I've been enjoying this phone quite a lot but the headphone volume seemed a bit too low for my headphones (more than enough for earbuds though).
Disclaimer: I am running Clean Rom so the file may be different on stock. Also I am not responsible for your phone bursting into flames or you becoming deaf.
I tried to do the same mixer_paths.xml mod I did on my Nexus 6. The file on the S6 is a lot more convoluted so it took a while to find since it's different between S6 variants.
The lines to modify are found on 594 and 595 of the file. The file is found at /system/etc/mixer_paths.xml

By default it is set to 32 but I upped it to 50. Now it's more than enough to power my headphones at a good volume.
Make sure to backup the original mixer_paths.xml file. After editing make sure to set the permissions to 0644.
EDIT: Not sure how I missed this before but I found a cleaner way that also works for the speaker. Instead of directions (for now), here's a link to my current one: https://mega.co.nz/#!ac0xCR7B!bKO5EWJOtPuowYbYjKrGawaXG_BivbJjJ3ey_1TnkzQ
Copy to /system/etc/ and change permissions as stated before.
EDIT: For the curious types, the lines to edit for speaker volume start at 2229 and 2238 for headphone volume. I do not recommend setting them much higher as you run the chance of blowing your speaker or your ears

I used the Root Browser in ROM Toolbox to find the file and Turbo editor to actually go to the proper line and edit it. If you are doing this on the phone you might need to save the file on the sdcard because Turbo Editor won't save directly to the /system/etc folder. Then transfer the file to the correct directory and make the changes in permissions.
Thank you sir. The deed is done.

Good job and great mod.
I have a question. What line or lines should be changed to increase the speaker's volume? I know the lines for the S5 but S6 is totally different.
Thanks in advance!

Might be an issue with turbo editor, try a different text editor perhaps, like Quick Edit

HELP!
I think I screwed up.
I made a copy of my original mixer_paths.xml and saved it to my PC.
Copied your modified xml and pasted it into my system/etc and overwrote the old one.
Volume didn't seem to change so I rebooted.
Now I'm stuck on the white ATT logo boot screen.
Only thing I can think of is I didn't check or change permissions after pasting your file in.
Did that screw it up? Any way to fix it?
I can get into download mode and recovery still, it wont get past the ATT logo when trying to boot.

Not changing permissions could have done that, although I am not 100% sure. I did make sure to try it on my own device before posting, and I have not run into any issues.
As far as fixing it goes, it you cannot boot at all then you may just have to flash stock firmware via ODIN, as I cannot think of any other way to do this.

Bluetooth
Does this raise the volume also through Bluetooth? ?
I'm back. Had to ODIN my phone back to stock and re-root with PingPong. All I can assume is me forgetting to double check the permissions when I overwrote the stock file with this file made it where the phone couldn't read/write something on startup and it froze on the ATT logo.
Where I'm at now...... I've backed up the stock mixer_paths.xml saved it in a safe place, then overwrote the stock file in the system/etc folder.... this time I remembered to fix permissions on the file.
The phone still works, still reboots, still plays sounds etc..... but no increase in volume.
I've looked at the xml files and see a few tweaks on lines 2229 up but none on 594/595. So now I'm confused as to which lines do what and what values to give them.
Bumping up to 50 on 594/595 was mentioned originally, but I see tweaks of:
26 up to 27 line 2229
32 up to 35 line 2231
117 up to 125 line 2237
I guess my question is, if I wanted to do it myself.....
Which line(s) in the stock file should I tweak to get my wireless bluetooth headphones and/or wireless speaker cube(s) louder?
Will that same tweak make WIRED headphones louder too?
Dont need the built in phone speaker louder.
Thanks in advance for the help.

