Hi all,
Looked around for a fix but couldn't find any so I've come here. I recently had my xperia z stolen but have a backup on a separate SD card. I've switched over to LG G3 but I want to get the data on to my phone. (just pictures and music). unfortunately, all of the pictures and videos are unreadable directly off of the card when I connect it to my computer and I was wondering if there was a way to get them back?
Don't have Internet right now, on data on my phone and haven't been able to get a desktop app for the xperia.
If anyone can help that would be great!
Much appreciated.

I am afraid you have skipped alot of details.
Which application you used to backup your data? Explain a bit how you did it exactly with that tool.
Did you encrypt your phone as well ?

Just used the Sony Xperia Z built in backup. Standard full backup to the SD card.
Don't think i did any sort of encryption unless that does it for you.
Thanks.

I am afraid you will need an XPERIA to retrieve your backup. Ask a friend or someone you trust and try it.

I'm eligeble fir a new phone and am going to get one this weekend. I'm rooted and have cyanogenmod on it. In anyone's experience will this cause complications when switching phones? Because even though I don't want to as a last resort I could jump back to stock rom and all but I really don't want to do that. Or am I just freaking out and they'll transfer the data effortlessly and it doesn't matter I've got a different rom and its rooted. Thanks.
What data do you want them to transfer? Your contacts are probably linked to your google account. Only thin would be anything on your sdcard, which you can just copy to your new sdcard yourself.

You're right..I think the only thing would be transferring the phone number from the old to the new. I don't know if that would make a rooted phone a difference.
Nope. It should work out fine.
Hello everyone,
i'm a happy (?) owner of an Ativ S, the phone is GDR3 and fully unlocked.
I'm pretty satisfied other then for continous storage problems. My system has grown to almost 10GB now!!! Temp folder is pretty normal and under control
around 500mb... I don't want to believe that the only way to solve is to hard reset. Any good backup options to suggest if i got no choice pls?
My thought is that somehow youtube stored video cache somewhere in system folders because it grew everytime i watched a video.
Thanks
That's possible, yeah. Have you tried my Storage Cleanup app yet? The current version doesn't support cleaning up app storage, although I plan to add that "soon".

Yes, i tried but it only found 300mb of deletable stuff.
So if i format the phone and then Watch a couple of YT vids it Will fill up again?
Guess i Will need a good backup Solution.
Well, you could always just try deleting the YT app. That will free all the storage it is using. You can re-install it afterward (you'll probably need to re-enter your account details or whatever, but that's it).
I already did that and nothing changed, stord Memory management is awful on wp8.
I'm so upset, instead of enjoy the phone i have to lose time finding the way to male it work.
The formating is not in issue per se, the problem is Will it fullfil again and again and again?
I just soft formatted the phone, think i lost unlock and since is GDR3 i'd have to downgrade it and stuff to get the unlock again?

Try setting the date to anything over 30 years from now (2044+). Let the phone sit for at least 20 minutes, then check your storage and change back to "Set Automatically". I did this and got my temp files down to almost nothing. It may work for system files as well. Its worth a shot and a lot easier than a reset.
Let us know.
Hi, all. Ok, so since my november I have been waiting for Z3 compact root and great news of recent.
Since november, I have only used my phone just to make calls, after a major balls up when I flashed a firmware via flashtool without backing up. And even though technically, it should not have not wiped my data, it did.
I had some very precious and sentimental wedding images and 3 4k videos on the internal memory. (didn't have a sd card at that time) So, did not want to overwrite any new data.
Today, after rooting, I could use undelete type software with root access to recover my images. After all the waiting non of the *Top* apps worked!! wth. So, disappointed, some of u may laugh.
Anybody got any suggestions please. Any quality pro style apps, like used for PC recovery. Recovery on a low level perhaps (if possible)
I tried diskdigger, undeleter, recuva, hexamob, wondershare.
Please, anybody
Thanks for reading

Sorry, but you won't get them back...
That's why I try to get pictures saved to my laptop as soon as I'm home, regardless of all this automatic cloud saving.
Edit:
And: saving to ext sd or finding an option in an app to do so first place.

Habit ?
Was in a similar situation when I had to put one of our dogs to final sleep. Very nice and emotional pictures, I lost them due to flashing the next or other days. The wife saved them with her own, real camera. That's what always reminds me to save important pictures.
Anybody else. I waited a long while to not use my phone after my mess up. There has got to be a way to retrieve data off my phone even if I have flashed it.
I'm sure forensic experts could find such images etc.
PC data can be recovered even after so many wipes, there must me someone here with some expertise?
Please can someone help?

Thats too bad . But I see on TV shows all the time, using sophisticated software to recover data all the time. I'm sure this is possible somehow. My photo's are very very important to get back.
I always hear that PC HDD and phones people sell are very easy to find the data from.
People do not know that they are not always fully wiped.
Hook your phone up to your PC and try the several programs for the PC available for android internal storage restoration, just google a bit you will find tutorials and what not.
If you have not overwritten the files they might still be there. If you overwrote them i fear they are lost.

