!!!OD2 with domestic unlock working!!!! - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 General

Hi to everyone who has been having problems with domestic unlock, after updating to OD2 lollipop.
I myself have been experiencing some problems with OD2 and domestic unlock, one of which is the "INVALID SIM CARD". I did not get any service after updating. I tried downgrading my modem to NG2 and i got service, but the wifi was not working. I tried every other modem available to the SPH-L720, and the still the wifi did not work. So i worked night, and day, trying to figure out how to make it work. Then i thought to myself, hmm... why not create my own modem?? and so i did. It is currently working on OD2 stock lollipop.
**NOTE** This is ODIN flash-able. there is a .7z file inside the zip file, it must first be decompressed.
!!USE AT YOUR OWN RISK!!
For anyone who is wondering how i did this: Here is a short video containing, the simplest way of creating the modem. it is in a zip file. it is .mp4 format. Do not upload it to youtube.

Could you provide a little more detailed info on what you mean by "created your own modem" ? This is a risky partition to flash to.

Exactly that is why i said "!!USE AT YOUR OWN RISK!!". For if i had to take the time to explain to you what i did, and how i did it, that would be a waist of my time. i have real work to do.

Lol....... pardon me for questioning your methods sir!
Ill just leave this here:

:laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:Ha ha. As you can see; the little that i have learned in the past four months, has taught me quite a bit. Now i am moving up in the world of sph-l720..... LOL .... i went from NooBie to Just Noob... this is quite an accomplishment for me, i am really proud of my self... he he...:laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:

i did not bite off any ones head....
maybe later tonight if i have the time; i will post the details of how my modem, came to Fruition...
judge me not by my words, but only by my deeds. lol.

We all just need to know what exactly you did so we can be sure we don't end up with bricked devices. Flashing a bad or wrong modem could possibly turn a device into a paperweight. That's the point we are trying to make here.
Please keep in mind that if in fact this is all good, it could be a VERY popular mod!

I HAVE FLASHED IT ON MY DEVICE SEVERAL TIMES. NOT ONES WAS MY PHONE BRICKED. MY PHONE IS THE "SPH-L720 16GB", NOT THE TRI-BAND MODEL. I USED THE "MUNIZ_RI L720_OD2_Stock_Rooted_ROM".
***NOTE ***I DID "NOT" ATTEMPT THIS ON ANY CUSTOM ROM'S .
I AM ON ULTRA MOBILE, WHICH IS AN "MVNO" UNDER T-MOBILE.
HERE IS ANOTHER PEACE OF INFORMATION. IF THE MODEM/NON-HLOS IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH YOUR PHONE, IT WILL NOT FLASH (VIA ODIN3 V3.09), IT WILL FAIL. AND NO YOUR PHONE WILL NOT GET BRICKED. IT MAY HAVE SOMETHING TO DO WITH KNOX, OR JUST FIRMWARE I DO NOT KNOW.
DOES THAT HELP?

Ok, good info...... but how did you go about modifying the modem itself? A short version of what you did would be fine..... maybe a link or two to what resources you used? Modifying or "creating" a modem is not very common at all. If it were, there would be custom modems all over the place.

i just created a short video, with the simplest way of creating the modem.
it is in a zip file. it is .mp4 format. Do not upload it to youtube.
You're Welcome!View attachment 3329665

I am currently working De-compiling and editing all of the files, then recompiling them, and testing.
it will take me a while so please be patient.
i could use all the assistance that i can get.
Thank You.

Alright...... because your video shows how to make a zip file, but doesn't show how to modify/create a modem.
Just to clarify, the modem you posted in the OP was modified by you personally? And it unlocks sim access on OD2? So anyone who flashes it on a sprint L720 (non tri-band) stock rooted rom will be able to use their phone on T-Mobile or another GSM carrier?

you would fist have to unlock your phone the regular way like over here before you have updated your rom/firmware/kernel. to OD2.
and then you will have to update the modem to the one i uploaded to remain unlocked after updating to OD2.

Probably should include all those type details in your OP.

if you read my op, you would then know that i stated, after i updated i got an "invalid sim error". That would suggest that i had previously been unlocked, and that after updated it was locked again.
I assume that anyone reading my post would understand that, because he or she had the same issue and knows how to unlock a Samsung SPH-L720 running MDC,MDL,MF9,NAE,NG2.

Alright....... but again, just to clarify, you modded the modem.bin file yourself?
That's the info I'm trying to get out of you....... what is it that you changed in that .bin file to get unlock to work on OD2?
I know that the NON-HLOS.bin file wasn't changed at all from the stock version.

