Kitkat - Lolipop - Cyogenmod.
Which one has the best battery time for you?
- My vote is for Kitkat (23.0.A.2.93)
People who vote for "OTHER", please explain about your choice.
I've had much better battery life on KitKat. Up to 3 days with Stamina mode on. With Lollipop if I avoid using the phone too often battery lasts for 2 days max.

thank you for your reply.
Having great battery life on .62 HK lollipop firmware. Also amazing sound quality unlike the other lollipop builds :|

Haven't used it a lot on Kitkat (I forced the update a few days after getting it), but I'm having great battery life on Lollipop (.28).
Two and a half days of moderate use (Data and/or Wifi always on, Autosync, no Stamina, GPS most of the time...) with almost 5 hours of SOT.
Which lolipop firmware is getting good battery life? Because i heard that lolipop battery life was bad?
In Lollipop, it helps to disable Sony's "background data queueing" in Power management.

Dude, I'm sorry, but nobody will be able to answer a question like that simply because it depends on what you do with the phone.
Unless one of the fw doesn't have a known bug or unless you do the exact same things on both firmwares (same duration of calls, same amount of sms sent, same amount of music listened to, same amount of background data, same apps installed, etc) you will never know for sure...

One of the key features of Lollipop is Project Volta, which is supposed to improve battery life, specifically standby time. I know the update has only been out a few days, but for those that have it, how much has your battery life improved?
It seems drastically better for me. Enough so that I'm going to keep the phone after thinking about getting rid of it after early battery life underwhelmed me. Where I used to finish the day at 10% or so, I'm now closer to 30-40%.
What I've found is that L without Greenify has battery life like Kitkat did with Greenify. Now that we have root we'll see if greenify makes it even better.
It's been a solid improvement for me, at least when I'm connected to wifi and the phone isn't being actively used. Probably only losing about 1% an hour now, as opposed to more like 3% before.
Project Volta optimizes battery consumption but app developers have to support the APIs, see here:
https://developer.android.com/about/versions/android-5.0.html#Power
So, basically, Google and Motorola apps probably already use this, but battery life will not be so much better until app developers introduce support for these APIs

Battery Issues
I may be in the minority here, but my battery life has significantly decreased since the update. I don't have specific figures but I do know that on normal usage, whereas my battery used to be at about 70% after approximately 4 hours, it's now down to about 50%. I suspect it is due to some apps that are not optimized for 5.0 that are restarting again and again in the background. Either way, I hope this issue is corrected because I am having a hard time walking away from the charger for very long.
Mine is much better then before on KK.
Hi, i upgraded my z3 compact with lollipop but downgraded to kitkat because of bad battery life, now the battery is indeed better tha lollipop but its still not as great as it was at the beginning.
It drops fairly 1% after few minutes of surfing web and it droped 2-3 %in last 7 minutes whiles i was posting these. I did a clean install of kitkat. Could you please tell me that does your battery drop 2-3 % easily for searching through forum's, and also it drops easily if i install apps from sd card at around 1% every 2-3 apps i install.
i flashed 760 and i had bad battery life, then ota .28 and now i have 2 days of battery life ^^

sounds good, I'll have a try.
Ok i downgraded to kitkat and i kinda like it more except the icons and few material changes, here i the things i noticed
1- louder ? sounds in headphones (not sure) but definitely in notification
2- better battery life , charging while playing games
3- consistent battery ? life
4- i like kitkat notification better than lollipop,
5- may be a little smooth
6- ui was better and original than sony did with lollipop. App drawer was better using full space unlike new one showing a tab.
7- i liked Walkman player app more, unlike lollipop ? switching between clear audio is easy.
Hey you didn't replied my original question, can you do following testing for me.
1- battery drop in standby while you sleep, i. E 8-9 hour without touching phone ?
2- battery drop while installation of apk from sd card
3- battery drop through speakers, how much it dropped with each song played at full volume.
I think i will not upgrade to lollipop until they feature raw support to cameras. Kitkat is more stable for me.
Thanks.

