So i took a break with android and tried iOS again so now i have a iPhone 6 plus 16gb. I had a guy offer me a midnight blue 32gb nexus 6 for it i was wondering what do you guys think of that ? Is it worth it ? he is also throwing in $150 on top. Sadly its the at&t model with bloat and branding but it is unlocked, i will be using it on tmobile. So is it worth it for me ? and also can i convert it to the google unlocked firmware instead of being on at&t and waiting for at&t to release ota's?

qiestions go into the q&a section, not into general. ill ask a mod to move the thread there..
Ooops that's what I ment to place it under ,thanks
I personally feel you should take the offer as its fairly easy to get around the bad stuff you mentioned. first off all carrier bloat is user removable. Also all updates to the nexus 6 will come straight from google so you'll get them the same time as everyone else.

How are the cameras on nexus 6 ? i use snap chat with front camera and like taking photos. Are the cameras good ? i had the moto x 2014 and hated how the front camera in low light got super laggy. oh and also if i wanted to trade it for a g4 on craigslist do you think i would have a problem trading the nexus 6 off for one ?

The camera on the Nexus 6 is noticeably better than the Moto X 2014's camera. I have had both devices. With this said, low light images on the Nexus 6 are decent, but not the best. Your 6 plus most likely will have had a noticeably better camera overall than the Nexus 6, but I do feel that the Nexus 6's camera is severely underrated.

This thread will show you how to get rid of the AT&T splash screen, bloat, and logo > http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6/general/remove-att-carrier-customization-thread-t2947581
The firmware/OS is the same on the AT&T version as every other version.
You don't have to wait for AT&T. There are easy ways to download and flash the OTA. In addition you can also download the factory images from Google and fastboot flash them.

Below you will see a quote from an XDA user who posted in another thread here. He/she does a good job of outlining the positives and negatives of each camera app. I personally use the Google Camera for HDR shots and video recording, but use the manual camera app for RAW capabilities.
Zerreth said:
They all suck.
LCamera is outdated, has no HDR and latest dev build has issues.
FV-5 is slow & buggy atm and I don't like the UI, 4K video is broken, no HDR.
Manual Camera has great UI & Control but no video recording & HDR ?!!!!
Moto X Camera has crappy UI, but feels polished. Burst mode works great, but no HDR. No focus control while recording video.
HTC Camera has crappy UI and no HDR. (But is the best one overall with focus control during 4K Video recording)
Google Camera is a joke but is the only one with working HDR.
It would be nice if google actually used & showcased their own Camera2 API on their own Nexus Devices. But apparently that's too much to ask ?
I'm hoping someone ports over the ColorOS Camera to the nexus 6 as they have done for the Oneplus One. As that one seems to have the most features, processing, and cleanest UI.

Looks like LG G2 is the premium cousin of Nexus 5. With only 2300mah battery, and low spec camera, I am glad I got the G2.
http://www.gsmarena.com/leaked_nexus_5_log_reveals_most_of_the_specs-news-6876.php
Most of the stuff is no surprise – a 5" screen (actually, 4.97") with 1080p resolution, 442ppi pixel density, a Snapdragon 800 chipset with 2GB of RAM and 16GB storage (on that concrete model, there might be others with more and hopefully not less storage). The phone ran Key Lime Pie (a.k.a. Android 4.4 KitKat), build version KRS74H.
It seems that the camera has been changed to an 8MP snapper (the Nexus 4 also got a lower-res camera than the Optimus G it was based on). It's too early to tell if there will be optical image stabilization (probably not though). There's a 1.2MP front-facing camera too.
The Nexus 5 will pack dual-band Wi-Fi a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC and GPS connectivity. The model whose log file leaked ran on North American LTE bands, but we should expect a Euro version too.
Pieces of the leaked log with the salient info
The phone will have wireless charging built in and while battery capacity wasn’t in the logs, FCC docs point to a 2,300mAh unit. There will also be a full set of sensors – accelerometer, magnetometer, gyroscope, proximity and light sensors as well as a barometer. The FCC measured the phone at 131.9mm tall and 68.2 mm wide, there's no info on thickness.
A case maker, SPIGEN, puts the Nexus 5 launch date at October 31, a month from now.
Thanks for the tip, Emanuele!
I spent most of last night snapping pics and a birthday party. After 2 years with my gnexus I realized how nice it is to have a great camera. I don't care that it's 8 mp. But I freaking love ois.

