Htc tytn II.
It happened already once before two weeks and today again and i can't start my kaiser. First time i manage to start it somehow i don't even know how and i thought it won't happen again. When i push a start button only green color light appears on it, and nothing on screen. like it didn't start at all.
After that i can't do anything except soft reset which only shut down phone and green light gone then. Or take battery out! so i tryed everything later and now can't even start my phone anyhow!
I flashed rom in past and have some of dutty's rom in there
Please help me and tell me what is wrong with my phone and how to repair this problem?
now i can't even get green light. now is completely dead. I am worried if i send it at service with warranty that they will see i have no official rom (i'm on dutty's)

Flash it back to stock, all the details are in the wiki, you just have to read. Then you can warranty it.

If it is dead and won't start how are they going to find out you don't have a stock rom?
It is not like they have a bunch of brilliant guys sitting around HTC miraculously reviving dead phones. They through it in the dead phone pile and use it for parts.
Could be a battery issue (highly unlikely as I havent really heard of this happening ever) but still, its possible. So, if you have a replacement battery try it out. Also, has it been water damaged, have you dropped it multiple times or has something hit it hard? These things could also brick a tilt, something like that happened to my friend when a door slammed his wizard.
I doubt its a software issue, a software issue would still allow it to turn on.

now i tryed again in the morning and green light on phone again works. but only it!
So it is now a battery issue then ?!
doesn't help anything else again. didn't had any hard hit in it. i was yesterday at Prodigy music concert so maybe there get some hit but it should not be anything seriously.. For the first time it didn't get any hit.. It was rainy here yesterday and i had it in my pocket, but first time when this happened it wasn't rainy, than it was on hard sunny day and for the first time i thought it was because of sun! Now was quite rainy and wet day...
hm. i have news now here, when i leave it on green light started for a longer period, i get those multiple lines colors on screen i see. it's approx. 10 colors lines... and it stays for a 10 sec. approx. and after that it shuts down itself! And now again i cant even get green color. Disaster!

I suggest trying another battery as was said before. Or it can be also broken screen or something.

it's not broken screen because first time i somehow manage to start it and it works normal for 2 weeks.. so it must be a battery...
i will try with other battery later from friends kaiser

ok, let us know if that worked.
i tried with friends battery and it's not a battery problem. With his battery same problem, and when i put in my battery in his phone it works normal...
looks like I'll need to go to htc service using warranty... i hope it won't be some problem with them because i have dutty's rom
argh... not good!
now i got phone call from servicer who manage to turn on phone. And he saw in there dutty's rom, not official and my warranty now won't worth
now everything what he will do with phone i will need to pay by my own money.
Now he started phone and he says that he will return it to official rom and see will phone work then normal. If not he said he should change whole mother board to fix this problem which is really huge expense. He told me price almost same as new kaiser!!! terrible!
disaster, now i heard with service and the phone is not working well even with official rom now. I don't know what to do! He said he need to change motherboard and the cost for that is like new phone! Terrible. So, to be honest, this rom flashing is total mistake because could easy loose phone just like i do.
i would like to sell it but don't know how now because he don't work properly!

That's the risk you take when flashing a non OEM rom. If the rom your using isn't worth that risk, then don't flash it.
I bet the rom you were using didn't cause the problem either.

The problem can be or can not be caused by rom flashing. It could be just some hardware fault which has nothing to do with rom flashing.

i agree. i also don't thing it's because of rom flashing. probably some hardware failure...
but problem is when i can't start phone i can't change official rom offcourse
anyone know how much new motherboard cost and can i get it online somehow? here in croatia is not easy to find this because very few this phones are available... same with parts of this phone