If you observe his video, he is combining NG2 modem.bin with OD2 NON-HLOS.bin. Now, I don't know what function each of those bins do, but I am pretty sure that OD2 'modem.bin' is what you need in order to have OD2 baseband, right?

Oh now that's funny! I did not catch that because I didn't watch it all that close.
So...... NO..... he did not modify any modem.bin file...... he is just using a the NG2 radio and calling it OD2!
I think we are done here.

Well, has anyone with domestic unlock on NG2 try his file on OD2 and retain domestic unlock?

Yes, I did try. No, it doesn't retain domestic unlock. It says 'invalid SIM'. Fortunately, I could flash NG2 back and all is well.

[TUT] Flash baseband and ONLY baseband

This will do nothing other than changing your baseband, nothing else will change and you can do it with whatever ROM you have installed, custom or stock.
1. Get the latest ROM for your region, the simplest way to do that is to use CheckFusDownloader which you can find here: http://fus.nanzen.se/
Start the program and choose firmware, phone (GT-S5570) and region on the right side, then click check firmware on the left side, finally click download and save it to c:\baseband.
2. Get Cygwin here: http://www.cygwin.com/
Install Cygwin (you don't need to change anything if you don't want to, just let setup run it's course until it's installed) and start the Cygwin terminal.
In cygwin, type:
Code:
cd /cygdrive/c/baseband
tar -xvf [filename of your downloaded ROM] amss
tar -H ustar -c amss > MODEM_S5570.tar
For example, if the filename of the ROM you downloaded with CheckFusDownloader is S5570XWKQG_S5570XWKQ5_S5570OXFKQ6_HOME.tar.md5 then you'd type:
Code:
cd /cygdrive/c/baseband
tar -xvf S5570XWKQG_S5570XWKQ5_S5570OXFKQ6_HOME.tar.md5 amss
tar -H ustar -c amss > MODEM_S5570.tar
Once you're done with that you have a baseband file in your C:\baseband directory called MODEM_S5570.tar that you can flash as one package using Odin.
Remember that basebands are intercompatible so just pick the one that is for your region.
And no, no custom rom will care about it regardless of what they say.
Hi
this seems cool trick but to what I understand it gets the baseband out from a downloaded firmware (please correct me if wrong)
Would it be possible to just extract the basesband from the phone?
thanks
Sorry sir I don't get it
Is this just change the baseband I mean just the appearance In about phone or change the system too?

No, it will change the baseband in the phone as in replace your current baseband.
The baseband controls GSM/GPRS/G3/GPS settings which means that if you flash a ROM for another region than your own you might run into problems with all or some of those. For example, i can't remember how many posts i have read on this forum about GPS problems when people have flashed a ROM that isn't for their region.
You can use this procedure to fix that problem, just flash the baseband for your region and it will work fine on ANY ROM, custom or stock.
Basically, it's a universal fix to a problem that some people have.

Nope, you'd need the block area on the phone where it's stored and dd it.
this is for flashing basebands on roms available and if your rom isn't it's because it's old, just use the checkfusdownloader to get the most recent and you'll be fine with that.
I thought i made it all clear in the first post.

I am sure you must have made it clear, only may b I did not understand clearly, and sorry I still do not get this how to do it.
Lets say I got the brand new phone and nothing has been modified, how do I take the baseband out from the PHONE for future use in case if I need to restore the baseband in future.
So anyways, if it is possbile to get it out of the PHONE, please explain it in details how do I do it, sorry I am quite new to this thats why.
thanks my friend.

You don't, you download the latest ROM for your region with checkfusdownloader and use the rest to get whatever baseband you want INTO the phone.
If you already have the correct baseband for your region, why would you change it, if you have the wrong one, you replace it using the method in the OP.
It is possible, but i am not going to spend the time researching blocks to find it, so either you do that yourself for no reason what so ever, or you go with another amss from the same rom that you have which IS THE SAME BASEBAND.
It's not phone unique, it's unique to every region and you can find it or an updated version using the tool i referenced in the OP, if you cannot, your phone doesn't exist or at least Samsung haven't produced that phone.
I am not sure how to make this any more clear than that.

Now it is quite clear to me, thanks.
The only reason I wanted to get one out from my phone was that, the things seem quite ok with the phone so my baseband is quite ok, but in other rom (for my region) if it is an updated one and if there are some better features or removed bugs (unknown to me) then I would install it through your method. But after installing new one if I find that my old baseband was working better than this new one, I would not have chance to put the old one back. So was the reason to backup the baseband from the phone just in case new one does not work good for me.
But as you have made it understood quite clear, thanks for this, really appreciated your help.

