Can you use xt1058 5.1 firmware on the moto x verizon xt1060 variant
There are threads discussing the LEAKS of the 5.02 and 5.1 TestDrive's and usage on other phones, including various processes. There is discussion from some XT1060 users in those threads too.
I suggest you read those, and decide for your self if you really want to try... or just wait until something for the XT1060 comes out.
My advice, wait for something XT1060 specific as we are still seeing "TEST DRIVE" versions, and not final release versions. So it may not yet be worth the effort.
You can use it but it may have bugs

I just got a Developers Edition Moto X and I love the device, but coming from the HTC One, it has come as a shock to me how different each forum is.
I'm very surprised we haven't got a stock ROM for the 4.4.2 update that is flashable with TWRP/CWM.
Is it because of the locked bootloaders? Did the device not sell well?
From what I've read here is that most people are happy with the stock ROM with root. As the ROM is so close to Vanilla Android, there is not a lot of development in ROMs for this phone. Also most want to keep Active Display and/or the Touchless Controls. I just got an OTA for 4.2.2 on my retail unlocked Moto X (also referred to as the T-Mobile version).
As far as the boot loader goes, to my knowledge only the Verizon retail and AT&T retail Moto X's are locked. All the other models can be unlocked by requesting the unlock code from Motorola. And I think the phone sold well. It definitely could have used a lot more marketing help to compete with the larger manufacturers.
sucks that mine is locked

Well we do have a stock flashable 4.4.2 ROM there's actually 2 one for the 1052 and kangakat ,both are for the gsm version and I do believe they will also work on the CDMA variant If you swap out the build prop, we also have custom Roms, slimkat, cm11, gummy.pacman, Liquid smooth and beanstalk

I completely agree with this. ROMs like CyanogenMod or AOKP aren't likely to support Active Displays, or "Okay Google Now" voice commands, or flicking the wrist to unlock the camera.
Also, I think the fact that there's a big split between the Dev Editions and Moto-Maker hurts things more. A lot of people of Moto-Maker, and they're very limited on what they can do with their phones compared to Dev Edition. Then you add in the fact that there are GSM/Verizon/Sprint versions all mixed AND the phone hasn't sold well, and things are very limited.

not to worry. even though a lot are pleased with stock out of the box, there will be ROMs. we can still tweak, improve, and slim it down some. i officially ordered mine yesterday and it is the DE/T-Mob variant XT1053.
just like others have said, the device hasn't been advertised as much as it should be, esp with the deals that keep going on with it. if it would stay at $300 for 16gb/$350 for 32gb, they would sell like hot cakes.

the GSM unlocked on Moto-Maker is the exact same as the Dev Edition. i think this is confusing a lot of people.
I am getting conflicting info and do not want to brick my phone. Here's my detail:
AT&T Moto X with Locked Bootloader, running the latest OTA 4.4.2. I'd like to root my Moto X. Is this even possible? If so, I know I have to downgrade to 4.2.2 first, but how? What things I should watch out for? This is my daily driver so I'd like to NOT brick it. Thanks in advance.
DO NOT DOWNGRADE FROM 4.4.2 to anything!!!!
Changes to the bootloader, gpt.bin and other things prevent successful downgrading. You could either brick or set yourself up for a brick later if you try and downgrade
as for rooting 4.4.2....
No. There is currently no way to root an X that has a locked bootloader and 4.4.2. That includes Verizon, ATT, and others.
This is covered in many threads already, including some recently started ones.
Here are some I found quickly just by scrolling through the thread listing in this Q&A section....

Thanks, kidjoe!
I probably read at least one of the threads you posted above, but it probably didn't register a warning with me. Anyway, it's now crystal clear that I shouldn't root my moto x at this point.
This should be a sticky.
The reason why there are so many new recent threads about the downgrade and rooting questions is because there are many threads telling people how to downgrade and root their moto x. Buried within the threads and pages of postings, you can find a warning or two. There should be a sticky about this issue, not buried and hard to find, right there front and center. But, I am not holding my breath.
there actually was a big long thread discussing it... It disappeared, but I wasn't following it closely enough to know why..
Most of the root threads do have comments near their ends (the most recent parts) that they don't work on 4.4.2, etc.. even if they don't contain warnings on downgrading.
But you are right... a sticky thread warning not to downgrade is a good idea.

