coming from a nexus 4 im a little lost. i want to get back to stock android if possible. ive flashed my nexus many times so im quite comfortable doing it.
i saw this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3-compact/general/list-stock-firmwares-d5803-d5833-t2906706
i assume this is "sony's stock" and not a nexus 4 "google stock"?
i remember sony phones being difficult with the bootloaders and in the case of my old galaxy S development teams needing to build driver sets to ensure everything works since they weren't available from the samsung etc. are there any issues with custom roms on the Z3 not functioning 100% ?
i noticed sony recently announced allowing us to boot into recovery, will this change things and should i wait a little for new roms?

Right!
For Vanilla Android you can start here:
- http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3-...m-aosp-5-0-beta-v2-0-lollipop-xperia-t2942744
- http://fxpblog.co/qualcomm-krait-400-family/sony-xperia-z3-compact/
But in my opinion, for now there is no real usable Stock Vanilla Android for Z3C...
thanks! ill trim down a sony stock build for now then and go from there. its no where near as annoying as my galaxy S1
beware of the DRM keys topic - sony rom is very stockish.
You should try lollipop on your phone. It's very similar to stock android lollipop

also, this thread:

stock sony rom massively debloated and xposed included. And super easy to use.

Hello.. I am just new here in xda.. I just bought my note 4 months ago and I think I am not maximing its potentials..My phone is already rooted.
I just want to ask your opinions on how can I make my phone cool/useful?
What rom are you on? Personally I believe the note should be more tablet like which is why I like cm based roms especially paranoid android 2.50. Gives you the option to have different display modes per app.
I also prefer a vanilla feel that helps with battery as all bloatware is removed.
This is impossible to advise really without knowing what you use the note for.

Flash 4.1.2 rom
You will feel like you have a note 2
Customising the Galaxy Note GT-N7000
It really depends what you mean by cool.........
Super fast - using kernels optimised for performance such as HydraCore
Bleeding edge Jelly Bean ROMs such as Paranoid Android
Rock solid TouchWiz ROMs such as Rocket ROM ICS and now JellyBean (based on recent leaked Samsung ROMs)
EyeCandy-tastic ROMs such as RocketMIUI
Pay attention to what these different ROMs don't do when you are considering which to flash and play with.
E.G. a lot of the stripped down ROMs and those based on CyanoGenMod don't have the Samsung productivity apps.
So if you love S-Memo, S-Note, S-Voice, look at the TouchWiz ROMs.
There are alternatives to all the Samsung productivity apps in the Google Play Store, if you find the ROM you want to stick with doesn't have them.
You are rooted, so you just need to get to grip with some of the basics of flashing ROMs..
Sujal has a great thread to take you through the whole process from out of the box to custom ROM and custom Kernel.
Chasmodo has a great thread which will help you understand what kernels are safe on the Note.
It is advisable to make a Nandroid backup of your current build through CWM before you start playing with different ROMs.
Then you can restore your working build through CWM if anything goes pear shaped.
The cool thing is that once you have got to grips with flashing and understand safe kernels, then you can flash as many different ROMs as you like until you find the one that suits you.
NOTE: Custom ROMs do not update OTA (Over The Air), through Kies or any other official update mechanism. You need to keep an eye on the thread for the custom ROM you are using and flash the updates from the thread.
Just in case you ever lose root (it does happen):
The best up to date guide for rooting is Dr. Ketan's Rooting Guide. (in my opinion)
Dr. Ketan really knows his stuff and will be happy to answer questions when he is around.
Phil3759 has another great rooting guide which may also help, and has potentially simpler methods for rooting.
You will need to pay attention to the N7000 specific elements of this thread to avoid any unintentional bricking.
Sorry, I'm sure this will have been posted before, but I used the search function and couldn't narrow the results to what I was looking for.
I have a UK EE spec S3 LTE (Kernel - 3.0.31-1153417, Build - JZO54K-I9305XXBMF1). I have seen MSkip's excellent S3 Unified Toolkit and I am close to getting the courage to root my device, ready to put a different firmware on it to get rid of all the crap that Samsung "think" I want.
I have a couple of questions first though:
1. Can someone recommend a ROM that is the closest to stock Android (JB of course) as I love the feel of the Nexus devices. Unless 'proper' stock Android is an option.
2. Does anyone know is installing a custom ROM will affect how my 4G data reception/operation.
3. How likely am I to make a total arse of it and brick my phone?
I'm sure I'll get a few "wrong thread". "Q&A"."Theres the door dimwit" responses, but I'm big enough and ugly enough, with a heavy duty flamesuit so I can take the insults!! I'm sure someone can help :fingers-crossed:

Well, bricking your phone is nearly impossible, just do whatever the instructions says and you'll be fine.
And the 4G reception won't be affected, since the only thing affecting data is modems, and AOSP ROM got no modems.
And as of question number 1, there's a ROM called SuperNexus, it's exactly like a Nexus 4. But it's rarely updated and sources from CM might be a bit old. I suggest using CM or Carbon since they're being frequently updated.
I hope I answered all of your questions!
Cheers,
Sebastian!

