As far as I know any OTA update will remove root, you would need a pre-rooted firmware.

Hi,
Are you on UBL? if that so, relock first your bootloader then try to update again.

sorry, apparently my reply was mixed up with you.
im not sure if you'll lose root but just to make sure, download a pre-rooted .270 FTF or create your own pre-rooted FTF using this method

Is it possible to make a flashable zip out of OTA?

Yes but you will have to use the Sony Companion program, you will connect your phone and click repair, this will download the firmware, but make sure you do not flash it to your phone, the firmware when downloaded will be in /ProgramData/Sony, not sure if that's the right directory, but it will be about there, then you will need to use FlashTools to decrypt the firmware, then you will need to create a bundle before a ftf file is created. After that its just a point of making a flash pre-rooted zip. Way too much hassle, but I have done it.

No need to do any of that if your boot loader is unlocked. Just flash a custom kernel.

For downgrading firmware version? That's not really a good choice, flashing with a tft file is clearly better, flashing a custom kernel can hard brick your phone, avoid your warranty and can't be restored with SUS and PCC...

No, he asked how to root. If he has already unlocked the bootloader then the simplest way to root is flash a custom kernel. Warranty is already broken and what is the point in unlocking the bootloader unless you are going to flash a custom kernel anyway

Yeah but flashing a custom kernel is not necessary for having root on the latest firmware.

No its not, but its the easiest way to get root if you have already unlocked.
And please tell me the point of unlocking if you are not going to flash a custom kernel.
Its harmless as long as you flash the correct kernel. It carries the same risk as flashing anything.

You have downgraded in order to root then to do an OTA upgrade back to .257 if I am right.
In which case, do not worry that the camera does not work in .534, just root it, and upgrade OTA.
Then try the camera.
EDIT
Also you need to clear the data in all camera related apps

This is not possible at the moment, you have to wait.
I'm working on getting it rooted as we speak, i'll update you on my progress, shouldn't be hard.
Okay it's a long winded approach to get rooted, but i guess it will have to do for the time being... Until a new updated rooting tool is available.
Okay here goes, you will need these things:
SuperSU Install zip
Doomkernel v08 kernel.elf file
Stock Sony 4.3 kernel, attached to this post.
A brain and common sense.
Lets go then, first install the stock android 4.3 FTF....
Once this is done disconnect your phone, put it into fastboot mode and install the Doomkernel. Now upon boot, go into recovery, and install the SuperSU zip normally.
Once this is done, power off your phone (Holding down the power and volume up)
Go into Fastboot mode again, and install the provided stock Sony 4.3 Kernel.
Unplug your phone, boot it, and there you go, rooted stock android 4.3.
If you have any questions ask, no question is too stupid, or PM me and i'll help you best I can.

does it stay rooted?
OTA yes PCC and SEUS not!
OTA only patches the required files and PCC and SEUS rewrite the entire /system and thus removes root

[Q] 4.4.4 update failed

Hello. I just tried to update downloading via wifi. It downloads successfully, but later on restart and attempt to install this update, process fails and phone restarts back to previous 4.4.2. http://i.imgur.com/GoJrjqu.png
Phone is not rooted, I have never done anything to it what could cause this, just regular updates.
Message says "Could not install new software version. Try again." - http://i.imgur.com/3terGra.jpg
Have anybody had this issue, contacted Sony support or something?

OTA will always fail when you're rooted, as signature checks will fail. You need to flash a pre-rooted 157 after wiping system and caches (not data).

Install a non-rooted, fresh copy of 157. Close Sony Updater tool(s).
Flash the 108 kernel using Flashtool. Close Flashtool.
Root using XperiaRoot. Close XperiaRoot.
Flash the 157 kernel using Flashtool. Close Flashtool.
Install XZDR Dual Recovery, and use TWRP from now on. CWM is old and should be killed with fire.
Send me $50 and a large pepperoni pizza.