GNex's camera serves me well enough for daily snap. It was nothing to boast about.
What I hated most about the Gnex is the battery life with never ever lasted me the whole day, especially at night when you go out with friends, that is when you want your phone most.

Not true. Megapixels on cell phone cameras don't really mean ****. 8mp or 13mp, its a way higher resolution than it needs to be... No ones printing posters from their cell phone photos. Sensor quality and speed, iso performance, and compression/processing are all much more important. Which is why my 10mp DSLR takes way better photos than my 13mp phone or 16mp point and shoot.
Its still probably very likely that the N5 camera will be worse. But it won't be because of the lower mp sensor. It'll be because Google is going to cut corners wherever they can to get a $300-$400 price tag.

My brother has been in the printing and imaging biz for about 40 years and he says the same things. All those pixels are good for cropping smaller pics from big ones or printing posters but it doesn't help the quality of the image any.

Its 10 mp by default. 13 mp pics are squares. So, my comment on amazing photos are based on 10 mp pics. I'm amazed people still say mps matter. How many times has that theory been crushed. IPhone 5s is 8 mp and it CRUSHES the s4s 13 mp camera.

I agree with you about the battery life. The Galaxy Nexus had absolutely horrible battery life. The Nexus 5 has me interested but I'm still looking at the G2 as an upgrade to my current phone which is a Note 2 mostly because of the battery.
Yeah so true, what is the point of snapdragon 800, and 5"screen of the phone won't last you through out the day.

If people don't buy Nexus devices purely based on price, then they are nuts imo. There are always better phones hardware and specs wise out there that can easily have an AOSP rom flashed to it.
I always buy a phone that suits me the best and then I can always flash an AOSP rom if needed.

Especially with the upcoming Cyanogen CM ROM app coming to the Play Store, will be easy as pie to install the latest CM ROM on your phone, even if your not comfortable rooting, and flashing rom's yourself. Now will be super easy. Just need a phone that has an unlocked bootloader out of the box, and no funny ATT or Verizon lock down on it, which the G2 I think is developer friendly, and is in LG's best interest to gain support from the community, I think LG is in the Android position, like Samsung was back in the Galaxy S2 days a few years ago.

So youre saying youre going to buy one?
Unless the Nexus 5 announcement pulls a ton of surprises, I don't see how it could be a bigger draw to get it over the G2, besides the significantly lowered pricepoint of course.
2 weeks ago, I was in a bit of a dilemma over getting the G2 then or waiting it out for the Nexus. I'm glad I sorted that bit out.
Loving the G2 more with each day!

Is the G2 unlockable? I see there is TWRP and stuff but I don't see any root or custom roms yet. I like the G2 but ain't no way I'm going to be a frontrunner after the G2x burned me.
I'd rather have the N5 with lower specs then the G2 IF LG isn't going to support it.
My 2yr Galaxy Nexus running 4.3 AOKP is plenty fast and absolutely a beast on Battery (stock 2100mAh extended). I'd hate to get rid of it but the OMAP CPU is showing its age. Otherwise the best phone I have ever owned. I'll make a choice in December to see where the G2 and the N5 are. In a perfect world, with the N5 is close in hardware, ROMs could be ported back and forth easily allowing one to have the better spec'd G2 with all the development that comes with a Nexus.

You haven't used any other phone. The gnex is slow and Verizon 4.3 has terrible signal.
Hopefully that 8MP shooter is something like the Exmor R featured in the 5S.

