[IDEA][AOSP] S-pen feat. - Galaxy Note 4 General

Hey guys frozt here just thought I would drop an idea by you guys that love the note 4 but hate touchwiz.
So I was thinking in theory it would be possible to when detaching the spen to open the "Pie" control since when you do it on stock the spent quucksettings popup, and pie is way more customizable and user friendly
So my whole point is do you think that this would be useful?
P.S. I went to my nexus 6 I need a Turing point as to why I should come back to the note 4
Stereo speakers and 6in screens a big deal for me. Any thoughts?

so listen to this

there are many pie apps available in google play store. download any of them.
now go and search in same play store with keywords "note", "spen", "detach" and you ll get 2 or 3 apps which allows to launch an app on detach on aosp as well. chose wisely. hurray you got it.
nexus 6 with stock vs note 4 for tw.
---> tw has many options compared to stock android and nothing beats shealth, air command (spencommand for replacement), writing buddy, one hand, toolbox, upsm, camera, snote, finger lock, multi window, lock screen effects, accessibility settings, private mode, s finder, pop up call ................. phewwwwwww and many more.
hope you got your answer. :silly:
if stereo speakers is all u need then i cant do anything for you but screen is almost same only 0.3in difference so it should not matter.

I ran CM11/12 AOSP nightlies on my Note 2 right up till now. I replaced it with a Note 4 and you know what, Samsung knows best when it comes to the S-Pen and has integrated it well. I'm probably not going to flash any custom roms this time.

I love my nexus 6, its got everything I'm a visual guy and the look makes it sexy. I build widget in Zooper and it just adds to it, but Samsung has more of what I will need as I'm headed towards my pH.D.
As for the apps I understand that but what I was getting at is detaching opens pie with those feats from stock. Idk just and idea I thought no one had explored. So my nexus is posted and I'm gonna trade it!

Also I'm a T-Mobile user would the snapdragon be better or exynos?

snapdragon for better custom roms support as exynos will always suffer with lack of devs working on it.
and note is worth every penny. its not for guys who loves big and beautiful its also worthy for day to day work for any individual as well.

1 Of The Biggest Breakthroughs On Android Yet Is A N4 Exclusive - Pro-Audio 2.0 SDK!!

Not 1 Android news site has picked up on this yet, as its not really been advertised via press release, etc..
I think this is a pretty big deal.. but whadduiknow?
As we all know ios has been light years ahead of Android in the music production department due to the lack of
proper low/no latency audio sdk that developers could harness.
I play bass and have always been a fan of an app called Amplitube, (Ampeg) This is a real time guitar effects modeling software
that is pretty amazing. I have wished for years now that this would come to Android and everytime the developers have been contacted they have said that their hands are tied, Its not US its GOOGLE.. We do not have the proper featureset to work with in terms of low latency audio.
Well it seems that the wait is finally over, Perhaps Samsung finally got tired of Google dragging their feet for how long now to provide a real low/no latency audio solution..
I just found out about this by checking out the "Galaxy Gifts" page to see what goodies Samsung was giving along with the Note 4 purchase by noticing they are giving away a free copy of Amplitube le,.. I thought this was really strange. giving away a ios/windows app?
Then I saw this and really started to get excited.

This is great news, A real Low-no latency DAW with the freedom of Android I hope this is the kick in the ass Android needed for proper music production.
Im a drummer in a band my bass player uses an ampeg app on his ipad im defintly gonna let him know about this little goodie?
Great news but where is the amplitube app ? Cant find it on the appstore
Do you know if the standard Irig HD will work with it ?
Thanks !
Edit : ok, it's in the galaxy appstore and seems to be compatible with the normal Irig. Will give it a try tonight. Hope it will also come to the note pro tablet as it would be optimal with the 12.2 inches screen
I'm pretty sure low latency audio is part of Android L from what I understood from a panel at Google i/o this year. Maybe google shared the code with them early.