Ok, the point of this thread was to provide the TOOL (checkfusdownloader) and the WAY(the explained extraction and compilation of one file that will work.
I still don't get why you don't just use that information.
You CAN use even old basebands found via checkfusdownloader.
If you don't get how to use it, just say so because this seems a bit... puckered with nada.
WELL done Jinxxed I will try it right now.
but i have a query, suppose that i have the suitable firmware for my device, can i just extract the csc file from the package and grab the ops file, then load and flash them via odin?

Wait, why would you flash the CSC, this tutorial is for flashing baebadn without ANYTHING else affected.
And that is what the procedure does, it just changes your baseband without chanign ganything else.
You can pretty much flash any file this way, including recovery or what have you.
So yeah, whatever firmware you want, with whatever baseband you need, this is how you do it.

To answer this as the question is in need of answer.
Yes, you can do that with any rom file in any way you wish except for the boot, img and the arm11 file, just don't mess with those.
If yo REALLY want to, i can tell you how but at that point you'll want more than one phone per person.
my bad I mean the amss file that contains baseband and related stuff
since you had gently answered that is doable via ODIN, so what about the ops file should i leave it as he is.
sorry to bother you mate, and thanks again

YOu can use the regular way of flashing it or just electing out one part in the tass and flash it.
Now everyone will be wary of it because i made a mistake.. .it's not really a problem, you just comment out the line you won't use. i'll bet my left ball on that.
That said, i've experienced a lot lately, so bear with me if i'm slow but expect everything exactly correct.

Flash via Odin as one package with the normal ops, the same ops file that we have been using to flash stock ROMs, in Download mode as always.. now, only do this if you already have a custom ROM.. It will not wipe any data but it is recommended to do a nandroid backup just in case something goes wrong.. Check About Phone, Baseband Version to see the changes..
question
if i have 2.3.6 xwktn, can i use 2.3.6 dxkpd as my baseband? thanks.

[ODIN][TAR] I9505G modems

All of the modem images are signed so they should flash over anything in theory. Here's what we have for official updates so far: These files (except MFD) are generated using my new Build_ODIN script. It takes the previous signed NON-HLOS.bin and modem.bin files and patches them using code from the new OTA. So MH1 is patched from MFD, MH5 is patched from MH1, and so on.
I will update this thread as new OTA's come out.
Some people say to flash as PDA, others say to flash as Phone in ODIN.

Well that's depressing. So it seems you can't change the name of the files inside the tar file. Ok, I'll fix them. Thanks for letting me know. It'll be about 20 minutes and I'll have all new images and recovery thread updated.
Links updated. Sorry about that!
Is there a significant difference in the modems. I have yet to notice in my area, which is just HSPA.
I'm not really sure. I haven't had any issues with any of the modems but I'm practically on top of a tower. I just like having them on hand in case we need them or for those on roms who don't want to deal with the trouble of OTA's can simply flash them.
True this. From my early skyrocket days, some claim that certain modems worked better in different areas than others. But there are too many variables to really see. Bandwidth, peak time, weather, solar flares, el nino, big foot, position of voyager, and quantum fluxuations in microwaves at the research station in antartica.

Yeah, but the MH5 is 4 more than MH1!!!
Are these modems only for original i9505G devices or should one flash these if running a GE rom on a standard i9505?

As the title and the section it's posted in suggest, these are only for the i9505g.

[G870A][6.0.1] G870AUCU2DPH2 for S5 Active, have ZIP, need upload site

I've followed the instructions on how to pull the OTA files for my S5 Active on AT&T (G870A). I have the file as a .zip and it seems to have the right things for an update in the archive. Size is 929MB.
TL;DR - See reply #7 for download link.
My AndroidFileHost account is not for a developer, so I can't upload yet. I've requested access to upload. I'm currently uploading to Google Drive, but it will about an hour until that is completed. I'll follow up tomorrow, but the end is in sight. I'm running 6.0.1 on my S5 Active and it seems to be doing alright. Definitely less bloatware than the 5.1.1 build.
I will post updates to this thread as I have them.
Edit: same bloatware
My ISP keeps taking me offline about 200MB into the upload to Google Drive. Maybe they think I'm torrenting Mr. Robot S2E9 or something. I'll try dropbox next or wait for AndroidFileHost to give me upload rights.
You can split file using WinRAR.
Right click on your file and select "Add files to archive"
In the opened window, give a new name to your to-be-split file (e.g. G870A_6.rar). Under "Compression Method", select "Store".
Input your desired value inside "Split to volumes, bytes" box, about 100-200Mb
Click OK and you're done.

