[Q] Which auto root software - G 2014 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
Is there a suitable auto root file that I can use for my Motorola G (2014) 2nd generation XT-1068 with Android 5.0.2?
I've found Chainfire's Moto G 2014 XT1068 (titan_retaildsds) and Moto G 2014 XT1068 (titan_retde), but neither of these seem to me to be an obvious match for my phone's system version 22.41.16.titan_retailgb.retgball.en.GB retgb.
Thanks

Hi Vedant Mistry
Thanks for your prompt response – screenshot attached of the lower half of the About phone screen.
Does this affect your previous reply about flashing TWRP 2.8.6.0 recovery and then installing supersuv2.46.zip?

I know this is not what you're asking for, but honestly, I think it's easier to simply flash SuperSU using TWRP recovery.
Use TWRP 2.8.6.0 and SuperSU 2.4.6, both should be easy to find and install.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I think that's the route I'll now follow – I've already downloaded these files and will be good to go with the rooting in the morning – too late to start with a clear head now! :fingers-crossed:

Good luck bud! Make sure you have the fastboot drivers installed in order to install the custom recovery.

No Official TWRP 2.7 for Moto X?

Does anyone know why the Moto X is not listed on TWRP's supported devices page?
http://teamw.in/twrp_view_all_devices
I would really like to have twrp 2.7 for USB OTG mounting. Anyone know why it's not available?
Moto x is not supported by twrp. So someone needs to make a Moto x version. Just like the other versions we have.
Sent from my N5 cell phone telephone....
TWRP 2.6.3.1 works just fine with the Moto X. USBotg works natively with v4.4.2 but leaves a notification that cannot be cleared. Using Stickmount, unmounting leaves a notification error, but that can be swiped away.
TWRP encrypted /data support for Moto X ?
I have the latest (2.6.3.2 twrp motox from dhacker) and have recently encrypted /data.
As a result, when I go to do a backup twrp is unable to mount /data and therefore fails.
I've googled various things (twrp, encryption, motox, various combinations) and this
was the most promising thread.
As mentioned (above) twrp doesn't support the motox devices...
Does anyone have any suggestions how to
a. take a backup of the encrypted /data partition
b. find a twrp for motox that will do so
or worst case
c. where to find instructions on how to build twrp for the xt1053/58/60...
Thanks in advance.

Are you talking about OTG in recovery or in the actual android OS? I'm talking about twrp recovery... didn't know there was a way to use stick mount in recovery... anyway otg works within cwm recovery but not twrp for me.... why isn't the Moto x officially supported by TWRP? There are a lot more less popular devices that are... Thanks

Yeah, sorry, I didn't get that you were only specifically looking for otg in recovery. I've never tried it in recovery. Also, I don't have an encrypted phone.

Absolutely, one could definitely flash the img via fastboot.
The point is, now that Moto X has official support of TWRP, the OFFICIAL TWRP page recommends using the Official "TWRP Manager" app.
This is a great idea, because you can easily flash any new updates from directly within the app.
So: Anyone interested in updating to the new version, go ahead and flash via fastboot as @klobkelosh has suggested.
But it would still be nice for the "TWRP Manager" link to be fixed so that we can use the app, as the developers intended.
Information on the app here: http://teamw.in/project/twrp2/234
As for "Flashify", that app was reported in another Moto X forum to NOT work on the Moto X. If you have personally used it and it does indeed work for flashing recovery to Moto X, please post back here and let us know. I have not recommended the app to anyone because it was reported to fail while attempting to flash recovery on the X.

My bad. I have not tested flashify on Moto x. I used it on a gnex and made the unfounded assumption that it works on Moto x. Apologies.
On the other hand... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=53311645
Hopefully the twrp manager developers can fix the problem.
Flashed 2.7.1.1 with flashify just recently and all is good. Nice not having to plug in using the fastboot method.

Thanks for the info. Now we know this is a working alternative.
Also, sent a message notifying the TWRP team of the broken in-app link. I imagine it will be fixed soon.

Why not a new thread? I'm not trying to start an argument, just curious... The current thread about TWRP is titled with version 2.6.3.1 with 489 replies, making a new one would clean it up.

Sure...do it. I agree that it should clean things up.
You might even include info about the new version of SuperSU. This could be useful since those on 4.4.3 are recommended to use the latest versions of both TWRP and SuperSU.

[Q] Moto G Bootloop

Hi,
I have moto g 2014 dual sim. today I tried to reflash the os but got "Failed to validate system image" upon reboot. So I unlocked the bootloader and again reflashed the os but got bootloop.. Please tell me how to boot my moto G 2014?
Read the instructions and flash it correctly with the correct firmware. Also post your question in the correct section.
If you have winrar or 7zip you can extract the firmware and take the "boot.img" file and flash it separate from the other firmware and it should work. That's how I do mine.

