It all depends what you use your phone for, It's no problem to drain your battery in 3 hours while playing power hungry games. So screen on time does not say much. It highly fluctuates depending what's running on your device. On average KitKat gives you a little longer battery then lollipop

Ok
i dont have any game on my note
regular use... Whatsapp, mail...

After flashing a rom (stock or other) the phone will be hot and that can have a huge affect on battery life if you try to test it straight after that. Give it a full discharge and recharge, check to see if your mobile coverage is weak too as that can affect battery a lot no matter what rom you are on. Especially if you use apps like WhatsApp, which try to get push messages from a weak signal area.

In my case lollipop gives more screen on time , around 6 hours and 16hrs life in total .Where as the KitKat standby time is better . Really depends on usage , but 3 hours SOT only in Whatsapp and mails is pretty bad
Install better battery stats or wake lock detector , de-bloat unwanted system apps and flash a custom kernel and tweak CPU profiles .. I am sure u will churn out 5+hrs SOT after fine tuning . Good luck !

On my lollipop before i had only 3 hours screen time and my battery will be under 20% after 9 hours usage. Now i downgraded to kitkat, as you can see i got a suberb battery life. Playing CoC, facebook, viber, emails, calls, and browser. And my phone was only charged at 90% when i unplugged it. Im in the office most of the time, cant play on the phone often

Have you tried turning off the features of your phone that you don't use like Bluetooth, GPS, Wi-Fi connectivity and the mobile data usage.

[Q] Battery draining problem - help needed please

I've got a UK release HTC One (M7) that was bought unlocked SIM free in July last year. It has never been rooted, but has had all official updates applied so far (Kitkat 4.4.2 the latest, still waiting on Sense 6.0).
The phone battery lasts a few days on standby, but actually use the phone for anything (calls, texts, surf the net, simple game or listen to music) the battery drains at roughly 1% every 2 mins (It's a good job I don't play graphic games, watch video or stream). I factory reset the phone and deleted everything on it, charged it to 100% and in the 2 hours it took me to set it up again and re-download apps and install them the battery dropped to 38%, so based on that I'd be lucky to get 4 hours use out of the phone on a full charge.
I have battery saver on with roaming, syncing, GPS, Bluetooth, mobile data all disabled as standard, with only wireless enabled (but that goes off when the phone sleeps - screen is set to low brightness and 1 minute), I've also gone through every app and disabled those I can't delete and that give me the option like Blinkfeed, FB, Twitter, Maps, Google Music, Play, Drive etc, but the battery still drains quickly - any ideas please? would rooting and using a custom ROM help?
Cheers
Try a battery monitoring app like GSAM or BBS to check for apps and wakelocks, which are causing the drain.

So you got 2 Hours of screen on time.. I'd say that's pretty decent, considering all the app installs you must've done. Typical battery life on this phone would get you anywhere between two hours to six hours of screen on time. In the remaining 38%, you'd probably get an hour and 15 or 30 minutes. What you were doing after you reset the phone wan't normal usage.. If you want to improve the battery life, read the posts on the battery stats thread and ask for recommendations there. Also, try keeping your phone cool, it'll help the battery a lot. Basically, what i've noticed is as soon as the phone gets hot, your battery gets over much quicker.

[Q] xperia z battery help

Hi! I have a major problem with my phone:
Please help me to get at least 3-4 hours of screen per one charging,
From the very beginning of the phone (with android 4.2) the maximum screen time was 2,5 - to a maaaximum of 3 hours per charging. The average usage was: maybe 30 minutes of call time, 20 sms, 1/2 hrs of web browsing/facebook, maybe 2 hours of music with bluetooth headset, 20 min of gaming - not heay games.
After 4.3 update the battery life dropped.
But with 4.4 android I barely get 1 -1,5 hrs of screen time (considering the average use of the phone written before) - i deactivated location.
- i checked the battery usage but google services didn't drain a lot of battery power like some users complained. I mean I could have survived with the battery consumption in android 4.2 (despite some users had 7 hrs of screen time), but i am curios how to get more battery life (now i miss those 2,5 hrs of screen time :/). If it helps i can upload some usage stats, but there is nothing unusual in them, only the things i use.
As a conclusion i wonder how can i make the battery last longer or how can i optimize my phone to get a decent battery life? Thank you all in advance.

Listening to music via a bluetooth headset and playing games consumes a lot of battery. Try to enable stamina mode and stop playing games. Besides that use WiFi instead of mobile data.
Try all this and you will see that the battery lasts longer
i have stamina mode enabled. If its weekend i don't listen to music (i only listen at work) and the battery still doesn't lasts any longer. Do you find an average of 1 hr and 15 minutes of screen time to be a good battery usage time?

No it is not.
To check your battery open service menu and go to service tests - battery.
How many apps do you have installed? Do you have root access?
i have a total of 6 menu pages of apps, but i barely use 3-4 apps. I looked into running apps and only 7-8 extra apps are running constantly besides the normal processess, but in usage stats they don;t appear as battery consumers (ex. kaspersky). I never had root access into this phone. I'm waiting until there will be no more official updates for this model
- at sevice tests, battery it says: good, no need to replace it

Root and an unlocked bootloader are two different things
With root you could install battery stats for better analytics of your batterylife and appops to control the permissions of your apps.
i know, i had my previous phone routed (xperia T), and i installed custom roms in it etc (especially because of lagging). But before 4.4, the software of tihs phone worked perfect (no lags) so i had no interest in forcing running apps to close. but as i read, hope in a few weeks we get the update, if it's good i'll gona keep it and root the phone, else =>downgrade to 4.3 followed also by root

Yeah I had the T, too, and 4.1.2 was a pain.
Please report back when you've testet your battery without bluetooth and gaming
When I'm at University I listen about 2 - 3 hours per day to music via bluetooth. My screen on time is about 2-3 hours. But I don't play and use wifi mostly.
ok, i will. Thanks

Please help !

guys i dont know wtf is this ...my phone battery is 100 when i shut it down and reboot it is 14 %..after another reboot it is 50%..and in a custom recovery while flashing a custom rom and during the first boot IT NEEDS MORE THAN 30 % ..it drains more thatn 15% just while flashing a ROM..(viper rom etc..)
now while normal using the battery doesnt drain like hell..it gives me 5 hours SOT or even 6 ..what i notice that my device is heating up like hell in nomral using (facebook messnger and facebook and whatsapp)NO BACKGROUND APPS RUNNING just these apps..
do you think i have a bad board ?or i have a dead battery ?
Hi TS, Im not an expert on any of this but what I suggest is to download and install an app to check you battery usage from full to atleast 10% to have a better look into things. It most likely that something is making your processor to run in full resulting in need of lot of juice and making your battery heating much.
Also as far as I understand, it can also be factored by the kernel you are using.
Again im no expert so please be guided accordingly.

Flashing ROMs and booting for the first time drains a lot and your phone heats like hell while updating apps. That's normal. Facebook mesenger and whatsapp are known to be really big battery drainers, and if they drain your battery, they heat up your phone too. If you can get 4-5 hours SOT on one charge, you don't have to worry about the state of your battery - it's good

Battery drain

Hello people
I bought z3compact, and I started to have big problems with battery drain, I tried to downgrade on 5.0.2, then tried factory, then 6.0.1 beta, and at least I tried custom rom Lolipop Slim and everytime is same story, I barely had one day battery juice, and when i go to sleep, I lose more than 20% thorough the night, when I go to settings number one in battery using is Cell standby, SOT I have barely 2 hours.
Is there any help, I think the radio is problem.
Thank you very much

Check the mobile radio active time in the apps that show the greatest battery drain. If any of them are more than an hour when you're sleeping, then the big has bitten you. Connect to wifi as a workaround. There's also a supposed fix for the mobile radio active bug somewhere on XDA. Try searching and food luck!

so I tried everything, and the result is that when mobile goes to sleep I have to many wakelocks, around 3500 wakelocks in one night, but when screen is on i have on 10 percent around 1 hour of SOT, please help me

