I'm trying to flash chroma rom onto phone with leankernel/hells core and verizon 5.1 radio. May someone confirm this is the correct order? I'm currently on latest chroma with franco kernel. (i don't like dirty flashing )
1. Wipe everything but internal sd
2. Flash latest chroma
3. Flash latest leankernel/hellscore
4. Flash Gapps
5. Flash verizon radio 5.1
Should i also include Supersu in the steps?
Also, if my internal memory is getting a bit cluttered from apps and other random stuff, is there a way I can reset my phone to a rooted, bootloader unlocked, unencrypted state without doing a full reset to stock then doing everything over?

first off, why would you have to go back to stock???
secondly, the radio can be flashed at any time, no order involved in that.
thirdly, when you wipe data(everything but the SD storage), thats a factory reset. so, wipe data/system, flash chroma, flash the gapps, flash SuperSU(for root), then flash your kernel and reboot.
As long as you flash ROM first, doesn't matter about the order

Sorry, a clean sd card is simply one of those weird things I like(It might be ocd or something xD). When i had my s4, i would do a full reset to stock every time I flashed a rom because I didn't want any residual files left over. That being said, is there any simpler process to reset or clean the internal memory between flashing roms besides stock reset? What I'm talking about is some way to set or "reset" the nexus 6 to a unlocked, rooted, unencrypted, and twrped state but otherwise stock.

Make a backup in TWRP of your device when it's in that state. Then flash that backup whenever you want to return to that state.

just do a full wipe in twrp, itll clean out your storage. but move all the files that you want to save to your computer or they will be gone.

So I've rooted, unlock bootloader but still encrypted on my nexus 6. So far I went with Franco kernel & ViperAudio that's about it and I'm enjoying it.
I'm wanting to flash a custom ROM very soon and I'm new to this. Ive made backups thru twrp with nandroid already. So please bare with me.
Questions
Do I have to be decrypted before flashing a ROM?
Can I load viperaudo.zip & Franco kernel.zip along with Custom ROM, Gapps & SuperSU at the same time on Twrp?
From videos I've seen people just wipe on twrp and then install the ROM, is this a safe? Or is it better to a full factory wipe.
After flashing a ROM, will my old files still be there like pictures ive taken, stuff that I download & will my old apps be there still.
Thank you in advance.
1. its your choice, to stay encrypted or to decrypt. im still encrypted and running terminus rom
2. yes. but tge rom will always be the first flash, since itll overwrite anything you flash before it.
3. i normally dirty flash, meaning i dint wipe a single thing when flashing. that way i lose nothing. but, i always have a nandroid backup, just in case.
4. first off, your storage never gets touched, unless you wipe it yourself. if you dirty flash, you lose nothing. if you clean flash, you factory reset the phone and need to reinstall your apps, through backup of somekind or manually.

So flash the ROM, gapps and super su as the thread of the ROM says and then use the ROM for a bit and then twrp and flash ViperAudio and kernel...
So if I lose nothing do I need to reinstall the apps...
Thanks for the response

id flash viper and your kernel at the same time, with the rim, gapps, abd supersu. if you dirty flash, you lose nothing. all you do is update what you already have. your apps stay. buts thats only during a "dirty" flash

Sorry for being a noob. I know if I fuxk up anything I can always revert to my nandroid backup.
Ok so im on chroma 28/4 build with leankernel and i can't update my rom without bootloops witch i think is becaise im encrypted. also any recommendations for a rom? i want features. and how about a kernel?

As long as you don't format data you won't lose what's on your "sdcard" If you want to remove encryption, backup everything to your PC and format data in recovery. Reboot into recovery, connect device to PC, transfer ROM and whatever kernel you want to the device, and flash like normal. Just make sure the kernel you choose doesn't force encryption. After you're done you can move all your stuff back to the phone.
Edit: I'd also recommend AOSIP with hells-Core kernel. AOSIP should be getting an update today if you want to hold off on flashing for a bit.

You don't need to format data. If you have TWRP just do the normal factory reset wipe and you can flash a new ROM. If, however, you want to remove encryption then yes you must format data.

Yes and no. When you swipe that bar in twrp for factory reset, do you lose everything on the phone? Like music, pictures, etc? You shouldn't. Hitting the button that explicitly says format data...that wipes out literally everything. Hence why I said backup your stuff to your PC. That only matters if you want to remove encryption though. Otherwise just factory reset in twrp and flash away.

I was running chroma with zen kernel for about 2 weeks, then chroma with leankernel for a week, and then last Monday switched to aosip with hells-Core. Tuesday is when I decided to ditch encryption. Up until then all I had ever done was factory resets.
If all you want to do is flash blisspop and/or a kernel, you don't need to wipe the entire device. A factory reset is all you should need. If you're worried that encryption is somehow causing issues for you, it's very simple to remove. Just follow these steps:
1) Backup everything to your PC
2) Reboot to recovery
3) Format Data -> type "yes"
4) Reboot recovery
5) Move ROM and kernel .zip files from PC to device
6) Flash ROM
7) Flash kernel that DOES NOT force encryption
8) Flash Gapps/Su
9) Reboot system
10) Manage to control your excitement while waiting for first boot to complete
If you're planning on sticking with leankernel, it doesn't force encryption so you should be fine.

Vindicator and blisspop, is that a good combinaton? idc about encryption i rather want it off though.
I've never used Blisspop. I also haven't tried Vindicator yet either. I was going to flash it today. I've tried Chroma, Euphoria, Liquid smooth, and AOSIP. I don't plan on switching from AOSIP for a very long time. As for kernels I've tried leankernel, Franco, Zen, hells-Core, code_blue (not the depreciated version here on XDA), and elementalX. hells-Core is by far my favorite so far.