I love CM and AOSP.
At the moment my SGS3 is running Android 4.2.2 CM 10.1. It is now very good but it arrived later then 4.3 stock on my N4.
AOSP 3rd party ROMS will always be at least 6 months behind official Android on Nexus.
So can anyone confirm or deny this?
I don't believe I have any images to take a picture of now and compare with side by side.
If anyone has any to provide, please do so. :good:

But moto x camera update can fight with Nexus 5 camera for sure.
Btw...the moto x flash led is really really really enhanced.
^ Thanks guys..
I have experience with Nexus 5 but have never used a Moto X.
I am not looking for the best camera smartphone but Nexus 5 camera is good enuff for me.... I use my DSLR when I need better performance or quality.
So, its reassuring to know what Moto X camera is at par with N5..
I was confused whether to get a N5 or MotoX ,, I m more inclined towards the Moto
Hold on, isn't Nexus 5's camera pretty awful? After using the S4 for pretty long I can say it has an okay camera, a very good for a mobile phone's perspective though. S4 is leaps and bounds ahead of N5 right?
I think the Moto X sits in between them?
Looks like now we are close to N5. Neither Moto X or N5 are good in the camera department in my opinion, but then again both had to keep costs down not like the S4.
It looks to me like this update claims are valid. It doesn't make the camera a brand new one (for instance the moto x still has trouble with white balance, and two quick pictures of the same subject can have two different color temperatures), but it definitely shows improvements.

Having had both the Nexus5 and MotoX at the same time I have been asked to compare the two many times. The best way to describe them in comparison I've found is this:
The MotoX is a great value phone with minimal lag and amazing features that truly make a smartphone smart.
The Nexus5 is the smallest computer I've ever had with no lag whatsoever, very nice vibrant screen and when necessary it makes phone calls too.
Camera wise, I took multiple pictures with both phones back to back and in low light the Nexus always won. This was a few updates ago and now I only have the MotoX so I can't compare with 4.4.3... but like I said I only have the MotoX.
P.S. with the limited information we have on the X+1 it seems as though we might be getting the best of both worlds. Might be worth the wait.

Don't know about other places but in India, the N5 costs as much as the S4.
Moto X costs around 15-20% less.
About the camera of N5, I find it adequate for the purpose...it's not that good but will serve me fine.
I haven't seen the Moto X..And here in India, Motorola has a unique sales strategy where all their phones are available thru only one online retailer. SO, you can't go to a retail shop and try it.
I am inclined to buy the Moto X as long as the camera is decent .. I mean if it matches N5 in camera, that 'll be fine for me.
As per earlier reviews, it seems N5 camera is better than Moto X. So, I wanted to find out if the Moto X has improved after the updates and it now matches the N5 in camera.
Cheers.

I disagree about the N5 being able to make phone calls. I went through 11 Nexus 5's due to major issues with call quality. Build quality was poor too as 2 of my replacements had dead pixels. Also the SIM tray on some of them didn't sit flush against the body.
It's the main reason why I replaced it with the Moto X.
Camera wasn't great but neither is the one in the Moto X. They're both average.
Didn't have any build quality issues on my Nexus and I was day 1 order (most of whom did have issues). If I went through 11 phones for call quality I'd look into a different carrier cause the strength of the Motorola radios might be masking the fact that your carrier sucks.
Your post however did remind me that the screen on the Nexus was incredibly bright and didn't produce an actual black but more of a gray and the speaker was horrid... Still, smallest PC I've ever had and better that most tablets I've seen for my usage
Ordered the Moto X finally... waiting for it impatiently now

