[Q] Droid Turbo - Qi Charger issue - Verizon Motorola Droid Turbo Q&A, Help & Troublesh

I purchased a Choetech T513 on Amazon to charge my Turbo via Qi. Several of the reviewers said they had a Droid Turbo. When I used the device, my phone heated up to 114 degrees, which can't be good. Furthermore, it only charged about 1% every ten minutes or so, regardless of whether I used a normal charger or the quick charger.
Has anyone successfully used a Qi charging pad with this device and had it work without setting the phone into dangerously high heat mode?
As you can see, the Choetech device had great reviews:
http://www.amazon.com/Wireless-Char...&qid=1431549415&sr=8-1&keywords=choetech+t513

I've never charged my phone with USB other then to test it actually worked. I use Qi every night or every other night. I experience almost no warmth during charging at all using a cheapie Qi pad I got off of ebay 2 years ago. I think you tend to get more warmth if the alignment is bad. The charging coil is a little closer to the bottom of the phone then the top so it shouldn't be centered on most charging pads. For this reason I opened my charger up and moved the coil slightly so my phone can sit perfectly centered on the pad. I have had Qi charging issues with a Nexus 7 2013 where it said it was charging but actually wasn't on the same pad. My Moto has never failed to charge perfectly. It takes about 5 hours for a full charge if the phone is at 1%.

I purchased a tylt vu from verizon and am still having trouble. It will recognize the phone, start charging, and then keep reassessing the positioning.
The issue is that I have a magnet on the phone backing that connects to my car harness. I moved that perpendicular to the phone, as close to the lens as possible, and the same problem still occurs. I can't figure out how to make this work. I thought the qi charging was toward the bottom of the device, not the top.
Other than removing the magnet, which doesn't make a lot of sense, how can I make this work? You'd think the magnet would enhance conduction.

I use the nexus 4 wireless orb charger and works flawlessly. Charging time is slower if I have daydreams playing but decent charging speeds when daydreams are turned off.

I got this charging stand off of eBay and it works great, no overheating. Item #161580812967. The only time it will get warm is the occasional time I use the Turbos rapid charger.

I've used qi for my last 2 phones, tends to work really well. I agree with previous posters that the area on the turbo is very small, and almost 2/3 towards the bottom of the phone. If you're not lined up just right, it will stop and start over and over again. try to align it right on spot.

If you notice the charger I listed above has 3 coils and works perfectly.

Exactly. On my Nexus 5, the rear circuit lined up perfectly in the middle of the charging orb. But with the Quark (Droid Turbo/Moto Maxx/Moto Turbo) you have to hang the phone off the end of the orb for it to mate with the charging coil. Seems the Qi circuit in the phone is in the lower third, instead of in the middle (where it should be).
The LG G3 is like that too, so our phones are not alone.
My solution was to get a 3-coil charger, aka triple coil charger. Get them on Amazon for $22 - $28 with free shipping. Flat or tilt type, either design works perfectly with the phone, IF it's a triple coil charger.

Yes, it does. No matter where you place the phone on the charger it will hit charging coil, as it has 3 integrated all across the design, instead of just one coil.
I own both the flat and tilt 3-coil charging pads, and I like the tilt a little better as I can see display for notifications easy without having to pick up the phone.

Review: Seidio Multi-Function Battery Charger

I got a surprise package to review...when I opened it, it was a Seidio Multi-Function battery charger!!!! First I will say that is a must-have product for ALL HTC Incredible owners. HTC Incredible has proven to have a less powerful battery life than we would all like to see, and so the multi-function charger makes keeping an extra battery a breeze. Now, that is not all... You can also use this multi-function charger if you have a couple of different devices by switching the charging plates....and the USB connection can be used with any USB cord for charging.
The package included:
Base
Battery charging plate
Device charging cable
The features multi-function charger offers are:
Ability to charge an extra battery and your device at the same time
Prongs fold away for easy travel
Additional charging plates can be purchased separately for use with other Smartphones
Travel ready as it uses 100-220v charge
Ease of Use...
Getting everything set up, took me a few minutes and the charger is really easy to use. The USB cord is longer than the stock charger and is softer, which makes it more convenient to use it anywhere. The phone can be charged direct from PC, or the charger, just by plugging in to appropriate sources and switching the AC/USB Power switch. As mentioned above, the multi-function charger can be used with different devices by switching the charging plates, or if you have more than one device. This makes it the most needed item.
Charging Process...
Charging the phone was nice and especially having the extra battery ready is very handy. The charging time for multi-function charger versus the stock charger is a little shorter but not by much...although considering that it charges two batteries at once, yes definitely shorter charging time. The wall charger, at least the one I had, did make a static high pitched noise, but it was not enough to bother me. I have heard other chargers to do that, so I am unsure of the cause.
Few Days Evaluation...
Over a few days of use, I can even further confirm that this is a must have product for smartphone owners which like to use a lot of battery juice. The charger is also very compact making it easy to take along while traveling, as it is small and the prongs completely fold in...which is something Seidio worked on and improved over the past multi-function chargers. Also keep in mind that the interchangeable charging plates is a guarantee for upgrades for newer devices as they come out. I can guarantee that this will be a high demand item.
To purchase the Seidio Multi-Function battery charger, please visit Seidio Online - Multi Function Battery charger.
I have purchased products similar to this, and the prongs that plug into the wall always break. At 30$, its quite expensive... how's the build quality?
I almost bought one before the Dinc came out. They were $19 then. Don't switch out batteries now though, so I'm not sure I would use it. I have a number of retractable MircoUSB cables (one on every computer now) and I carry one so I can charge almost anywhere if needed.
Nope
I continue to maintain that the best way to break those teeny tiny clips holding your Incredible together, is to keep opening and closing it. While my AT&T Tilt had an easy to remove back, the Incredible does not.
.

