[Q] Random Reboots - Motorola Droid 4

My Droid4 just started acting up with random reboots. Stock ROM. Android 4.1.2. Rooted. I don't autoupdate apps and I uninstalled the last 2 apps that I updated, even though they were updated at least 2-3 weeks before having this issue. Happens more often when starting Waze or a media player (TuneIn Radio, IHeartRadio).
Looked at the catlog (attached) but really not sure what to look for. I prefer not to do a factory reset and restore (Titanium Backup). Any assistance is appreciated.
Also, If I have to do a factory reset, I may consider a custom ROM, but, HDMI must work properly as I'm running ARUR (AppRadio Unloaded Relaunched) with my Pioneer AppRadio 3.

Froyo instability?

So I love froyo and for the past week that I've had it (via ota) it has been really great, but today I began having these sudden problems:
I can't install certain apps (market or sideloaded), even though I have plenty of room for them.
Random apps that are normally stable just crash out of the blue.
The phone just keeps slowing down and things are taking longer than they should for both 2.1 and 2.2.
The phone crashed today, meaning it decided to reboot on its own accord, once when I was running a few apps at once (something that I do almost every time I pick up the phone) and was switching between them, the second time was when I had some background processes and I was browsing the web.
I was just wondering if anyone else was experiencing these problems, and if you are did it just happen suddenly one day like me or was it from the beginning? I also want to know if anyone has suggestions or a diagnosis that I should consider before emailing google.
Thanks for all the help,
Liam
Try resetting the phone to Factory (Settings-Privacy). Or if you're rooted...Wipe.

Does that wipe apps, settings and all other data, and is there a way to get it all back?

All applications force closing after reset (switching batteries)

Ok this has happened to me twice now, after turning off my phone and switching batteries every applications except for stock ones will continually force close. I am using Voodoo lagfix on JM1 official so unsure if this is causing it. I am able to fix applications by running titanium backup and restoring the apps but this becomes tedious with the free version and I'm having issues with paypal donating for the paid version.
Has this happened to anyone else? I'm thinking maybe the issue is that I pull the battery out a second too soon and it somehow corrupts the data.
Same problem here with a i9000b 2.2.1 Kernel 2.6.32.9
When I switch between the original and spare batteries, the first confg screen comes out (language and first options). Most not-stock apps forcing close and google maps also not working.
I've had to the factory reset twice, so i decided to do experiences. I switched many times, with and without "no stock apps" installed; after 1 munute off; just after the screen out and without switching off at all. The funny thing is that I had no problems these times, except the config screen coming when I didn't switch off before switching (but apps didn't force closing).
It seams to me that the bug happens when memory is quite full or you have made some more configurations. I will try to continue my normal use and see what happens if I switch spare-original battery again.
this same thing happened to me, but i use launcher pro so can't do anything and clockworkmod is not in the recovery anymore so i can't restore to a previous configuration. WTF? anybody have a fix for this?

Problem - Apps dissapeared, settings reverting to default.

Let's start with some basic information. I am running not rooted stock Froyo 2.2.1, Baseband version I9000XXJPY, Kernel version 2.6.32.9 [email protected] #1, Build number FROYO.XXJPY. Using stock TW Launcher.
In the morning I've moved couple of apps to SD card. Few hours later my battery went flat and the phone turned off. I've replaced the battery with a fully charged one and the phone was booting quite a while and when it finished it started with locale setting screen. At the same time several apps started to force close unexpectedly. When I went through all the initial settings the wallpaper was the same, icons and widget layout was the same. There were many apps missing (I reckon all of them were installed on the SD card). Many apps that remained were either force closing just after starting or had the settings reverted to defaults.
Some examples:
- Android Agenda widget was in its place but settings missing.
- I've reinstalled TwittCaster and moved to Phone - although it looks like the data/settings are being wiped after every phone restart and I need to put my login details every time.
It looks like many of the apps are reverting settings to default every time I restart the phone.
Both my external and internal cards seems fine, I can access and open files (e.g. photos and music) on them.
When I was trying to install some apps from the Market I was getting error messages that the app cannot be installed in the chosen destination, or there is not enough space. But after few tries I've managed to install them. As far as I know there should be quite a lot of available space.
I've tried to unmount/mount external card, take it out and in again. I've formatted cache partition from recovery mode. I've tried to clear RAM with Task Manager.
I would be grateful if someone could help me to diagnose the reason behind all this, help me to fix it and prevent it from happening in future. I really want to understand the problem and the trigger so I can avoid similar problems in the future
I will appreciate any help.
Thanks!
Sorry to bump, but this is really driving me mad.
It appears that I need to reinstall every app as they all closing unexpectedly on starting. after I reinstall them they loosing settings every time I restart the phone. Is it an external or internal card issue or maybe internal memory? Please help!
I have also noticed that Android Market is quite slow on me. Muc, much slower then before it ask happened.

sounds like hardware failure to me. Its back to factory and exhibiting problems. Why not take it back and have it replaced/fixed?

