Nice! I'd have to flash back to stock, take the OTA update and then root again. I wonder if it's worth it or not. Do you notice any difference in OE2?

That's exactly how I did it, but this time using the PingPong Beta6 version to root. I can't report differences yet since it has been just updated. I will give it a day or so to notice the differences/changes.

Do we need ANOTHER post on this? I made the exact same post highlighting the fact that people weren't searching for the post on root in the SAME forum as this post yesterday......
Mods?

I'm sorry if it bothered you but my post is about rooting yesterday's OTA update. The post that you referred to is a generic post and my post confirms that the OE2 update for the G925A is rooted. Anyway, mods can delete this thread if they understand that it's just another post saying the same.

Update for Tmobile L90 (4.4.2 SWV10e)

I was wondering if anyone here updated their T-mobile L90 to the latest version. I just saw the update today and could not find any kind of changelog on T-mobile website so I would like to know if anything changed or if its just a bug fix. Also does doing this OTA update break root access?

Any official OTA update will break root. And it may be impossible to reroot afterwards. TowelRoot works for V10C for sure. PurpleDrake may be able to reroot.

This will definitely break root, and you won't be able to get it back unless you revert or figure out something that no one else has yet. I went back to version c. No changes were apparent otherwise.

It's said that PurpleDrake can root the devices that TowelRoot no longer works with.
Well no thanks to that stunt my mobile data wasn't working at all, had no choice but to wipe my system completely and send it to lg they already sending me back an another phone as we speak, now unless these roms are completely stable to the bone I'm not even going to waste my time with it(no disrepect to the developers but I got to stuff to do on my phone ), I'll just wait on the official android L update.

I upgraded since it looked as though the mod I did to use some USB OTG might work better with the LG update. I lost root, towelroot and Kingo root no longer work and this kinda sucks. I even tried some of the tips on this site to do an emergency reflash of the entire device and I can't even get that to work. The update didn't make the situation better for me.
I should have learned this long ago, just never upgrade until you're absolutely sure you can put it back the way it was. Even the revert software I had mysteriously is no longer on the device.
Next phone will be a gray market model for sure.
Have you tried the lg flash tool? It got me back on version c pretty easily:

Looks promising. I like that it doesn't trip KNOX but will the "custom status" be a problem?
I'm 7 days into this phone, still have a week to return/exchange it if something is defective. So far it's running fine, dont foresee need to take it back.
But .............. If I did need to return it, is there an "unroot" and/or a way to remove the custom status ?
*** EDIT *** I haven't read all the way thru the root thread, so if my question has already been answered I apologize.
No Custom Status
I have now rooted twice, flashing the firmware posted in this forum in the middle. My phone has not shown custom on the bootscreen once. I also encrypt before I root, so maybe thats it. Who knew you could be encrypted with root?
Have you uninstall all the att bloatware without problems? Or used greenify to improve battery life?

Yes, all the typical rooting items work as they should. You can even flash zips with fireflash, and not trip Knox.
It's NOT in the bootscreen where you can see the custom status. It's in settings / about device / status. In the last line it crearly says "Custom" under Device status.

You'll generally have to manually flash updates once you've rooted, the OTA process will usually refuse to update a device running a modified system image. Not that big a problem, but sometimes it confuses people.

Or, install Samsung drivers, then Odin, and flash a stock image that way to return to stock, then OTA works fine. There is another thread around here with a stock image, I'd suggest anyone looking to return to stock in order to complete an OTA, to review that thread.

Would we be able to use fireflash and keep root if somebody were to get the OTA and customize it for our needs to keep root, etc? I know it's a hard question to answer, but maybe you guys have experience with other locked bootloader devices.

This is similar to how we did it on the AT&T S4 using safestrap to flash touchwiz based roms that were pre-rooted. Unfortunately, we wouldn't be able to flash non-touchwiz based roms without an unlocked bootloader.

[ROOT] PingPongRoot ***S6 & S6 Edge Root Tool*** by idler1984

It seems that many 925A'ers are not leaving this forum to find out that YES, we have root! The unnecessary questions, comments, doubts are starting to pile up, so maybe this is the best way to ensure everyone knows that YES (again), we have root. Here are THREE posts from the SAME person in DIFFERENT threads asking the SAME thing:
There's root for the g925a? Where?