Great work. I've always wanted to try out those add-on chargers. I've have a leftover Nokia charger that I bought for my Nexus 7. I would have to think that the module will fit inside the case after you pry it off. I currently have a thin magnet nestled in the case to use with my car dock.

My charger broke the other day, the tiny wire strip ripped a little and it no longer charges my phone. I think it lasted around 3 1/2 months. Towards the end I found it somewhat inconviencing to not have a usb unless I took it out. I'm currently on the fence on if I'll buy another. However it was very nice to have.

These really aren't that great, I was forced to use the USB port since the stock rom is buggy/bloated because I use the PA Rom. My DT-900 charged hopelessly slow and being able to toss it on for 10 minutes and get 3 hours of charge is something I have to do sometimes now that my battery has worn down.

I would love to see pictures of the charging dock as well.
Just a quick note for everyone viewing this thread, there is a lot of info on this type of Qi Charging coil in another thread: External Qi Charging Coil.
Some of your questions might be answered in that thread, such as charging rates, and how it works. I've been using it for some time and enjoy it. About the only problem I have with it is that I want to add a chunk of steel and a magnet so that the phone will "auto align" to the charging pad. That and to hold the phone to the charging pad, as a slight bump with the case I'm using will cause it to slide right off.
Also one last note, if you are using a horizontal holster, it can snag on the usb plug. So make sure the case you are using protects the plug, or you are very careful. The Poetic case I have doesn't protect the bottom and top, and thus the cable can get caught by the holster. Vertical holsters work quite well with the Poetic case, you just have to find one that fits....

AT&T had the Nokia Qi Charging docks for $5 plus free shipping the other day. It uses a barrel plug to charge, but great for permanent positions like by the bed or office. I moved my Samsung (microUSB) over into my travel bag. I'm actually VERY surprised how well the Nokia Qi is at "pairing" with my Verizon. I seriously just drop it on there and it starts charging where my Samsung had to be "generally" in the same area to get it to go. The Samsung still had play room unlike some of the cheaper $10 ebay models where it required exact precision to "pair" and start charging.
I don't know if the deal is still on but would be worth a look.
UPDATE:
Yup Still $5

Best wireless charging pad for leather + Qi/NFC sticker?

After installing one of these:
http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Wire...-Housing-Back-Cover-Case-T01/32357030303.html
into the back of a black leather case, I've noticed that this phone/antenna is very sensitive about where you place it on the wireless charging pad. I previously had a Galaxy S4 that I stuck a wireless charging sticker into, but that was much more forgiving about where it is placed on the charging pad.
Both pads I have are single coil. Lots of people speak highly of the Tylt Vue, probably because it has 3 coils. There are other much cheaper 3 coil versions available, and even versions with moving coils that supposedly find the sweet spot automatically.
What is the best wireless charging pad to use with this sticker?
With Tylt Vu do you have to place phone in landscape/horizontal to get it to charge?
Doesn't seem to be a lot of talk on QI Wireless Charging Pads.. What you guys using, with success?
LG has come out with a charger specifically for the G4:
http://www.amazon.com/Genuine-LG-Wireless-Charger-WCD-110/dp/B00XPTN0I2/
Looks identical to the one they had for the G3. Does anyone know if this charger (or any other charger) will allow the G4 with the Qi sticker to be easily and reliably placed vertically on the charger, so that there is no other fiddling around that is needed to find the "sweet spot" that is needed for wireless charging to connect and charge?
I grabbed 2 of these http://www.amazon.com/Itian-Wireles...437331299&sr=1-6&keywords=Qi+Wireless+Charger been great going to grab a 3rd for the living room. Phone is always charged up when I leave the house.