Strange problem this...
I guess format, reflash and clean install of apps would be a better option... instead of just re-installing apps...
I just wish to avoid sending it for a repair. This is a new replacement I get several days ago from Samsung, for which I was fighting for 4 months.
Anyway I will try to format and reset everything and build everything up from scratch. But if only I could understand how and why it happened maybe I would be able to prevent it from happening in the future.
Is there a special way I can format sd cards before installing and moving apis there?

Droid4 Stock ICS Bugs

All,
We don't have an ICS Bugs thread going on. I wanted to check with some of the people here on XDA to see if they are experiencing what I am. Currently on .213, but most of these bugs I've seen since the begining. Oh, I'm also in Canada running on 3G HSPA+. I'm stock, but rooted with safestrap installed.
1) When placing a phone call, the phone hangs up immediately (you here the disconnected beep), then retries the phone call a few seconds later (it always succeeds). I have tried this on a freshly wiped phone and found the same experience. I have also tried disabling the Assisted Dialing, but have found ikt's the same thing
2) When using Google Chrome, if there is a input box, most of the time my keyboard won't appear (I'm using Swype as my default keyboard)
3) Phone runs hot sometimes, and when it's running hot it slows down to a halt. Usually happens after a day or two without a restart
4) My photo doesn't appear in the text messaging app (worked in AOKP/CM9 on my D3, as well as it works on my gf's Nexus S)
The only bug I noticed was that it initially booted up in global mode, and wouldn't connect to 4G/CDMA. Switching it to CDM+LTE fixed the issue and I haven't seen a bug since (213).:good:

Is your chrome working properly? Specifically the bug I mentioned in the OP...?
I didn't comment on that because I use Opera
Just tried the Chrome Beta now just to see, and I can confirm I am seeing the same behavior. I use Swiftkey, so it isn't a Swype-specific bug either.
What exactly is the difference between Chrome and the built-in browser? Aren't they both Webkit-based? Why is Google bothering to work on both?

Chrome is way faster at many things since it users hardware acceleration for video. Does text input work properly on opera?
Sent from my XT894 running ICS
I'm in the US also running .213
I haven't noticed any bugs, its working fine for me. I do not use chrome beta so I can't comment on that. The stock is not too bad, I don't use it much anyways.

Text entry works fine in both the stock browser and Opera. BTW, Opera also has hardware acceleration, which is why it never worked in any of the Frankbuilds of ICS based off the GB kernel ... So you can have your teh snappy and type with it too
I'm on the 212 build and i can't screencap using power + volume down.
Is this fixed in 213 or am i just doing it wrong?
Also on 212 i can't control the default google music app or winamp from my bluetooth headset when the screen is off. I could do this before with the same version of the winamp app when i was back on gingerbread. I tried upgrading winamp, but that did nothing. Is there any change in 213?
Thanks ahead of time
Edit: just tried it and the volume down + power combo worked. Lol
One question, possible thought to ponder.
Are the bugs being described here really bugs of Android 4 or are they bugs in the individual app itself not being fully compatible with Android 4 yet?
Do similar bugs happen on a non-motorola device with android 4?
I'm considering flashing one of the leaks, so I'm trying to understand how you are sure these are ics bugs before I make the leap and run into issues.
Thanks.
Apologies if this constitutes hijacking the thread, if it does let me know and I"ll edit it to delete the question.
I was able to figure out bug #4, I had to login with my Google+ account again, since the update yesterday everything seems to be working fine.
Bugs 1 through 3 still exist, although I've switched off Global mode for now and put it to GSM only, it seems like the phone runs a lot cooler in this mode.
Even after updating Chrome to the final version, I'm still experiencing that text input bug. Maybe it's a Motorola issue... Can't wait for the next version of the leak!
I have tasker reboot my phone every morning at 6am. The phone doesn't need to be rebooted every day, but it ensures that it is fresh and ready to go every morning
Nothing more annoying than trying to do something with your phone and having to reboot it because it is slow for whatever reason.

for this reason I think there will be other leaks, ICS is supposed to handle killing processes much better than GB, however the settings seem to not be aggressive enough in 213.
Probably there will be, though I likely won't update again for a while. Don't feel like losing all that data...

You could just do what I do: once you have root install safestrap and then take a backup of your phone before flashing the upgrade.
Once you're all done upgrading, re-root and re-install safestrap, then do an advanced restore and only restore the data. Voilla, all your apps are back.