Amplitube le is on the galaxy store part of the free gifts,
another member has mentioned that IK is releasing a "irig HD-A" (for Android) in November which probably is
usb 2.0.
I can't find the app too bad used to use an irig on iPhone when I owned one
^ You can't find the app in note 4?
The app is in the samsung app store. I used the irig on my ipad so I'll give this a shot when I get back home. Wish they gave us all the amps tho lol. Thanks for the info!
Got the app but can't try it, irig doesn't come with micro usb cable =(
Ok, back to report the app and irig works great with my strat. Took a picture of what you need. This is great!

Awesome stuff - just downloaded. Great to see Android finally catching up with iOS on the music-making front.
We are definitely going to expand to other devices as more start to support Samsung Professional Audio but we also will be showing (and you can try it if you are there) near-zero latency Android audio for devices using Android 4.0 and above (so not even requiring Lollipop!). We announced this today on our site. I would post a link but I need more posts first

Looks like 5 on Note 4...! ;)

+1 for me an example how NOT to use the notification area. Not much room left for notifications compared to stock android.
Appreciate the good news! Im sure the Note 4 is getting it soon! I personally want the "s-connect and quick connect" to be an option so I can take it off the notification.
Hoping to get this b4 Christmas but my hope are not high....

In this video looks like Samsung will be put together little piece of Android 2.x,4.x and 5.x. It looks like crap. Why they not build proper version of Android 5.0?? Not just mix 3 years old Android with new?
Dialer and contacs are so ugly and years old. On stock 5.0 are so beutiful.

i prefer having one row for quick toggles rather than a row of notification, its much convenient to use toggles in single pull

How many sales do you think it costs Samsung that their dialler and contacts app are ugly? 10,000? 100,000? There's no incentive for them to change it, especially when they're trying to establish a certain consistency so that there's familiarity for non-tech-savvy people who are used to Galaxy products. They'd lose more sales from people who would send it back because Samsung changed everything and now they can't figure out how to text their grandkids.
Just keep voting with your wallet. If stock's beautiful to you, buy a stock device.
Couldn't agree more. Remember this isn't a HTC.

Actually, it'll depend on the implementation, which we can't really see from the static image. We'll need to see a video to see if the quick shortcuts/brightness slider/S-view shortcuts are part of the initial pull-down view.
To explain: on a Nexus 5/6, the initial view on a pull-down gesture shows app/persistent notifications only. A further pull-down shows the notifications transition into quick access shortcuts exclusively. This second pull-down view actually takes up MORE space than Samsung's current implementation -- there is room for just one set of notifications at the bottom, with multiple notifications sort of "stacked" like cards. You can check videos of the Lollipop notification center running on a Nexus 6 to get a better idea of what I mean.
So until we see how Sammy actually implemented it, it's too soon to say whether it takes too much space. For all we know, it's also a two pull-down implementation and the pics tweeted show the transition phase. The build that they showed for the S5 (in the video) was a very early build -- they didn't even want to post it because wi-fi (or something else, I can't recall which) wasn't working, so we can't draw conclusions from that. In fact, the current app switcher on a Note 4 is closer in appearance to the app switcher of stock android Lollipop than the one that shipped with the S5 so my inclination is that Sammy will attempt to emulate stock Android a bit more -- as Google has been pushing them (and other OEMs) to do.
My main hope is that Sammy does something about its color palette selection and the archaic tab UI on the dialer and elsewhere. I can see from the S5 videos that it's better but it's still around a generation behind. Something's off with the colors they've chosen for current Touchwiz and the video does show some improvement in that area. I hope the trend is in that direction. The Note 4 is a good piece of hardware kit and deserves an equally solid-looking UI.

Why not just buy a Nexus 6 then? If Samsung made it look like stock Android then what would be the point of them making their Galaxy phones? Touchwiz is Touchwiz. It will NEVER look like stock Android. Ever.
Well this is good news though as per usual some will get it by Christmas and others in February or something horrible like that.