Yea I did write a review since I was happy with it for the price it is great. I grabbed it since some other reviewer said it worked with the Otterbox G3 so I figured ok this should work then with the Otterbox G4 and it did.
Lots of people are having problems with their Qi Charging of their G4s. It happens to me too, where the device will just start freaking out midway through the night. SystemUI crashes and I the desktop keeps crashing to a black screen. After a few minutes off the charger, it will recover. I am not sure why it does this though. Charging is a hardware mod. So there has to be some charging software that is freaking out. I've had my Nokia Charger for years. It charges my Nexus 7 2013 and other devices I have. The only problems I have are with the G4... and it isn't consistent. Some days are fine, others are not.
Some have said different chargers work with better results.
I am really disappointed that LG doesn't have official wireless charging backs available (and not the stupid flip case). If you sell a phone with Qi able... sell the damn Qi enabled backplates. I am unsure if maybe I have a bum Qi Sticker, if it isn't aligned 100%, or if it is just the phone itself.
It seems to get stupid when I take it off and on a few times before I go to bed. If I just plop it down and leave it alone, it seems to do better. But if I check my emails in the middle of the night a few times, it seems to be locked up in the AM.
Do people with the official LG flip case have issues with wireless charging I wonder?
What are most of using? Woild you buy it again? If not why? What other if any would you buy? If considering any one brand but price is an issue, at what price would it be reasonable?
I like the TYLT Vu because its a dock and its colors. But its pricey imo, but at $30 would you buy it? The LG dock has gone down to $30 as well.
I also found the LG pad for $20 right now. Any good, worth buying or spending a bit more on another plate or dock?
Let me know your opinions, Im looking to order one really soon. My sticker should arrive this weekend.
These are some I am considering and comparing official LG Qi

No. I tore off the flip cover just like on my G3. QI works perfectly on my G4. I only use the Tylt Vu at home & work, & I have a QI car mount (Choe) for my car. I've never had issues with either. The car charging is slow sometimes b/c I'm always on bluetooth streaming & have my Google navigation going.

I have been looking for a wireless stand for my phone and I am glad I found this one. The stand itself is of a very light aluminum with 2 large rubber feet on each side of the stand to limit slipping and sliding. The angle is more vertical than horizontal, perhaps 15 degrees back from vertical. The product shipped with the stand, a 2A usb AC adapter and a microUSB cable. The charging rate is substantial considering that it is not a "fast charger" and I could detect no increased heat on the stand, case or battery. The charging surface is large and it functioned with several phones and cases, with some caveats.
I have tested with these phones: Note 2, Note 3, Note5 and Galaxy S6
The Note 2 and 3 used aftermarket addon to enable Qi wireless charging, the Note 5 and S6 came with wireless charging capability built in.
The results were all similar in the following regards:
Bare phone in portrait mode, works perfectly.
Bare phone in horizontally, works perfectly.
Thin case in portrait mode, works perfectly.
Thin case in horizontally, usually worked, but in some occasions some sliding around was needed to engage the charger.
Note 5 Otterbox Defender in portrait did work
Note 5 Otterbox Defender in horizontal, usually worked, but in some occasions some sliding around was needed to engage the charger.
My testing concludes that the thickness of the case didn't affect the ability to charge, it was more of its ability to line up correctly with the coils. with the various sizes of phones, various cases, locations of charging receivers in the phones, it is hard for a 1 size fits all solution, but this one did fairly well and I am quite happy with it.
If I could design a better version of this:
* The front side could be extendable, to allow a bit more flexibility of lining up to the coils. Having a little bit of manual adjustment would make it more adaptable.
* The lights on the charging pad are multiple and fairly bright. a way of turning off those lights after the initial detection would be useful. For the mean time, a bit of black tape will mask the problem.
* The MicroUSB port is exposed and the cord sticks way out to the right side. Placing the port to the interior or providing a right-angled connector would make it more clean looking
I did receive promotional pricing for this product for the purposes of the review, which was convenient because I have really been looking for a product like this.
Great review i have to say i love my iron stand. Sadly my case is to thick for the charger to charge it with the hard plastic back on. there customer service is really good. they emailed me after purchasing the charger to make sure i was satisfied and i got talking to yoona and she helped me out greatly. she provided me a photo of the internals of the device to show the depth the coils below the black plastic which explained why my case doesnt work.
Nice, but I prefer the Spigen Tilt charger to the choetech.
I did "modify" it a little bit to contain the cable a bit, by clipping on that banana clip from my desk drawer.
Thank you guys for sharing! I do love Qi charging stands versus lay flats. I love CHOETECH but I hate that side charging USB location. Why is it there?? Qi charging is great because it helps hide cords, and this thing jut shoves it in your face.
Wow. Didn't know what to expect but this is a fantastic device. With a lot of wireless chargers you will get a delay before it starts charging, sometimes having to reposition the device on the charger until it is in the right place. Not this one. Not only does the stand feature help you to instantly put it in the right position, but the power difference is obvious immediately. It charges from even a few inches away from the pad. I swapped the white Micro USB out for a black one.
Charging great on my Nexus 6 even with my rather utilitarian Roocase "Glacier Tough" Nexus 6 case. Highly recommend!
I wonder if they will come out with a Quick Charge version of this? That would rock.
I have not messed with NFC Tags, but I wonder if they would work on this sort of thing. Use NFC Tag to trigger a tasker profile to connect to BT speakers, keyboard, start screencast, etc