dont know, but try to ask this question in kaiser accesories section.
I don't know what caused this.
I got my G1 today. It worked for probably 2-3 hours perfectly fine.
I had an app freeze (either Barcode Scanner or Lock 2.0) and had to do a full hard reset.
Now, whenever the phones screen darkens or I put it to sleep manually, it WILL NOT come back up.
I have factory reset three times now to try and get this to work.
When the screen is black, all buttons on the phone still light up and so does the LED indicator up top. I had my phone set to use a locking pattern screen at one point during one reset to test out and when the screen went black, I was still able to try and log in by doing my pattern. It unlocked, but still showed nothing on the screen.
Please help!
I've tried:
Turning Wi-Fi off
Turning 3g Off
Disclaimer: Yes, I've searched. I can find other users with the same problem but none of them seem to have a solution.
Phone is NOT ROOTED and has the factory ROM.
Update 1: Update: It only freezes/blacks out when I try to wake the phone from one of the front key buttons.
If I'm sliding to unlock, it seems to be fine.... (but if I've already tried to open from the front it doesnt)
Update 2: If I mash all the buttons in random orders for about a minute or two it seems to come back. Anyone have any idea?
Update 3: I'm thinking this has to be an issue with none of the buttons waking the phone up when closed. If I lock the phone with the "END" key, and then click the front "END" Key again, nothing happens. If I slide the phone open, and click it twice - the phone wakes up.
Update 4: Confirmed update 3. Phone will not unlock via front keys unless it's slid open (or open enough to trigger).
I would really, really appreciate help with this.
Hate to bump this, but I've added some detail on the top and bottom. Have to leave for work, hopefully someone might have an idea by the time I get back.
Well you can try to reload the factory rom or root it and try a custom rom and see if the problem still exist. If it is still happening then it would be a hardware problem and need to be sent in. And yes you will still be covered under warranty with HTC since the phone is still less than a year old.
I had a problem with exactly the same symptoms. It turned out that the SD card was cocked-up so home, core, and some other process would hang trying to read it and the phone would not wake-up the screen any more.
Did you try removing the SD card and seeing if that helps?

Removed the SD card and rebooted the phone.
No change ( still acts the same way ).
Did you factory reset after or was it an instant change?
I don't mind losing data to fix this.

Wouldn't I have to root to reload the factory rom? Is there a rooting tutorial based just on that?

If you use the official update you don't have to have root. There are some links on here. I'll see if I can find it for you.
https://android.clients.google.com/updates/signed-gfh-CRB43-from-CRB21.c88b03d2.zip
That should be it, but can't confirm since I'm on my work computer.
Some thoughts--may be useful, or not:
Mine was doing that too, but it was caused because I dunked mine underwater during an urban exploring mission. I dried it out, replaced the LCD screen, and everything worked until it would go to sleep. Then I had to do a variety of button mashes and opening the keyboard to get it to come back to life. Sometimes it just wouldn't come back. The problem grew worse over time.
If wiping and reflashing (no need to use a stock ROM) gets you nowhere, then I would suspect a deeper hardware issue. I see you bought it used, can you contact the seller?
If you want to check for water damage, take out the battery and look at the tiny circular sticker in the battery chamber--if it is not white, it has been water damaged. (And the warranty will not be honored.)
Other Lesson: No urban exploring with G1s.
The link didn't work, btw.

Zero water damage.
That's great news zeabrid! In that case, I agree with an earlier poster--you should be covered by warranty. Wipe and flash a good rooted rom, and if that doesn't work, revert to stock and demand a new phone.