I wouldn't split the files, considering it's a file that needs to be flashed, too many opportunities for corruption.
With that said, I think Dropbox is your best choice. You could also give zippyshare a shot, it's a fairly popular hosting site with straight forward downloads (ie. No misdirection on download buttons, pop-ups, etc).
Edit
Also, thanks a ton for this, I've been waiting and waiting for someone to upload a zip of the Ota for the Active.
I was able to use the desktop Google Drive sync and I believe the file is intact. Uploading via HTTP is not very reliable.
I'm checking the link now before posting it. Should be ready in an hour or so.

I'm not sure if it's even possible, or if you'd be willing, but it'd be nice to get a checksum created from your original capture. Then we could download the uploaded capture and checksum to verify it's intact.

I guess I should add an 800x200 signature GIF detailing all the ROMs I run with a request for thanks. Are XDA 'thanks' better than Reddit gold?

I'm not sure if it's even possible, or if you'd be willing, but it'd be nice to get a checksum created from your original capture. Then we could download the uploaded capture and checksum to verify it's intact.

Thank you for the reminder. I edited my previous comment to include the MD5. This was the file off the card, previously named desc.bin, prior to upload.

Awesome!!!
If there was xda gold, you'd be getting it bud, thanks a lot!!!
Now that I finally have the option, I'm really debating whether I'm ready to lose root or not. Another thing, since I'm on of3, I'm not even certain I can use this to update, as you have to be on pa2, 3, or 6?
I no longer have AT&T, nor have those updates been released as flashable zips, so maybe I don't have an option after all. Lol

I was in the same boat. I had to plug in an AT&T SIM to let it get the update. It was on PB5, so it had to go to PB6 and then PH2. I didn't think to try to recover the PB6 update. Sorry.

Well, I no longer have an active AT&T sim card, so I'm likely out of luck, but thanks anyways.
What if I flash PH2 on the OJ3?
is this an ota update from pb1, pb3, or pb6? also I'm still on OJ3, anyone know where I can find a way to update from that.

You guys can try, my guess is it will fail, I'm in the same boat, think we need to be on pb* for it to flash.
Give it a shot and report back, quite a few people are curious, myself included. Worst case, it'll fail and you have to reboot.
Edit
I should add, I would try, but I'm still on of3 and not certain I want to lose root, but you guys already have. If it works, I'll definitely contemplate updating. Good luck!
How would you actually flash this? adb sideload? Put on device and install via recovery? I'm in the same boat and currently stuck on OC5 in Germany without ATT service.

I was on PB5 originally and it wouldn't update. I took an AT&T SIM out of another phone and let it run through the update path. The first thing it went to was PB6 which was 200MB+. The AT&T site mentions that it has to be one of those three to get the update to PH2. After that, the big download started.

As mentioned, it may not work, but to try, rename it to update.zip and flash via stock recovery.

I tried that already, filename doesn't really matter. I looked into the files itself and this update is mostly patches from a previous version so unless you're on one of the approved previous versions this probably won't work unfortunately.
Does anyone have any pointers towards the other OTA updates? If I knew I could just order an AT&T Sim card and proceed through them I would extract every single one of them myself and post them here. Unfortunately I don't even know if an AT&T card will do anything useful here in Germany.

I have scoured every corner of the internet looking for those files, to no avail. And unfortunately, you are correct, I don't believe that it would do any good in Germany.
I'm glad I at least have root, for those stuck on oj3, I'd be pretty upset. Anybody able to get us a required pb* Ota capture, please do, you'd be a hero!

FW-8.0.0] S7 EDGE SNAPDRAGON - UNIVERSAL OREO G935UUES4CRG3 July 1/2018 sec

I Downloaded The Fw From Sammobile, Yes Its Was Very Slow, Thats Why I Re-upped It Untouched To Androidfilehost, Much Faster To Dl For Others.
Only For Snapdragon Variants, Its The Universal Firmware, Its Free Of Carrier Bloat But Has Some Samsung Useless Apps.
Not For Exynos Variants Like The Sm-g935f, Etc.
MORE ABOUT UNIVERSAL FW READ THIS
The Zip Has The Att Extension But All Universal Snapdragon Fw Are The Same Afaik, It Does Not Install Anything Specific For Att,
Im On Telus/koodo Using The Sm-g935a Without Issues, Shows Lte Signal When On Data Mode.
Idk If Auto Updates Work, Although Update Options Are Available From The System Menu
Instructions:
Dl Zip, Extract Zip, Put Phone In Dl/odin Mode. Run Odin As Admin, And Load Each Cp, Ap, Bl And Csc(Dont Use The Home Csc As I Read Its Fracks Things Up), Just Use "Csc_oym" File In Odin
Fyi. I Used Princes Odin But Failed, Used Untouched Odin And It Flashed Successfully. Was On Nougat 7.0 Sim Unlocked SM-G935A At&t Branded Stock Fw. I Included Both For Your Pleasure.
Afaik It Will Wipe Your Phone, Do A Backup As Needed
make a backup by using adb, search for this method, and a twrp nandroid
always make a backup, and never just one, and save them somewhere safe in multiple locations and clouds, hard drives die all the time

