Hello guys, I know that there are similar threads and I'm sorry for posting, but I have some specific questions. Having the phone for over two months, I want to try some custom roms.
However in service menu says that the bootloader cannot be unlocked, and I really frustrated. My previous phone was xperia mini and I used to change roms every week!
Anyway, I have done some research and found that some guys managed to change the status from no to yes. One flashed a relock. Ftf. An other flashed some kind of custom stock stock Rom.
But I'm not willing to risk my device by testing those methods. What do you think? Is there any workaround?
I'm running a pre rooted lollipop rom.
Please help!
cmon! guys, help a little!
You can't unlock it. You can only flash custom ROMs which use a stock kernel, so things like CyanogenMod are out.

What if I try using any method? Will it brick?
It can't be done, if it says no that's it I'm afraid. Sony have it locked down pretty well. Only way to get that to a yes is change your device to one that says bootloader unlock allowed YES.

ok guys, i gav eit a try (using sony's official method and flashtool) and nothing happened. Anyway, I guess that i must live with it. Have you any good roms/ kernels to recommend?
You need to unlock your device (to get it work on other carriers), then reclaim to Sony. Full instructions here: http://www.htcmania.com/showthread.php?t=779828 (Spanish forum).

You bootloader just can not be unlocked mate. Try trading your device out for a different one which allows unlocking bootloader or just install ROMs that don't require custom kernels. I'd recommend this ROM:

I contacted Sony about these and here is the answer
Dear Mr. Mikes,
Thank you for contacting Sony Xperia Support.
With regards to your inquiry, we would like to inform you that we strongly recommend that standard users do not unlock the boot loader or root, as it is not needed and may void your warranty. We are proud to deliver great phone experiences through our rigorously tested and official software releases. You can see all information about the unlocking the boot loader in the new xperia phones in our developer’s website at: *http://developer.sonymobile.com/201...://developer.sonymobile.com/unlockbootloader/. It is a procedure for which we do not provide any support and should you choose to do it it is done on your responsibility.
We would like to inform you that due to the Product's Warranty ,as described in the Warranty's third condition: ''...Nor does this warranty cover any failure of the Product due to accident, software or hardware modification or adjustment, acts of God or damage resulting from liquid...''
Also we would like to inform you that the procedure that you described is a modification of the software and due to the above condition, the product warranty is voided.

You can't install custom roms on locked bootloader. You can't unlock your bootloader if in status it says unlock not allowed, which means your bootloader is encrypted. This happens if you bought either a carrier branded device or the one made for a specific market, such as Malaysia. Some governments require OEMs to close down their bootloaders forever.
In theory, it is possible to hijack one of init scripts and redirect it to load a custom rom, but you can't change or modify kernel, which means that once the OEM abandons your device, as it happened with Z1-Z3, you won't be getting any security updates... . The last time it was done (hijacking init script) was on Xperia ION. To have custom roms, you need to get another device...
Mine did say bootloader cant be unlocked. I had bad battery so I gave it to service and service did change battery, and they did install stock rom because I had flashed phone. And phone came with unlocked bootloader yes so I did unlock it official way. I didnt find any good 7.0 update and I locked it back via flashtool. So think before you try to do it, you cant use PC-Companion after you unlock bootloader.

This is for anyone having issues with latest Voo-Doo unlocking tool and LG6, LG8 and newer updates.
Latest Samsung updates has broken Voo-Doo unlocking tool, forcing SIM-locked users to use Voo-Doo to deactivate SIM-LOCK on each device boot.
Here is small fix that will prevent your device from re-locking on each boot. Voo-Doo unlocking tool is still needed for first unlock.
Flash in CWM Recovery.

Have fun and please share your feedback!

1. It depends. If Samsung will update relevant library then you will need to re-apply the fix. I'm currently working on some 100% permanent solution.
2. This fix has nothing to do with EFS partition.
Awesome stuff! :victory:
So now im just curious, What was the cause exactly ?

This must be a bug in latest roms. I have a factory unlock s3 and suddenly it started asking me for the sim unlock code?! what sim unlock code?!?! lol.
First time in life that I have to use an unlock method for a...factory unlocked phone. Crazy ****! Well at least it works. Downgrading fixes the problem too.

no need to be sad you can still unlock bootloader and do everything you want except S-OFF as of now. Only if you are from verizon you are doomed. So head to HTCDEV unlock bootloader use hasoon toolkit for easy bootloader unlocking. flash twrp recovery. Download any custom rom you like and welcome. But keep in mind unlocking bootloader wipes complete 32gb storage so anything important must be backed up below is link for toolkit

it can void your warranty it usually always does if you report a issue with the device HTC will go "our records show you have unlocked the bootoader" and yea they pretty much refuse to fix your device. id wait till revone works on the latest hboot. can unlock without need to unlock via htc dev ^^
best of luck id go crazy having a android phone i couldnt flash ROM's on XD

The reason to Unlock the Bootloader is that you are able to Flash a Costume Kernel. There are ROMs for Costume Kernel as well as for Stock Kernel(The Kernel your phone already has). The only problem is that if you are on Stock Kernel (Locked Bootloader) you are only able to upgrade to Android 2.3.7 Gingerbread. If you want to upgrade to Android 4.0.1 ICS or higher you will need a Costume kernel and there for have to Unlock your Bootloader. I don't recommend for you to try to Unlock your Bootloader since you phone's manufacture date is over 11W29. IDK what SIM-Locked has to do with any thing but if you want to check try inserting a SIM-Card from another Carrier to see if it works.
BTW click HERE for a list of Costume ROMs for both Costume Kernel and Stock Kernel.