hey guys, I really don't like the keyclick sound that is Default for the Captivate. I don't want to turn it off, I would like to find/use a replacement.
Can anyone tell me how to replace this sound file? Also were is a good place to find replacements?
I can tell you how, but not where to find a replacement.
1) Grab a terminal emulator or Root Explorer (I prefer Root Explorer myself for this one).
2) Navigate to /system/media/audio/ui
3) If I'm correct in assuming that you mean the keyclick sound from browsing around menus and such in the phone then the file you want is "Effect_Tick.ogg"
4) Copy it to your sd card, and then to your computer and edit/replace it as you see fit. Just make sure it's the same audio length as the old one. Save it as an .ogg file or it won't work on the phone.
5) When putting it back onto the phone, make sure you make a BACKUP of the old one. Just rename the one that's already there with a ".bak" at the end. Then paste in your editing file.
6) Reboot and test it out.
Hope that works. I made that up off the top of my head cause I'm not about to try it out myself cause I turned the sound off in the settings. But it should work as that's the usual method of replacing any file on the phone. Good luck, let me know how it works out for you.
You are the man!!! That worked fantastic! I wasn't actually looking for the Effect_Tick, it was the TW_Touch sound that I wanted to replace, I found it in the folder by listening to them and figuring out which one it was.
THank you again, at least I know how to change something next time if needed
Wow, thank both of you. Never thought of changing the sound, but that would be hilarious to have a pew or pow sound. Think ofbeing a kid with two army men. Thanks guys.

Glad I could help. Also, FWIW, TW_Touch.ogg and Effect_Tick.ogg are the same sound. The only difference is the name, which actually makes TW_Touch a few bytes bigger.

Still trying to find some good ones. I am currently using the SIP.ogg sound found in the same folder as the others. Its more of a soft click sound. I am still looking for a really nice replacement though, so if anyone of you find one please share, as I will do the same.
You know the keyboard isn't making a click sound with Cog Rom. I wonder if its turned off somewhere in the ROM because I have keyboard clicks turned on but hear nothing.
I like to have regular dial tone for the dial key pad. Know how to fix this?
They are regular. The sound the same as every other phone I've used.

I would try and get them for you, but I haven't the slightest clue on how to convert the .caf file the iPhone uses to .ogg for Android. But looking around, there are some cool mods for dial tones out there. I found this one and now I want to do it! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4J4RfiTi08Q

I FOUND A WAY!!!!
If anyone can provide with me a copy of the iPhones dial tone sounds, I can format them for our Captivates. Based off of what I'm seeing from my iTouch, the directory layout should be /System/Library/Audio/UISounds. I need all the files that start with dtmf. There should be 12 files in total.
Edit: I did the Daft Punk mod to my phone and it works great! I'm attaching the zip with the .ogg files inside and already renamed so you can just drop them on the phone. Remember to back up the original!

HA. Wrong. These are in iPhone format and not for our phones. My zipfile is for our phones.
I was just linking to the sounds you were looking for.
Anyhoo for some reason my keys don't make any sounds when i press them, any idea why? Would love to replace the stock sounds with the daft punk ones.
edit: n/m fixed that, now to load those daft punk sounds
Beat me to the answer, it's a seperate setting in the Sounds Menu. But now you know that yourself. I'm probably going to make a tutorial thread for this elsewhere in the forums in case anybody else is interested
The sounds seem to be mixed up, they don't match the keys in the video, seems like he rearranged them after posting that zip file. Trying to sort them now but its a pita since mpc barely plays them.
I know what you mean. I didn't bother trying to put them in the right order. It's just fun trying to play the song.
And smeltn, I'm writing up my tutorial on how to change the dial tone sounds and whatnot now and I'm giving you credit for the idea. Cause if not for you, I wouldn't have even bothered to do any of this.

