My Sprint HTC M8 is on 4.25.654.14 (Lollipop). I want to downgrade the OS to 4.4.2. So I looked at this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2729173
I downloaded Sprint_HTC_One_M8_1.54.651.10_RUU.zip, extracted 0P6BIMG.zip, and renamed it to rom.zip. Run ARUWizard.exe & follow the steps. Here is errror I met:
ERROR[140]: BOOTLOADER VERSION ERROR
How to bypass this error and downgrade the OS in RUU? Your help is appreciated.
You can't downgrade unless you are s-off.
Thank you, BD619. Can you please point me to a thread that shows how to free S-OFF my M8? Please forgive me, I am new to HTC ONE.. (I owned an EVO 4G long long time ago)

The only option is Sunshine which is $25.00.
None of the free methods work on the M8 anymore, due to HTC patching the exploit.

That's bad..... Not sure if I would spend $25 on that..... I am looking at the tutorials on how to unlock and root the phone. Does that mean, I can still flash custmoized ROMs through CMW or TWRP? If yes, then what functions are restricted with S-ON (besides downgrading)?

S-OFF is not required to flash roms...however most of the newer roms require your firmware to be the latest, meaning everytime there is an HTC update you would need to update your firmware in order for the rom to work correctly.
Being s-off makes it alot easier to update firmware.

Hi, I was wondering if there was going to be an RUU for 4.03.651.2 firmware. I tried to take the update with an outdated version of TWRP, and I would like to go back to stock and reroot. I have tried and failed to gain S-Off with Revone and moonshine. I am unsure of what to do. My phone is not recognized by ADB in recovery, so I cannot use the S-Off workaround to flash an old RUU. Any suggestions/responses are appreciated.
Thanks,

Hmm... I just assumed that there wouldn't be an RUU for 1.31. Do you know of any way to gain S-Off so that I can flash the 1.29 RUU?
RUU
This can be very frustrating, I know.
I used Moonshine to achieve S-OFF, yesterday. Reason was because I managed to delete almost everything, I still don't know exactly what happened. However, if I remember correctly, you need S-On in order to run a stock RUU. There are several threads that pretty much will walk you thru the steps needed to flash the RUU. I was on them yesterday.
Good luck.

You don't need S-Off or S-On to run the RUU, but the bootloader has to be locked (or relocked). Believe that I read that HTC was going to not release RUUs any more because they didn't want others to tear them apart, etc. But don't quote me on that one...
From my understanding, S-Off is required to flash an RUU for a firmware version that does not match the version you are currently on. Could you please refer me to one of these threads? I would appreciate it very much.

I've also heard the same however how can I gain S-Off without mounting the internal storage? Or ADB? I can't get either to work.

I believe that if you have a custom recovery installed, you can use the workaround by accessing the terminal from the recovery, type the command, and then lock the bootloader. I am not completely sure on that, though.
If your on 4.3 there is no RUU and no s-off exploit at this time. This is why it's always recommended to root/s-off before you update.

If you updated your phone to latest sprint 4.3 that's it you cannot instal RUU any more
s-on s-off not gonna help you
you can download naked drivers for htc one http://dl.xda-developers.com/attachd...river_0.72.zip but first delate/uninstal all htc/syn drivers
and jus push any 4.3 rooted rom to your phone and install g-luck
Don't know if this will help you or not, just stumbled across it a couple of minutes ago.

You need to follow the method that match your hboot version. A little bit of reading would have tell you that
My advice: read more from this forum before doing anything to your phone, looks like you don't understand few basic things like what is root vs s-off? what is firmware vs software? You might also want to make sure you know how to go back to 100% stock before modding your phone. Sticky threads are your friends, read them and ask question if its not clear.

again you need to read more, you are confusing 2 different things
boot.img is the kernel
hboot is the bootloader
hboot (bootloader) version doesnt matter when flashing roms
boot (kernel) is not secured on the htc one so it doesn't require to be flashed manually after flashing a rom like on some other htc models. Boot.img is included in every htc one roms.
.
if you want to flash a custom rom you need:
unlocked bootloader
custom recovery installed (twrp 2.6.3.3 for every 4.4+ Sense based roms or twrp 2.7.1.1 for CM roms, the only exception are GPE roms which will require s-off)
adb/fastboot knowledge to unlock the bootloader, flash the recovery and push the rom.
my advice is make a BACKUP... really dont forget. I did and had a tough time getting the phone back to work.
And read some more on these forums, what i did was:
1. unlock bootloader via htcdev
2. flash a custom recovery (at first i used clockworkmod but got in trouble later, twrp fixed it eventually so id advice go with twrp)
3. backup everything
4. flash custom mod (i used revolution hd 71.1 but check which version u could use best)
5. flash kernel (at first i used evolution x but didnt work , got a anti-firewater patch error when trying s-off with firewater. Bulletproof kernel worked)
6. use firewater to s-off.
I know you don't want to s-off, but in case of emergency OMGWTF brick, s-off is better to restore your phone back to stock as some ruu files are not signed and would need s-off to flash. And if there is no ruu for your newer firmware, then you need s-off to downgrade. Going back to s-on is a simple Fastboot command, but getting s-off requires an exploit that may get patched like it has time and time again. So, s-off while you can

SIM detection? All s-off does is remove the secure flag. Of course with s-off you can do a plethora of things like what you linked. Why would you want to change your cid or downgrade?

November/December will my HTC One M8 arrive !
hello dear friends, maybe someone can lead me in the right direction here. I have a sprint Htc One m8 Harman Kardon with badboyz 4.4.2 rom installed. I have tried rumrunner S-off and Firewater S-off to no avail. I then read about Sunshine S-off and was ok with parting with $25- to have my phone unlocked but when I run the compatibility test in sunshine it says that my htc isnt supported! My htc M8 currently has the BadBoyz rom in it, I dont have a nandroid backup to get back to s tock and i havent been able to find a stock rom that i can flash in TWRP. I have only found RUUs, but to use RUUs you have to have s-off so I really dont know what else to try at this point.... any help would be GREATLY appreciated!
RUU's do not require s-off.

Hello,
I recently bought an HTC One (M7), and I wanted to convert it to a Google Edition.
So I searched on a few forums for instructions and they said that I had to unlock the bootloader first AND to root my device.
I did all of this, but now I don't know which method I can try to S-OFF my device.
My rom is currently CM11 Android 4.4.2 and HBOOT 1.5.7 Tampered, Unlocked.
I heard about Sunshine already. And I think it's worth the money but I think it's not gonna work because I don't have money on my paypal, and I would like to try to do it myself. I just don't know how. I tried some methods but I think I did it wrong.
Can someone help me out? I would really appreciate your help.

Plenty of other people have successfully RUU'd their phones while S-on. It does require an extra step but it can be done. Also, as far as S-off with Sunshine, I believe the latest version (3.0) is compatible with Lollipop.
To the OP: Hit the second link in my sig. Scroll down to the RUU section and take a read. A link to OMJ's RUU thread can be found at the bottom of the first post of my thread. Download the latest applicable RUU (4.25.651.14 for NON-HK or 4.25.654.14 for the HK version). Follow my instructions in my thread to run the RUU on your device.

External sd method = needs s-off so won't work for s-on users.
Fastboot method = most RUU's are exe files so most likely won't work via fastboot method.
Changed my CID = cannot be done unless you are s-off.