Yeah. The sad bit for our Note 4's that we don't exactly have recourse to custom ROMs since there are all these different variants -- not to mention we have two processors -- so an early release for one variant doesn't mean it'll get ported for all the others.
I prefer the Samsung implementation of quick toggles, the stock toggles aren't as easily accessible, what with either 2 finger pull down or 2 pulls on the notification bar.

Definitly agree
I'll belive it once we have a ota
Ive got lollipop on my N7 and the notification area is a pain. Double pull down and then having to scroll up just to get to the clear all button. Never thought id say it but I now prefer skinned android, including touchwiz!
I was going to get a N6 until i used it on my N7. Put me right off.

Make your note better and faster

First get Nova Launcher the paid version
Play with it and soon the lag disappears
Second get a screen protector!
There you go. No need to for all out instructions or reviews
Our note 4 is Awesome. Its how you use it and maintain it is how it will continue!

Thanks man. You have just saved my day. I should donate to your PayPal account for you incredible wisdom. Next time I have speed issues with my note 4 which is already lag free I will come to you so you can recommend me an app that everyone has seen before. Not to mention the screen protector idea. I mean. Silly me, why didn't I think of that.
Nova creates about a one second delay before my click registers when I click on an app such as messaging for example. I went straight back to Touchwiz since there is no reason for that.

THIS!!!! I dont know why people keep changing launcher from touchwiz to nova launcher!!!!
nova launcher is laggy compared to touchwiz on galaxy note 4!! i keep going back to TW after trying nova launcher.
Now im starting to like the mi launcher prime, its been 4 days im using this launcher thou i experienced lags but who cares,
i just love the overall ui of my phone and the themes.
Cos nova is better than tw.... That's widely regarded. If you prefer tw that's fine. I probably don't like the colour of your bathroom. That's fine too.. It's called preference!
Wow great guide man! You solved all the worlds problems.
Maybe you can add a third step: Charge your phone after at night so you don't need to buy a new one after the battery is dead.
Another tip. Buy a SD card to store data on it. So you gain 37,43% cpu speed. I swear
Speaking of TW and Nova, one of the reasons I've been using Nova for the last few years (besides the customization and fluidity) is the option the backup the settings thorough the built in option or TB when switching roms.
Is there a way to backup the settings and grid on TW? Built in option or TB...?
I actually never tried to do it using TB because I preferred not to mess with system apps and backup user apps or xml backup...
Why would any sane person use a screen protector? It has gorilla glass 4, as long as you aren't stabbing the phone it will be fine

Satan, is that you ??
Really? Half of you really need to get a sense of humor. The hardest part of dealing with peoples concern with any samsung device is their hatred for Touchwhiz. Of course this in not a guide. Rather a simple suggestion to those who think Galaxy Flagships are laggy. They arent laggy. The Natural Touchwhiz Home launcher is built that way for looks. replacing it with Nova or others provides a quick response and stock AOSP look while maintaining the additions Samsung gives us.
Screen protector are for scratches not cracks IMO but even GG4 can crack and get scratches

Other people in the gorilla glass 4 thread have already gotten scratches on their screens. Even when GG3 came out everyone said you didn't need a screen protector. Then look what happened, people with sand in their pockets were tearing it up. I don't believe every claim companies make. Yes is it stronger. I will still use a rubber on this chick.

P9 coming tomorrow

Hey
My fiance got a P9 lite a few weeks ago.
Loving vanilla Android, I actually liked the P9 lite. Especially the 3 battery mode settings.
Her battery life seems to be pretty good, better than my Nexus 5x. So I ordered one.
Any tips for when I receive it?
Sent from my Nexus 5X using XDA Free mobile app
Well, it not really is vanilla android what you find on the P9. For me it is more a iOS themed android. Which is not bad, esthetics are really nice if you'd ask me. However, as a first thing I installed a launcher which I use for many years now (around 5) because I kinda need an app drawer.
Besides, you should get familiar with so called "protected apps". The selection makes sure a nice balance between push notifications and battery life.
Third, have a look at the accessories threads. I dont know if you usually use cases but I highly recommend the barely there case. It doesnt destroy the design of the phone.
Lastly, have a play with the camera. Especially the bokeh mode is astonishing.
Have fun with the phone, mate.

Depends what app it is,
I just have these protected, I also use nova launcher so I have an app drawer and can resize icons.
Other than the lack of app drawer, I think the os is fantastic, really quick, I prefer it to vanilla android.

Does OneUI feel like a step back towards OG Touchwiz?

Preface: I have been using smart phones and making ROMS for them long before Android existed. I say this to bring a little bit of insight to my experience with these devices...
I dont know, maybe its just me. It feels as if One UI is step back toward the original TouchWiz on the likes of the Galaxy S3 and the Note 2. Im not a fan right now. I was really enjoying Oreo on this device and may have to consider reverting back until I am officially forced to take the OTA from T-Mobile (whenever they push it).
I would like others input on the OneUI change from Samsung Experience. Feel free to chime in and say what you feel.
Thanks!
Not a step back. Samsung strove for a more minimal overlay; I think they did a good job.
Sent from my Pixel 3 XL using Tapatalk
I dont think its terrible. I just get that old Touchwiz vibe from it. I think its the "flat" overlay as you are suggesting. Reminds me of the flat overlay of the Note 2 and S3.
I tried the leaked One Ui, then the official OTA through At&t. I have since went back to ARL2 Oreo and couldn't be happier. I have been flashing since Samsung Infuse and Captivate. I kinda agree with your observation[emoji106]

I mean its not horrible...but for me..and its just my personal opinion, the Oreo feel is better for me.
Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk
hate it too but if you compair looks vs performance,
i take performance any day of the week.
that being said. i have been getting good battery life with a very fluid/fast experience.
lets face it. might as well get used to it. Let's just use PIE as a stepping stone for something greater. It's our Windows Vista, if you will, of the android variety.
edit:
oh and something that everyone seems to forget is that OneUI was meant to try and slim down everything to be able to use it efficiently with one hand.
so if you take that into consideration, it might help to make more sense.( doesn't mean we have to like it lol)
My main complaint is the color of the icons are a bit much. I got rid of the calculator which I usually have on my main screen and downloaded the google one just because the color was so bad. I think I'm getting used to the round edges in tht menus, but both those look like the been done by a first year graphics design student.
I do have to admit one thing about this upgrade, it did go very smoothly. I will give Samsung credit for that.
I like the update but I think it has to do more with the fact that its an update and it's different. Imo The Samsung experience UI is more polished than One UI as of now. In fact I think that if OneUi was the old version and Samsung experience was the newer version it would be more popular. Let's face it, OneUi is more cartoony while Samsung experience UI is more classy. But I still like the update nevertheless and wouldn't go back to Oreo if I had the option because this is a change. I had the S8, note 8, S9 and now note 9 so the new UI is a breath of fresh air.
Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk
Step up, but they should had put the multiwindow functionality from nougat/oreo... right now it feels more like an iphone than multitasking powerhouse (and if I want an iphone experience regarding functionality, I will go with iphone as it's smoother + the SOC is a lot more faster).
For me no.
The only drawback for me is Google's choice to forbid is for call recording.
I love it other than not having the multi window. It just feels different and it's nice because of the dark mode.

OneUI is the best skin out there though.
If they made a goodlock module for the qs panel that doesn't only change colours but changes the layout too then people who liked oreo could be happy. Like pentastic allows you to select note 4 air command so why doesnt quickstar allow us to change our quickpanel to older touchwiz and Samsung experience etc. And sound assistant should allow you to select older volume panels too. And maybe even create custom sound panels and notification panels so anyone who wants anything different like miui panel they can have it.