Do you have a link to a guide that teaches how to do this (with the stock rom)? I can only see a few that're spread out.
I'm not entirely sure my phone can boot into safe mode/disk mode, so we'll see about that.
Another update: When I boot into safe mode, the same problem exists.
Edit: Just emailed HTC.
This can officially no longer be considered a software issue.
I just rooted and installed a standard ROM. Same issue.
It happens all the way at boot now, just realized this.
HTC emailed me back and told me to call them directly. Will do that tomorrow.
if I find a solution I'll post it immediately.
Alright, my phone is officially ****ed.
Restored back to the original rom.
New problem now: When I close the screen, the backlight goes out and doesn't come back on. (I can still barely see everything, but there's no light).
Calling HTC today.
Edit: Called T-Mo support. They suggested deleting programs to free up space (I only have 2 downloaded and to reset (already done)
=(
Edit2: Called and placed a RMA with HTC after talking to two of their customer support reps. Thankfully, they forwarded me up the support tier after only about a minute with each person when they realized I had already tried all other steps.
The RMA process was surprisingly easy. I have everything set up, and when I get paid (tomorrow) I'm going to ship the phone out. I was given an estimation of 7-10 business days for full repair and return shipping (which sounds great in my opinion - I've never sent anything in for warranty work before).
I'll update you guys once I hear from their repair team on whether or not I'm going to be covered under warranty (I told them that the phone was a gift to me), and if not what the cost is going to be. Like I said earlier in the thread, all water damage indicators are clear and I have unrooted my phone, so I should be covered hopefully.
Thanks to anyone who posted in this thread.

Yea it defitenly sounds like a hardware issue and needs to be fixed. Glad your getting it fixed and you'll be covered no problem.
Do you know if they charge return shipping if it's covered under warranty? I have to pay my own shipping there, and they had me put a credit card down on file in case I either bail when its already there or they need to charge for repair.

To be honest I don't know the answer but would like to say they would pay for it. But they would have to let you know of the charge before they apply a charge to a credit card.
wow its weird cause im just having a similiar issue now.. in landscape mode.. phone and back light work perfectly. but one i close the screen everything goes virtually blank, everything is running perfectly just the screen light wont turn on..
will try some of your previous methods.. hopefully it works on mine..=/
thanks, for the info zeabrid
The phone was plugged in to my computer (I was doing development) and was running all the time. Suddenly, while I was not doing development or doing anything, the phone died and I have have never been able to turn it on again.
I've tried:
Hold the Power button
Hold both Power and Volume down button
Take out the battery and put it in again
Replace the batter with another one from my friends' working-perfectly-fine Galaxy S3
The result is the same: no response from the phone at all - it's completely cold, no sound, light or vibration at all - all I've seen is the blank unchanged screen so please don't ask me about the start up screen
What can I do?
*Notes: I've read this thread but my warranty has ran out so bringing it to Samsung is not really the best option.

If you are going to replacet the motherboard and use the same phone, your data should still be there.
If you are going to use a new phone, you have to take out the hard drive and connect to it to get the data from there.
There is no hard drive in the Galaxy S3, just an eMMC flash chip soldered to the motherboard.

Are you sure all people on this forum are developers? Also, just what kind of developers?
Again, my answer could be wrong but how can it cause problem for others?
Let's break it down:
I said data should not be lost after motherboard replacement
There is no action required here so how can it lead to anything harmful?
Last time I checked, the data in my S3 was still there after its motherboard was replace
Taking out the hard drive from the phone was the part I wasn't sure
As of now, I can see that it's apparently wrong as someone pointed out
However, if there is no hard drive ==> how can one take it out ==> how can one damage anything?
How can I be responsible for anything here?
What do say now Mr. smart developer?
Please provide something concrete and convincing.
Don't waste your time, don't waste mine
After checking my hard brick phone by a bestbuy technical, i was told my phone was totally dead. The phone wouldnt connect to PC, can't do power charge, no any response even the jig method. And the data is gone. However, I am not sure how the data backup works. maybe they just don't wanna do it or their lack of doing it.
Normally, the data recovery from damaged hardware is expensive. cause it need plenty of time and they probably think the customer wouldn't pay for that.
Directly replace a motherboard could cost less than repair it. In some cases, could even replace a new phone cost less than a new motherboard. Technically, backup data from hard brick phone could be possible.