Let me tell you the series of events that led me to have bricked Moto G 2014:
1. I had X1068 Moto G 2-14
2. Wanted to reflash firmware and followed the steps provided in 4.2 section here http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g-2014/general/restore-to-stock-t2873657
3. I got "Failed to Validate System Image" when I tried to reboot.
4. I was advised to unlock bootloader and reflash firmware. I did the same but got bootloop when I tried to reboot.
5. Now when I power on the phone, bootloader unlocked warning message comes and the screen blinks with the same message..
Please help Bro..
Who ever told you to unlock bootloader to flash firmware is giving bad advice. It is not required to unlock the bootloader to flash the factory firmware.
Make sure you're using the driver from here: http://www.mymotocast.com/download/MDM?platform=windows
(If you have other Android ADB drivers installed, uninstall them first, before installing this one.)
Make sure you are using mfastboot.exe, not the regular fastboot.exe.
Make sure your downloaded firmware is not corrupt and you got the correct version of the firmware for your device, there are different ones.
Download the firmware from here: http://sbf.droid-developers.org/phone.php?device=36
I believe your file is "Blur_Version.21.11.14.titan_retaildsds.retaildsdsall.en.03", but check on it.
After you reflash, make sure you boot into recovery mode and do a factory wipe.
The firmware for this phone is split into 3 files, so make sure you flash all three of them.

Greetings from Venezuela. Just recently, I bought a new Moto G since my old S3 got severly damaged which made it unrepairable. I loved the reviews about de Moto G, but sadly since I got it I've had no luck with it.
While being connected to a WiFi connection, just looking around the celphone's settings, the phone required a system update straight off the bat. I had noticed before the update that the phone was instantly rebooting once the inactivity timer went off locking itself. Obviously after some time I did notice it by locking the phone manually (pressing the power button). I'm not that geeky or experienced in the Android field, but by doing some research on the web I've read some stuff that makes me not lose all hope on the phone, making me want to fix it.
I've tried factory resets, recoverys and nothing has worked. It has made me really frustrated not being able to fix the issue. All I've really done refering to flashing is unlocking bootloader, but still without flashing anything yet to make sure what I'm doing is the right thing to do.
Specs
Android version: 5.0.2
Baseband version: MSM8626BP_1032.3112.97.00R
RETUSA_AWS_CUST
Kernel version: 3.4.42-gf18cb80
System version: 22.46.12.titan_retuaws.retuaws.en.US retus
Need help with this, and I'll be eternally grateful with anyone that can help me.
P.S: new to the forums. In any case that I'm missing something, let me know.

I followed the inscrutions, successfully flashing stock rom. But the bug is still there since the phone keeps rebooting once the screen is locked. Still need to know if there's any fix. Thanks for the help!
A New Problem
I recently got an ~138mb OTA update, tried to install it, after downloading it, but it failed at default recovery installer, rebooting with an error message saying "Update installation unsuccessful". Hence, I tried it with a custom recovery TWRP installed in my mobile, with TWRP manager app for android (with my phone rooted obviously) So after downloading update, on giving install, it goes to TWRP recovery main menu, from there I dont know how to install the downloaded update, or where it is available to browse to... Being unsure, I rebooted it to normal boot up, but no matter what I do now, the phone after turning on in the home screen, automatically powers down(switching off) to TWRP recovery main menu, I am stuck here please help me, someone.
I dont wanna lose all my data!! Give me a suitable solution

Well, flashing with TWRP only worked for me on KitKat, it stopped working for 5.02, but what I did was used auto root for Lollipop, I was told this is the only supported method for this device on Lollipop, are you still on 4.4.4 or did you receive the OTA 5.02?
And as you are trying Auto Root, are you sure you are choosing the correct one for your device, it took me an hour or so to ensure that it was the correct one, I analysed all the tags and compared them with my version, there was a few for my device so I had to make sure everything matched.
This is the one I used, it works but best check if it fits your device: download(dot)chainfire(dot)eu/603/CF-Root/CF-Auto-Root/CF-Auto-Root-titanumtsds-titanretaildsds-xt1068.zip
You need to add the http protocol and replace (dot) with .
It won't let me post links.

After the flash was successful with TWRP, I launched the SU app and it said something along the lines of 'SuperUser is not installed correctly' I used the exact same method as I did on KitKat, I then learned that this is no longer the way of rooting the device on Lollipop, I installed TWRP for nothing.
After rooting via TWRP 2.8.5.0 try to change the mode with SELinux Mode Changer: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mrbimc.selinux&hl=de

Chainfire himself is strictly against changing SELinux. That's why he had to invest so much time and even bought a Moto G (2014) so he can fix any error resulting of enforced SELinux. SuperSU 2.45 was the result of his investigation into the XT106x.