Well when it came out the S4 was way more expensive than the N5. I'm not surprised the price went down since the new S5 is out (plus in the US the S4 has a slower processor compared to the N5).
I'm checking right now on Amazon:
Samsung Galaxy S4 unlocked seems to average $425
Samsung Galaxy S4 Google Play edition (from the play store) $649
Nexus 5 straight from Google Play is $349
Moto X unlocked from amazon ~$315 while from the motorola website $400
The camera is decent on the Moto X. I'm a visual artist so I can tell you it's not gonna replace real cameras, but it's great for those family photos, events, outside landscapes. It takes a bit of time for it to adjust the colors to the correct light around you. You can wait a bit and snap a good pic or do it quickly and color correct it later. My roommate took amazing pictures of landscapes in Ecuador and she's technologically inept and knows nothing about waiting for the right picture. So I can assume with sunlight the camera works great.
It doesn't have any of the Samsung or LG gimmicks and auto functions. Which is fine for me since I like to shoot normal pic and edit them later.
I was thorn too because of the camera, but then I decided to get the moto X and I can tell you that there's so much more this phone does for me that I can definitely overlook the camera aspect. Plus I never really use my phone as my main camera, more like a backup in a pinch or to remember things so it worked out quite nicely.

Good info
Hi all,
I currently own a Moto X 2014 and I'm considering buying a Nexus 6. Does anyone who owns the Nexus 6 think it's worth the upgrade from the Moto X 2014? I know the Nexus 6 has better specs, but the devices look near enough identical apart from size obviously. I miss my fast Nexus updates which is the main thing pulling me towards the N6.
Had the X 2014 for about a month. Miss the development community of the nexus. If you can handle the size then its an all around better phone. No regrets since switching.
I have a N6 in my cart and a X 2014 in my hand. If moto suite were able to work on the N6 I would click on process order now. But I don't think I could live without it.
Thanks for the replies. The Moto suite doesn't bother me too much I could easily live without it. The size of the Nexus 6 is a bit of a concern but I'm sure I'd get used to it. I think I'll sit on this over the weekend before making a decision. I do miss the Nexus developer community.

Yes.
I had the 2014 Moto X and returned it for the Nexus 6. I too was concerned about the size of the Nexus but its really not that bad. I don't miss the Moto X at all. The fast updates and Dev community makes the Nexus a clear winner IMO.

The size is what made me leave nexus. I had nexus 4 then nexus 5. Now I am on HTC m8. Glad I didn't jump to nexus 6. I will wait for the next nexus;if there are any.

I had an M8 too, loved it. I only got rid of it because of the camera really. I'm almost certainly going to get the M9 or HIMA as it's being called.

I had the M8 too but it bothered me how tall it is and how the camera was worse than my M7. I ordered Moto X and it was almost $622 with leather back and I could not justify getting a bad camera and small battery for that price. I returned my Moto X 2014 (I've had 2) and jumped to Nexus 6. No regrets at all. It is every bit Motorola and Nexus. Miss the Moto Voice at times but that is the only thing I miss. Just my .02 cents.

Thanks. Yeah the M8 was a bit tall for me too. Isn't the camera in the Nexus 6 the same as the one in the Moto X 2014 apart from the ois?

They made M8 like iPhone and I dislike iPhone with a passion (trying to not use the hate word) lol
No, the camera module is completely different.
Moto X has an older version of Sony sensor (IMX135) that is 5 piece I believe and has f2.4. It's a pretty old sensor that I don't think anyone else is using but I may be wrong.
Nexus 6 has the same sensor (IMX214) as OnePlus One and a lot of other 2014 phones with 6 piece lens and f2.0 for wider aperture and better low light pics. OIS helps too of course. They need to work on their software but that's a whole different can of worms.
Motorola did something right with the X by going with Sony sensor but they picked a very old sensor that may have been laying around just like they did with the processor on 360. I have no complains about my 360 but I'm just making a point. I don't know why they do it but I am seeing a pattern here?

Thanks for the clarification. Do you think Lollipop will bring any software improvements to the Moto X? I'm close to pulling the trigger on a Nexus 6. I almost purchased a OnePlus in the week but decided I'd rather not go down that road. So, for me it's either stick with the Moto X until the M9 is released or get a Nexus 6. The only thing that slightly concerns me about the Nexus 6 is its size. However, I'm sure I'd adjust.

