Lollipop smart lock issue - Xperia Z3 Compact Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm having an odd problem with Lollipop's smart lock feature that I can;t seem to find much about elsewhere on the internet so I wonderin if it might be related to a Sony app.
I set up the phone's security and it works fine. Then I set up a smart lock trusted place/device (same scenario happens with both). Put the phone to sleep and wake up and the smart lock seems to work -- I have to only swipe up to get to the homescreen (no password required). But from then on the security is basically disabled altogether. The next time I wake the phone I no longer have to swipe up the lockscreen. If I leave the trusted place/device the phone also just goes straight to the homescreen. When I return to the trusted place/device, same thing.
So essentially the smart lock feature is disabling security altogether on the first "smart" unlock. The only way to get security working again is to go back and set it up all over again (enter new pattern/pin). Has anyone else experienced anything similar?

ATT Galaxy Note 3 won't change lock screen security methods?

I was wondering if anybody had noticed this.
When I change lock screen security from swipe to say "lock pattern", it does nothing.
It'll disable other lock widgets, because I guess in 4.3 or touchwiz you can't have widgets and lock patterns (but I digress).
The lock screen unlock will still be a swipe, no pattern.
Anybody else experience this?
Any work arounds?
Thanks.

I assume you changed the timeout for the lock engage?

That baffles me until I noticed I did not change the timeout for the Secured lock time to instant. Then I said to myself, this can be useful. Set Secured lock time out to 1 hour and use the password lock option. If I lost or displaced my phone, it will be password locked in 1 hour but if I use my phone constantly every 5-10 minutes, I still have the benefit of the easy to use slide to lock knowing that it is backed up with a password lock after 1 hours of no activity.
Then I try to repeat this on my old Sprint Note 2, Sprint Note 3, Samsung Note 10.1 2014 and I can't do it. Instead of a slide to unlock within the specified Secured lock time, I am greeted with a totally unlock screen. Which is really bad for butt dialing and accidental touch screen use since the screen is not protected by slide to unlock while it is in your pocket.
It seems this is a unique feature to AT&T note 3.
Try turning off the lock screen effect. I had this problem and I changed the effect from watercolor to none and that fixed it.

[Q&A] Tap2Wake unexpected usage

Hi guys,
I've noticed that Tap2Wake function is just too sensitive. It doesn't use proximity sensor so my phone can be woken up even in my pocket. When this happen, it does some stupid things like launching walkman etc.
The only way I see to prevent this happening is to set different lock screen type (PIN, password or pattern).
Does anyone have any other ideas or solutions to fix that?
Yeah I just got this phone and was excited to use this feature but also found that it was turning on and activating random applications while in my pocket. I don't like enabling the lock screen so I'll need to come up with another solution. I turned the feature off for now. I'm going to play around with Tasker to see if it can control turning the tap to wake function on and off. If so, I'll have it turn the feature off whenever the phone is turned upside down (which it always is while in my pocket) if that's even possible.

Smart lock not working...?

Does none of the smart lock tools actually work with this phone? The trusted places option worked perfectly on my OPO, but with this phone, I'm always asked to input my pattern or fingerprint when I'm at home. It's not an issue if I'm just turning on the phone because the fingerprint is super fast, but sometimes I like to open a notification right from the lock screen, but I can't do that if the smart lock isn't working...
I am running OOS 4.0.3 and I an confirm that Smart Lock is working.
I have set a trusted device via Bluetooth, in this particular case my Bluetooth module in my car.
Here's what happens and hopefully this is what you expect.
When I am outside of my house and walking to my car, my phone is locked and requires my fingerprint.
I turn on my car and my phone pairs with my car, which then enables the Smart Lock feature.
I then turn on my screen on my phone and I see a Lock Screen but it is slightly different. The lock symbol located at the bottom has a circle around it indicating that the phone only requires a swipe to go to my home screen. It does not require my fingerprint or pin/pattern.
No matter what you do the Lock Screen is present when Smart Lock is functioning. So far I am ok with this.
If you are looking to never see the Lock Screen when Smart Lock is functioning then I am not sure if you can do that.
There could be a way using Tasker for example IF Bluetooth is Connected to Car, set Screen Lock timeout to never and that might prevent the Lock Screen from appearing.
WE would have to test this and I am not sure if Tasker can change the Lock Screen timeout.
I hope this helps.