CR Auto Root is the only method that worked for me since the lollipop update, I tried the SU zip with TWRP, i t was successful, however the SU app just displayed an error message saying that if wasn't installed correctly.
I did exactly the same thing as before, the only thing that changed was the new update.

Thx for that info. Didn´t heard that and if Chainfire said so it´s better to follow that.
And btt, flashing TWRP 2.8.4.0 or 2.8.5.0 with latest superSU (2.46 at the moment) should work with 5.0.2 without any other variations.

Need help, Rooted the phone, via twrp, but I wanted to revert back to stock recovery, I try to flash stock recovery with fastboot, then unroot the phone.
Then I try to go to recovery mode, and got to rescue mode.
Turn off phone, and reboot, and start just as I had it with my apps and everything.
But no stock recovery Need your help guys, what sould I do?
Edit: I managed to reinstall TWRP
In future updates, do I have to reinstall stock ? Or TWRP works like stock recovery for updates?
I erase some system apps google, hangouts, etc
Can I factory reset with TWRP, and configure the phone again, or do I need to flash firmware on stock recovery?
Is there a flashable zip for TWRP to downgrade or update firmware?
Sorry for my bad english, noob here!

Wrong Recovery flashed on Moto E5 XT1944

Hi!. I recently received my new Moto E5 XT1944-1 and i wanted to root, unlock bootloader and everything. For that reason i enter this forum and get the TWRP recovery from de Moto E5 (James), but i dont know that the James (5,2 inch screen) is not the same that my Moto E5 (5,7 inch screen), and now the recovery seems to be corrupt and cant enter, only enter on fastboot mode. I need to say that the smartphone boots normally, but i fear the day that i need to make a full wipe and cant enter recovery. What can i do to reflash the original recovery?. Thanks to all help given.
Edit: I need to say that the bootloader is successfully unlocked, but still the problem with the recovery.

I need to say that the smartphone boots normally, but i fear the day that i need to make a full wipe and cant enter recovery. What can i do to reflash the original recovery?. Thanks to all help given.
Edit: I need to say that the bootloader is successfully unlocked, but still the problem with the recovery.

Because the Moto E5 series is so young in terms of both its recent release and its limited support within the Android community, finding factory firmware packages is not easy right now. Typically, in your situation, simply extracting a stock recovery image from a firmware package and flashing it in fastboot would be your best remedy by far. But, if you have corrupted your recovery partition and are unable to locate a stock image, I would recommend first that you ask some members and devs on the furum to dump a stock recovery image that you could flash to fix your issue. Second, if you are rooted, make an immediate dump of your /system, /boot, /oem and /vendor partitions. That way, if your OS does decide not to boot, you can restore your partition dumps via fastboot (as long as your bootloader is unlocked). If you are not rooted and are thus unable to dump your key partitions, I'd advise to just be really careful in terms of modding or tweaking your stock OS. Firmware packages will likely be available by September, maybe sooner. Until then, reach out and ask some members & devs if they can provide you with a stock recovery image. Good luck...
First, thanks for your fast reply. My phone isn't rooted yet, i stop doing the guide of the James version because i think i do it worst. I can test the Kingroot app o whetever it names, but i prefer to wait and stop installing apps (only the basic: Telegram, Youtube, etc for daily use). I dont know who Devs or Members have this system. But i will stay reading this section of forum everyday to stay update of the news. Thanks for all pal!.
Edit: Sorry for my bad english, i'm spanish and dont know so much

It's ok friend. I understand you good. I am currently developing for the James xt1921-5 (Boost/Virgin/Sprint) variant and, as such, I am keeping a close watch for factory firmware to be released for the James. I will contact you as soon as I can confirm a firmware source for your particular model (xt1944-1). Currently, there are only paid subscription-type repositories which offer firmware downloads online. I don't recommend or support sources that charge a fee for firmware. But, it won't be long. September at the latest, possibly sooner.

Thank you so much!. I will stay update to any news here. I know that this model is so soon, my network provider offers me this, and cause i allways use Motorola (Moto E1, Moto G, Moto G2014), then i accept thinking that the scene was more advanced. My surprise when i see that this version was recently released...
Well, then it's time to wait to see how the scene grow up.
Regards pal!.

Great news @intherior -- Motorola Mobility has leaked some factory firmware packages for yours and a few other variants. I'll be posting a thread with download links by tomorrow evening. In fact, here is you a link to the specific file you need -- the stock recovery image for the xt1944-1. You can flash this via fastboot mode by:
