Front glas cracked -> proximity sensor broken - Galaxy S III I9305 (4G LTE + 2GB RAM) Q&A, Help &

My i9305 dropped and now the front glas is cracked. screen & touch are still working, but the glas in front of the proximity sensor is cracked.
it does now always report 0 (attached to ear). Only with bright light in a specific angle I can trigger the proximity sensor, so I know the sensor itself is not broken. So the screen stays black when calling someone.
I tried recalibration: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2353972
but it did not change anything.
I dont want to replace the front glass, because I heared it might cause more trouble (with screen, touch and the sensors) - besides the proximity sensor everything does still work fine.

Proximity sensor hangs on bright light

Hello all,
I have strange problem, my proximity sensor is working fine, even on bright light, but when the light intensity drops, it hangs at engaged position and starts working again only in bright light. Apart from this situation, the sensor is working fine also in darker conditions, as long as it is not exposed to bright light. I have screen replacement, but this looks like matter of sensor, it sort of hangs. Do you have any ideas, what could be the cause, please?
Thank you
Jakub
I have fixed it by placing transparent tape over both sensors and tinted it with black marker. It took a little experimenting on how much black to put on in order for proximity to work properly and still the light sensor getting enough light. The proximity needed several layers of black, although it still remains mystery for me why it worked this particular way

Samsung galaxy M31 proximity sensor issue

Recently bought galaxy m31 and found out that i have to press my phone real hard on my ear to screen to go off during call. I never faced such issue with previous devices. So i searched on google and found *#0*# to check sensor working or not. Sensor is working correctly but there is no fixed place of sensor, seems like whole upper part of touch screen is used as sensor and there is no actual optical proximity sensor inside this phone. It's also clearly written Virtual Proximity sensing. Anyone facing same issue on this device or any other phone which uses this technology and any fix for this?
I have also the same problem. Thanks, at least you dig deeper "virtual proximity sensor".

It doesn't have any separate proximity sensor, rathor the front camera works as a proximity sensor. Try covering the front camera properly.

How does the virtual proximity sensor work?

Hello,
does anyone know how the virtual proximity sensor works?
AIDA64 and other apps say it is a "Ear Hover Proximity Sensor (ProToS)"
The same sensor should be in the Galaxy A51 as I found here
http://stools.gleamolabs.com/sensors/devices/1698
I know that it has no more real infrared proximity sensor.
Just accidentally stumbled over this post. Can you tell me how this ear hover proximity sensor performs? From the name I'd guess it only detects proximity if an ear is actually covering the sensor, and pocketing the device or waving your hand over the sensor will not trigger it, correct?

when I first heard about this phone it sounded like a fantastic device, that impression keeps getting eroded.

Replace proximity sensor with ambient light sensor.

Hello.
Im new to tasker, my problem is my proximity sensor is almost useless since the front glass is broken on the top of it.
Is there a way to read the ambient light values and trigger some functionalities. Such as AOD and lift to check. Using pixel 3xl btw.

Call sensor issue

I am facing the issue with a sensor while making call after oneui2.5 update.
Sometimes, the screen remains black after the call disconnected. To wake up the screen I used (double tap or power button)
After a restart, it works good. But after some time it became laggy again.
Does anyone face the same issue?
I have a quite different issue with the sensor. My screen doesn't go dark most of the times even when the phone is close to the ear. I guess there's no sensor in this phone, it also uses front camera to adjust the brightness.
Yes, the same issue when close to the ear. I don't know about the separate sensor or camera sensor.