Thanks Sebastian! Not heard of Carbon, i'll have to Google that one. When it comes to CM, would you recommend going nightlies or a more stable version? I've heard Paranoid Android is decent too, any opinions on that one?

Dunno really about Paranoid Android, I don't use it but I find it pretty OK. And if I recall it correctly, there isn't a Stable version of CM for 9305.

Cheers, what do you use; nightlies? How often do you have to flash a new one? Are they as full of bugs as I imagine them to be?
This might sound like a stupid question, when you flash a new ROM, so you lose all your things like email settings, apps and stuff. Does the Google Play app come with a new ROM or do you have to get that as an APK from somewhere and manually install it?

CM is updated every night, hence calling them "nightlies".
CM is very stable, and I often flashed a new nightly every morning.
And question about google apps; you download a different zip file, this file contains all the Google apps.
So you first flash CM then the zip file with google apps.

So when will we see Lollipop AOSP roms or even kitkat for that matter? Seems like we would have had some popping up by now.
I would have to think they wont as its easier to use wanam or similar app to customize the ROM also from what ive seen from N910T ROMs are basically just debloated & that can be done easily. I do hope we see kernels but who knows now since lollipop is making it harder to root unless you have the bootloader unlocked. Yay T-Mobile for not locking it…

Well our device should be getting the official 5.0 update soon . After that you should start seeing roms based off stock that are 5.0. I would think until then Cyanogen and similiar Roms based off googles open sourrce could be whenever . I have all the google 5.0 apps already so Im not too concerned for now . We will get ART Runtime with our official update which will be pretty sweet . Not to sure what you mean by KITKAT since the ROM IM running is KitKat??
Factory images were just released today for all Nexus devices. I say it'll be maybe 2-3 months before anything pops up, but really depends on the Devs.
I'd be pretty excited to see official lollipop on my note 4. Hope that comes soon, as I understand it, the note 4 is the current flagship.

Not happening until sometime mid next year, Samsung is known to delay firmware upgrades.
Hey there!
I own a Sony Xperia SP model C3506, updated to the latest stock version possible (4.3 Jelly Bean). Now, there are a few apps and a very specific one available only to users on 4.4+ (I think someone will probably know exactly which one I mean), and I would absolutely love to install a ROM to my phone to update it and be capable of running this application, but unfortunately for me, it's technically not considered my own phone, as my father claims he only "lent it to me" (for over a year now). He is no idiot, and is the kind of person to notice any little out-of-place characteristics like the battery meter being horizontal instead of vertical, or the colors are different or this or that, so I ask to you all; is there a way install a 4.4 ROM that is so perfectly the same as the stock 4.3 that even my father with a degree in computer science won't see the difference?
I was looking at http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-sp/development/rom-z3-experiencesp-t3039228 , but the big problem is that with that, going into the "About Phone" menu will show the version to be 4.4 and also show the mod version, which, while necessary for most, is not so good for me.
NOTE: If there's a way to edit things in the ROM I linked above to make it look like and claim to be 4.3, then please, tell me how! I'll do it myself if necessary.
Bump.
Just install a stock rom but tell him you added a launcher to it. If ever the phone needs some fixing backup using the recovery and flash the stock rom
Try multirom with stock 4.3 and cm13
And use the stock rom while you're near him
Hey everybody. I'm just wondering what the latest developments are in regards to getting root, custom recovery, and a custom ROM installed on the single sim z3+ ?
Last I looked into it, which was early into this past summer, it was a lengthy process, and there was some confusion about if all Z3+'s bootloader could even be unlocked to began with. Then there was flashing the old official rom, backing up drm keys, trying to flash recovery and gaining root that would stick, and even if you managed to accomplish that much, the Rom selection was basically nonexistent, leaving root apps and Xposed framework as the only difference vs stock.
I've rooted every android I've ever owned, usually immediately, but after digging thru the mess this Sony required I decided to hold off (and at this point, stock versions of android are pretty good and full-featured compared to old versions, so it wasn't as pertinent that I install a new ROM as was the case with older devices).
Has there been any recent breakthroughs? Or is getting root still an iffy, convoluted mess?
Sent from my E6553 using XDA-Developers mobile app
If you just want to have a rooted device, you still have to do all these steps for unlocking your bootloader. After that you just have to flash a moddified Kernel and you are done with rooting. Custom Roms for ths device do exist but non of them are really usable because there are bugs in all Roms wich are not Stock based. Even after Sony does this advertisment "we support open development" thats a big lie, well they publish stuff but what they make public is some crappy buggy copy of the correct files and they call it "usable" but it isnt good as a daily driver. Even FXP isnt able to build bug free aosp roms, and they warn all users that Sony AOSP blobs can damage your device and brick it.
Damn, that sucks. And it's too bad Sony's doing us like that because otherwise, this Sony phone is my favorite device I've owned. One of the reasons I love android is because of the community's custom work, but it looks like a case of pick your poison. Some, like this one, are great devices, but lack the resources to allow customizing. Others are very easy to root and customize, but have their own set of design flaws. It's hard to win all around!
Any news on planned Sony OTA updates beyond 6.0.1?