well, yes,PC data can find back easily, but if the data was covered by new data,it is hard to find back either on PC or phones
if your phone haven't cover new data, then i could say good luck to you and wish you find someway
I don't know if you can recover those files at home, but maybe guys like http://www.krollontrack.co.uk can do it.
It probably won't be cheap though.
Good morning everyone. I have been on these forums for awhile but couldn't remember my username.
Anyway, I have a Note 9 and yesterday was Christmas of course. I had recorded a video of my son opening his presents. He got a hold of the phone and deleted the video by accidentally. There is no backup of it. Phone is newer and backup wasn't set up yet.
Is there ANY way of recovering the deleted video? I have tried DiscDigger but it requires Root to recover deleted videos. And with my understanding there is no root for the Note 9? All help is appreciated as I feel terrible that we didn't take any pictures of him opening and now the only video is gone.
Thank you!
o6blin,
You are correct, there is no root & your video is gone.
Try to recapture that moment by giving him another package to open.
There is alot we cant do yet because of permissions.
Trust me, there are a ton of things that I can't do because of permissions.
Root would be perfect and we would be able to do what we want to do & how we want to do it without any resistance from the manufactures.
If root was discovered or released, this would be much of a better community with so much involvement from developers, app makers, theme bakers & such.
o6blin you are better off with a pure android so that you will never be in a situation as such or use the screen lock.
Regards,
There are programs that say they recover, ranging from $30-$59, videos without root. I've found a few, not many, people that say they work but not a convincing amount. I'm willing to spend that on memories. Any input?
Thanks for your help.

if it on ext sd yeah probably very easy to do.( just put sd card and a card reader and plug in a pc and use Recuva software)
if video was on internal storage, good luck.
btw stop using the camera or writing data because the more you wait the less chances of recovery is possible.
be careful that you aren't paying 50$ for someone to steal your phone.( they will probably ask you to send the phone and give your credentials or something.)
It was in internal storage yes. I've stopped using the phone for pictures and believe I found the video in the my files/cache but it is unopenable.
I know it's too late for this video, but I would send all pics and video to external SD card and turn on Google Photos backup settings.
can it be read by some recovering programs on pc when connecting yr phone to the pc ?

Try and download ES file explorer and it will give access to recycle bin, as long as you turn recycle bin on.
Sent from my SM-N960F using Tapatalk
If you haven't written anything new onto your device yet. There is still a chance that you can recover that video. You would have to connect your device to a computer and run data recovery software on it. However if you have used your device since you have deleted your video. There is a chance that you won't be able to recover it as you may have partially or full written over the sections of the internal storage space it was stored on.
This is the exact reason why I always install dumpster on all my phones.
Check the play store an install it ... most likely u have lost the video but all other deleted will be saved in dumpster.

Give Samsung stars a call. I spoke to them a while back fixing a problem and he said he had helped another customer recover some photos that they had deleted by accident. Is worth a try
Possibly..
Connect your phone to a pc and allow data transfer. The phone now shows up in the explorer as mass storage. Maybe a recovery tool is able to recover some photos from the storage. Hope this works.
If you are a pie beta tester there is a recycle bin feature in the gallery app.

I have encountered a two year (?) Android lock screen glitch on the 10 Pro. I enter the correct pin and it takes it as incorrect. Now, I am locked out for 24 hours at a time. There's no allowance for me to use face unlock or finger print unlock. Encountered the glitch shortly after coming back from a vacation where I have captured 150+ GB of media chronicling my family and I. I cannot afford to lose these pictures and videos so looking for any help in getting my data off/phone unlocked. OnePlus official tech support is horrible and Google has no support on this. It's pretty crappy so looking for a needle in the haystack. Been stuck for two months and a friend recommended this site!
Use a data recovery specialist that has worked with that brand before successfully. That's your best shot if really need the data.
I never use screen locks or set bios passwords, you see why now. You are the one most likely to be locked out sometimes through no fault of your own. Redundantly and regularly backup critical data. NEVER encrypt data drives.
Having expandable storage helps too if you use the SD card as an unencrypted data drive. I also use two 500gb OTG flashsticks for "dirty" backups, main backups are on hdds.
All you can do sometimes is to learn from your mistakes... and not repeat them.

Could maybe try resetting system, that'll leave your storage intact?
May be a Fastboot command to kill the kitchen but I'm not sure,, there used to be a file you can delete from twrp but we unfortunately don't have a custom recovery yet.
In future, install the mod I offered in another thread that allows unlimited Google photos backup..
Have you checked your Google photos to see if anything was backed up?

Google Photos is the home for all your photos and videos, automatically organized and easy to share.

Hey Blackhawk and dladz. Thanks for the advice! Will attempt to find a data recovery specialist. Thanks for suggesting this as there seems to be some hope that data recovery is doable for a locked phone!
Unfortunately, nothing is backed up to Google photos. It happened just after my trip and I didn't get the chance to back up. Surely in the future,I will not use a password.
If I can't get the data off, is there any possible chance to file a lawsuit against Google?

A lawsuit against Google? You'd have a hard time buddy...it'll be challenging to get the data from a locked phone..
What about connecting your phone to WiFi whilst it's locked and seeing if Google photos syncs and backs up?
Have you checked if photos has been syncing? It'll do it automatically if you've ever accessed and advised the app to back up automatically

A OTG .5tb flashstick or two could have backed them up. Too much backup is a good thing.
Less Google is good. I use Gmail and that's it for anything that's cloud based.

That's a shame man, when you do get it set up...install the Google photos mod I uploaded and you can back up with no limits..
Doesn't help this situation but food for thought.
The sim lock glitch is a great shout and can be accessed from any phone usually. May need to pop it in another.. there could be a default one so Google your current provider incase there's a default code.

phone lock and sim lock are two completely different things. you'll need a second phone and someone else's sim. you can use google to find out how.
try just popping out your sim, restart, and see if you can get in
Thanks for the help! The SIM card is already out (tried this at the beginning). So I'll do what you said about using someone else's sim! Will let you all know the results after work.
I have tried the SIM glitch, but alas it didn't unlock will have to try to find a specialist. Any programs that can unlock phones?
