I have upgraded to L using Walter's method. Everything is pretty much good except that I can no longer get a GPS fix in any app I use. I can see plenty of satellites (upwards of 21), but will not get a fix...seemingly ever (I let it try on a 2 hour drive). To clarify, GPS worked quite well on 4.x.
I've tried a few workarounds such as:
GPS settings to get assist data
secret code to rebuild nvm or something like that
turning on and off high accuracy
performed the hardware hack mentioned in the general forum
I haven't tried a factory reset yet, and I'd like to avoid it if possible. Just curious as I've seen this problem detailed for several devices and networks, but no real solutions.
Thanks in advance.

Quick question. You do the stock or rooted OC1 http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-3-att/general/update-procedure-lollipop-5-0-oc1-t3063760 ? Think about flashing it myself.

The rooted from post 2. Everything else seems to be good.
Make sure you have oc1 modem. I play ingress and have no GPS issues
There were 2 many reasons why it is very slow to get GPS lock but one problem that I know 100% causes the GPS to lock slowly and not at all because of the aluminium back case that I was using on my galaxy note 3. I tested the GPS status toolbox with back case aluminium and sometimes the GPS lock took long time to fix and sometimes it did not lock at all! But supprisingly, when I remove the back case cover, I don't have that problem anymore. So, check if you have the back case aluminium. Something is interfering with the GPS signal. Now my note 3 is naked without back case but I'm happy this solved the issue. As I said this is one of the problem that caused the GPS lock issue. Perhaps there are more...
Tried everything including factory reset, still no luck
I tried almost everything as OP and did a Factroy reset. Still have the same issue, GPS cant get lock in. It works flawlessly before, start to having this issue after updating to lollipop, dont remember if it happened just after or not.
Is any other possible method to fix this?
Thanks,

I'm running the urdroid rom at the moment but I've also ran about all the custom roms for the note 3. No matter what rom or app I use it will not get a fox on location or even pick up one satellite. I've taken phone apart and checked the connections they all look good. Does anybody have any ideas what could be wrong with it or suggestions on how to fix?

Yes I have tried that I should have mentioned that before I've tried it on 2 different roms. Didn't change anything on either one mine doesn't get a fix them lose it, it just never gets a fix on a satellite. Maybe the gps chip is bad in the phone I don't know is there anyway of checking that?

I just now tried that app. I opened it and it showed no satellites so I pressed reset gps, then download xtra data and still nothing after about 5 minutes. I still have no clue what's wrong with it.

Try this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/...fix+app&pcampaignid=APPU_88iwU9unK8SvyASZj4FA make sure you're in a clear sky and let it search. If not then you should return your phone to AT&T and get a replacement. I am running firekat (which is the twin brother of Urdroid) and it locks in no time.

I tried all these apps but none of them worked. I used to have working GPS on S5 ROM, so I did a Nandroid backup of my current setup, wiped everything, flashed S5 ROM, got a GPS lock a couple of times, reboot in recovery, restore my Nandroid backup.
Hope this helps...
Having serious troubles with the GPS (I think ever since I upgraded to KitKat). I've tried a couple of ROMs and went back to the stock rooted one found here. I will get a fix at times but it will be lost within a minute or so and makes things very frustrating.
What's the best way to troubleshoot this? I've tried Chartcross GPS test, but it doesn't fix anything. Any help would be really appreciated.
Anybody?

If you google your question you will find loads of the same exact issue. I am also having the same exact issue, it only kind of works on stock rom with no root. But even then not for very long. Samsung decided to put garbage gps radio's in our phones so gps is pretty much non existent on the Note 3. I'm on my 4th phone from ATT. Not only does the GPS suck, the connection losses are pretty unbearable at times and have actually costed me customers. And to think I traded my S5 for this POS....really frustrating.
TLDR: Someone at Samsung needs punched in the face, twice.

Interesting. Mine was working perfectly prior to this whole kitkat ordeal. If I Odin back to stick and reflash to 4.4.2, do you think it will remedy the issue?
That's what i did because I need gps daily, though it still has major issues, I'm literally trying to sell it, my s5 never lost lock, even in my pocket.

Do you think there's any use in ODIN'ng back to stock and then trying the custom 4.4.2 ROMs or is it not going to work?
Happy stock user here using only official Sony upgrades (non rooted) on my Z3C. 5.1.1 arrived 3 days ago, I did a factory reset after the upgrade and woah, suddenly I have no more clean GPS locks anymore. It was working perfectly and now it locks in about 5% of all attempts and even then loses fix in a minute or so.
Tried to search around, clean agps data, refresh agps data, double check location services and what not, nothing helped so far. I just arrived to Greece with my family for vacation and had to find our apartment with a paper map - a pretty amusing experience anyway, not counting my wife's harsh comments..
Should anyone have an idea to counter this problem, it's most welcome. Should anyone have a similar experience with the 5.1.1 upgrade, this would be comforting at least..
Thanks and enjoy an otherwise brilliant smooth upgrade!
I seem to experience this as well. I regularly check the weather (several times per day) and I can hardly find my position, so I'll have to resort to manually type in my location (which doesn't provide me with the precise location prognose that I'm looking for).
same here, 1weather really struggles to locate my phone
Just by chance, are you also EU users? I thought maybe the 5.1.1 update defaults to some US settings and this might cause the problem.
What I tried already and did not help (to save you some time):
- removed Google backup and do another factory reset to avoid restoring some backed up settings which might be the cause
- various gps apps from play store which claim to fix/reset gps, with or without rebooting between attempts
- resetting gps settings from the service menu accessible via codes from the dialler
I'll also try to achieve root and install custom rooms from xda once I'm back from my holiday (assuming that I'll find the airport with a paper map )

Yes, I'm Swedish.
Have you tried GPS Status from the store and downloading the A-GPS data??
Yes, of course, many times with many different apps. Made no difference at all..
No problem with gps in Ingress or different maps while driving around in Denmark.

Mine isn't broken, I can still get locks. It just takes it sweet time most of the time.
Yes, go into the settings, then location and enable "device only" (only gps). Then try to get a lock somewhere. If that doesn't work, then your GPS is broken.

See the attachment.. it seems I can get a lock too! It happened after 10-12 minutes of searching after clearing A-GPS data and after 5-10 seconds (!) it loses it and often also falls back to having exactly 0 satellites in both "in view" and "in use" (as if turning GPS off completely and restarting seeking from scratch).
I assume it's rather a software than a hardware problem then, or..?
I have a similar problem with andosm app. If I let the app open on the background with my screen off, when I turn the screen on I have a precise location with 5 to 10 GPS fix but 5 seconds later the GPS fix drop to 0 and have to wait 30 second to get my location back.
After upgrading to 5.1.1 my GPS stopped working. I was unable to obtain a lock in Google Maps (as well as the Service Menu).
I downgraded to 5.0.2 but the situation did not improve.
I ended up sending my phone in for repairs (under warranty). So far the seller has confirmed that the "GPS is not functioning as expected" and has sent it to the repair centre.
Hopefully I'll get it back with a working GPS eventually!

No, I did not - I was in a rush unfortunately.
I have had the exact same issue since upgrading to 5.1.1. I was convinced my GPS hardware was broken as I had tried all of the possible fixes I could think of (a-gps clearing / factory reset etc etc), I have sent mine for repair under my insurance policy, but they have already sent it back once without being able to fix. I too am getting GPS fix eventually, but it is very weak and I lose lock after 5-10 seconds, especially when in motion (in a car).
I am hoping this time that they just replace the phone. Will reply here if that resolves the issue.
Would be interesting to see if anyone was able to resolve this through rooting/custom ROM...
---------- Post added at 04:15 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:03 PM ----------
Also it looks like there are others that are having the same issues (possibly since before 5.1.1 as well):
I cant post the url, but there is a forum on the sony website if you google for it.
it seems strange that this doesn't seem to affect everyone...
I'm not sure how it is for others but I most often get a fix now in a few minutes (without changing anything on the software or hardware side!) and it's so-so stable, losing it only 1-2 times per minute So it's very far from perfect but much better than a month ago..
I would _love_ to know what the hell is going on here. If nothing changed on my phone's side, I'm about to believe that it's a central issue..
Same issue here: Xperia Compact Z1
Upgraded last week and had no GPS since. GPS test receives no lock
Am running stock rom - Upgraded from 5.0.4 (i think) to 5.1.1
This is definitely 5.1.1 as had no issues before this. Bit worried that downgrading isn't helping anyone.. going to do some more digging and see if there is any fix for my out of warranty handset

Ok, my warranty expired too! I also tried software repair and still not working and i now see that Bluetooth also is not working.
Hey guys. I fixed this on my phone about a month ago. So far no one has commented if it has helped them or not, but here is my post again. Let me know if it helps.
I had this problem on my Z3c for a while (as well as no wifi or bluetooth). My device is well out of warranty. I received a RMA number last week to send it in in hopes that it would be an affordable fix. I was getting it ready to send out today and decided to try a couple more things.
As others have said, I went in to the diagnostics and test the WiFi (passed) Bluetooth (passed) and GPS (failed). I then decided to test WiFi and Bluetooth a couple more times to see if it would eventually fail. It never did. After that, I went to turn WiFi on manually and to my suprise.... it turned on! Bluetooth and GPS were also magically working.
Before this I had tried numerous factory resets, diferent android versions, different roms (without unlocking the bootloader) with no success. I'm not sure exactly what happened, but hopefully it can work for some of you!

I have exactly the same problem but only one thing is different that my Bluetooth is working. There only problem is wifi. I belive that is no hardware problem. There must be some kind of glitch in software where you accidentally doing this things jumped over. I have tried your tip. No success. Im going to do this every day to see if I have luck. My Bluetooth and wifi passing test every time GPS is failing.

Hello everyone,
Ever since I updated my gn8 to Oreo, my GPS broke. GPS doesn't lock and if it does, it will be gone in a few minutes or so. Anyone else experienced this? Any tips on how to fix GPS? Without doing a hard reset of the phone? I'm not rooted by the way, guys. But if you have a solution that requires root, I might root this phone just to prevent a hard reset.
Thanks!
Factory reset ! A good practice after a major update !

Do have a look at my other post on GMaps and GPS. I am sure Oreo broke something with GMaps navigation and GPS. I have tested this extensively and I confirm it is an issue.

You can try a gps fix app from the play store, but if no luck then try a factory reset or flashing stock firmware. If still not working at that point might be a hardware issue. In that case would contact seller, or worst case samsung for warranty repair if possible.