You're very welcome. Instead of saying thanks, better thing to do is hit the thanks/thumbs up that helps with other person's repo and gets the point across.
Anyways, I used the X with Lollipop and didn't see much difference. Don't get me wrong, it is not a bad camera and software is pretty decent but it is just not there yet. Being an old sensor, I think it has it's limitations on top of software. Go to a store like TMobile, ATT or Sprint and play with one before pulling the trigger. It feels just like X, just bigger IMHO.
I actually lioe the dimple and sides better on N6 since X is almost too skinny and slippery.

Haha, no worries man. I was just making sure you know. Feel free to ask any other questions you may have. I had both at one point and i picked N6 but YMMV. Just play with N6 and see if you like it. I know, I am not going back to X just because N6 is every bit X and some more IMHO. Be sure to play with one at a store first if you are concerned about the size.

The size takes about a week to get used to. It also depends on what your previous phone was. To me, I started becoming comfortable after a day or two because the phone I had prior to this was 5.5.
Once you use it for a week, you won't want to go back and your view on phones will look different especially to phones that don't have wide screens

I did have a G3 earlier this year and I was happy with the size of that device, so the Nexus 6 should suit me. I really miss owning a Nexus phone and all the perks that come with it.
I've played with a Nexus 6 in store today and the size is fine. However, now I've got Lollipop on my Moto X 2014 I'm even more torn.
Maybe you should ask this same question in the moto x forum. Both sides of the fence...
What are your opinions regarding the Nexus 6 vs the Moto X Pure? Which do you think will be future proof? Does anyone know if either of these can do simultaneous talk and web browsing on Verizon?
I know nexus 6 on Verizon cannot surf web over lte and talk at the same time. Semi-obviously you can still talk and browse over WiFi.
Before Nexus 6, I tried moto x 2013 dev edition... And to be honest it paled in comparison to the community support of nexus 6. Not sure if it is the same on the newer pure models.... But on the dev edition you could not downgrade the got or boot portions, and very few unofficial updates were provided by community. People largely just ran stock with xposed, afraid to fastboot stuff for fear of bricks, and with little to no ROMs because no one wanted to loose the stock framework, and xposed does everything.
Was not a very good environment for tinkering and learning tbh. Nexus has many more possibilities.
MotoX wins for stock features though, nexus ambient display pales in comparison to the 2013 moto x.

Nexus 6 can do simultaneous voice and data on Verizon if have VOLTE enabled. All new Motos on Verizon are the same.
VOLTE appears to lead to a lot of dropped calls if you live in or travel to areas with poor 4G support from what I've read. Is that correct? That is why I never enabled in when I had my S6. Does Google still release updates for the older devices such as the Nexus 5? Just wondering how Google is to older Nexus devices.
Never had a moto x phone but I believe this one does boil down to user choice more than specs. I'm going with the whale though

I would switch to the Moto X Pure Edition and probably will when it is released. I really like the Nexus 6 but the Moto X has one thing I really want: a microSD card slot.

All Nexus phones down to Nexus 4 (2012) received updates to LMY48I (5.1.1). Nexus 5 got update to MPA44I (6.0). So, yes Google takes care of older devices.
So anybody have anymore thoughts on moving from a Nexus 6 to the new Motorola Moto X Pure 2015? I'm still thinking about it but I'm wondering which is better for customization with ROMs/rooting. If anyone has any thoughts on anything between the two phones, please share. Thanks guys.
Not sure how it is now.... But 2013 moto x dev edition you couldn't ever downgrade, meaning you couldn't ever try out an upgrade with out being stuck.
This, combined with everyone not wanting to loose stock features meant no one did anything but run xposed. I think its going to be hard to beat nexus if your main thing is customization.
I'll be selling my Nexus 6 and getting the new moto pure. Its a no brainer for me.

I don't care much for modding/customization. Just root is fine with me so I can use adaway and my android tools.
SD card slot is a huge plus with me since I have so many photos/videos on my phone, I take an extreme amount of photos and I like having a lot of music for the gym.
I haven't tested it myself, but I do expect a better camera.
I myself prefer the natural colors of a LCD display than amoled.
Front facing speakers are pretty much the same which is a plus and the screen size isn't much different.
I love my nexus 6 don't get me wrong. But the moto pure better suits my needs than this phone. Processing power won't be much different or noticeable and I'm cool with that.