I don't know, just had a random reboot after watching a youtube video in firefox, most likely memory related, not sure who's fault though, Motorola or Firefox. gotta root and use system tuner to change memory mgmt states.

That is a great idea. Though there hasn't been another leak since 213, so
Notification Bar Sticking/Wont Pull Down
I am on 212 currently, and I have noticed in 208 and 212 something that has happened only twice so far. Today, I just tried to check my notifications, and the bar will not pull down.
After a reboot it works fine, and it has only happened 2 times in the past couple weeks since the leaks first appeared.
Obviously it is a minor glitch, but just thought I'd throw it out there in case anyone else has seen it and overlooked it. :cyclops:

I have heard of a few others using this method successfully. If you are not using safestrap or just don't want to go this route take a look at the post link in my signature. It's a modified version of the original Droid 4 Utility and includes a script to jump from one ICS leak to another without losing data. It also flashes the GB files and the Kernel (boot.img) in one script, thus making it easier to go from one leak to another.
Regarding bugs, my wife got a razr yesterday. It wouldn't pull down the ICS update, so I just sideloaded it. We both run some of the same apps. So this gave me a chance to do side by side comparisons. The issue with some of the icons being small in the left top of the status seems to be a app issue. The chrome issue isn't present on the razr, of course there isn't a physical keyboard. Otherwise my 213 ICS seems to run great.
I found a new bug, it looks like GSM call forwarding doesn't work properly... at least it doesn't with my SIM card, I'm on Rogers in Canada.
Does Verizon support call forwarding? Does it work on there?
I have noticed in Chrome that pressing shift and then one of the symbol keys (like @) will only work if you hold the shift key.
More importantly I don't get notifications of app updates from google play. Check to see if you have any apps that need updating. Superuser had a update on July 1, dropbox yesterday and voodoo rootkeeper on June 28, I think. Anyone else?

Question S21 Ultra started to lag and stutter since yesterday out of NOWHERE!! tried everything but still there?

hey so my s21 ultra which was working normal until yesterday started to lag out of nowhere ... the only thing that i did different in these 2days was gaming with my new clip on xbox controller and testing different games ,
I didn't install anything new EXCEPT that octopus key mapper and then Mantis gamepad pro but i didn't really set them up EXCEPT i just tried connecting my s21 ultra to my note 8 via usb c just to test if it worked but then note 8 ran out of battery like crazy...
It just looks like that app did it but i uninstalled all of them but still it is there...
any help? i don't want to reset anything !
Clear system cache.
Try in safe mode.
See which system apps are the most active, delete their data.
A user hidden setting may have been altered by a poorly written app, a possible rootkit etc or a hardware failure.
Factory reset if you can't find it soon.
does it lag in safe mode?
submit an error report on samsung members app > + button > error report if you think it's a software issue

That last line will make things difficult.
That would be the most foolproof software solution for a non rooted phone IMO. If you reconsider, I'd suggest a full hard reset.

Hard reboot or factory reset?
A hard reboot is fine. However a hardware issue may be present if this is needed.
Factory reset; it's always preferable to find and correct the root cause rather than doing a factory reset as the issue is likely to reoccur.
Exceptions; unremovable malware, rootkits, major firmware updates, old loads and altered hidden user settings.
I have the same problem, some video on gallery or YouTube, system crash, dji mini 2 app...no display, some apps crashes, android auto heating up the phone....

Backup all critical data now.
Find the cause before it boot loops you.
These are typically the only warnings, if any, before a boot loop. This is not normal behavior.
See which apps are using the most battery, try force stopping them, clear their data, disable them temporarily if possible.
Disable any power management!!!
If using a 3rd party launcher or power management, disable it!!!
Try in safe mode.
Take all factory installed apks especially system apks back to their factory load versions.
Turn off all cloud apps including Google backup Transport for now. Turn off Google Firebase.
Turn off all Google, Samsung, and carrier feedback.
Try temporarily disabling Google play Services, clear it's data.
Reset network settings.
Clear system cache.
Try a hard reboot.

so i fixed it after going to safe mode and realizing that it was not the system apps, then i reinstalled that mantis app and uninstall it again to make sure if it was stuck or not also there was this app called : NET SPEED INDICATOR that was updated recently and was flagged as crashed in device monitor so i uninstalled it too and boom, the device was normal again.
so happy that it was a software issue rather than hardware or malware one since i keep close control of what i install and not and monitor everything it was surprising to see such things in my phone, after years of Samsung phone usage it was really shocking to see such behaviors on my s21 ultra with freezing and crashing non stop.
thanks for the help guys!