Look at which apps are using the most battery under settings/power management/battery usage.
UNINSTALL facebook, which will be the biggest eater of battery, access it through the webpage
If you have a rooted phone, install AFWall., then restrict whatsapp, twitter,*messging apps* to wifi only, see if that makes a difference. Once you see a difference in batterybehavior, slowly let them back onto mobile data one at a time until you find the culprit (whatsapp probably)
Google Play Services is a usual suspect. Start by turning off synchronise on your google account.
There's a fix for google here.
If you have poor reception of mobile signal in your house, trying turning the phone to GSM.
Settings/wifi/advanced wifi - scanning always available OFF - keep wifi on during sleep ONLY WHEN PLUGGED IN
Research on the BBS thread
If you have a rooted phone download Disableservice from the playstore.
Once it's installed, open the system tab, open Google Play Services, then untick (disable) the following:
ConfigFetchService
FitnessSyncAdapterService
GoogleLocationManagerService
GoogleLocationService
NetworkLocationService
ProximitySettingInjectorService
UserPresenceService
WearableControlService
WearableService
WearableSyncService
then reboot your phone.
Disabling these from running should have no impact on your phone, it doesn't for me, and will give you 10-15% more battery life.
The other thing that extended my battery life was deleting the cached data. Settings\Storage and hold down on Cached data until you get a popup asking you to delete it. I know it sounds bizarre, but it really worked.
As a last resort you could try amplify as it is good at reducing wakelocks, but to get it running requires xposed as well as entering lots and lots of changes to the phone timings, getting these wrong will stuff your phone! Beware

There's an extremely great guide here on XDA on how to save battery Here check this out
It incorporates Greenify which is used to hibernate apps, Amplify which is to limit wakelocks and many more, personally Ive been noticing a great improvement, I only lose 1% per 8 hours per night of sleep
battery
So I tried everything that you wrote, and last hope was KITKAT, and baterry is little bit better but not enough, barely I can use it one day, so when I am on sleep battery % drops quite fast, about 4% per hour, but when I have screen on I have 20- 25 minute in 10 % of battery. do you think it is battery bad or software bug?
Thank you
So guys i put marshmallow, and when the screen is on all day i have 6 h of SOT, but when it sleeps i have barely 1-2 h SOT, what the hell is going on with my phone
Screen on time measures just that, the amount of time the screen is on. You can drain the battery by playing music all day and get 0 hours of screen on time. It is not and should not be used as an indicator of battery life. Send us another screen shot of your usage statistics

Horrible battery life

I have read awesome stuff about this device's battery life and SOT, but I barely get 3.5 to 4 hours of SOT. Does anyone have a possible solution? This is ironic considering my previous crappy lenovo phone would give me 6-7 hours of SOT. Any battery saving kernel or ROM would also be appreciated, as I have unlocked bootloader and am running stock oos (latest open beta) rooted with magisk. Please advice, as if this is a hardware problem then I will return it ASAP.
Unfortunately, this thread has been made many times. No matter how specific your case is you have to analyze your usage.
But, if you need you can make yourself a quick checklist.
Whats apps are installed?
What do you do with your phone?
How many things do you sync?
How often do you game?
Do you have social media apps installed? Instagram, facebook, snapchat etc
What browser do you use?
And where did you read 7 hours SoT?
The reason being for people posting that they get 7-8 hours SoT is because those people use their phone all the time. If you look at their screenshots their idle time is non existent. With my phone that i've done a custom debloating and removed system apps that are worthless battery hogs, I get about 5 hours SoT. I leave my phone idle a lot. Idle still drains battery. If you use your phone on and off through the day, 5 hours SoT is really good. Thats what you should expect. If you get 3-4 hours SoT with normal usage patterns then you have an issue. Id say for every hour of idle time expect to lose perhaps 5 minutes of SoT. Your phone is technically a computer, its doing things constantly so it is never truly idle.
Go OOS 3.5.4. Greenify all apps Plus Play services, have xposed and install amplify to control wakelocks. Use L Speed, Keep data/wifi on only when using.
Why are you guys so obsessed with SoT? I usually get 4-5 hours with one day and half usage and at least 2 hours of Bluetooth + Spotify. As previously stated, the battery life varies on usage. Just take a look on possible wake locks if battery stats are weird. Stop focus on trying to beat the SoT world record and actually start to enjoy your phone as the beast it is
Just use Betterbatterystats and u will find the culprit.
Sent from my m1 note using Tapatalk
3.5 hours is below average so there is some app which is draining your battery but around 4.5 hours / 5.5 hours sot is normal and average battery life, if you see those people which post pics with over 8 hours of sot they are lying and are faking the results, trust me so dont bother with it..
Install betterybatterystats and see which app is draining ur battery and unistall it or use greenify on it
