When the Samsung Galaxy S6 came out I really liked this feature of quickly launching the Camera app by just double tapping on the physical Home button. Some people are lucky and still using KitKat ROMs in which Xposed is available and this can be done, but its not good implemented on Lollipop 5.0.1 just yet( if I'm not mistaken) Well for those people looking for something similar(like myself) this is a pretty good and easy way to make it happen, the Camera wont launch as fast as the GS6 but something still better than nothing, I will leave some Step by Step procedure with some pictures for references,so lets get started,
NO ROOT REQUIRED
Download Home2 Shortcut from Google Play for free. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.eikatou0.appspot.home2shortcut
1-Open up Home2 Shortcut and scroll down 'till you reach your first stop - "Step1". Here, you'll assign the Home key to the Camera app. So tap "Choose Application", choose "Camera" and hit "Ok".
2-Next, you'll adjust the duration, or how quickly you must tap the home button to complete the action. So scroll down to "Step 2", tap the "Normal" drop-down menu, and choose "Normal"
3-Scroll down to "Step 3", where you'll complete an important setting. Tap "Choose Home Application" and select the launcher you're currently using.
4-Scroll down to the final "Step 4" and tap Close. Android will prompt you to select an app to complete the action. In this screen, select "Home2 Shortcut", and then choose "Always".
5-Go ahead and try launching the Camera by double tapping the Home button. It should work.
THIS METHOD DOES NOT WORK WITH THE SCREEN OFF

Yeah it works very well...i posted cuz i see people interested in the same thing but no threads about it...cheers:fingers-crossed:
Thanks! I've installed it and it works very well. I'm not sure if I'm going to keep it though because I often go for a photo walk around the city where I'll take the phone out of my pocket, snap a photo and put it back in my pocket. This app doesn't really speed up the process of opening the camera.

I stated on OP, THIS METHOD DOES NOT WORK WITH SCREEN OFF, but let see youre using any app or browsing and you need to snap a photo just double tap the home button, instead of going back home, opening the app drawer, and looking for the camera app, of course this isn't perfect, but it works really well, thanks for the comment, if helped please press the Thanks Button, appreciate, god bless, cheers:fingers-crossed::highfive:

also If you have custom launcher like Nova it is possible to do the same thing by assigning it to launch camera upon hitting home button , so if you're browsing or playing game double tapping home button opens the camera.

Well it isn't double tap exactly, I meant that if you are using any app, like Whatsapp for example, and you want to open camera you have to press twice to open it, once for homescreen and other to open the camera.
If it doesn't work with screen off, then if you have nova launcher prime, it's better to add the camera app to the home button in button and gestures submenu

Exactly, there's no way to implement double tap everywhere, only a single tap on the homescreen, or a single tap everywhere but activating that would leave us without a home button

Just found out a little tip which many of you might already know. If you are missing the menu button, especially for outdated apps like the xda app, you can still access it. The note 4 replaced the menu button with recent apps button, but if you long press the recent apps button you will get to the menu function.
That is all. Have a good day.

Thanks for that. I was using a friends S5 last night and that was driving me mad. My note 4 is at home waiting for me to open the package
If they completely removed it, then yes but holding task switcher for a couple of more seconds then it doesn't bother me. What bothers me is that I have to hold the back button every time to access Multi window bar as app switcher only has opened apps.

Its not about missing it just because you prefer to press the physical button. There are many apps which don't have the soft menu button. For example, go to Google Now and try to change the settings, but don't long press. Good luck with that.

There is. There is no way Google didn't implement soft menu button when they themselves are pushing on screen nav bar and soft menu buttons. Open Google now and it's bottom right corner. Might need to scroll all the way down. That might be the only annoying thing about it but it's there and very easy to access.

Hi, since double tap to wake works like a charm but its frustrating me about turning screen off, we still need to use that power on button which has bad feeling in comparison of older xperia
Nova launcher has a double tap system for screen off
Anyone has an app/mod that allows a double tap/simple tap to put screen off?
Thanks

You don't need icons for the 2 I mentioned. They work as shortcuts with Nova gestures, 1tap, 2tap or whatever you prefer. Just give them a try.

Thanks, tested and i approve this method :good:
Xperia Xposed (KK) >> Xperia Home >> Desktop >> Double Tap Gesture >> Lock Screen
It does work with stock home launcher only!
Not too sure if it works on the Z3, but on my HTC i have installed a app called all in one gestures, which allows me to double tap the top notification bar, and the screen knocks itself off.
I am sure you can customize it the way you want it, hopefully it will work on the Z3, as i have just bought one myself.
Oh thanks great found, gonna try it :good:
Gravity Box has this option. I have it on long press of recent apps. Makes it available from everywhere. You could also use Greenify's screen off through Gravity Box and assign it to a long press or create an extra navigation item and have it there; tap, double tap, long press.
No root method
I am using a clear home screen widget from this app. Just add to homescreen and resize.
Works like a charm.
Ummm ok new user , so just search google play for DTSO.
I use Nova Launcher Prime and "Screen off and lock"
Use the app Soft Lockscreen from the play store. Just keep the app icon anywhere on the homescreen

is there anyway to make greenify shortcut to work on lockscreen of lollipop, either by replacing camera icon or phone icon, ?
just use gravity screen. it saves me the use of any buttons and no xposed is required.