HAHA thanks. Its fun playing around with them now that we know what to do. I just can't wait to see other peoples sounds.
Sorry guys, as I no longer use this phone, and since more current versions of Android do not work with this mod anymore, I am no longer supporting it, nor hosting the files in my dropbox.
Disclaimer: Not that anything in this tutorial should be harmful to your phone, but I am not responsible for any damage, bricking, yelling and screaming fits, keyboards, mice, pens, pencils, small children or household pets that get thrown across the room as your attempt this.
Also, thank you to smeltn. If it wasn't for him, I would have never begun this foray.
Hey there! You're obviously in this thread because you're interested in changing your dial tone sounds. Well here's how to do it.
First let's be clear about what you're going to be changing. When you tap the phone icon, you see this screen:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
And when you start dialing a number you hear some sounds. Those are the sounds we're going to be replacing. If you don't hear any sounds, go to Settings > Sounds and make sure Audible Touch Tones is checked like I have done here:
Things you will need to do this:
Some kind of file manager with root access. I like Root Explorer myself, but anything will work.
Replacement sounds. I will include a couple I have found online at the bottom of this post. They most likely will have been taking from an iPhone theme and just converted over for our phones by myself.
And of course some extra time
BEFORE you start, make sure you've unzipped the files from one of the attached zips on this post or from one you've made yourself and put them on an easily accessible part of your sd card on the phone.
Here are the steps you will need to follow:
Open your file manager.
Navigate to /system/media/audio/ui
Look for the files Key0.ogg Key1.ogg Key2.ogg Key3.ogg and so on until you get to Key9.ogg. Also look for KeyAsterisk.ogg and KeySharp.ogg. Either rename these files or copy them off to a safe place in case you want to revert back to them. If you want to delete them, that's your choice. I will also attach a copy of the original sounds to the end of this post.
Hopefully you've put the replacement sounds in a place that is easy for you to find them. Take the replacement sounds and put them into the /system/media/audio/ui folder.
Reboot the phone and go test out your sounds. Hopefully if all was done correctly, you should have custom dial tones.

2. The only free file manager with root access that I could find in the market was Android Mate.

I'll reupload the sounds after I make them louder. I'd also post by apk of Root Explorer, but that's against XDA's warez/piracy rule. If anyone would like, you can email me (my email is on my profile page) and I will point you in a general direction of where to find a copy. But I HIGHLY recommend biting the bullet and purchasing the app. It's well worth the money.
Edit: I made the sounds louder and updated the link in the OP. Download this: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/13362181/Daft Punk Dial Tones.zip and try them now.

I'm not to sure that really matters. Which keyboard are you using? I've noticed the Samsung Keyboard has a different sound click then the Android Keyboard and no matter what I do, the Swype keyboard makes no sounds even if I enabled it in the Swype settings.
Is there any way to change the built in Samsung click sound? You know, the sound you here everytime you tap on a new applications, opens a new mail in gmail or what ever. I know that you can turn it off in the settings menu, but I want to change the sound to one of my own. Is it possible? And If that's the case, how do I do it? Is it as simple as locating the sound file in the Note, and replace it with my sound and name it exactly the same?
EDIT:
I think I found it. The system files are located in system/media/audio/ui
I'm about to back those files up, and replace them with mine. I know I have found the right files, cuz when i renamed the "lock.ogg" to "1lock.ogg", the sound went away.
Lets give it a shot!
EDIT 2: Success! Will be working on some nice modifications now.

Hi mates,
First Happy New Year!!!
I want help to boost Call Volume, must be somewhere in the Mixer_Paths.xml file, can anyone help me with this?, what line should i switch the values?. Normally it's on Handset line, but i don't see anything there to switch values.
I have made a working magisk module, i'll atach it here, see if you can help me change the correct values to boost volume.
Best Regards,
Bruno
Even if we knew which value to edit, I don't think it can be saved as it's part of system/ due to dynamic partitions issue.
The way around it would be via Magisk module or pushing edits via adb... - I am not sure.
Definitely interested in such volume mods to take advantage of the ROG3 speakers' potential.

Hey man, thanks for the reply.
I have made a magisk module that can modify mixer_paths or orther files, and it's working, but my problem is that i already switched some values but i don't see any differences, there could also be some line missing...
I'll atach here my module, this is what i have made so far with switched values, see if you can help me get the right values to increase volume in calls, and in speakers 2 if you want.
Thanks by btw .

Maybe there's some value missing on mixer_paths_zs661ks.xml, because i changed the only value there is on the Handset path from 3 to 2, and that changed from hearing the calls on the bottom speaker instead of the top speaker, so that path seems to be doing something on calls, maybe there's some line missing in order to insert any volume value.
I hope someone can help with this, because this phone is wonderful, except for the low call volume .
Try checking ROG & ROG2 forums to see if something similar already exists that can be developed for ROG3....

If anyone wants to help, you can use Notepad ++ on your PC and edit the Mixer Paths files.
I'll atach The Magisk Module containing these files "they are on folder System/vendor/etc when you open this ZIP file".
If anyone has any luck on boosting volume with these files, please give your feedback in this thread.
