Can some one compile or point me to a cifs.ko that is compatible with the incredible. The ones I can find do not seem to be. Thanks in advance.
Interesting
http://linux.die.net/man/8/mount.cifs Not that I can help but if anyone wanted a quick reference.
Alot of the roms for other phones have it but its not compatible with out kernel. Is there a guide how to compile kernels? I made a couple in linux that worked. long ago..
here ya go...what app are you using to browse CIFS shares? I haven't tested this module, but just compiled it now.
Forgive me as I haven't actually tried this, but here is the 10,000 foot view:
At a minimum, you will need a linux system, with a gcc-arm cross compiler set up. I believe the android-sdk provides one. The version used by current kernels is gcc-4.4.4.
Then you will need the sources of the kernel you are running. The hydra kernel git tree is here: http://github.com/ejhart/Hydra-kernels.git , and the stock kernel sources are here: http://member.america.htc.com/download/RomCode/Source_and_Binaries/incrediblec_cc1c2268.tar.bz2
The hydra git tree doesn't seem to have a a working .config included, but this isn't so important if you are only building and installing kernel modules. From there, you'll need to configure the kernel in cross compiler mode, add the modules you want, and you will need to make sure the version magic string is identical to the kernel you are using. From there run make, and once the compile is finished, find the .ko 's you want, and push them to the /system/modules folder where you can insmod them.
Edit: You can use the .config from /proc/config.gz, didn't see it in there before.

I got one from another user but thanks do you still want me to try it? I mounted my share in a directory on the SDCARD so i can browse it with any file manager. I think any app that scans the sd card will also scan my server with about 8TB so that is a minor issue.
kernel compile guide
A guide for compiling kernels can be found here :
http://code.google.com/p/android-serialport-api/wiki/Htc
I not a techie and a newbie at any android development.
Since the guide is more or less a a set of instructions with no theory.
Got it to run, but not sure what I was doing.
Any assistance in provide either cifs.ko for the HTC Aria w/ kernel version :
liberty-2.6.29-21f066a6 or instructions on how to compile the module would be greatly
appreciated.
BTW - there an app on the store for automating the CIFS mount (CIFSManager

Note that the post you quote was from before the 2.2 OTA, and hence that cifs.ko would be incompatible with the current kernel.

Thanks for pointing that out. So does anyone have a compatible cifs.ko for the current DINC kernel?

figured out its definately tiwlan_drv.ko, but apparently sdio is linked to it, inwhich i had disabled in config, find out shortly if it fixes my broken wifi
No, that's not how it works. Modules sdio.ko and tiwlan_drv.ko are both from TI driver and not available in kernel source so they can not be compiled for your favorite kernel version. You will have to adapt and use the same kernel version as those two were compiled against...
Hello,
I'm looking to access Broadcom 4329 sources and make some minimal modifications.
I could successfully compile Kernel and bcm4329.ko and upload to the phone. Both Kernel a module are working fine. Except that I can't find the true sources and modify them.
There are many guides, some outdateted, and confuses me a bit.
I found bcm4329 sources at ~/android/system/hardware/broadcom/wlan/bcm4329/src but those files are never being used at all while compiling.
On Nexus One this folder seams to be completelly unused.
When I compile the Kernel it also makes a working bcm4329.ko module with files from ~/android/kernel/cm-kernel/drivers/net/wireless/bcm4329.
I need help to known how can I modify sources a compile them.
Which files are the 'true' sources for this drivers to be modifed?
I add a printk in wl_cfg80211.c located at both folders, but do nothing.
Regards,
for the record: we found the solution, the module gets compiled with the sources from
Code:
cm-kernel/drivers/net/wireless/bcm4329/

So. You're a kernel dev... Got a question for you. How do I add more CFLAGS to the makefile without it not booting or whatever? I've tried adding -O3 to the 2 places I know to put CFLAGS. Same place I put the -w so it would work with GCC 4.8

So you're allowing the integration of it? Just to be clear.
So I'm not sure why but the kernel borked again. Maybe I need to go through one flag at a time? Or maybe forgot something....?

Hey. Im having nothing but issues building it in the ROM so I was curious if you could tell me what I need to do after copying the msm8960 folder to a new place and adding in the makefile changes? Ive never built a kernel independently before but would like it to be a boot.img like normal so I can just replace the one in the ROM zip with the new one. Im sure it's pretty easy, just figured I'd ask you rather than comb through 80 guides saying different stuff lol.