Can anyone explain to me how I would know if something is force encrypted or not? Sorry, I am brand new to this phone and want to have a non encrypted overall phone. IS it the kernel the is the only thing that could force encryption, or could the rom individually do it also? Thanks for your help guys!!
Hi, Im having problems with my phone. In the 3 different roms I tried the same, The 3 nandroids I made I can't restore and give errors, Cant restore user apps from titanium backup apps alone or with data, optios for restore is unavailable and now this message at startup "uids on the system are inconsistent, you need to wipe your data partition or your device will be unstable"
I think this problems are related. Someone know what it can be? Bad partitions or something?
Quick question, are you doing a Wipe Data/Factory Reset when changing roms?. If not try going booting to recovery choose Wipe>Advance> choose everything except Internal Data and SD> wipe 3 times to be sure then install Rom and after it finishes Wipe Davik/Cache then boot up.

Yes I think something like that but Its not possible to test it and be sure? I bought it used and I don't think I can send it back anyway apart from that phone works great.
Apologies for duplicating this post but the original forum was apparently the wrong spot for this.
I need either some pointers or a reference to a how-to, if you please.
My Nexus 6 is currently running Pure Nexus 6.0.1-2060821-official, security patch 8/5/2016 with ElementalX kernel 3.10.40-ElementalX-N6-3-20.
I've updated Pure Nexus before through TWRP and all went well, but those efforts never involved updating the kernel too. I've attempted to flash the new kernel, the rom and the google apps, but the phone goes into a never ending boot effort and it's a tussle getting back to recovery mode as it tends to boot loop. The flashes are preceded by clearing Delvik and cache and cleared again after the flash.
Is the order of flashing off or perhaps not enough clearing of other items such as system? Or is a factory reset needed?
Kind of lost on this one and can't seem to string together enough search terms to find help specific to the problem.
Any help would be appreciated.
The kernel is most likely not updated to work with the rom. Each rom comes with its own kernel so you really don't have to flash a new one. I would flash the rom and gaps and see what happens. Leave the kernel out of it for now. You have to remember that not all kernels work on all roms. Many roms are making it so only their kernel works properly.

Still no-go. Freshly downloaded purenexus_shamu-7.1.1-20170215-OFFICIAL and Full_Dynamic_GApps-7.1.x-20161215, checked the MD5s, and flashed both after cache/Dalvik. Still got the same 4-color bouncing dots. Let it run like that for about 40 minutes before getting back into recovery.

You are doing a full wipe right? Wiping system and data before flashing?
Also encryption could be an issue. If your device in encrypted or the kernel did not remove the force encryption flag. That could take awhile as well.

Got the Feb GApps, wiped Dalvik and cache... this time I let it run for a bit over an hour in case the encryption was an issue. There's a little over 19 GB in files. I figured an hour would be enough but no luck. Had to recover again from backup.
TWRP gives 5 items that can be wiped, Dalvik, System, data, Internal Storage and Cache. I was of the understanding that data pertained to user data (photos, notes, etc). Most all of that is backed up but I'm unclear on what needs wiping for this Nougat upgrade. When I wiped system, it didn't seem to help - although I was using the older GApps at that point. I've seen documentation that says to wipe these items at the outset and others that suggest after the flash is complete. Both? Which ones?
I don't want to resort to drastic measures if it's something simple that I've missed.
Needs Nougat bootloader and latest radio--flash in TWRP. This allows flashing N ROMs while will still work with all MM or even 5.1 ROMs

What TWRP version? Old one cause problems on newer ROMS. Newest is 3.1.0, but 3.0.3 or 3.0.2 should be ok.
Wipe everything - /system, /data, /cache. /dalvik. Do NOT wipe Internal Storage (camera photos, downloads, etc.) before flashing. Data is usually app data, so make a nandroid first to save it, but app data can usually be restored with Titanium Backup or Google will restore it on setup. Just do not restore any system data.
Bootup on clean flash does take time, but normally no more than 20-25 minutes.
Try reverting to stock
Install stock firmware using adb
TWRP version might be the glitch.... Mine reports 2.8.5.0 in recovery mode. I'll update to the latest and retry after wiping all but internal storage. If that fails, I'll flash the boatloader and radio.
Once more into the breach.

You should really update the bootloader/radio to the latest once you update the TWRP. Updating the bootloader/radio will not affect your internal storage.

That is what Titanium Backup (and Restore) does, yes.
First of all, I know that this question has been asked before but the solutions on those threads aren't what I'm looking. So please hear me out here.
So, I've been trying to find out how to completely restore my phone to stock. People said to flash the fastboot rom and I did but it didn't restore the phone *completely*. First I thought that it did, since the custom recovery was gone along with the custom rom. But then I flashed twrp again and I noticed that my previous twrp settings and theme are still intact, meaning that they were not wiped by the fastboot rom.
What should I do to remove them completely? On Samsung phones i could just flash through odin and everything would be restored. How do I do it on xiaomi's? Thanks!
Did you choose clean flashed and lock option? or flashed with save user data? choose clean flash and lock (it will wipe everything in your device so do backup first).

It should have made clean flash. honestly i never cared about after clean flash if it retains setting or not because that doesn't even matter at all to me since i am using android or caused any problem /issue.
May i know what is your purpose of getting rid of TWRP settings? and what exactly setting you want to get rid of?
if still care about getting rid of full twrp setting i highly recommend you to visit xiaomi service center and ask them to install latest version because they thoroughly clean flash device like it was out of the box using some other method.