It seems the trusted location is very spotty for me at the moment. Sometimes it works and others it doesn't.
I've got a similar problem. The phone never unlocks when I'm at a trusted location. It unlocks when I'm connected to a trusted Bluetooth though. I've set the location using both my address and by using the Google Maps screen. Nothing works.
I'm using a OnePlus 3T with the regular operating system.
Same here. Trusted location only seems to work for a few hours after adding/resetting a location. After that, it is no longer recognized. I did see an issue brought up in the Pixel forums about this issue, but clearly it's not confined to that device. Here's a few threads about it:
https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/phone-by-google/KNrSoHOhb_Q
http://forums.androidcentral.com/go...art-lock-trusted-places-doesnt-seem-work.html
Hopefully they are still looking into the issue and will release a fix as part of Android O whenever that comes to the 3/3T. Or maybe it's something that OP could look into, but I doubt we'll get that fixed in a timely manner either way...
I have the opposite problem. Phone will always unlock without prompting for fingerprint or code, regardless of being in a trusted location or not. It's pretty annoying.

Screen lock doesn't work.
Hi! My problem kinda different. My OP3T screen lock doesn't work. I tried to turn off smart lock. Changing the screen lock type, still doesn't work. Even with fingerprints. So anybody can open my phone by swiping it up. Did somebody have the same problem? Should i upload the video of it and link it?

Unlock screen with Tasker [Autoinput not working]

Hi,
I'm looking for a way to unlock my screen to toggle VPN (Android default VPN since there doesn't seem any decent third-party app out there, which supports IPsec-VPNs) on while on specific wifi network. Everything is working fine except the screen unlock, since Autoinput doesn't work with screen off/locked.
I tried of course the Autoinput-Action "Screen unlock" but this doesn't seem to work on a rooted 7.1: Screen just gets turnd on, Notifications jumping a littl ebit up but then the srceen tunrs of again.
Also tried Secure Setting, but this app seems to be long dead...
Any ide, how to accomplish this? And no, Open-VPN is no option, since the target doesn't support it (it would make things so much easier of course since there is a real tasker integration available).
Thanks!
any idea how to get auto input working?
the unlock action can't be configured, so how should this ever work?
so if I understand correctly you want to turn on the screen and unlock it.
you have managed to turn it on, how about turning off screen lock, and then turn it on? then you should be being straight to home screen.
since you are already using Joao's apps, there is something about disabling lock screen in his Autosettings app I think.

thanks for your answer! you are right about what I'm trying to archiv and I guess the Unlock-Action from AutoInput does soemthing similar since it disables the lock screen completely and I have to set it active again after using this task. The disableing works, but the screen doesn't stay on long enough for AutoInput to perform the intended task – the unlock action doesn't have any configuration options, so basically I have to add something, which ensures the screen is on for a certain amount of time

Accessing that area can be done on Samsung devices aswell. This is not a security flaw, that area is meant to be accessible from lock screen so if you need to turn flashlight on or similar things without needing to unlock your device.
But if you pick some of the buttons it will request you to unlock the device to do the action. Only some of the buttons can be used while on lock screen.
On Samsung if you touch WiFi, Bluetooth, mobile data and position tracking on lock screen it will then request you to unlock the device to be able to turn them off or on.
After checking my Asus Rog phone 2 I see what you mean now. It seems Asus didn't add such security, which they should.

in my Huawei they totally block using the above scroll bar and add some useful shortcuts on lock screen for flash and so on