i am having the same battery life degrading problem , my version is android 5.0.2 and build number is 23.1.A.0.726 . can you tell me what updates did you mean in your reply pls ...
If you can live without lollipop material design, kitkat is way more battery ? friendly, try downgrading, i don't feel upgrading now just for new version. Though raw camera ? support can change my mind
I only really use my z1 for Spotify, LINE, reddit and Facebook. Currently the battery life isn't so great as it needs charged during the day..
What's the best rom/firmware etc to flash which will give me the best battery performance?
I've not been on xda for quite some time so I'm a bit out of the loop,I did some looking but couldn't find a definitive answer.
Cheers!
??
I'm on stock but rooted lollipop, with Stamina mode and Greenify helping each other out. Also I underclock down to 1GHz but I'm not quite sure if it helps.
On all my past devices running the stock firmware almost always makes the most out of your battery.

I am on stock firmware already, I got greenify an the donate version but after testing it yesterday it didn't seem to make much difference.
Perhaps this battery is just dying cheers for the advice though

Sorry for late reply, didn't get notified.
I think that's normal pretty normal battery if you use Spotify+LINE+reddit+Facebook with 2 out of 4 signal o__o
Well the thing is that when you play music on spotify, your phone cannot sleep.
You should try to get a better signal/reception of wi-fi and cellular. I have read that these without good signal could cause battery drain, as you see, cell standby at 9%. Sorry I don't know how to improve those but :/ yeah..
Maybe try "Stamina Mode" if you didn't activate it (It should have a + logo next to the battery when activated)?
Lower your brightness if you can, that's the biggest drain!
At last, for a rom suggestion,I don't have because I'm stuck on stock roms ._. , maybe try some custom roms when you have free time

Yeah it's not too bad I guess, I just use it more than I realise. Already running mxrom, I've found stamina mode doesn't make much difference.
Thanks for the tips!
hi everyone, my droid turbo drains battery on stand by stated as "cell standby". this problem was on lollipop and after the update it is still almost same. it drains like 10-13% overnight. any solutions pleas?
Having the exact problem on lollipop, haven't upgraded yet cause I plan to unlock bootloader sometime. Even my Moto X 2014 used to give me more battery life, though it had a tiny 2300mAh battery. I was thinking maybe I had a bad battery but now I don't seem to be the only one having this trouble. Maybe you should try Greenify & Amplify. There are also some pretty good Battery Saving mods available on XDA, go give them a shot.
Unlock bootloader, root, install stock-based, debloated, tweaked ROM:
Computerfreek274_MM_1.0.4 Marshmallow 6.0.1 Stock rooted VOLte Debloated

@Computerfreak, thanks for such an excellently crafted ROM!
The battery performance is truly fantastic as is the audio quality.
FYI, I installed the stock ROM and thought that I had done something wrong when the battery drain was so high. @ChazzMatt suggested/recommended giving your version a go and I went with his suggestion. I am beyond glad that I did!
The battery drain went from me being able to watch it drop each minute to it not moving a single degree in over an hour. Six hours later and it's only dropped 7%-8%. (Wi-Fi was on for 5 hours and the music player was in use for 1 hour.) Nice!
The audio quality improvement was more than simply noticable in the car this afternoon (Mannheim Steamroller's "Christmas"); it was smooth and clear enough that I thought that it sounded like I had higher-end speakers/amp. Extra nice!
Your tweaks are much appreciated - much appreciated!
BTW, all of your apparently long-time fans kept mentioning Pon-3 and Xposed, so I'm off to explore.
Thanks, again for a wonderful job!

Ever since I upgraded my Note 4 to Marshmallow, the SOT sucks. The Standby time is very good, it only drains battery faster than lollipop when it is in use. Even with that issue, I still don't want to downgrade to Lollipop because the UI is more fluid, more responsive and since I upgraded, I have not experienced hang on my Note. I already have the best tools for extending battery (Greenify, PowerNap and Amplify) and already debloated my ROM. Any suggestions how to extend the SOT on MM or can anyone explains why?
What's the SOT you are getting?

Seems like you are not using network always because your screenshot is in airplane mode.
Nevermind, found the culprit that is draining my battery when I'm connected to a network. The wifi scanning and the bluetooth scanning on location settings.