Im hoping someone can find out if there will be any modding options for the new moto x. Anybody else, please chime in. Thanks.

Yes, just wondering if custom ROMs will be available for the new moto x. I figured the bootloader would be unlocked. But just wondering if it's worth giving up my nexus 6 for. Thanks.
I was in the same situation a week ago Pure X vs N6, the new nexus arent all that appealing to me the Huawei is god ugly the N5X looks nice but with midrange specs (will pick one up if its on carrier subsidy though for the GF), if you dont need the SD Card, dont take an extreme amount of Pics, and don't mind AMOLED then the N6 is a very good buy right now, they're dropping in price you can get a 64 gb for 339 now, and 32gb under 300... The pure x starts at 399 for a 16gb model... any customizations you add will add to the cost...the newer SoC isnt worth the extra 200 or so if you dont need the SD Card and Camera.. The Pure X will have decent amount of dev since it can be unlocked (btw unlocking the BL on the Pure X voids warranty since its technically not a Dev edition) but nothing ever beats a Nexus in regards to developemt/custom roms etc.. I chose to save 200 dollars and came back to the Nexus 6.

Great info, thank you!!!! I don't take alot of pics anyway and I think the AMOLED screen is a little better far as color, pure colors that is. And yes I got my Nexus 6 64 gb for $350 sent to me so I do like it. Just thought I might trade up but I'm definitely thinking about keeping the Nexus, just wanted to see someones thoughts on customization of the new moto x. Thanks again. Anybody else wants to share, please do.
Hi, I am currently on a n6 and I am thinking of getting the big pixel 2 when it comes out. Would you say this is a good idea? My biggest concern is I am on TMobile and I want my new phone to have 600mhz capabilities. Would you wait or get the pixel 2 even if it does not have 600mhz.
The thinks I an having a issue on is the camera on the front sucks, and I get long loading times for apps and freezing.
Thanks for the help

I flashed Resurrection Remix ROM on my N6 and it's running flawlessly... There's not many phones that would replace the N6 other than the Nexus 6p and the ZTE Axon 7... I named those phones because of the dual front facing speakers! Also the camera being improved over the N6... The only phone that has my attention that doesn't have dual front facing speakers is the One Plus 3T! 6GB or RAM and it's price! Seeing that phone against the S8+ really has me considering saving my money even if I can get the S8+ at T-Mobile for around $30 a month added to my phone bill...

With the exception of Nexus 6p, that phone is really easy to root! That's what had me stay with the N6 for so long! The development community is huge for these devices! For example, I'm on Android 7.1.1 with all the Pixel features I even have Google's assistant working! The only reason why I'm halfway considering upgrading is because of the camera... I have to use an app that has manual controls to get that focusing issue under wraps! Other than that, this phone is one of the best that I have owned! I like the size, I love the speed and stability, I really like the dual front facing speakers, that's hard to leave! It's so many positives about this device!

IMHO I don't think Pixel XL 2 will be worthy. We'll see when they will reveal the three devices. Maybe Taimen (Pixel XXL ?) will be a good choice, if they don't lock root access/bootloader or take out some features.
You already can improve your camera, many are quite better, but you'll loose many features too.
We had a thread about any worthy phone exchange, Axon 7 was the closest to N6 but not worthy at all. BL locked and camera aren't really better. Everything else is equal.
OP5 looks a good choice for now, heavy hardware configuration, good camera and community, but no front facing stereo speakers, no jack, smaller screen size and maybe definition too, maybe no wireless charging..
I cross my fingers that Taimen will follow N6 line, otherwise idk. I may try OP5 or even MiMix2, I don't really know, I'm a bit lost about that..
This is the next phone I want. I've been waiting for months for it to show up. It's a beast! My only fear is that it won't be rootable