Similar problem with my Samsung Galaxy S3. Mine turned off randomly and wouldn't turn on again for half a day each time. The last time it happened it wouldn't turn on for a day, so I tried the DOWNLOAD MODE combination, cancelled it, got prompted to RESTART PHONE then it turned on again.
I took in my phone directly to Samsung Customer Service in Albany, Auckland (for New Zealand people). They found that the "current was not stable" and all they had to do was replace the mainboard. It only took them half a day to repair and it was covered by warranty. He said the cost of the mainboard, outside of warranty, would cost around NZD $260.
Replacing mainboard shouldn't affect your memory but it is always best to back up your phone via Samsung Kies (or something similar) before taking it in for repair. According to the Samsung guy, in New Zealand, they are not legally allowed to back up a customer's data on any of their computers, but there is no harm in asking them if you trust them to do so.
Hope this helps

Replacing the main board replaces all data except the External SD-Card, as the EMMC is built onto the motherboard, they can always backup the /data over QPST, where it isn't readable by any program except that one.

In normal situation when you press the button you activate the keyguard and it going to sleep after a few time. The software (keyguard) follows the hardware (button). In your case because of the damage of the hardware the button is always on and holds on the keyguard. Maybe i'm wrong but one other solution is to install a custom rom and deactivate the hardware button with the problem. You can activate and the navigation bar if you want. I think that can solve the problem also.

Don't open the phone if its still on warranty, just get it to the repair center. If you have no luck with getting your phone repaired for free try opening it as your last resort
EDIT: its obviously no software issue, it would be fixed by making a factory reseT/install custom ROM but you say you have already done that.

Hi All.
Battery stuck on 50% won't change even when charge or discharge. Today it randomly shutdown in my pocket. and then had a battery symbol with a ?. The phone eventually turned on, I've tried turning off location, rebooting still having issues. Sometimes the battery saving mode stops working, i.e. it cannot be turned on. As I can see the problem concerns a large group of users and nobody knows what this problem is related to. Google is silent as usual. Is this a problem with the software or components ?! I am in a bad situation because I have no warranty for the device and I do not know where to send the phone in Poland because no one knows what is the cause of the problem. Help me please.

Had this.
This is going to sound dumb:
Shut your phone off.
Now squeeze the phone around the G logo on the back (like you're trying to compress it).
Now turn it back on and charge normally.
This is potentially only a temporary fix as I have no idea how this would be software related.
If you can enter bootloader mode, you still have chance to save your phone by yourself :
(1)Make sure there is fastboot&ADB tool in your computer
If you don't have it, please download from here(https://developer.android.com/studio/releases/platform-tools). To click the one depends on which one of OS you have and then install in your computer
(2)Download google factory image file from here(https://developers.google.com/android/images). To choose the model of your phone and download it then extract file.
(3)Reboot your phone to bootloader mode. Then use USB cable and make phone connected to your computer USB port. Then execute the window commend mode. key in
fastboot devices ===> make sure your phone being catched by your computer
flash-all ===> To build up a whole new pixel OS in your phone.
Good luck !

Unfortunately, this is only temporary. After one day the problem happened again!

Ive had my pixel 4 xl since november and it just started automatically shutting off when in my pocket all by it self a few weeks ago , took cell phone to my sevice provider and they sent it in for repair ...received a new phone ...well refurbished p4 xl only to have if start happening again days later and have the 50% battery start happening also ....contacted google and they are in the process of sending me a new refurbished p4 xl , so this will be my 3 rd p4 xl ..lol
very frustrating to say the least ....ive had to hard reboot my phone at least 20 times a day or basically keep it out of any pockets , the is common issue apparently with pixels phones from what i've read in the link https://support.google.com/pixelphone/thread/22397169?hl=en
I've talked with loyalty department at my service provider and if it happens again with the pixel that google sends me , then they will allow me to void my contract and supply me with a new device from a different brand ...ie Samsung or apple or whatever else is available on the market right now on there website.
i'll be really bummed if i have to switch to a samsung or apple buuuuuut need a stable device ...lol
So to anyone having this issue that still has a basic warranty, there are at least 2 options ...rma device over and over till you get one that doesn't have this problem or contact service provider and explain your situation and most likely they will be understanding to the fact that you have purchased a 1200.00 phone that requires constant rma's and hopefully allow you to exchange for a different brand of phone that doesn't have this these problems

I fully understand you. I am in a worse position. As a loyal Google fan, I bought my pixel from someone who didn't have a proof of purchase. In Poland it was difficult to get it, and as it was 1.5 times more expensive than everywhere else. It seems that I can throw out the pixel and buy another phone for a lot of money. I am most annoyed by the company's attitude. It looks like they are xxxxx on us.

