I have a Z3 Compact and a Z2 Tablet. Both have been upgraded to 23.1.A.1.28. With the previous 5.0.2 build, everything seemed fine but with the minor upgrade last week, I now get the message: "Android is upgrading" "starting apps" whenever I re-boot. Not a big issue as the reboot continues after 10 seconds. As this happens on both devices, I am assuming it's something to do with an app that's on both of the machines but I don't know enough about this stuff to know how to identify where the issue lies. Would it be a case of disabling all apps and bringing them back one by one? I have hundreds of apps so want to avoid a factory reset if I can.
I am also thinking that it is not a common problem as I have trawled around and only see reference to this with rooters and flashers so again, assume it is something common to both my devices rather that a system issue.
Any pointers please?
I have the same issue on Lollipop on my Xperia Z3 rooted.
Same here. Unrooted. Doesn't really bother me much though. Maybe it's because the cache is retained even after reboot unlike on Kitkat.

Basically, I have a Z1 I'm running Android 4.3 On it. (and I in no way intend to get 4.4 anytime soon by the way).
It has started to get a bit buggy and laggy, a few white screens and slow loading times here and there but I can generally deal with that, what I can't deal with however is that:
1. Apps will randomly minimise and I'll go back to the home screen, when I try to go back to the app sometimes it works but usually it will come back for a few seconds and then minimise again or even just do it right away. This happens particularly when using Chrome, more particularly when I am zooming or trying to type.
Which brings on to issue 2:
The keyboard takes ages to load, like up to a minute after I've clicked in a text box, this can also cause apps to then minimise again, very frustrating not being able to type. This has also started to occur when trying to text, but it's mainly in chrome.
This would lead me to think that the RAM isn't coping very well, but I do try to clear caches and stop apps from running but still I generally only have between 120-150mb of free RAM, so what can/should I do?
I'm tempted to factory reset to be honest.
Thanks in advance for your help, I know that this forum is the place to be for Androiders. :fingers-crossed:

Factory reset is the only logical thing j could recommend, short of an update. Any reason as to why you're avoiding the kitkat update? It's running like a dream on my Z1

Yeah I thought that a reset might be the best option.
Well I've often regretted doing OS updates on my phones in the past, and KitKat has some funny privacy and content management rules that I thought might stop me from really benefitting from the freedoms that I originally loved so much from Android, or am I wrong? Can I still move Apps around? My girlfriend got 4.4 on her S4 and it really ruined it, UI got clogged with Apps she couldn't use or delete! :silly:
I don't really want to root my phone either so It's a tough decision! :
Thanks for your help.
KK to sdcard saving is easy
root takes 3 minutes
benefits ? 300000000000000 minutes of your life saved from the stress and headaches
keyboard and apps dont minimize (which is just a bonus)
For issue no.1, I used to have that. I ended up reinstalling my rom, ROMAUR 9.1, and actually reloaded all my apps via titanium backup but without their data. This helped my phone out a lot.
Before I did this, pressing the recent apps softkey button would minimize to my home screen and pressing it again would do nothing. I'd have to wait some seconds before the function would work properly. My ram would be ok as well. But I noticed it more while I was using Swype. Switching to Google keyboard made it act up less.
For issue no.2, as I said, Swype would be the main cause of lag. In some cases, it was responsible for my softkeys not being responsive. I'd have to press home and go to settings and switch the keyboard. Then it would function properly.
I think what it comes down to is the active apps running. Swype is a large apk so utilizes more ram than other keyboard apps. There may be other apps I can't narrow down to that help bog the device down.
I hope this helps!

SD Card management IS a pain. But, the advantages outweigh the cons. Given your situation, just do a clean install
Hi there, i am looking to see if anyone can help me with a Sony SP. I got this phone as an "upgrade" just over a year ago. Since then the quality of the software and the phone in general as deteriorated to such an extent that i am considering just using the phone as a door step! I am constantly faced with error messages such as "xperia home not responding" " process not responding" etc and also apps not responding. This happens on pre installed and installed apps. Whenever people try to ring me it goes straight to answer phone, i cant connect to anyone when i try to ring them. When i am lucky enough to actually open a received message the lag time is a couple of mins between trying to open the message and to actually reading the message.
I have been to the store and the phone has been given a factory reset twice and software reset as well and if anything its made it worse. Any ideas or if anyone is experiencing the misery of this happening to them would be great!
Cheers
I tried a lot of roms and i can tell you that stock rom is the worst... I am now on stock rom and it is terrible... Facebook app lags, google chrome is in the most of time unresponsive, heavy games that theoretically can be played on Xperia SP are force closing , etc... Our phone has RAM issue that can be solved with custom rom with minimal and just important apps installed... I love sony stock design of software but i think that i am going on cyanogenmod and will never return to stock again
I've been using the debloated 5.0.2 FW (pre-rooted 23.1.A.0.726 with Xposed) for months now with no issues, but one day the RAM started going crazy and has been for a month now. Every time I open an app, things in the background start restarting in a loop and multitasking is basically impossible. Restarting and clearing cache/dalvik-cache hasn't helped at all. I don't know if this is the Lollipop memory leak bug (I thought Sony had fixed this), but it's really strange that this came seemingly out of nowhere. I've attached some screenshots. Not really sure what to make of it, but memory state is in "critical" most of the time, and Google Play Services and Snapchat usage seems unusually high. Before, I had quite a few apps running in the background and the phone handled it like a champ; rarely any app refreshes, redraws, etc. Now it feels like i have 512MB of RAM again...
Anybody experiencing this? I'm thinking this could be coming from a rogue Xposed module or something. The problem is the worst if I'm using Chrome or Snapchat, but still occurs elsewhere. Any recommendations on where to find the cause?
I get exactly the same issues as you. No idea why that happens. After exiting an app and going back to Google now launcher it would've restarted so all the icons take awhile to load again and the app drawer too. This is quite annoying but a reboot fixes it. Sadly I might have to do this once a day or so, hence making the experience rather irritating.

