Hi there,
I lost my phone recently and APOLOGIES FOR THE NOOB-ISH QUESTION but:
Will the thief be able to pull out my files from my phone? The reason for this question is because I have no idea how secure Xiaomi's security features are.
I have a SCREEN PATTERN lock and files can only be accessed if entered correctly. I'm just not really sure if this security feature would suffice for the average thief. :crying:
Thanks in advance.
Not in the least. Security on a mobile device is a joke. Even if you wipe the device the internal storage is still there and can be recovered even after it is wiped.
Probably, yes he can.

Hello,
I tried to root my phone while it was encrypted. Now he no longer accepts my password at startup, is there a solution for this problem ?
I don't have any backup of my phone ! ><
Best regards :'(
OWNED !

No, and moreover, the phone has to be brought back to stock with ODIN; CWM won't be able to do anything if the phone is encrypted, unless things have changed greatly in the last few months. You'll lose your data, I'm afraid.
For what it's worth, any sort of firmware updates are difficult on an encrypted device, even official ones. I would advise against using encryption unless you have some really pressing need to do so (i.e., your company has some policy to that effect).
Need a little help here. I have the AT&T HTC One, and I'm pattern locked out of it. I got in trouble and my parents "grounded" me for a month by changing the pattern. That way I can still receive calls but can't text or do anything else on the phone. Unfortunately my dad is pretty tech-savvy and also changed my Google account password, so I can't unlock it that way.
Is there any way that I can get in, or am I just locked out? Unfortunately USB debugging isn't turned on on the phone, so I haven't been able to ADB into it. I also need to get in without losing any of my data. If anyone can help please let me know.

LOL, that's what you get for being naughty.
only way to disable it is to go into the bootloader and factory reset, but that's going to wipe your data too, other than that, wait till your un-grounded and get the pattern off your dad.
Just flash another rom. Pictures music etc will be saved. You just lose the text messages and app data which isn't saved on the SD card partition. That's what I would do.
Dead Thread but oh well

Well that's the M7's downside: It doesn't have an SD Card slot.

he wasn't referring to an sd card slot but to the sdcard partition (/sdcard) which is a symlink for /data/media/0
Lets say your BL is already unlocked and like above, your dad change your pattern code, you can simply re-flash the rom (/system partition) and your /data/media/0 will not be wiped. So yeah, it's a way to "bypass" the unknown pattern without loosing any user data.
If your bootloader is locked then it's another story since /data/media/0 will be wiped during the BL unlock in your attempt to reflash your /system partition. That will still get you rid of the unknown pattern but also all your files...
Hi all,
Greetings first as this is my first post on XDA and appreciate all you guys contribution all the way through here. Back to the topic I got my X9 using in good condition unless of low remaining space yet some weeks ago during my normal use the machine suddenly froze and reboot and after that though I am able to unlock on the first boot screen, by using the same unlock pattern I cannot enter my desktop and it always tell the pattern is incorrect. Yet no matter how many trial I did it didn't force me to exponential-time-wait. I googled for some time and learnt that the same problem happened on samsung S7 and some nexus device (those HTC made ones?) So at this point I am wondering if:
- there is any chance I can unlock my phone without data loss? i tried "find your phone" on ADM yet over-riding lock screen seems no longer work;
- The machine is clean as-is from the factory without any s-on/off or unlock of bootloader; under current circumstance am I still able to install TWRP and get a back up being dumped? (seems I can dump a copy and use the pc script to look into the gesture-key, or simply delete the gesture.key from TWRP / aroma manager);
- Any other alternatives I can do? I really want to keep the data inside as there were some precious photo as well as some chat-record that is not being backup to the g-drive;
thanks in advance =)
hello all,
i have been wondering and searching for quite some time on scenario when you lost/misplaced your rooted phone and want to have piece of mind knowing for sure whoever find it can not access your personal data. is there such an apps/utility/setting that will enable us to do so ? on unrooted phone we have frp lock and google lock. since we rooted our phone those 2 features are no longer able to stop anyone to get into recovery mode and do whatever they want.
i found a topic of twrp password protection https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software-hacking/twrp-password-protection-thread-t2990816 but is not fruitful according to devs.
any of you have been thinking the same with me ? what did you do ?
many thanks !
Hey,
Today I have an unusual request. At the Sister on the phone after the update asks for a pattern and despite entering the correct pattern it is not possible to unlock the phone, unfortunately the fingerprint for huawei after restart will not unlock the phone. Unfortunately, there is only one copy of her child's pictures on the phone and I don't think I need to know how important they are, I ask you for help. What can I do to get at least to the pictures in the internal memory. I read about adb but unfortunately the phone has no SD card slot so there is nowhere to put it in, I downloaded some Google programs that either do not support this model or are paid $ 60. All the time we try to enter familiar patterns every hour but after 3 attempts he locks the phone. The phone has an original system, no root, no modifications and USB debugging is turned off (as is standard in the system, because it was not needed by the sister).

Android is an open system so I believe there is a solution, thank you in advance! Greetings!

Isn't it great to see Android security in action. Send the phone to Huawei for unlocking. Proof of purchase will be required unfortunately.
I can do it here: consumer.huawei.com/pl/support/postal-repair
??
Proof of purchase will not be a problem.

That looks correct. Contact them with the issue, i'm sure they can help you.
Unfortunately, after a phone subject to Huawei, I received information that Huawei cannot unlock the phone without losing data even for the user who owns the phone.
are there any other solutions?
I tried ADB but with usb debugging turned off I can't do it.

This is exactly how it should work tbh. There is no reason for the fingerprint and pattern unlock to change after a simple update. Either more is going on, or you are extremely unlucky. If Huawei can not keep your data, maybe you are best to get them to reset and start using backups for your family member from here on.
Edit: I know that is a bad answer in your situation. However, it should not be a simple process to bypass security on any Android phone.
There is no possibility to use other way of unlocking (password or something else than pattern)?
Try doing an 'emergency backup' in eRecovery.

There is unfortunately no other option, otherwise a fingerprint would unlock the device.
How to make such a copy? After making such a copy will I have access to data? Can you expand the topic?
