Hello everyone,
I am looking for sim unlock on my new Xperia Z1 for free, for 7-8 days now... Nothing found ! No free way to do. :crying:
Then I saw some threads speaking about this file : simlock.ta. And then I was thinking "And if only this file may sim unlock my device ??"
So I would like to know:
What's this file ? And what should it do on my phone ?
Then... If I modify this file, can I Unlock my Xperia Z1 ? (locked SFR - France...)
I think understand that, if simlock.ta is deleted, there is no way to use network from any carrier. But, what about Editing simlock.ta ?

I'm looking for sim unlock too, I'm waiting for some hacker or ROM developer give me a light because I'm not from Europe and I have 0 attempts to insert the unlock code, its really hard to me, I have Samsung galaxy S2 locked to orange and I simply install a Galaxy S SIM unlock application on my device and done, the device got unlocked.
I thought with Xperia Z1 would be like that and then I bought, unfortunately I have that issue, a blocked Xperia Z1 .

Yes, Sim Unlock seems to be more easy on Galaxy devices. A friend tell me to try a custom ROM but no result, my Xperia Z1 still ask me the unlock code :/.
I think Simlock infos are stocked in the bootloader because of the carriers lock it systematicaly... But this file awake some questions in my head and... if there is any link with sim unlocking. I want to know how .

I just don't get it, be Samsung or sony or motorola, every device of these companies run android on their devices, android is the same thing at last, I really don't see the difficult. At past a guy hacked NASA and another perform jailbreak on Iphones, what's the matter of simply unlock Sim on Xperia?
Things way more difficult were done before and by the way a unlock sim system already were done for Samsung with android, this could be like a model for others devices, or not, does really the phone brand cares that much about this?

Hi all,
New to the Xperia Scene. I've rooted and unlocked HTC's in the past with sucess but I've come into contact with a XPERIA Z locked to the "3" network.
How would I unlock it & remove the "3" crap off it and flash a STOCK rom - Not really interested in a custom rom.
Thanks for any help given
EDIT - Just checked the Rooting Status info and it says Bootloader Unlock Allowed : NO - Am I out of luck?

You will need to get a SIM unlock code either directly from 3 UK or search for a service online (Usually they are about 15-20£) if you want to get rid of SIM unlock. Then you can,but don't have to unlock the BOOTLOADER (if you wanna flash custom ROMs not based on stock such as CM, AOKP etc you will need to unlock it but bare in mind that Bravia Engine 2 will be permanently lost unless you backup the phone). If you want stock based ROMs just root the phone using one of the methods found in xda. You can also checkout my youtube channel for a video guide on how to root and get custom recovery. Good luck
Yes - all UK carrier Xperias have non-unlockbale bootloaders. You are out of luck.
If you have any desire to go Custom on any phone brand, always stick to factory sim free unbranded. Period.
You've also posted this in the wrong section.

Thanks for the heads up.
I would just want to put my UK Orange SIM in and remove the 3 branded logo's etc. If I can't do this, I'll eBay the phone.

You can - get your sim unlock code, dial *#*#7465625#*#* in the dialer, input code then press unlock (this saves the trouble of finding another simcard. You of course need to use another sim card to test it - but hey, you wouldn't be unlocking otherwise )
You will then need to root and install a recovery - tons of threads about on that one. Then just flash any generic firmware (I'm using [NUT]'s Belgian Generic one) - ti won't have any carrier crap on it at all.
Alternatively, once rooted just use titanium backup to uninstall any stuff you don't like.
I've got a Three XZ as well and the bootloaders are NOT unlockable - there may be some joy with a KEXEC module if any of the devs get one to work, but until then you will be stuck with stock variants. I'm on the verge of ebaying myself for this reason.
For any devs who even fancy attempting this, there is a $400 bounty over at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2287897

If someone can unlock a 3 or any carrier bootloader without JTAG and Sony proprietary software then it will be a first.
Don't post questions in Development, thread moved.
Just received the XSP as an upgrade on T-Mobile UK and was disappointed to discover via the service menu that the bootloader is unlockable. Forgive me for asking but does this mean that there is absolutely no chance that at any point in the future I will be able to unlock it? I would like to use custom roms and want to know if I kight as well look for a new phone. This was never a problem on my old Optimus Black.
Thanks in advance.

Praise the (Doom)Lord! Will this allow us to unlock the boot then andflash custom roms?
Just to make it clear bootloader is locked this means no custom kernel which might mean custom ROMs are out ie. Cm,akop,PAC etc
You will be able to root using doomlord exploit and in time will get cwm for locked bootloader so we be able to use modded stock ROMs.
As it stands only root is available for locked bootloader hope this helps

Great, thanks. This is exactly what I needed to know. Guess I'll have to be patient then..
There is a way to unlock your bootloader. You must get a SIM unlock code, unlock your SP and send an email to Sony with some data like Imei, unlock code, etc. Then a messenger will be sent to pick your phone and lucky, Sony will unlock your phone.

Few days ago sent an email to Sony asking about this issue. Here in Spain there was a global complaint from Xperia U users asking for open the possibility of unlock their bootloaders: not to unlock it but to change the "unlockable" state of the phone. After the debate, Sony says people could send their phones to Sony attaching the respective unlock code with which they'd unlocked (SIM Unlock). Then Sony would send the telephones with the bootloader unlockable.
PS: Maybe he meant "not unlockable" instead "unlockable". If it's unlockable then he doesn't have any problem!

Yes, I meant *not* unlockable. I actually live in Spain so this service from Sony would be very useful, could you tell me how I can do this?

Yeah, mate. You have to send a message to Sony saying you've (sim) unlocked your phone and you want to unlock your bootloader. They will send you all the information you need to go through with the process.
How can I install a custom ROM without an unlocked bootloader?
My phone says its bootloader cannot be unlocked
Mine too , it's must to be a solution to unlock the bootloader...
No, there is no solution
If it says it cannot be unlocked then it cannot be unlocked
Look in the development section for stock based custom roms that can be installed with a locked bootloader
To my experience it needs to be sim unlocked first in order to be bootloader unlocked. In a Xperia Z it said it couldn't unlock bootloader, i purchased unlock code, got it unlocked and then reflashed stock image. After that the status on "bootloader unlock allowed" was changed to yes.

Please provide proof of that, because this has never happened before and would be fantastic news
Also, some sim locked phones can have bootloaders unlocked and some sim free phones have bootloaders that cannot be unlocked. SO your logic is wrong.

Can't provide proof as 1) the bootloader was already unlocked 2) I don't even have the phone anymore.
I don't know if you find my logic right or wrong it was what happened to MY experience with one phone.
I'm pretty sure devs can give you a technical explanation about why it can or can't happen.

OK thanks.
I know what the devs will say. They will say it cant happen. This has been talked about ad infinitum across various xperia devices.
Also, if your boot was already unlocked then how did you know the status changed?
Thanks anyway.

When i got the phone (telcel mexico) it said the bootloader was not allowed to be unlocked.
I purchased an unlock code. Entered the code, unlocked the phone.
I flashed an upgraded FW via FTF
typed *#*#SERVICE#*#* and boom bootloader unlock statys changed to yes
That's how i know the status changed. So basically that's my story. I thought it could work with every device.
@gregbradley maybe the sim unlock method really works to change unlock bootloader status YES..bcs it works for some sony device, and we need to test this on Z1.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1896553
There is nothing in that thread that confirms this. Plus the test point method to unofficially unlock the bootloader was stopped by Sony nearly 2 years ago.
But please, delve into this again if you want. But trust me it is a dead end and does not work. If it was easy as sim unlocking and flashing a ftf do you not think that would have been done by now.
Some seriously good devs have been working on this ever since the test point method was closed.

Hi,
I have a Sony Xperia SP and to perform all the procedures to unlock the Bootloader in the initial part that says if our machine can unlock the bootloader or not , mine says it is not allowed .
My questions are:
Why is this unlock on some devices is allowed and others not?
Even if the information that shows my device , it is not possible to unlock the bootloader , I wonder if there's another way to do it or even impossible to do ?
hug
Your service provider doesn't want you to unlock your bootloader and there is no way of unlocking if it says not allowed.

By the way... do you now if its possible, someday, create the version 4.4 KitKat in *.ftf extension so I can install through the Flashtool?
In simple words no. But you can install cm11 on locked bootloaders. Just search for it in the development sections.
Hit thanks if helped.

I also have the bootloader status set to NO.At the moment, there is no way to make it say YES,unless you SIM unlock it(It must work,as in most cases it is the SIM lock which changes the status to NO).
good afternoon, I have a problem with my xperia z1 c6903 when unlocking the bootloader I get a message that says your phone can not be officially unlocked that I should thank.
Apparently Sony has blocked the ability to unlock the bootloader on certain devices.
This is most likely the case if you got your phone from your carrier. Do you have a branded Z1?
You can also look up if this is the case by doing the following:
1. Open dialler and enter *#*#7378423#*#*
2. Go to Service info > Configuration > Rooting Status.
3. "Bootloader unlock allowed" should say Yes
If it doesn't, then at least the official way of unlocking your device won't work.
Any "not official" way to unlock the bootloader? Mine is locked too and i want to install something new in that old one. Thanks in advance.
Mine says not posible but i read somewere that can be done
That's the thing, is an old smartphone today, i don't understand why only certains models can be unlocked. Now im on last oficial os (5.1.1). I get it root but i cant unlock the bootloader in any way.