It's happening to me too. I'm hoping it's a 5.0.2 LP bug and will be resolved with 5.1.1's release sometime this month (fingers crossed!)
That said, I've tried nearly all the stock rom iterations on this board and Wajk's 23.2.A.1.62 build seems to be the most stable, even with Xposed installed. Version 1.1 and 1.3 of his Slim rom still had restarts (I never tried 1.2), but they actually restarted, whereas other stock roms wouldn't, and the apps that restarted remained closed until reopened manually, so I missed messages and emails all the time, and experienced launcher redraws often.
Currently, I'm on 1.4 of his rom and it seems less stable, but that could be because I had dirty flashed from 1.3, and previously dirty flashed from 1.1. Version 1.5 should be out soon, so if that doesn't improve it, I'm going to clean wipe and re-install.
I have a 2013 MotoX. I haven't done anything special to it (eg, I haven't rooted it or installed a custom OS on it).
It runs fine most of the time. However, every so often, it reboots and goes through the "optimizing apps" thing that usually happens after an update. However, it doesn't seem like this is for a real update since the Android version doesn't change when I look in the settings and since it's supposed to ask before installing an update.
Does anyone have any ideas why this might be happening or how to fix it? I don't have an easy way to reproduce it, but it's been happening off and on for years.
Thanks!

Factory reset it or try clearing cache
Hi all from a noob,
Hopefully I've put this post in the correct place but if not would a mod move it for me please.
I'm almost new to Android and this is my first go at modding an Android device so please bear with me. I may have taken on too much for a noob but I am where I am.
I recently installed PixelExperience_Plus_ali-12.1 (Android 12) using TWRP 3.7, without root access, onto a Moto G6 (ali xt1925-4, single SIM) that I was given to play around with and learn some Android stuff.
Installing the OS was not as straight forward as hoped and it took several attempts but I got there in the end. The phone boots up, albeit slower than with the old Motorola Android 9 (Pie) but guess that's to be expected.
I haven't extensively run/tested the device or put in a SIM card yet, in part, because I've been getting some errors that I'd like to fix first. I've searched the forum but haven't found anything that helps and I know trying solutions for similar devices/problems, without suitable guidance, can create more issues than it solves.
I'd be very grateful for some help.
The errors messages I'm getting so far are:
1.) "android.process.media keeps stopping...." This occurs quite often and may be the main culprit of other issues.
2.) "com.android.phone keeps stopping...." This has happened 2 or 3 times in the last 24 of fiddling and appears to happen randomly. I haven't tried to use the device as a phone yet - no SIM installed.
3.) "Not enough storage space...." This appears bringing the phone out of screen lock if I've left the Play Store open when the screen lock has activated. Settings -> Storage shows "30% used - 22.55 GB free". I believe the device has 32 GB of storage.
There are no apps installed other than the ones that came with PixelExperience_Plus_ali-12.1 and Magisk 25.2 and TWRP 3.7, which were already on the phone before I did the upgrade. I believe PixelExperience_Plus_ali-12.1 come with GApps.
I haven't changed any of the settings on the phone other than the Screen Timeout from default to 2 minutes and set the WiFi password.
The Magisk app appears to have problems, though I haven't tried to use it. I wonder if I should uninstall it but I don't know what other issues this could cause if I did (uninstall it).
Apps won't install from the Play Store. When Install button is selected the screen flashes and displays "Pending" then returns to the App's install screen and occasionally a fleeting message appears saying something about low storage but it disappears too quickly to read.
The device seems to eat the battery which I only replaced, with a supposed genuine replacement, a short while ago.
Settings -> Battery suggests 24hrs use on a 100% full charge, with Android 9 it was about 4 days.
There are other issues but I don't want to make this post too long especially if resolving item 1 above resolves some or all of the others.... ever hopeful.