Hi Vincom, yes i have already read the article. the main reason im flashing the rom is because of the hidden DATA icon in the toggle screen. and also i want my phone to have the OREO update as well. this is my first samsung phone. i have experience in flashing ROMs in my xiaomi redmi 1s phone. so im a bit skeptical if i can do this on my own. this odin process is very new to me. so what is the worst thing that can happen it i brick my phone? can i do a hard reset and will it default to the stock AT&T ROM if ever?

odin is as easy as it gets, its made for samsung phones.
safe is to do nothing if ur happy as is.
NEVER EVER USE THE "PIT" OPTION UNLESS DIRECTIONS SAY SO IN XDA FORUM ONLY
read/watch vids on using odin

yes and no, csc controls what bloatware and which settings are setup by default dependant on carrier and country, hence why this is a universal fw and not dependant on original csc files.
if u truly have the att s7edge g935a, which is what i had, then yes.

i finally finished downloading the zip file earlier. i will flash it later after i go home from work. and one other thing i need to make sure. with this Oreo rom, the DATA connection icon will be available in the toggle screen right?
@vincom, this Oreo rom has already the DATA icon to be toggled on/off right? this is one of the reason i want to flash the att rom as well.

I did read all of it but your description was vague on the att part so I didnt know if you modified it which it sounds like its just the 935u firmware and Im not a newb n00b
@vincom, initially got an error sha256 when i started to flash it. and my phone started to boot loop after i use a different odin, the prince odin. but after some searching. i fount out i just need to use the newer patch version of odin - Odin3 v3.13.1_3B_PatcheD and now im running Oreo on my s7 edge. hopefully this can help others too.

yup i tried that one the first time. thats when it gave me the error message sha256. then i tried the prince odin that gave me the error mmc something.
The author claims performance and battery improvements but has anyone that switched over really noticed that big of a improvement?
I mean i already disabled all the carrier bloat with adhell isn't that basically the same as installing this rom? Does the universal maybe have a different kernal/different system level tweaks?
Bro , what will happen if my unlocked at&t s7edge installing this ? Is there sim will be locked again or not ? Thanks in advance and sorry for my bad english...

will not change your current sim lock status, no fw exists that would change it
Thanks
Thanks a lot, this firmware works for me with the 3b patched odin on the first try.

Proper Odin Version for flashing firmware?

Before I start, I apologize and I know this shouldn't be in the Q&A Thread but I am a new user and unable to post it in the other thread
So I recently purchased a Galaxy S10 from Best Buy and I noticed I didn't have Advanced Call features such as Wifi-Calling and Video Calling. When I had asked about this, it turns out that I had purchased the unlocked S10 and had them set it up with my provider as Verizon.
I have been reading some posts by iBowToAndroid and I am wondering if I would be able to flash my phone into being locked with Verizon and get the Advanced Calling features without losing anything on my phone currently.
I already have the G973U firmware files from iBowToAndroid's post as well as the Verizon USERDATA file. I also tried setting up Samsung USB Drivers but the install failed. I'm not sure if this is necessary as I am still very new to this whole thing.
If this is possible, what version of Odin should I be downloading?
Is there anything else that I would need?
I'm using v3.13.3 and it's working perfectly fine.

I've been trying to use that as well but it fails every time before it is able to download anything.
Not sure if I am doing something wrong but I have all the files necessary for it

I had this happen as well...then got a firmware image (from sammobile) with a later date than the firmware that was on my phone already. Flashing that newer firmware image was successful the first time through. Although in my case I was flashing back from T-Mobile firmware to unlocked firmware, same idea. I think that it might have been related to needing a newer boot version or something, but until I got the later version of unlocked firmware, the flash would fail reliably at abl.elf, before it got rolling.
And the version of Odin that worked for me was the patched Odin3_v3.13.1_3B. Didn't try the unpatched version.
