i have no idea what that is. or how to find it in the phone. i tried to update the sw via the "update software" in the settings, however after downloading the update, when i attempted to install it, the phone restarted and shows me another screen that says "unlocked" "tampered" then, some other characters then there's the option to choose "reboot", "power down" and two others i cant remember, then i chose reboot and the phone just keep on restarting.
As you have no idea you're better off just waiting for the OTA to come to your phone otherwise you run the risk of breaking something and starting another 'I've bricked my phone' thread...

You will need FASTBOOT.exe & ADB.exe on your computer. Here is an installation [TOOL]Minimal ADB and Fastboot follow the directions in the post. Once they are installed in a cmd window enter the following to commands:
* adb reboot bootloader
* fastboot getvar all
In order to successfully run an OTA (update), you phone must have the stock recovery and be LOCKED or RELOCKED. It looks like your phone is UNLOCKED. The fastboot command to lock your bootloader is fastboot oem lock. However, don't lock it until after we can see what your getvar reveals. When you post your getvar all remove the variables for imei and serial numbers. You don't want this floating around the internet.

you cannot update your phone thru OTA because you are unlock and tampered meaning you have custom recovery installed., try some other custom rom to make your device sense 6

Alright, I somewhat hate Android 6.0, and that's because of my hard time rooting my Nexus 6, which is, at this point, becoming immensely irritating. If I'm allowed to do so here, since this is a Q&A board, I need to ask how the hell to root this thing, because of Android's new thing where I have to install a custom kernal to get root.
All I really know, now, ids that I need to unlock the bootloader of the phone, which I've been trying to do (installed SDK's platform tools, made sure my Nexus 6 Windows drivers are installed, but when I open a command prompt to unlock the bootloader, I'm met with a, "no devices found," response, so I have no clue what to do, and need some help, because with how many tutorials I've looked up for how to do this, and none of them working, I'm about heady to break my monitor. If anyone can explain what the **** I'm doing wrong, or link to a tutorial for how to unlock the bootloader, that actually explains what's needed to do so, it'd be appreciated.

This is how i always root the phone:
- Enable usb debugging and ENABLE OEM UNLOCKING in developer options
- Reboot into the bootloader and type fastboot oem unlock and let the phone boot up
- Flash TWRP in fastboot
- Go to recovery and flash a modified boot.zip (all custom kernels will do)
- Flash the latest superSU.zip, also in recovery
- Done
Here is a tut for the adb setup (Windows) http://www.redmondpie.com/how-to-set-up-android-adb-and-fastboot-on-windows-tutorial/.
- Reboot into the bootloader and type fastboot oem unlock and let the phone boot up
That's my problem. Opening up the command prompt and typing, "fastboot OEM unlock," does absolutely nothing. No prompts come up on the phone. It just sits there, and doesn't do anything.

Do you see a serial number in fastboot if you type: fastboot devices? If not your drivers aren`t installed correctly or adb isn`t setup correctly.

I'm using Windows Vista, so I had to add an underscore, and type, "fastboot oem_unlock," to get the bootloader unlocked. Everything is restoring, now, however, I'm wondering if I'll have to do something similar with flashing TWRP, and the kernal I'm attempting to install. I don't know programming or cmd commands.

You only have to flash the TWRP.img file in fastboot, the rest (boot/superSU) are zip files to be flashed in recovery. I have no experience with Vista so can`t help you there, maybe there is some info about it on Google/YouTube.
Hi. I can't unlock my bootloader. I have got the code off Sony, my laptop detected in fastboot, I have followed the unlock instructions set out by Sony as. In fastboot OEM unlock 0x(key) but it return a error saying incorrect data format! I have double checked over everything and the way the fastboot command was typed but still comes back with that specific error. Any help would be great.
Sorry can mods please move this post to question and answers please.
Hi,
I just ordered a Pixel 5 on eBay, and it came with the bootloader unlocked. I would like to lock it again, but have been unsuccessful in my attempts so far.
I followed the guide on Nerds Chalk--
https://nerdschalk.com/pixel-xl-relock-bootloader/
I was able to connect the phone to the PC and boot the Pixel into bootloader mode using PowerShell.
But I tried the command 'fastboot oem lock', and the response was "Waiting for devices..."
Any help with troubleshooting this?

The correct command is fastboot flashing lock
If you're seeing Waiting for devices... this means that fastboot does not see the device, most likely because you don't have the correct drivers installed.
Hi I've a pixel5, it was reset to V11 software for compatibility with my son's medical device. Now with added security the app wont work because the bootlaoder is open. When I boot it say sits unlocked and to visit g.co/ABH
I've tried but cannot get it closed
When I go to fastboot I get the 'no command'.. on tring to flash it allows me to see the device and reboot the bootloader BUT then it will not respond to the cmd fastboot devices. when I try fastboot flashing lock it just says <waiting for device>
Any help? !
Billy
Try installing the usb driver https://developer.android.com/studio/run/win-usb

I'm confused about "sits unlocked" and if this means you're stuck on the unlocked bootloader warning screen. If the phone hangs you're better off keeping the bootloader unlocked until that problem is sorted out. If it's starting, on the other hand...
Waiting for device means fastboot isn't communicating with the phone. Could be USB drivers. But if you flashed Android 11 from the same computer, drivers were working then, right?
In Developer options make sure USB debugging is enabled. While there, and while the bootloader is still unlocked, make sure OEM unlock is in the On position; it will flip back to Off when the bootloader is locked again.
Use Platform Tools 33.0.3 when trouble shooting USB to avoid trouble shooting Platform Tools 34.x.x.
As long as you get serial number output from commands adb devices and fastboot devices, fastboot flashing lock should work to re-lock the bootloader. Remember to finalize locking with the phone buttons.
Thank you both is was indeed the USB driver that needed the google update... All is well! thanks
