I was under the impression that device protection on lollipop for android one devices would work no different than nexus devices .it turned out to be untrue. I was using stock 5.1 lollipop (encrypted) with no changes to the bootloader or recovery. On downloading the 5.1.1 update I went to recovery amd factory reset the device and flashed it with OTA zip file 5.1.1 . I was then able to go through the setup screen on first boot without it asking me for me google credentials of the previous rom.
Thus proving even if your device is looked and encrypted it can be easily reused by flashing the rom.

Thats the point.. thats exactly what a thief would do ie format the data and use the device again.Even after format it should have been locked to my google account.
You don't really get the point of the factory reset do you? The point of the factory reset is to wipe everything and set the phone to the factory conditions. That 'everything' also includes your google account. Name one device that keeps an account that it signed on to after a factory reset, I'll name a unsecure device. Even nexus devices don't do that.
Try not to lose you phone.

My dear friend let me explain the point to you. Device protection for lollipop devices acts as a deterrent for thieves. In case you loose your phone, for a thief it will be nothing more than a paper weight . If you read the first post . I forcefully cleared the phone from recovery just as a thief would do because he wouldn't know the unlock code. However on setting up the phone I should have it hit a dead end because the device should have been locked to the google account of the previous user.

Besides device protection will not work on your phone as you have unlocked the bootloader and replaced the stock recovery which defeats the purpose

still if a thief knows how to do a factory reset, he's also able to flash a custom rom or reflash the stock rom without having to login in to the device. Which is really easy process with most phones out there.

This is where the locked bootloader comes into play, an average user wouldn't tinker with the bootloader or stock recovery. To install a new rom one has to unlock the bootloader . Now for a thief he wouldn't be able to unlock the bootloader because the stolen phone will be already locked with the pin even the usb cable won't work. So all he can do is factory reset the device ...had device protection been working as it should have he would have hit a dead end there as well.
Don't know why google didn't enable this feature for android one devices .

Few month ago found out there was a stock option for encrypting the data. After the process everything worked great. However, I decided to try out a different rom and rebooted to the phone into recovery mode. Come to find out it's also locked out by the encryption. First reaction was awesome, android got this on a lock down on all sides. Here comes the bad news. My normal encryption password does not work with the recovery encryption password. It keeps telling me I got the wrong password. It's seems I can't make any changes anymore.
I was wondering, what do you do in this case? I can use the phone as is for now but what if I want to update or sell my phone, what do I do? I can't even full wipe the phone for fresh new rom.
I have recently purchased a used Nexus 6 and I have just noticed that my phone may be compromised. It took a while to set up the phone as i wasn't getting the original account info to complete the setup, but now that I have run the setup, and set up a 'group' on the home screen that I labelled 'Entertainment' which holds a couple games. I see now, that the label has been changed to 'D's Sacs Was DQ'. Why would this happen and or what can be done to secure my phone? Please help!

Flash userdata.img and erase and flash cache.img in fastboot (if you have a unlocked bootloader) and after that data factory reset in recovery and reboot. That all you can you do.
Flashing it to ensure it was wiped of anything on it prior to use, since it was used, should have been the first thing done to it (ensuring ti wasn't locked to an account or you would have issues afterwards).

How do i know if I have an unlocked bootloader? I'm worried if i do a factory reset I'd be locked out if their account is still considered the original.

To get in booltoader/fastboot mode:
1. with adb, type in cmd: adb reboot bootloader
2. Manualy: power down the phone and press both volume up and down + power.

That was an issue when I began. I needed their account info to log in during setup but then was able to add my info.

Try logging in and boot the phone with the original account, delete the account and then perform a data factory reset in recovery. Then boot up with your account and that should do it usualy.

Or even easier... do you see a little icon of an unlocked lock at the bottom of the screen when you boot your phone?
Or, something much less nefarious...
I would think that it could be possible you may have placed the phone in a pocket with the home screen showing (or some similar action) and the folder got renamed with random presses that also triggered random words through autocomplete. Been there, done that.
It was me.. I hacked you.. But once I was in, I couldn't think of anything to do, so I renamed a folder. Was gonna key log your bank details but this was way better

I have a friend with Huawei P9 Plus with this Firmware VIE-L29C636B103, i don't know what is in his mind on that time but unfortunately after restarting the phone he forgot his PIN to unlocked the phone and the fingerprint was not working. As far as i know, the only solution is by Factory Reset the phone, but he did not want to loose his data. Is there any way to solve this problem?

No still original without custom recovery. Can i use TWRP to backup first the data ?
The problem is that you not unlock and then root yet. You basically can't use TWRP. If unlock bootloader, the phone will be immediately wipe data.

He or you could've used it to delete ". key" -files through adb. But that is only useful to have access to the data. You can't set new fingerprints or delete any of them because he must know his forgotten password for it. So it would only be a temporary solution.
Unlocking the bootloader never erased my data. It couldn't cause of some failure appeared at let's say 30%. But I'm not certain that the failure appears also on his phone. Which leads to my suggested solution:
He should try to remember the password and include any typos(yes, typos. My pin was 85320 but it also happened that i typed two times the false pin. The outcome was 85350. Huawei's layout was kinda bull**** and vulnerable for that type of failures. At least to me.) As I know it must be a PIN, not a password. If that fails get rid of the data and make a factory reset.

