in fastboot and I didn't figure repeating that would be good for it. I'm still trying to restore Windows. I'm not used to being limited to a single computer but without my phone and my desktop currently in another state I'm a bit frustrated.
Anyway, I appreciate the help and will keep trying. I'll update if anything happens.

Yes. Everything in the tutorial worked perfectly... until I plugged in my phone, hahaha. I admit now that I'm doing it all in Ubuntu it's a little confusing as this is pretty new to me, but I'm pretty sure I set it up right.

That's what I'm working on now, I screwed up the dual boot and can't get back into windows. Okay. I'm just going to grab my brother's laptop and use it so I can get this done. I can fix my computer later.
I'm going to start at the beginning of the tutorial since it'll be on a different computer. We'll see how it goes.
Edit: Okay, back to windows and this is what I have going on. I've installed the drivers for my phone, set up the sdk and gone into cmd but even with the drivers Windows is telling me that it has disabled my phone because it is malfunctioning (error code 43). Therefore no matter what I do it will not acknowledge the phone or communicate with it. If I try doing anything it just hangs on "waiting for device".
FIXED!
WOOHOO!!
It's working again! I'm not sure exactly how I did it but I rebooted my computer and suddenly the phone said "processing commands" so even though it still wasn't listed as a device I ran boot.img just to see what happened and it's back up and running just like nothing ever happened.
Thank you so much!

Can u get into dl mode? If yes, u go back to stock for ls995 tot method, n then root it after that accept update KK and re root it. Hope that help.
Actually my friend bricked his phone, he flashed the 5.1 bootloader and radio.then somehow he flasheed back to 5.0.1 stock. then he flashed Euphoria again. The phone rebooted fine and he went to sleep. Then woke up and found out his phone was dead. And all buttons combo didn't work at all. It's just a piece of dead body. When plugging into the PC, it shows qhsusb_bulk. There were devices that had same problems but they managed to unbrick it, But those methods don't apply to Shamu. Odd thing is I did the same thing so far my Nexus 6 is fine .I've started worrying, tho. We bought it from amazon.fr and I'm sure i dont want to send it back all the way from China to France.
Also , i read some dudes encountered the same problem after flashing Cm12 with 5.1 BL. I really need your help.
I tried Nexus Root Toolkit to flash the factory image, it didnt work. It's still using the fastboot, and ofc i don't get to go there.
I've installed the Qualcomm_QHSUSB_driver, but it doesn't seem to fix anything.
no one?
Mine has done the same thing. Went to flash 5.1 nexus image from the google dev site. The flash did boot and radio and failed size on system ( even re-downloaded). I plug my N6 into my linux machine and this what I get on lsusb "Qualcomm, Inc. Gobi Wireless Modem (QDL mode)". I am also in need of help.

I'm not sure it has anything to do with the update. My friend didn't flash the 5.1 google factory image . He flashed the 5.1 BL on a 5.0.2 aosp based rom then went back to stock 5.0.1 then flashed the same 5.0.2 aosp rom. Now it ends up dead.
This happened on Samsung devices too and it was a emmc issue, so the internal drive among others was no longer readable and writable and hardware like buttons was not working either. Unless someone comes with the golden tip you`ll have to turn it in for repair. Good luck guys

Something should be able to be done using QPST (i.e., to force flash the bootloader), but that is above my level of knowledge.

I'm going through similar with a dead Nexus 7. I think the eMMC died in it though, as it just went out without any tinkering. No sign of life on the device, but is picked up as a Qualcomm modem port and detected by QPST in download mode. I don't have/can't find the hex files required by QPST to flash it though.
I theorize that if a working device can be put in QPST "diag" mode, then QPST will allow exporting the storage contents in a flashable hex file, and that file could be used to restore the boot partitions on the dead device. I haven't been able to find information about this "diag"nostic mode, however.
Same issue guys, Upgraded to 5.1 OTA rooted and flashed cm12 tried to reboot. Nothing. Stuck in "Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008" QPST will recognize it in Download mode. If we can get these Hex files I will give it a shot. Thanks!

Was having wifi issues, found a tutorial on flashing firmware via usb, BUT downloaded an old firmware that made the whole device go to hell.
Has anyone managed to recover their device, or am I the only soul who was dumb enough to put myself in this situation.
I cannot get into fastboot, recovery, etc. booting leads to a blank screen.

You will have to flash the stockrom files via Odin i am afraid

Do you have any sort of instructions.
I'm sorta familiar with Odin, but I thought that fastboot was a requirement?

I was able to make some progress. Whenever i tried to fastboot a device would popup for a second on the computer and then disappear. At first I thought it was fastboot interface but looking closely at the device "OMAP4430" with vid 0451 and pid D00F, turns out it is an interface used to flash new first stage and main bootloaders on various devices such as galaxy nexus and galaxy tab 2 along with pandaboard and certain lg phones. There are utilities such as OMAP flash (by Texas instruments) and OMAP4BOOT (unofficial open source) that could talk to the device using this protocol. People have made scripts around these utilities to unbrick other devices mentioned above. I have played with these tools and i am able to push first loader called MLO or " xloader" by TI, fortunately google provides xloader with XE23 but i am not been able to push the main bootloader perhaps someone with more experience can help write configuration scripts for these tools that would work on glass so that i can get to fastboot and restore my device.
Hello,
this is my first thread/post on this forum, if I did anything wrong please don't be super harsh and inform me to what to do better, thanks.
So why am I asking for help anyways you may ask, well I had my old Xperia Z1 laying around here for quite a while now and wondered if I could do anything productive with it.
So I came up with the idea to install a CFW like Lineage OS or something else.
This is not my first rooted and cfw phone but the first one what gives me nightmares and a headache.
So after reading all of the nice guides how to root it and how to unlock it, nothing of them is working for me, most of the threads have missing files which I cannot find on google or other just simply won't work for me.
First of all, I have rooted my phone via KingRoot in the meantime since the other methods where not working either.
I have turned on usb-debugging and also allowed installation from unknown sources.
And there we start with the first problem, downloaded the google SDK and installed all adb things I needed, did not work, then I tried it from the official sony website, downloaded the usb-driver folder and tried to install it manually, won't work either, because the device manager always gave me error code 10 "device cannot be started", I tried different sources and even die google studio thing and everything ended up with the same result.
Same error code even when I tried to activate fastboot on my phone by pressing down the volume up button, pluging the usb cable in, and yet again the same error message for this device too.
I am using windows 10 and never had such problems before with sony devices.
I hope someone of you can help me out to find a solution, if you need any further information, just let me know.
Did you solve this?
I have the same problem

This may sound stupid or ridiculous, but yes I managed to work it out and was able to install the CWF on my phone which is working perfectly fine.
Since nobody was willing to help me I just skipped the part where I wanted to post my solution but yeah, this may help you too.
So what did I do? Simply I stopped using Windows 10 for this project, I just used one of my older PC's which still had Windows 7 Ultimate on it.
I just rooted the phone via KingRoot, since it was the only solution what kinda worked out for me, then I was able to install all needed SDK, fastboot and ADB files on my PC and was able to use the ones from the Sony site itself this time and after plugin in the phone to the PC, it installed everything else what was needed for the device manager.
After that was done with no error I was finally able to unlock the phone via the command which you can find also on the Sony website.
If you find this helpful or need any extra information just let me know, maybe I can help you then. Oh and if you found out a solution for you what worked, would be nice to hear that too.
