Since we've only had our tablets for a short time, I might be a little premature in asking but has anyone used any of these USB keyboards with the N7? If so, if the tablet is placed on the stand in portrait mode, does the cable reach the USB port? I assume they're not full-travel keys but do people find them ok for touch typing? Do any of them suck the battery or are they usable for hours at a time?
Does anyone have any recommendations for better keyboards?

Not trying to burst your bubble, but i don't think any of those will work with N7. When getting keyboards, I would go for name brand items because you don't want a laggy keyboard. If I were you I would get one of the following:
http://www.amazon.com/Targus-Univer...768&sr=8-12&keywords=bluetooth+keyboard+stand
(This is what i purchased ---->) http://www.amazon.com/ZAGG-FOLZKFLE...183895&sr=1-1-catcorr&keywords=zagg+keys+flex
(There's a review on this keyboard on this forum. You can get this on eBay for $30) http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Tabl...5&sr=1-2&keywords=logitech+bluetooth+keyboard
I hope i helped. The problem with cheap keyboard cases is that a lot of times they don't work. Sometimes you get what you pay for.

I think the cases he linked actually would work -- I have one that looks identical, and is indeed functional, though the Nexus tends to slide out the sides of the case.
However, I think you are right; you DO get what you pay for. The keys are bit mushy and so on, the case is huge, etc. Hey, for the price, it might be worth it, though I wouldn't recommend it. I don't have any regrets either, though.
Have a few questions on keyboards I hope someone can help with.
On the Logitech Tablet Keyboard for Android. Logitech's website is quite clear that the iPad version is incompatible with the Android version. Has anyone tried? The Android one isn't too easy to get in the UK (well not reasonably priced) but the iPad one is.
Any first hand experience of the Logitech versus the Motorola Xoom keyboard? I like the Logitech case/stand thingy but past that both keyboards are the same size so which is better?
And back to the Logitech, any recommended UK suppliers?

I'm in the same boat - was looking to get an Asus Pad Infinity upon release, but tempted by the Nexus 7 + Logitech combo instead.
Now I'd just need to secure the keyboard in the UK and I'm good to go...!

I ideally want a keyboard/case combo but everything seems to have too small a keyboard for my liking (I put it down to the size of the Nexus 7). I have seen the Logitech stuff mentioned a few times and I am interested in it although I haven't found anything online. I've been using Logitech computer accessories for years (mouse/keyboard/speakers etc) and I'm always impressed with the build quality and performance. I have an unfortunate habit of not buying cheaper accessories as now I can afford better products and I have experienced the "buy cheap, buy twice" too many times to warrant shelling out £15-£20 on a case that doesn't fit properly or has sub standard build quality. After all, I'm going to be putting a £200 tablet in it.

I would guess none of the keyboards the OP linked would cause any lag at all, since they are all attached to the tablet via USB/OTB
the ones that you link are bluetooth keyboards, which vary in performance greatly.
(The OP here...)
I'd go with the Logitech if there wasn't any lag. I expect a powered BT keyboard would use less of the N7's battery than a USB one. And though the BT keyboard's battery would only last a few hours, I'm sure that would suffice for my use case.
I'd be surprised if Logitech don't bring this keyboard to the UK. They'd miss a lot of sales, IMO.

actually, they all work. ive got one of them, and it works fine.
pretty much any usb keyboard will work. my thermaltake meka g unit with its cherry black mechanical switches works fine, as does my ducky shine with cherry red mechanical switches and full led backlit powered from the nexus 7 via usb. no notable lag, they all work as expected.
You don't have to buy a keyboard case to get a nice USB keyboard for the tablet. Just about any USB keyboard will work fine as long as you have a USB OTG cable.
That said I also have the Logitech Bluetooth keyboard, and it's one of the best slim keyboards, tablet or otherwise, that I have used. I haven't seen any lag so far, though if you sit really far away from the tablet I suppose you could introduce some signal issues. Usually if your keyboard is lagging, it's either a software issue or the batteries are going dead.
The Logitech keyboard seems pretty nice, but isn't it a bit large for pairing with a 7" tab?

You wouldn't want a 7" keyboard to go with it, trust me. It does look a little awkward at first to have the keyboard wider than the tablet in landscape, but no more awkward than the promotional photos of the iPad and its portrait keyboard dock.
I used to have an Asus TF101, and even as a 10" tab the keyboard dock was really cramped, and the keys were about 10% smaller than normal so that they would fit. With the Logitech keyboard you get full size keys, so it feels more natural to type on.

Yeah, a 7" keyboard would probably be too small to be useful. The Zagg keyboard though looks like it might be a nice compromise. I'm leaning towards that one, as it seems small enough to stick into a large pocket and to fit on, say, an airplane tray table if needed, but big enough that you could type on it for a little while before it got uncomfortable. How portable would you say the Logitech one is?

I'd say it's portable enough for most people. It's about the same dimensions as the Zagg keyboard. If you have a full size keyboard somewhere nearby, you can do a good comparison by just measuring the width from the left edge of the left Shift key to the right edge of the right Shift key. That's how wide the Logitech keyboard is, and it's about the same height from the bottom of the space bar to the top of the Function keys on standard keyboards.
Has anyone come across a keyboard case that would work well for lap use when sitting on the couch or in a recliner? I frequently like to write code from the couch, and I would like to do that with my Nexus instead of dragging out a laptop.
This is what I use for that, tho it's not a case.
http://www.amazon.com/Rocketfish-PadPivot-Anywhere-Stand-Tablets/dp/B006FTDP3O
Just to follow up on this... I ended up purchasing the Logitech keyboard case (made by Zagg) for the Galaxy Note 10.1. The Nexus fits in the slot on the keyboard case perfectly. It does not fit face down as a case, as to be expected, but I knew that prior to purchasing. I'm sitting here typing at a pretty normal speed sitting on my couch. The tablet is quite secure, no worry of it sliding out of the case as I move around. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking to use their Nexus 10 like a laptop on their lap. Hopefully Logitech makes this model for the Nexus, then it would double as a case as well.
Sony's car dock is a joke - it's a generic dock for all their phones, may as well just buy some equally crappy thing off ebay for a pittance.
I'm looking for a proper dock with charging and audio-out built in. Having to plug and unplug USB and headphone jacks every time you dock and undock your phone is ridiculous. In fact, I don't know if I can commit to buying the Xperia Z without one.
Yes I am with you need a car dock with charger.