Today i connect the P9 Plus Phone USB to HiSuite in Windows 10, i just leave this around 5 minutes and suddenly it connected to HiSuite automatically. Now i'm still backing up the data pictures, etc. Still wondering why in windows 10 it can connected automatically than in windows 7 After backup finished i'm gonna factory reset the phone.
My mistake on comments on unlocking bootloader will erase date since I mixed up the process. Now I remembered that after unlock, if you proceed further to root the phone, the phone will have to erase the data immediately. No option for you to choose not to erase data during rooting process if not mistaken. That's why I dare not to root again the phone.

How to use adb ???
When buying from ebay dead phone it might be either password, fingerprint or even Google locked (not sure what the last one means).
Would I be able to use it after fixing the screen and hard reset?
Older Androids at least up to 4.4.2 upon the hard reset simply eraze all data and let you use the phone.
What is the situation with Android 5, 6 and 7?

Be careful if the reactivation lock is on from settings you won't be able to use or flash anything no matter if it's on android 4,5, or 6.
Even if you do hard reset when setup the device it will ask for samsung account password.
You must have device owner password to unlock the reactivation lock.

Doesn't work....at least on the 100+ phones iv Google unlocked..I for got the name...but it's in a hidden partition in no way associated with the operating system or recovery etc etc

Yes FRP does not seem to be an easy one, so all ebay phones are potentially bricks. BTW FRP was first introduced in 5.1

Also no two same phones unlock the same way that iv found anyway....and with new security updates every few months,right when someone finds a back door its patched...the result is the internet is full of different videos for the same phone and none of them work....its frustrating. ..for every 25 videos i watch maybe one will work to unlock the phone im working on....
So I bought this phone from eBay, like many before it. But this time it came with a twist: when I booted the phone, initial setup ran and all wend fine until I got to the register Google account screen.
There, the phone says: "This phone was reset. To continue, sign in with a Google Account that was previously synced on this device".
No matter what account I use, I always get a Toast message saying "Unable to sign in to device due to a unknown error. Please try another account or try to sign in again after 24 hours.".
I'm guessing this is some kind of theft protection where entering a previously synced account "proves" that you're the legit owner. The authorised service here told me that I need some kind of proof that I'm the legit owner and surely enough the eBay seller has issued no invoice containing the phone's IMEI (or any similar document).
Anyway, here I am with this gorgeous phone on my hands which is little more than a brick due to this.
Is there any way I could get it to work again? Returning it will just generate more costs for me and I'd like to avoid that.
I've seen guides on youtube where they managed to bypass this security measure, but both methods I've seen failed for me. I guess the version running on my phone is just too recent and plugged all the holes.
Do I have any way of downgrading the software at least? Note that this is a fully locked phone and I can't even start TWRP from fastboot.
Anything else?
Edit: Now that I'm re-reading this post, it occurred to me that there's very little chance that this phone wouldn't be a stolen one. Had it not been, the seller would easily issue me an invoice.

From the Settings / About, what is exact (full) build name/number?
Generally, if you are on Nougat then IMO, rolling back to MM should completely reset your phone.
You cannot flash TWRP without unlocking Bootloader. But that will not help much for resetting Google protection.
Btw, enable Developer's menu, does it allow you to unlock FRP/OEM Unlocking - in that case you will be able to reset all from EMUI recovery.

- Boot to Recovery (switch off, press and keep pressing Vol+ and Pow). Does it boot to stock Recovery and does it allow there to Factory reset (it should but if FRP was unlocked)
- Boot to Fastboot (switch off, connect by USB to PC, press Vol- and Pow), do you see Phone (Bootloader) and FRP locked or unlocked?

It is stock recovery. I don't recall the option for factory reset. In fact there's no options at all, save for reboots.
Fastboot says everything is locked as it should be.
Don't know how to downgrade to MM.

But not sure would it allow you to setup.
That is Factory Reset Protection (FRP/OEM Unlocking) - if it was unlocked you would be allowed to reset from recovery.
You can ask seller - maybe he can login to his Google account and remotely remove Google account from the sold phone.
Or you can try DC Unlocker, not sure would it work

Well, DC unlocker ultimately worked, but not before buying a wrong package, having to ask tech support, etc, etc. Not to mention the guy really has no patience for people who don't have his level of understanding of the subject. Why does he do it then if he hates the whole thing so much?

So did you use DC Unlocker to unlock Bootloader or DC Phoenix to reinstall the phone?

Sorry for bothering but I'm interested now - when Bootloader was unlocked (and FRP too), were you just able to pass setup or you needed to do Factory reset from Recovery or how did you get the stock ROM working for you
Final resolution: the seller sent me an invoice. I guess that means that the phone wasn't stolen after all since they can only expect that this will be entered into Huawei databases.

The procedure was thus:
1. unlocker unlocked the FRP
2. phone rebooted into a factory reset (low level) mode - it specifically said "low level"
3. phone booted into normal Android where the FRP protection was no longer active. On screen where it previously demanded a previous Google account it now only demanded A (any) Google account as I'm used to from all the other phones I ever bought.
