I'm planning to do a hard reset/repair and want to get back up and running as quickly as possible, so any advice on what and how to backup would be appreciated.
Downloaded apps, contacts, calender, email etc. are all backed up through my Google account, so no worries there. Is the Sony PC Companion going to reliably backup my texts and call records, or should I use something like Helium?
I also plan to backup settings for certain apps onto the SD card (which I'll remove before the reset) and obviously photos/music will all be on the SD Card. Is there anything else important that I'm forgetting?
And when I put the SD card back in after the reset, are apps like album/music/mapping apps etc gonna automatically look on there for data, or will I need to go through them all and change settings to point them to the SD card?
Thanks.

Hi
I have just reset my Raphael and as usual forgot to back up the sim contacts properly. lol
What software is best for installing on my memory card or laptop to back up contacts and re-organise/tidy them all.
My contacts are a mess on the sim and need to be imported to some software before I wipe the SIM clear again.
PPCBckpContacts.exe
its free
back up SIM, Contacts, Appointments, Tasks

Once download it to your phone just click to run the software. It doesnt run the installation process but if you go to your Phone programs you will see the icon there.
I have been using PIM backup for years, its a free file and backsup everything you want it to. I usually save all my data to my storage card and set that as the default folder. This way when I hard reset, everythings still on my memory card.
I will be hard resetting my phone soon as its become unusable, If I use PIM backup 2.8 will this restore all contacts (Sim and Phone) along with all information with them, birthdays, emails, ect.
I guess it will but just want to make sure before I do this, thanks

Yes, PimBackup is a very good tool. You can also store other info on your sd card or computer before you perform hardreset.
Good Luck
I just got my GT-N7100 and was trying to migrate my N-7000 contacts and other backedup data to the new device but it wont take the files associated with GT-N7000 Does any one have any idea on how to do it without much hastle.
sync to google, Log into google on the new phone and sync contacts Job done :good:
As for data, What data are you referring to ? Are both phones rooted? If so, Try titanium backup

The google contacts have synced the one on my SIM wont , messages, Music. I even created a backup og GT-N7100 and it uses 4 different file formats but nothing that would support GT-N7000 file format (i guess it is .Sub)
As much as I hate Kies, Have you tried it ?
It does have a backup function which should transfer across to the new Note. If not, There are apps that can backup messages and playlists, Im pretty sure Titanium can do this also (I dont backup messages, and all music is on external SD)
The sim contacts should be easy to transfer, Just pop the sim into the new Note and then export from SD to Phone, Or do this on the Note 1 and then sync them to google and resync on Note 2

Yes i created backup using KIES itself thats how the .SUB file extension was created. As far as the Sim goes the problem is both the sim's are different one a regular while other a micro sim (Microsim can get stuck in N7000 without the adapter). I have the cutter and can cut the sim and slide it in the new note but wanted to move the contents from it before cutting. Havent tried titanium backup will do it today and see if the backup files created by it on N7000 are compatible with N7100.
Oh my bad ! I didnt know you had used Kies. Im not sure what extension it creates cause I never use it lol I hate it !!
You shouldnt have any issues with titanium, Its a wonderful tool that can do almost anything.
As for the micro sim, I didnt know the Note 2 had one what is with these damn things I hate them, reminds me of people trying to be like apple !
Anyway good luck
Here some suggestions
Use this guide how to restore kies contact backup
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=30984377&postcount=5
- try this
In note1 go to contact display options and make all visible
Then contact - export/import-export to ext sd card
Then use same micro sd to note2 and same wat use import from contact
Use sms backup/restore for msgs
-read toolbox from my note 1 signature and find transfer data application
You can transfer contact and msgs from one device to other devices with blutooth.

What do you mean by everything? Because absolutely "everything" would be a nandroid backup. Do you mean just your emails? l you emails, apps, and other play services? Or apps, media, launcher, sms', contacts?
All of your services linked to your Google account (such as Gmail, Play Store Apps, G+ media, Play Music, etc) is backed up by default. Have you turned this off and want to know how to turn it back on?
If you want to grab everything off your SD Card, you can zip it up and upload it to Drive.

sorry for making you confused
what i want backup is all data, like contacts, messages, gallery, settings and notes.
before a year or so, i done this with my note. that i made a backup, and restored another android phone, i got everything, including last message and contact list which i used before the backup on the first phone.
situation.
front glass of my S4 got a scratch. they says, this need to change display system, so there wont be any guaranty for the data.

If you are rooted and have CWM then your best option is a nandroid backup. This is only if you will restoring your backup to the same (type of) phone that you used to make the nandroid backup.
What I believe happened to you last time was the auto-backup feature provided by Google. This should already be on for you, but you can check by following these steps.
PS: This is the S4 Active forum, not S4 forum. Doesn't matter in this case though, but in the future you should look for the right one.
so now after my ongoing volume issue all the sudden my persistent ? Google search bar seems to partially disappear if almost totally randomly! f#(+ing annoying!!! I need to factory reset I guess.. I don't use backup to Google so cross that out. WHAT can I use to backup apps contacts pics music pics etc..? I've always had a rooted phone until now HATE IT SCREW VERIZON. THANKS GUYS
I've used Helium to back up app data and text messages. Some programs (such as whatsapp) allow you to manually save a backup to your internal storage as well. You can copy the backup to your PC with AirDroid or many other methods. You can also upload it to google drive or another cloud service.