Can't help you with remapping the button, but I don't use it myself. I just use Nova Launcher and set up gestures so double tap on the screen launches the camera. This only works while unlocked.
I know some people want to be able to launch the camera without unlocking the phone, I'm one of them, but oh well. It looks like the options are quite limited besides turning off the SOS, at least for now.

Double tap to wake screen? Think LG were first to introduce this.i rembere there were some apps on play store just to do that. Some gesture apps might have that feature.
But Note 8 has alternatives. You can wake up with on screen vibrating button and you can change sensitivity. Also using AOD it has sift button to double tap.

Hard press home is a much better alternative, at least in my opinion to double tap anyway.
Just press where the home button should be (even if you can't see it) as if it was a physical button, the phone will vibrate as if you have pressed a proper button and it will turn on, or go home.

The only thing with double tap to wake or hard press the home button is you still have your security feature after that. I find it easier just to hit my fingerprint. But I use Nova for double tap to sleep.

Hmm. Yes. Sometimes just to see the notifications I do not want to hit the power button.
You can double tap the Active Display home button. It will take a HARD press or a double tap. It doesn't use the whole screen, but I like the double tap better.
Anyone know how to combine the "lockscreen" with the "pattern"... basically have the pattern always display (and hidden)? It seemed to be an option on previous devices.
I just want to turn on my screen and swipe in my pattern. Right now, the minimalist lockscreen (while pretty), requires an EXTRA unneeded swipe before pulling up the pattern view.
There are too many taps/swipes going on just to get to the desktop. May seem trivial but I'm on my phone a lot for work so I am trying to save as much time as possible.

I use the "press screen" option with the Iris recognition and works flawless. Is fast and secure. Should give a try
Yea I've experimented with that. The picture it took of my eyes was blurry af, so I don't even know how it would work. It is pretty fast though, but the point is I don't want to really pick up my phone every second. Again, I work from home and in remote Support. I typically am remoted into a couple sites and use my phone for my dedicated email screen. So every few seconds I have to unlock.
I just feel like the Active Display is a good lockscreen already. Maybe I'll just remove the "lockscreen" altogether since it just adds a bunch of extra unneeded steps. What I want is just an Active Display > Hard Press or Double Tap > Pin or Pattern. The extra lockscreen is useless.

What is active display? You mean the always on display (aod)?
Anyways I think the phone does what you are asking.. with my phone on the desk I push down on the home button and it goes from the aod to the pattern in one press of the virtual home button. Then I swipe in my pattern.
You can also lower the pressure needed for the home button

In Display > Navigation bar options, there is an option for Hard press bypass the lockscreen. It was turned off in my phone. Someone in another thread clued me in.
That works as requested. It was just in a weird place. That option should be in lockscreen, since it directly references actions with the lockscreen.

I mean it affects every aspect of the UI, so I could also see the location of it argued the other way. Guess that's why we have a search bar in settings.
on my note 7 you'd long press recent apps, and it would bring up menu, how do you access the menu button now? I came across an app today that didn't have an onscreen software menu button and couldn't figure out where Samsung buried the menu button this time.
thanks!
I only have one app that I use that is like that, on my Note 5 long pressing the back button brought up the menu. I use the same version app on my Note 8 but on the Note 8 to the right of the back button 3 dots appear to bring up the menu. I tried the long pressing the back button anyway but it doesn't do anything. That's the only app that I use where I have ever seen the 3 dots appear to the right of the back button, so far anyway.
really so it just appeared for you in that app on its own?
interesting, it isn't in my app. surely there's a way to toggle menu tho right? Samsung didn't completely remove it did they?
Yeah, I didn't do anything, it just appears on it own. Screenshot attached showing the 3 dots & the menu that it brings up.
There is another way but it's kind of annoying. Go to settings>accessibility>dexterity & interaction, then enable assistant menu. It'll put a round button on the screen, opening that & holding down the back button will bring up the hidden menu. That's the annoying part but at least you can move the button around to anywhere on the screen.
That's the weird part, long pressing the back button in that assistant menu will bring up the hidden menu just like it did for my Note 5 but long pressing the actual back button on my Note 8 doesn't do anything.
WOW, that assistant menu trick actually worked... dude that's genius, thanks! I only needed the menu for a second to adjust an important setting, can't thank you enough!

No problem. Glad it worked out for you! That's actually how I had to do it on my Note 5. There was some kind of glitch, even though the back button brought up the menu, as soon as I released the back button the menu would disappear sometimes. Using the assistant menu was the only other way I could do it.