It was removed by request of the opening poster cause it became a giant argument thread.....one side saying DON'T downgrade....and the other side saying you can downgrade if you do this that and the other thing. Lol

to be on the safe side I wouldn't downgrade anything unless you've exhausted all resources an that more than 10-20 real individuals actually successfully downgraded

Maybe I'm too cautious, but the only way I'd ever think of trying to downgrade....is if I had $350 to burn....just in case. Lol.

I just updated KitKat to 4.4.3 a few weeks back. Is there really already a 4.4.4 update? I saw this here, but I couldn't tell if 4.4.4 is intended for the Moto X or not.
The first few paragraphs of that link provide you with all the info you asked

Looks like the article was just mentioning the devices that got 4.4.3. I doubt carriers are going to go through the trouble of testing and rolling out 4.4.4 for the X if they've already put out 4.4.3. I think that's why they only confirmed the GPe Moto G for 4.4.4. Just my guess.
Does anyone know if the SSL bug got fixed in our 4.4.3?

Well, yes and no. I still can't figure out if there's going to be a 4.4.4 for the Moto X. No big deal, apparently, but I'd like to know. If I were hit by a bus tomorrow, for instance, I'd hate to leave this earth without having first gotten the latest Android update for my phone.:cyclops:

Great news but I through the X was the flagship and not the G. Why the G is always updated before it?

Yes, I find that weird too, I mean no disrespect to G or E owners but why X is prioritize last?
Also what does that mean "Indian users", what the hell will happen to users of elsewhere?

Its written Indian users because our phones are not bound by any carrier . So we receive our updates from Motorola directly. For other carrier based phones it depends on the carriers and not Motorola.
Also its little weird that Moto E is getting the update before X, Since X being the flagship phone :/

Guess that updating Moto G and E prior Mot X is rather a technical issue than question of a privilege. Moto X with its 8 core computing system needs much more adaptation than other ones, which based mostly on the plain AOSP . That's also the reason why is so difficult to mod a useful custom ROM for Moto X with full stock functionality.
For all of those who have the pure edition, shouldn't we already have 5.0.1 update? My understanding was that that the updates on the pure edition should be just like the nexus devices. Is this not the case?
No, updates on pure edition are not just like nexus devices . You've been misled. However, the moto x does get updates quicker than most other devices. Again, however, It all depends on the update.
For instance, I heard/read somewhere that the fixes in 5.0.1 are not needed for the moto x because Motorola had already squashed them themselves in the 5.0 update. So Motorola has no incentive to work on releasing a 5.0.1 update. Take that with a grain of salt. I have no sources, (can't remember where I heard it) but someone may chime in with more info supporting that or rebuking it.
But, no, nexus devices will always see updates first.
There was a second build of 5.0 pushed to the PE, but it doesn't fix the problems with Attentive Display or the ringer volume changes on Moto Voice (among other things).
Well, 5.0.1 hasn't even rolled out for the nexus 5 yet, they're still fixing things. Motorola has already released 5.0.1 for the Moto G, so we can expect it soon enough for our moto x as well, once they finish squashing all the bugs. They need to work on Moto Assist, Moto display etc to play well with lollipop so might take some time compared to the moto g which doesn't have any of these additional features
I've had a nexus 6 for a while, but it started acting up and I -really- missed my moto x. Unfortunately, I had accidentally let it OTA back in to locked bootloader land some time when I was messing with it over the last couple years.
I just bought a dev edition and to my surprise, it wouldn't OTA to 5.1, and stopped at like 4.4. I've searched and searched, but can't seem to find out if it's even possible to have 5.1 on this device.
I really want to use android auto, and that requires at least lollipop
I could try another ROM, but honestly these days stock roms are a lot smoother than they used to be and I know everything I need will work.
Can verizon dev editions get 5.1?
Out of the custom ROMs, are any well vetted enough that things like VoLTE and wifi android auto will "just work"?
Thanks XDA!
AFIK VoLTE is not supported on Moto X and Yes lollipop is available on Verizon version.
Just look at stock image on ROM section and they have Verizon firmware
I'm running 5.1 on my Verizon XT1060. Latest "official" image posted from Motorola is all the way back at 4.4.2. I use it combined with xposed and gravitybox. Still use the XT1060 as my daily phone. Waiting for something in the same size, quality, and better performance to arrive... but I think we're out of luck; phablets are all the rage.