Montar Qi Universal Car Mount and Charger

I was fortunate enough for Winnergear to contact me to review their newest car mount and Qi charger, the Montar Qi.
I have been using this for the last three days and am entirely pleased with the product.
I have not been able to find any faults at all with the design or usage of this product.
I will answer any questions you may have as soon as I can about this product, just ask here or PM me.
This arrived to me well packaged and quickly direct from Winnergear.com.
It is listed on their site at $79.99 and to me is worth the price, however they are currently running a promotion that if you share product on facebook and or twitter you get $8.00 knocked off the price instantly.
Inside the box you will find:
The Qi charger/mount
The base for the charger
A sticky pad to apply to your dash
A lighter adapter for power
The instruction manual

The packaging is fairly basic, listing all the materials used and manufacturing location.
The instructions are easy to follow and well written.
Nothing too exciting here but I took pictures for you in case you are interested.
You have to attach the mount to the base, this is simply done by loosening the nut on the base and pressing it to the mount.
Then just tighten the nut finger tight.
The base has a suction cup on it that has a sticky gel in addition to the strong suction cup.
This should stick to most surfaces including slightly textured dash pads and your windshield.
For heavier textured dash pads there is the included sticky pad, just stick it to your dash and then use the suction cup on the mount to attach it to the pad.
This sticky pad uses high quality 3M double sided tape to stick and should work on anything.
Once this is together and installed in your vehicle, just plug in the included lighter plug and the mount is ready to use.
This mount is fully adjustable and should work with any Qi compatible smartphone.
This includes phones that officially support Qi charging and ones that have an aftermarket sticker of any kind.
I am currently using this charger with my LG G4 and LG v10 without any issues at all.
To adjust this mount to fit your smartphone, just press the button on the bottom back of the mount and the bottom feet will adjust up and down.
Use this adjustment to align the center of your phone's Qi receiving coil with the Qi symbol on the mount.
The arms that hold your phone locked into this mount are curved to hold your phone better than any other mount I have yet tried.
They are also large enough that they should hold your phone even with the thickest of cases on.
The arms on this mount are strong enough to hold your phone through even the bumpiest of roads.
I put my LG G4 in this mount and flipped it upside down and shook it as hard as I could to try to get it to come loose and could not get it to slip even a little bit.
Once you have this mounted all of the ports on your device should be easily accessible, the bottom arms are designed so that they should not obstruct any of the ports on your phone.
As soon as you place your phone on this Qi charging mount, it should start charging.
I have had no problems with heat buildup using this charger.
This will also trickle charge your device once it reached 100% charge and maintain that 100% charge.
Last, you are still able to use the camera of your smartphone while you have it connected to this charging mount.
If you would like to use your smartphone as a dashcam, you can easily do that without worrying about killing the battery in your phone.
This is easily a 10/10 product.
The price may seem a little steep to some, but if you think about what you are getting here, it is well worth it.
I would highly recommend the Montar Qi Car Mount.

thx for your review.
Does the charger/qi impair the radio reception ?
I have an other qi-charger/mount and radio is disturbed during charging.

I have not noticed an issue with that.
I will test later today and report back.

I did quite a bit of testing of cellular reception over the last few hours.
I have not been able to notice any difference at all with my phone on or off of this charger.
I tested 4G LTE, 4G, 3G, and WiFi.
I also checked Bluetooth range and it was also no noticable difference.
Thx

Hi. Just got the Monta Qi car charger. So cool! I have a Note 5. When I put the Note I to the Montar it showed wireless charging but not fast wireless charging on Note 5 notifications onscreen. I used a 5V/3.1A car charger & basic cable. Myou phone was at 78% charge already. I understand Montar does fast charging.
I tested the Montar & Note 5 pairing using the Note 5 fast charging wall adapter. Note 5 still only showed wireless charging in notification.
Does Montar support Note 5 wireless fast charging or just normal wireless charging?