If that won't drive you crazy, it should at least get you warned for not following forum rules and searching instead of posting for no reason..... If that user searched, they would have easily found this thread showing you exactly how to root the 925A!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3103016
To be 110% clear....... this was developed by @idler1984, NOT me, so thank them - all credit goes to them, I'm just trying to keep the 925A forum cleared up if at all possible!
ENJOY!
EDIT - and because someone asked........ Root has been achieved for both OCE and the 5.13.15 OE2 update
EDIT 2 - and because more people can't read, you CANNOT root anything past May 15th builds, so none of the OF_ updates, nothing that comes out after May 15th, so don't update unless you want to lose root! The information is all there in the thread linked above, if you don't read, you don't have anyone to blame but yourself!
Good job. Was thinking of doing the same.
omg thank you. by the way that first quote was mine sorry. and i did search to no avail. thanks a bunch for clearing this up. and ill try to be more thorough with my search next time.

Okay, that makes sense then, OC9 instead of what I thought you were talking about, "OE9" which I guess does not exist (yet?)
They skipped that one because OE2 is out and there's no need to get the build in the middle developed, from what I can tell.... I've been wrong before though! Just hit your software update and get OE2 then root that, it has the most updates we're going to see before 5.1.1 comes out next month (still more speculating, but that's an informed guess this time based on lots of reading up on the new Galaxy from across the web)

I'm getting increased queries and replies in this post/PM recently, so I'll try to make this clear (hopefully) for 99% of people. Short version of OP which you must read:
2. No new ROM can be supported as bug has been fixed.
Full story:
New bootloader blocks downgrading, be careful installing 5.1.1 OTA!
Kernel built after May 15th (including some 5.0.2 and all 5.1.1) have this bug fixed. Be cautious when installing OTA these days and FlashFire might be your best shot of upgrading systems. Use Odin to unroot and receive OTA if you want.

Ohhhh I didn't look at the baseband version.. Yeah it will brick your device. At this point you should take what I say with a grain of salt when I say you can't root lollipop and you should have better luck sticking to lollipop and waiting for someone to find a vulnerability in marshmallow.
Looks like that rooting is gonna have to wait a bit longer
Speaking of... Long shot here, but has anyone started looking for a vulnerability to exploit?

Doesn't apply to this situation.
From first link:
"(Caution! Do not flash if you have taken the OC4, OF2, or OF3 ota updates) and root with TowelRoot, before continuing with the above process."
TowelRoot doesn't work here.
Second link:
"Make sure your AT&T Galaxy S5 is 100% stock Android 4.4.4 KitKat firmware."
So no.

Need help to downgrade my note 8 to a previous update (N950USQU7DTA3)

So, couple months ago AT&T released an update (in January 2020) which I saw a significantly improved battery life by 25% I was planing to disable my updates for future updates because I really liked it! However, 2 weeks later one day i wake up and my phone forced a new update and the battery life got back to the same even worse that what it used to be before that first update! Now, I am looking to downgrade my update to (N950USQU7DTA3) to be specific. I cant seem to find the file. Is there a source to find it? Also, Its been years since I've done this. Is there a way you guys recommend doing it without causing any issues?
Thanks!
At&t does not post firmware. Just flash any US firmware it's all the same. It will provision to your At&t sim

@kamycrs
Please don't post questions in the development section. I have asked a moderator to move it to the correct Q&A section, please bare this in mind for any future posts.
Do you know how I can find and flash that specific one? N950USQU7DTA3? or to find which would be the most identical?
The search function is an amazing thing...But I will do it for ya...Sammobile or Frija[emoji16][emoji106]

What's ???* you're definitely not the best also please.
Well when Elliwigy and Jrkruse give information you can bet its spot on. And MrMike has been around for quite awhile. Just try to take the advice given and understand none of these guys will lead you down the wrong path. Good luck and hopefully you will find something that works out for you[emoji106]
