[Q] Frozen system_ui.apk on rooted kindle fire hd 7'' - 7" Kindle Fire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a rooted KF hd with titanium backup and a 3rd party home page launcher (smart launcher).
I was fiddling around and derped up by freezing system_ui.apk in /system/app folder and RESTARTED THE KINDLE!!! I don't know what came over me.
Any way, after booting, lock screen came up, and I unlocked to find a blank screen with no GUI elements. I could access a pop-up menu (smart launcher customisation options) by long touching anywhere on the screen, but no GUI.
I have a homemade fastboot cable that works phenomenally, and I have ADB installed, so is there a possibility of unfreezing the system_ui.apk through ADB?
Help will be much appreciated.

???
Is there anyone who could just give me an idea of whether or not this is possible, at least?
Please?

Broken Keyboard Settings, Please Help!!

Well after trying to install slide it on my Nook the settings button in Nook settings for keyboard no longer works. It just flashes me to home page. Looking for ways to restore the settings if possible. Also i cannot place anything on desktop when long pressing and going into short cuts. Same deal just flashes back to default home screen. Please Help!!
1.) Download & install NookColor Tools, available in these forums. There are enhanced keyboard settings. If that doesn't work, then try "Keyboard Manager", also available in threads here. If neither of those work, restore your LatinIME.apk file (if you backed it up), or download the original LatinIME.apk from threads here, place it in /system/app w/correct permissions, and reboot.
2.) The way to get apps on the desktop is longpress on the app FROM THE APP DRAWER and after a few seconds, you automatically are brought back to the desktop, with the app icon in context to move wherever you want on the desktop. using the method you tried doesn't work.
Thanks so much not only did i get the settings fixed but i now have slide it installed too. It's nice to be able to side load apps now too
easier way
i also had the same problem until i accidentally figguered it out:
when you have the keyboard on the screen, simply hold on the special characters switcher button (the very down left) and a pop up will show up with the shortcut to working settings.

Basic Apps for Rooted Nook Touch

Hi All,
Rooting the nook touch is very easy, much easier than most android phones I've rooted. However, getting it to be a functional tablet requires hunting down a pair of (freeware) APKs, which I had some trouble finding at first. So here they are, hopefully saving others some time. They should be installed via adb. Attached are:
Zeam: Lightweight launcher/homescreen app. For preferences, I recommend disabling "elastic scrolling" and "scroll wallpaper", increasing the rows/columns of icons, and setting the dock background to solid black.
Softkeys: This gives you an on screen button providing access to home/menu/back keys. Without this, once you enter the B&N software (home/library/reader), there is no way to go back to Zeam or other apps (if this happens before you install SoftKeys, just reboot to get back to Zeam). You will need to install su and superuser for this to work (reboot once when done). You can drag the on screen button anywhere you want, but I suggest making it small and putting it in the extreme lower left, where it does not block reading. Set the virtual home button action to launch Zeam.
Everything else you need should be in the Amazon App Store, although you need to enable non-market installs for it to work. Some other recommended apps are Opera Mobile, Pulse (disable flash and all animations), and Kindle.
Enjoy your new eInk android tablet!
How do I give soft keys superuser access? I went through the superuser install above, but it still says it doesnt have superuser access

thankful for vlingo or any "personal assistant" app

i did a noob mistake when messing around with titanium backup.
i froze TW launcher thinking i had another launcher enabled. i wanted to disable as much running apps to keep the phone from having too many process running. after i had to awake the screen, i wasnt able to access my home screen no matter what i tried. no bottom buttons were working. i couldnt press and hold home button to launch recently used menu. i even tried to reflash the rom/theme without wiping the system and the launcher is still frozen.
good thing i had widgetlocker with ICS slider theme. i had set swipe down to open vlingo in car shortcut. i asked it to open titanium backup and it worked! i was able to unfreeze the launcher without doing a wipe.
thought i posted this to give someone a heads up on a work around if they did something stupid like me.

[Q] I can't get back to default carousel

Hi, this is my first post because I'm pretty frustrated. I have a rooted Kindle Fire HD 7". I rooted it many months ago and I use Go Launcher EX, everything worked perfectly fine and I could easily read books by pressing the kindle home button.
But now when I try to go to the carousel the screen is dark grey, then blinks as if something was going to show up, but then it goes grey again. I press the home icon and it's back to normal.
Does anyone have this same problem or know how I can fix this? Thanks!

[Q] Nook HD CM11 - How to remove shortcuts from home screen?

Hi,
Recently upgraded my Nook HD from CM10.2.1 to CM11 M6 by wiping and doing clean install along with gapps. Everything works fine except I do not know how to remove shortcuts from the home screen.
Previously, I used to long press on the shortcut and drag it onto the X in the top left corner of the home screen (I could also do the same to uninstall apps). I am unable to do this in CM11 M6 as the X is not there.
What is the process for removing shortcuts from the home screen? (Is there some documentation I can refer to that covers changes to the UI? I have looked at the wiki on the CM site but can't find anything that covers this)
Thanks in advance for any help.
To answer my own query,
This appears to be a bug in CM11 M6. When my screen is locked in landscape orientation, the remove and app info elements are not visible/useable. Switch orientation to Portrait and the remove and app info elements appear and are useable.