Alright. Thank you for your explanation. You cleared all my doubts now.
And I have one last question, so let's say I want to flash this ROM ( GINGER ELITE ), it's a GB version. And that means I don't need to unlock my bootloader to flash that ROM. Whereas if I want to flash the XPERIENCE ROM ( which is based on JB ),I MUST unlock my bootloader. Am I right ?
Ps: your thread is looking good. I can consider it as an index of X8's ROMS. Great work, keep it up. :good:

okay 12w05 there is a paid way to unlock bootloader req in forum.... and when you are looking for a custom ROM please read the installation instructions and descriptions before installing, every deV mentions his method of installing and requirements so for your GINGER ELITE read the full thread properly it will b mention there whether it is for stock or custom kernel... diff b/w stock n custom kernels is STOCK= can flash the custom rom without unlocking boot loader. I also want to add that if a ROM is Gingerbread it does not mean that it is for Stock Kernel. In my List, the Kernel that the ROM supports is in parenthesis. As you can see there are some Gingerbread ROMs that are only for Costume Kernel.
I am newer too. I also want to know more about it, sorry for my poor english.
Everytime I have had an android smartphone, I unlocked and rooted straight away. I know what benefits unlocking the bootloader and rooting the ROM bring to the whole experience of using the smartphone but I have never actually looked or thought about the negative effects of unlocking and rooting.
I just received my Mi 9 Lite last night and I am just about the unlock its bootloader and get Magisk flashed. But before I do that, I am interested in people's opinion about what they think of rooting their phone.
- Can I root the stock ROM without unlocking the bootloader? I have heard this is possible but no idea how! If yes, does it have any limitations or is it the same as rooting after unlocking the bootloader?
- Does anyone have any other valid reason for not unlocking their device except warranty and maybe system updates? They always warn you about security, system updates and finger print sensors not working etc... is this true?
About the system updates, usually Xiaomi publishes the flashable ROM on their website which I can download and flash it manually so I don't have to worry about missing out on ROM updates.
Warranty wise, I am not too concerned either.
Security wise, I don't think this is an issue too as I always know what I would be flashing and installing on my phone.
Thank you.
I used some rooted device before . Don't no what you need, but, with this phone WITH NO ROOT, it's possible to uninstall or freeze some app, using blokada, you can stop/ block many thing.... and keep a clean and fresh device, with no mod, like out of the box ; )
I'm also getting this phone, can anyone from Europe confirm if Mi 9 Lite supports Carrier Aggregation? (LTE+)

One reason to maybe not root/unlock is it can stop NFC payments being made?

I've unlocked and flashed the Indian Rom V13.0.4.0.SMOINXM using MiFlash
It boots into the Recovery Screen saying "This MIUI version can't be installed on this device".
Am I doing anything wrong?
Thanks guys!

flashall
not flashalllock
keep bootloader unlock ed
You can't re-lock the bootloader on a rom for a different region, you have bricked your device. Try reflash (in fastboot mode) the chinese stable rom from here LINK
Then reflash the india rom but choose the following pic choice.
And read this below first
PSA: Flashing MIUI Global on these Xiaomi devices may brick your device
If you flash MIUI Global ROM on certain Xiaomi devices with a locked bootloader, your device will not boot. Here are the Xiaomi devices that could brick.

Thanks galenzha0!
It worked for me!
Will I be able to re-lock when the Global Rom be released?
I've flashed a Poco X3 Pro from EEA to Indonesian (to get the call recording enabled) with the same procedure and it worked after re-locking the phone!
I didn't understand very well why I couldn't re-lock at this time!
Thanks

You can't relock it , Xiaomi are preventing it because people were buying chinese imports cheap, flashing global roms and selling them at higher prices. For now, your bootloader stays unlocked whatever rom you install that isn't the region specific software.

OMG!
Didn't know about, otherwise I wouldn't buy the Redmi Note 12 Pro til the Global!
The issue for now is NFC (Google Pay Contactless) and some apps like banking that doesn't work if you unlock the device.
Do you guys have any advice or should I return it to the seller while I still have time?
No, you will be able to install the global rom when it is released, however you will (unless there is an exploit) have to keep your bootloader unlocked. I think banking apps and Gpay complain more about rooting then bootloader but don't quote me on that, I'm not sure and it's early days.... Its a good hanset give it time
Had this guy help me since he has an authorized account: [email protected]
I ended up bricking my phone trying to sort it out, but he fixed it with the special Unlock Tool.
Got the factory ROM loaded and bootloaded locked. Can now use Google Apps including Google Pay/Wallet.

What is the factory rom? I only see India (no nfc/gpay etc) and Chinese so far. I didn't mind the chinese rom but there were still portions of it that hinged on the language.