I'm not seeing errors. Hell I removed everything but the -O3 spots and it still refused to boot. I dont know what the deal is....
Anytim I do ANYTHING to the kernel its dead, no matter how stupid it is.

BTW. The makefile is borked. And was curious if you knew how to build AOSP for this device? CM was pretty easy, I'd figure AOSP isn't too different. Then I can try to get Android L running once I have a working Android K to cross-reference to and make the version specific changes in device, kernel, vendor, qcom-common, and s4-common

When certain flags or 03 is added it creates a larger zImage. In order to compensate the boot.img needs needs modified, either by kernel installer or if baked in the rom hex edited. To change the ramdiskaddr.

Absolutely correct. And to elaborate on this just a bit more. Since your source building here, you can actually adjust the ramdiskadd with the scripts, considering it uses mkbootimg commands to build the boot.img.
An additional line in your devices board config, to give it a new ramdiskaddr size. Then an additional line in the build folder factory_ramdisk.mk , to handle the command for a new ramdiskaddr size should do the trick.
As for your other question about building aosp. I'm afraid that would be beyond my area of expertise. You would have significantly modify aosp code to allow for caf. It would be much harder then building cm, cause cm already has all the adjustments needed for caf devices

I read this and my eyes glaze over. But you are in good hands with these two helping you. :highfive:
Yeah I'm working on it guys. Read the integrated kernel building guide and trying that. But if I could just get it to build me the boot.IMG and get my ramdisk sizes and whatever I'm looking at where to edit it in the device/BoardConfig changed the defconfig to a custom one I made based off the original one from the working boot.IMG but changed the I/O scheduler & CPU governed defaults. Gave it a local name (UnityKernel-x.x.x) and am fighting its last issues. So if nothing else help building it independently might be the most useful now. So if nothing else I can push a new boot.img
My bad. It just says the boot partition size so I think I might be almost there
/wiki/Motorola_Moto_G5s(motorola-montana)
The kernel used is from motorola's repository, since working usb networking is a must have, I'm not so sure if I can rely on lineageos kernel(I'm not sure if it is a matter of a kernel or of the vendor/device tree I decided to play it safe) , so I decided to start from scratch.
Right now on the roadmap:
1. Clean up the messy commits and start from a new branch.
2. Get merged into postmarketos official repository. (I can do so right now, but I rather go back and re-do the commits, remove the unnecessary changes).
3. Fix DPI settings, default ones are optimized for Desktop.
4. Find out the right pixelformat to use with osk-sdl those will translate into charging/battery-sdl and Filesystem Encryption.
5. Get wifi, gps ,accelerometer, bluetooth audio working. (Wifi and accelerometer doesn't work for 100%, )
test gps/get it working, get accelerometer working ,fix DPI.
6. Lastly mainlining kernel, which is required to get the WIP postmarketos modem driver and 3D Acceleration working.
Optional:
1. Porting MultiROM and patching a kernel to support kexec-hardboot patch on our device.
Once I will get my internet back I will work on @up things and provide:
1. Instructions on getting this linux distribution compiled.
2. Fastboot bootable kernel and sdcard image. I would prefer for you to boot a kernel and using sdcard over a flashable zip image for now, disappointment guaranteed.
WIFI networking most likely doesn't work since I haven't created device/firmware-montorola-montana package with wifi firmware.
If you want to contribute hit me up, I have a very slow connection and possibly have it for couple of days, so I might not be able to do any work for some time.
I don't have enough posts to make a DEVDB nor a development thread, so take it as [Q&A] thread that will hopefully get me to the minimal number of posts I require.
I also can't post outside links apparently the repositories I here present are relative to postmarketos wiki, github, gitlab or codeaurora git.
Repositories:
Kernel:
/kubast2/kernel-msm
Wlan kernel module and firmware:
/MotorolaMobilityLLC/vendor-qcom-opensource-wlan-prima
/quic/la/platform/vendor/qcom-opensource/wlan/prima/tree/
For configs I use a twrp image of stock oreo, I will need to use some config files from that backup image in place of the wlan driver provided configs.
Device and proprietary repositories by the montana development team will be useful for reference of existing blobs and configuration files, while other device ports from postmarketos repository will be useful for reference on when they need to be placed within the rootfs of postmarketos:
/montanadevelopment
/postmarketOS/pmaports