This is the "No Warranty Solution" : Flash a full factory image and allow it to completely wipe your phone. This is the second step Google support would give you (the first is doing a factory data reset from Recovery). If after flashing your phone, restoring it to the original "out of the box" state, you still have a battery issue, then the next step is to replace your battery. If you forgot to state in your OP that your bootloader is still locked (so you can't flash the image) then you need to do that first. Bottom line is you need to factory reset the phone to rule out a software issue. If the restored phone still has the same problem, then you need to focus on the hardware. Best of luck. :good:
Yes, it does !

Same happened to me with 4 XL 64.
I've been able to "fix" with the turn off and squeeze but the problem has turned into the battery discharge displayed gets stuck at a percentage and it won't charge. I have to turn off & squeeze to get it back.
Finally called Google and they are making me send my phone in for repair. Now I assume for turnaround sake, they'll just send me a new refurb back. That also means I'm not confident the problem will be resolved as there are over 150 replies on the Google Support page identifying this problem.

Looks like some folks are getting a replacement before sending the problem phone back but others are required to send it in or drop off at repair facility.
Good for me? I have Preferred Care and I'll keep sending them back until I get one that works.
Bad for me? I'll have to keep sending them back + I splurged on the orange color so I doubt I'll ever see that again.
I've actually dealt with this. This is a hardware issue. I had the same problem. Covered by warranty, I took it to ubreakitifix after contacting Google and they took care of me. Trust me this isn't a issue where you can flash this or squeeze that. This is a hardware issue on Google's part. There's nothing you can do as a phone user about a defective battery in a 6+ month old $1000 phone

You might be able to convince them to send you a device before you ship it off, citing the current global situation and a need for a cell phone
OP lives in Poland and has no receipts or warranty. Poland is not a supported country so he is looking for "non-warranty" solutions.

The return process was pretty great. I shipped my existing phone off on a Monday (Illinois to Texas) and by the following Monday, I received my exact phone back (has a screen protector on it). I was very satisfied with that. HOWEVER, the "repair" still has an issue where if I charge to 100%, the icon stays at 100% until I reboot and then it'll display the correct battery %.
The repair documentation was a bit vague and said they replaced the "charging port". I still believe there's a unannounced hardware issue. Can anyone say, class action????

I wonder what the next step would be if I started another repair claim?
Holding the power button down for more than 3 consecutive seemed to solve a similar issue for me. My P4 was holding certain percentages for too long (even though the phone actually lost more).

This post seems to have been ignored. If it happens to me, I'll try that. But my carrier purchase didn't qualify for Google extended care add-on. Standard warranty only. Does that make a difference in what Google would do in this case?
I use Accubattery and monitor charge cycles for "battery wear". Even following "Battery College" recommendations, battery health has dropped from 99 to 95%; I've had the P4XL since November. I'm now slowing the charge, getting away from power delivery to see if that helps slow the wear. SOT varies greatly per charge.
I use a belt pouch for carrying phone while away from home. Rarely, I put it in my pocket but do so at home- front pocket only- never back pocket. May just be bad phone batteries from what I've read.

For 5 weeks my Pixel has been in the authorized repair center in Germany. They don't have parts to fix it. They told me that. It is not known how long this may take. I haven't had such a circus with a good smartphone. I love Google products, but I feel very disappointed because Pixel cost me a lot of money and this is definitely a factory defect.

Sorry to hear this, and surprising, as Germany is a supported country with many authorized repair centers. Did you send it to PSC? They claim to be Google-certified and have all factory parts? COVID-19 may also be delaying things. Hope things turn out well for you. :good:
