Ok so I have been away from rooting for a while. One of the main reasons I root is because of ad away
What are some cool things you can do now the phone is rooted
Share here please
You could theme your phone's UI, icons, sounds, and animations, customize certain actions (such as double tapping the status bar to turn off your phone's screen), and uninstall apps that were previously permanently in your phone, since you have access to the system partition.
You can also get Xposed, which has modules that will let you do the stuff I've mentioned and much more.

Oh, my bad, I thought he meant rooting anything in general.
Why no xposed, I thought it was working for lollipop?

First thing I did was get rid of ads, n of course removed system apps

Because Samsung used their own tweaks on ART, and so far Xposed hasn't been made to work with it (possibly never will be either).

First thing I did was the torch mod I posted in this forum (link from the S5 forum, but works perfectly with this model as well). Hate having to unlock the phone to turn on the torch..

Working good on my Captivate.
One concern: How do I take off the "minus" marks on the app icons that lets us delete apps right from the home screen (the screen we get when we click on the home button).
I see this as a security risk. I have app protector pro. But then, we can just delete the app protector pro in this mode without even asking for any password or anything, and all my apps are open for everyone to use.
Could anyone please help me take off this option to quick uninstall apps from home screen.
This thread is a joke, right?

Nope. I am serious. So far I realized that unless a person knew how to mod a Captivate, he didn't know how to access protected apps. But now, even a layman can just delete the 'app protector pro' and access all the apps that are supposed to locked by it.

You do know that once you rooted your phone, anyone with a little knowledge can do much more than simply delete apps... just don't lose your phone or give it to an iphone buddy who might wonder what the neat little thingys on your screen do
Bye. What launched are you using that you see this in.... and deleting an icon from your home screen does not uninstall it on any that I have used

Not the icon. Like when u press the home icon, u can see all the apps present on ur device. For user installed apps, u can see a small "minus" in a circle on the right top of app icon, just like in iphone when u go to edit mode. click on that, and it will uninstall the app.

Pardon me if my concern is not really one. I am just expressing myself.
I use Application Protection from the market. Upon uninstalling any app it always asks for the pin. There is no removing the program without it.

Right, this is as long as the app is there. I am telling about a situation where the protection app itself is removed. I could remove it without it asking me for the pin.

Another possible solution is to install another launcher that dosen't have uninstall in the application tray or doesn't work at this time (my LG Optimus below) and use root explorer to remove the two launcher and reboot.

Others have already pointed this out, but what you need to do is dl and install a different launcher from Market and then uninstall the TWLauncher. Problem solved.
Just because TWLauncher is the default in Cog 2.4.1 doesn't mean that you have to use it. Get another launcher. Or you could try never letting your phone out of your sight...
anyone had any luck getting a screenshot app to work?
i use Button Savior (couldnt live without it) and thought i would assign one of the buttons to generate the snapshot but so far i just get blank screenshots. strang though that the icon button for Button Savior does get captured on screenshot just nothing else.

i have been using Xposed for some time and love it especially Greenify and Wanam. i did setup screenshot with GB and that is really nice that it is right there for any screen with the power menu. i was tired of taking pictures of my watch
Tasker i have been watching since its launch on Play but with limited time between work, kids, electronic addiction i just never spent the time to get into it. your BT auto connect is going to push me into understanding it.

That sounds hilarious, sorry. As far as I saw, the only options for talking were in the extended options of language and input in settings. I'll dig around and see if I can find something. I'll definitely want it disabled myself.
I noticed this today at the worst possible time in a middle of a meeting. Can't find an option to turn it off.
Went through there as well ,unless I'm not checking something correctly... could you check your calculator app and tell me if your having the same problem?
Just got this phone and never messed around with any of thoose kind of settings anyways.

Did you give any app pemissions in accessibility. If you did read this image i attached. When you give some apps permission Samsung has some issues sometimes with the voice kicking on but Samsung actually had a work around built right into the phone.
Have recreated your problem just do the work around which the phone does for you.

This is how I shut off mine. Under Accessibility if you have anything under Services, turn them off. I had Greenify on and it made my calculator talk, but once I shut it off, calculator stopped talking. Hope it helps.
Found this page with people having same issue. Seems like tmobile and att is the pattern. Tmobile here. Greenify not installed. Double checked all my settings too.

You have to click on the settings button thats below whatever app you would have given permission look at my pic i posted you will see the settings listed at the bottom but since you say you didn't do that then there is no workaround. Did you turn on a app you didn't necessarily had to do it in accessibility some apps will just do it automatically. Can you tell me what apps you may have installed that help with battery or after market lockscreen just anything you can think of

NOTE 4
On my phone, it was caused by activating Greenify in the accessibility settings. When I did that, I got a popup telling me that my default language didn't match TTS. It offered me options of canceling, going to settings, or enabling TalkBack. So, for some reason, activating Greenify activates TalkBack. Voila. Talking calculator.
I downloaded Titanium Backup and froze apps
Oh ya, and ad block
Edit: added viper4android, busybox and Greenify. I almost forgot about Greenify! Switched from ADP to AdAway.
Tried Wakelock Detector but it doesn't work Xposed doesn't work either.

Give them some time to look at it. We've only had root for about 24 hours. I'm working on a couple things, like brightness slider removal, volume boost, and hopefully making it so both the WiFi and LTE icons aren't always on at the same time. Should have some of these by this weekend.

It's been an issue with TW lollipop since xposed was released for 5.0. It doesn't look like anyone is working on getting it fixed as far as I can tell. Maybe with root on such a popular device (unlike the S5) we'll see more work on it soon. I hope so.

Hello all,
Back in KitKat (I think), google's default app for phone/contacts had the option to only display contacts with numbers. (great idea!)
For reasons beyond anything I can imagine, they stupidly removed this feature. (Horribly stupid idea...sigh)
Is it possible to run the older phone app/contacts app on newer roms? 7.0?
I like the stock app. Fantastic app, excepting for the horrible stupid decision to break needed functionality by Google.
Thoughts? Options? Ideas?
Thanks!
Just a thought you could find the apk from KitKat and then install that. If it works. Use something like titanium backup and long press on the app from within TB and select remove market link. This should prevent the app from auto updating. Haven't tried it but i agree. The contact with phone numbers only was great.