Wonder if you could take the desktop cradle, glue it onto your dash, then re solder some wires to get the car plug 12v... Seriously, it might be a way if Sony doesn't release one
I've considered modding the desk dock, would also require adding some sort of clip to hold it through bumps/whatever. Far from ideal though, and a fair bit of effort I'd prefer not to go to... :-/

Yeah, they're better than nothing I guess, but they always seem to use power cords that are moulded into the unit, and none of their stuff supports audio out.
Take a look at Samsung's car docks for their flagship phones as an example of how to do it right - microUSB input for charging (means you can take your power from whatever source you like, useful for eliminating ground loops), and a 3.5mm phono socket in case you want to connect to an AUX port on your head unit (because BT sucks).
EDIT: Oh, and particularly for the Xperia Z, a car mount that uses the dock connector - rather than USB - is extremely useful, because otherwise you've got to fiddle around opening the USB socket cover to connect a charger.

They seem to be stopping their good work though, all they seem to have for the s3/note 2 is a universal passive dock. The way they did it for the galaxy s 2 (i9100 version at least) was how all manufacturers should, best car dock I've owned by far.
I have a Motorola Atrix and the official car dock. It work like a charm and you can even remove a bracket to fit a cased phone in it. Now my Atrix is dead so yeah ...
Wondering why manufacturers don't all just release official docks.
any news here? Still no official dock, afaik, so has anyone heard of a third party dock for the z?
Bump

The idea of modding a normal dock could be a good idea if a oem one doesn't surface.
From the pictures I've seen the desk dock takes a Micro USB input so wouldn't be that difficult to mod.
Brodit bracket to fix it to the car interior, NFC tag on the dock to toggle BT, screen brightness, volume up etc. Not sure quite how you'd get the phone to stay in the dock though, particularly portrait.
Hi-tech elastic band?
I suppose Brodit will release a holder for the Xperia Z similar to the one for the Xperia V. It will use the dock power connectors on the side.
I just wished they allow any micro-USB cable to the holder, not having their own soldered cable.

They swivel, you can put them in landscape, although they're most comfortable in landscape usually.
As others have said though, it's a shame they use soldered/molded cables, rather than allowing microusb.
hi,
Looking to purchase a wireless keyboard from the US and was wondering if you guys could recomend any.

I use a keyboard when I have to work remotely on my tablet. This is the one I use: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BKW2410/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1. The build quality is superb, and the small size makes for good portability. It doesn't have a slot to stand the tablet in though. However, that's fine with me because I don't need one, as my Poetic Slimline case stands up my N10 nicely.
I use this keyboard:

both work great with the Nexus 10, and the keyboard cover turns into a tablet stand
Do both Bluetooth devices work properly at the same time?

Once in a while , keyboard input stalls for a second to two, but catches right up. Annoying, but bearable to me.
I am using Logitech K400 keyboard with built-In touchpad mouse and it work great.
I just started using a Bluetooth Perixx Perrido-880 with built in track pad and stand and which works very well with my N10. It is cheaper than other solutions around $50 Canadian on Amazon.ca with free shipping. Although a number of the function keys only work with Win 8 tablets I keep discovering things that work which I never expected due to the limited user manual. For example ALT-Tab to move between apps or two finger scrolling on the track pad. It also integrates well with Swift-key which automatically used the keyboard including support for auto-spell correction and word completion when you hit the space bar.
The origami stand/cover can be flipped backwards so props up the keyboard when I'm in a recliner (on my legs), that was unexpected. I already have my N10 being held in a DIY airholder so balcony tablet productivity fits lazy summer reclining.
My goal is to see if I can program remotely from the balcony. I'm starting with VNC to my Linux desktop, Jotta+ Pro (programming editor) but still need to refine the set up as I only got the keyboard 2 days ago. At this point I'm very pleased with the keyboard / track pad combo.

thanks finally bought this keyboard
Do the newer model keyboards still make the dock loose or commonly have that disconnection problem that I have been hearing about before with the older version?

Supposedly they are better now. I've heard a couple of particularly good reports regarding the 2014.04 tablets/docks.
I was not confident on getting the dock.
I probably should have and still might get it. Its probably the way to go. Especially if theres hope of running linux on this thing soon.
I dont know can run linux without a connected keyboard?
For a tight budget I got this bluetooth keyboard instead.
http://www.aziocorp.com/en/keyboards/13-backlit-bluetooth-tablet-keyboard.html
Plastic like not very strong and not made for "The Hulk" but itll do for now.
Just got the 2014.04 dock. No problems so far! [emoji106][emoji106][emoji106]
TF701 / TF700 / NEXUS 7 (2013)
The problem is due to the dock being to wide and the connection is sloppy.
to fix, slap some thick 3M adhesive tape on the front and back. One on
the front and double thick on back worked well for me. I guess that I thickend
my tablet by about 60 thousands.
