I was taking a look at the disassembly/source of /system/bin/charge_only_mode, and I seem to have (re?)-discovered a strange "backdoor" that is present on some Motorola devices (Like the Moto X). It seems booting the phone up in a stock ROM, unlocking the screen, and immediately hitting the buttons:
Code:
Volume Up
Volume Up
Volume Down
Volume Down
Volume Up
Volume Up
Volume Down
Volume Down
Hold the Power key
Will call /system/bin/memtest_mode and put the device into a sort of hidden "secret memtest mode" that allows you to run all sorts of interesting diagnostic utilities on your phone as uid 0. Has this already been known, and if so, what can you do with it?

I have the following problem:
I call a number and set the in-call volume to any level and wait for the HTV volume screen do disappear.
1. Sometimes as soon as the volume setting screen disappears the volume gets reverted back to the lowest setting. --> I have to keep presing the VolumeUp button in order to hear the other party.
2. Other times the volume is kept when the control disappears However, when I want to set the volume again it forgets my previous volume setting and starts from the lowest setting again.
3. Sometimes it even displays max volume on the screen but I hear that the lowest setting is selected because the volume is very low. I also cannot increase the volume because it thinks that the highest setting is selected. I can press volume down and volume up again, which solves the problem.
I like the design of the HTC volume control, so I do not want to revert back to the default WM volume slider. However, the UI of the HTC volume control is not in correlation with the actual volume level. Any suggestions?
I have an I9000M. When I press the volume up key, it goes 1 step at a time, but when I press volume down it either does 1, or drops to zero/half instantly.
Is this a known hardware issue with the phone or more software?
Hi, I have a problem with my HD7, the volume rocker has stopped working and volume is set to 0. I heard that I could unlock the phone and then get an app from bazaar called 'Volume Slider' that would allow me to change the volume without the rocker.
My problem though is that all the guides I've read about unlocking seem to need you to hold down the volume button when rebooting and I can't do this since it doesn't work. Any suggestions?
Thanks
Hi,
Could someone tell me what I need to get the sound options (such as silent and vibrate) to appear on the "Phone Options" menu which appears when you press and hold down the power key? This is an extremely useful feature on the S4 in order to mute the phone quickly and I am wondering whether I need a custom firmware to achieve this? My phone is rooted.
Thanks
My volume rocker failed and now the volume down key is almost constantly pressed down. Is there any way I can disable the volume keys from being recognized until I can get through the RMA process? I am rooted.
Thanks.
